A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM EST MONDAY.
LOW PRESSURE OVER SOUTH CAROLINA WILL MOVE UP THE EASTERN SEABOARD THIS EVENING...CREATING A TIGHT GRADIENT OF ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL OVER THE MID ATLANTIC REGION. When the eaglet is ready to hatch, it will turn itself inside the egg and pierce the egg’s air sac, then the chick will take its first breath of air from within the shell. Next the chick will use its neck muscles and egg tooth (on the tip of its beak) to pip or punch a small hole in the shell. The eaglet will continue to slowly turn and peck until it has cut a hole around the diameter of the shell so that it can push out the bottom half and free itself. This process is very tiring for the chick and can take 24 hours to complete since the young bird will frequently stop to rest. Once the eaglet is out, it will be wet and tired with its eyes closed, but it won’t be long before it dries off and is soon able to see and sit up.
Lynn, if you upload more than one picture at a time it takes longer. Also, it takes longer during the day than at night, must be something to do with blogger traffic.
Oh....didn't think it would be that long!!! So guess we don't for "fer sher" as the kids say when the actual hatch began....so watch is ongoing. Mits, forecast sounding worse!Hope they are WRONG!

A bit ago saw one eagle flying out at Norfolk. Don't know if it was a switch!?
I have a feeling we won't have a high school reunion comm. mtg on Mon! DUH! Half the people I left phone messages w/ and sent ems didn't respond anyway!
Parent is up at BWE and looking into egg cup. Naturenut, I saw the two in nest and there was no change. The one on the eggs got up and then wiggled back down on them.
Good Sunday afternoon!! Been cleaning house all day, YUK!! But man, I love it when it is done. Only lasts for an hour or so, but I love it for that long.
HEY SISSY!!---I wondered where you all were----Saw it had snowed in BLUEFIELD----I agree---"HAVING A CLEAN HOUSE IS THE GREATEST FEELING EVER"-----(sissy---takes so little to make us happy) ho!
Yeah, it is snowing at a pretty good clip right now. We had a winter storm warning but they canceled it (hasn't stopped snowing since they canceled). We have about 2 inches right now, heavy wet snow. The bamboo in my front yard is on the ground! ☺ ☻
Guess I'd better get the trash out before it starts doing snything.
BTW....ATTENTION TOM SELLECK fans....new Jesse Stone movie on CBS tonight! He's still a hunk after all these years, and love him in this new role....he's intense and complicated; loves his dog and his booze (too much) and justice! Comes on at 9pm.
Going to Lowes. Need to buy a new bird feeder. Wind blew ours to the ground and it shattered. Boy am I going to have a lot of weeds for the seeds that fell all over the place.
Lynn, you can edit your blogspot, click New Post, go to bottom & it say's view all posts & you can click Edit next to title of post and add titles for each pic if you want or type titles above or below pic in their "em" windows.
Thx, Lolly will check it out. Daughter just called that she drove around and 3 mi. down (south) on Hwy 71 she saw burned areas & helicopters were still dropping water on places. Didn't know you were near San. An. She said the wind there was a major factor, but was blowing away from her area.Too bad for all those who lived further south.
Thanks Deb & Loretta...will have to try it! On my camera, when I viewed the tree/nest pics, I could zoom in and get a close-up of the birds...but can't figure out how to edit the pics on Picasa to do that. Gotta investigate!!
LYNN The Outer Banks is cold, rainy and very windy. Had some thunder earlier in the afternoon, which I couldn't figure out as it wasn't warm here. Not a good day for the beach at all. It would look like an angry ocean if one looked today.
Oh, yeah, surf is very rough and angry, and wind is strong. Hatteras cam is blurry, but dune looks battered. But you know what they say....a bad day at the beach is better than a good day anyplace else!
Lynn I live in Colington Harbour on the big island of Colington; between the thin strip of beach and the island of Manteo. Our house is on the south side of a forested sand dune, so we usually don't feel the NE winds much. It is the NW or SW winds that get us.
Deb - First met Greymare over on the Kent Forum! Then she became a Momster and now a blogger.
Barb, Margy said she was anxious to have you come over here and blog - She is working noon to 6pm today - dispatcher with the local 911 in Martinsburg! She is going to be happy to see you!.
You know Lynn, I can't remember when it was that I was to the beach last. I never even got there much this summer. Don't like getting out in all that traffic. It is like once you live here, you work here and then have to find the time to get to the beach.
Candy, I was looking at real estate there and saw a property listed in your neighborhood...but everytime I tried to do the virtual tour it froze up puter!
Lynn, that sounds about right. When we first moved here over 28 years ago, there were hardly any homes here in the Harbour. The lots were every 50 feet, which I should have thought long and hard about buying a few at the time, since our house up north was on 2 and a quarter acres of woods. I don't know if you would want to come back here now. Mine is just a plain screened in beach box, as that was all they were building at the time. Now there are some very nice big houses, but we have got a lot of renters that have moved in AND out, in and out. We have nice deep water canal for boaters and a harbor that goes out into the Albamarle Sound.
Hey gang, we are now getting precip--flakes, but they are pretty fast, so must be freezing rain or something in w/them! BOO If it's gonna snow, why not pretty stuff?
REMEMBER Next Sunday we will be one hr ahead - I don't like giving back that hour that was lost - BUT I do like it staying light out longer in the evenings!
Loretta, I haven't been able to get NBG for awhile now. It went askew, then looked like the cam pulled back from the close up of the nest and then next thing I knew, it was black. I do hope everything is ok there. It was blowing that nest pretty bad.
We just finished a unit on penguins in Kindergarten. It must be the year for penguins. My sister sent me a stuffed penguin for Christmas and two kitchen towels with penguins on them.
We just had a change in OUR eagle's position. I missed it while it was happening. I am so happy that our egg well is deep! I just wish that BWE would have made their egg well deeper! NBG is really deep from the pics I've seen.
I was just thinking the same thing JO. Maybe we had all better say a prayer for all our feathered friends who are out in the awful weather tonight. Lets hope that the baby eagle doesn't decide to make it's appearance tonight.
Loretta, I forgot all about the ospreys returning. Down here they usually come back sometime after the first week in March. They start nesting back here in the harbor and that chases all the pesky sea gulls back to the beach. I jsut wish that we had some pelicans nesting near by here. They are at the Outer Banks but not by me.
JO maybe this is a two parent night where both huddle together for warmth and to cover the egg cup. I know that sounds Kindergartenish, but it does make sense
Candy both parents were huddled together around 5 this a.m. at BWE...already deleted my pics of it that I sent around, but think Loretta may have put it on eagle momster album..???
Oh, poor Lady BW! Just returned and first view of the snow on her back. She is really staying close to her eggs. Good for her!
Glad you liked my little penguin. I thought they were really cute pictures of a really cute little boy. And, he does look like his daddy, which of course, I LOVE. He does not have his daddy's personality. Michael is laid back, always has been. Zach is a ball of fire!!!(Gets his hyper personality from his mom.) Shhh! Don't tell anyone I said that.
Hi Greymare! Know what I thought of? The song...The old greymare ain't what she used to be. LOL
Loretta, we are in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. About 3 1/2 hours north of Austin. Yes, the winds have been horrible, therefore the fire danger. We are getting warnings all the time.
Helen, thanks for sending the photo of the PEEPING egg. Has no one seen the eggs since that photo was taken? This is so exciting. I'll bet we will all be on here EARLY tomorrow morning...I know I will. Once they start feeding the little fuzzball, we will be able to take a peek:)
I put my 2some BW pic on this blog. Margy may have put hers on E_M. Lolly, I had originally thought you were near Dallas. Sec. at the Park is from that area & her married daughter lives N. of there. Understand there is more ice there than other areas. Gonna go eat. My NBG is kaput.
LOLLY---I remarked to LORETTA--much earlier today that I loved her BIRD!!---ho!!---Then you showed her your 'PENQUINS'!!---I wanted you to know that I have a grandson named ZACH & a granddaughter named ELLIS!--- ho!
For those of you who are Tom Sellick fans...I have posted a photo on Just for Fun of my ex-S-I-L and daughter. He looked very much like Tom and was in law inforcement. (still is)
Didn't tell you about yesterdays "Shower". It was for everyone, not just ladies. Started at 4PM at Clubhouse. Hors de ouevres were there 1st-little crab squares, lots of different dips w/crackers, cold veggies, cheese, crock pot of little hot dogs in sauce, then came out oysters on the 1/2 shell, steamed shrimp, and Swedish meatballs +. about an hour or so later, dinner came out!!!!Lasagna, ham, macaroni & cheese!! I had none of that. Then, while the 3rd round of present opening was continuing, they cut the 3 tiered cake--also on that table was fudge, cookies, etc! I packed up some fudge before I left, but didn't have anything else! The girl having the baby was the one whose bridesmaid was the lady I talked about who had lymphoma & then leukemia & passed away last summer. Her name was Sienna & she was 1/2 Am. Indian. They are naming baby girl Seanna.
With all that food at the cam then all that food where Lolly was for the shower. I hate to think if they were just getting married what the menu would be like..
The poor kitty did not know what to eat. Too much on the menu. My kitty would have gone for the ice cream! Whenever we eat ice cream, which NOT on my menu anymore, she comes in and sits and stares at us.
Loretta - I can't believe you didn't pack up more goodies/food Darn it if you came home and had to cook a meal! Are you on Lolly's diet? I would have needed to stay home and not be tempted with all of that!
Black cat with white paws is a pretty one BUT what is the mark on his right shoulder?
Do you see the long necked toy behind the cat. Isn't that the ardvark?
I think the toy is a dinosaur, isn't it? Whatever is on the cat, I don't think was there the other night, but I didn't save that picture. It is definitely eating its fill tonight.

Taking an awful long time to upload.....hughes cop will probably nab me for traveling under the speed limit...argh!
Whew. Thanks Lynn and Steve.(Hope you are right and the snow might not head your way).

think it depends on when it actuall started to hatch, anywhere between 24 to 48 hours...?
From Lisa's site....
When the eaglet is ready to hatch, it will turn itself inside the egg and pierce the egg’s air sac, then the chick will take its first breath of air from within the shell. Next the chick will use its neck muscles and egg tooth (on the tip of its beak) to pip or punch a small hole in the shell. so 24 hours.

Thanks Steve for the new thread and Lynn for the heads up.
That red tail hawk is STILL there at Portland.
Thanks will check out email.
You are right about that, Helen, but Weather Channel is one that actually uses the temperature here in Vermillion. Weatherbug uses Elk Point.
I see pictures, Lynn!

HEY NATURENUT----That's one COOL BIRD!!
Good Sunday afternoon!! Been cleaning house all day, YUK!! But man, I love it when it is done. Only lasts for an hour or so, but I love it for that long.
So we are expecting an egg at BWE any time, huh?
It looks like it is spitting snow now at NBG to make matters worse.
YES, LYNN it was yahoo.
Oh Mits! I can't remember what
CRS stands for
Couldn't pass that one up! Red might

Norma, HI! You mean the penguin? I didn't know we'd get weather to match his habitat!!!LOL
I am hoping that it is just rain too MITS. AND the way that tree is rocking back and forth has my heart in my throat too.
Down here we are hoping for no snow as we don't want school called. It would mean going to school on this coming Saturday. :(
Thx Candy! Guess there's no break for the weary!
HEY SISSY!!---I wondered where you all were----Saw it had snowed in BLUEFIELD----I agree---"HAVING A CLEAN HOUSE IS THE GREATEST FEELING EVER"-----(sissy---takes so little to make us happy) ho!
Naturenut, I guess the eagle felt that he/she had been there right along, so might as well stay there and hunker down. :)
Yeah, it is snowing at a pretty good clip right now. We had a winter storm warning but they canceled it (hasn't stopped snowing since they canceled). We have about 2 inches right now, heavy wet snow. The bamboo in my front yard is on the ground! ☺ ☻

Candy, we are in a valley here and sometimes get thunder snow! I'll go check out beach cam at Avalon Pier!

hits Bethesda.
Going to check out the OC cams...
I am with you JO. I like it being lighter longer at night.
they usually have a night light at NBG, Loretta
I hope Paula gets up the road ahead of the snow or sleet/ice.
Night Light on at BWE
Difficult to tell if it's the light or if
the nest is filled with snow crystals!
Loretta, I haven't been able to get NBG for awhile now. It went askew, then looked like the cam pulled back from the close up of the nest and then next thing I knew, it was black. I do hope everything is ok there. It was blowing that nest pretty bad.
light snow here now, Jo
WVU BEAT SFL---GOOD GAME!
I think it is snow coming down. Stay warm little hatcher!
Congrats NORMA. Now our PE teacher will be feeling better. She'll come in smiling tomorrow. :)

Just got NBG to open---adult stood up for sec & then back down---very windy.
Thanks for all the instant weather reports - we do better then any weatherman/woman!
We just had a change in OUR eagle's position. I missed it while it was happening. I am so happy that our egg well is deep! I just wish that BWE would have made their egg well deeper!
NBG is really deep from the pics I've seen.
could be deeper tahn we think Jo, camera angle may not show it...just started snowing here and already I hear the sirens, these goofy drivers:(
WELCOME GREYMARE!!!---Where are you from?
Thanks for the heads up Loretta. I can just make out the white head bobbing and weaving in the black. The poor thing. I just hope the tree holds.
BWE has turned and is again tenting. You can see that the nest is starting to cover, I think. The poor thing
BWE moved, too and I missed that.
Thanks CANDY!---I have forgotten---Is your coach from WVU?
Huge tenting at BWE
NORMA Our Physical Education teacher wnet to oh, oh, what happened at BWE
Welcome back, Norma, & Hello to Greymare!
We LUV penguins too, got the movie couple years ago (not the cartoon) & a T-shirt.
still just rain at beaches, but if the temp goes down for them it will turn to snow.
WHAT will I watch tonight??---I don't like TOM SELLECK----
ok, it cleared back up again. Whew
Our PE teacher graduated from West Virginia. She is also an avid Duke fan. I'll cheer for WV but BOO DUKE. :)
THANKS JO!---I had forgotten about the time change!!----(any baby news)?---
They've got ZZ on camera now, eating her bamboo. First I've seen of her in days.
She's about 100 lbs. now, but she still is a sweetheart.
C(°Ù¿°)D
Jim
Our eagle is up and at the side of the nest.
Egg roll- our nest
Back on eggs, may live feed hasn't budged.
Get back on those eggs. Hurry up.
CANDY!---I don't like any school that plays NC!---ho!---I am a NC fan!!!
Sure looks like snow at BW.
Also the time of year for osprey's to return. There always seems to be bad weather after they are here. Maybe their timing will be better, I hope!
No baby news - Going to call in a little while to check out things in Hedgesville.
NORMA Perhaps with no TV on tonight to interest you YOU could be assigned our BWE Hatching Head Huncho!
Belle is looking all around - I think those bluebirds are chattering about the weather!
Thanks NORMA, you are a DOLL! :)
Don't like how fast our Lady Blackwater is being covered with that white stuff!
It is really coming down, I thought I was going to lose the picture one time.
I was just thinking the same thing JO. Maybe we had all better say a prayer for all our feathered friends who are out in the awful weather tonight. Lets hope that the baby eagle doesn't decide to make it's appearance tonight.
I just have faith that Lady Blackwater knows when it is time to get up and
shake off!
Thank goodness, our nest is still ok,
Thanks MOVIN'JIM!-----But I missed PRECIOUS!!---How long was she on?
Candy both parents were huddled together around 5 this a.m. at BWE...already deleted my pics of it that I sent around, but think Loretta may have put it on eagle momster album..???
Thanks for the info Helen. I'll have to take a look. It would only stand to reason. I just keep thinking that eagles live and stay alive in Alaska.
I would still like to throw a blanket over Lady Blackwater tho.
Waxing Crescent Moon tonight-- MARGY????
Shaking off the now!
Egg roll, at BWE
BWE moving
Back to tenting. I was hoping we might get a quick look at the eggs.
She shook herself off and is ready to start again. She is really tenting now..
LORETTA has a photo---she took last night----shows both EAGLES in the BWE nest!!-----Maybe it will happen again tonight!!
Well, I'm not Margy, but yes, waxing crescent moon tonite- course we can't see it cause of the clouds.
Egg roll our nest
Where is PAULA!---MD has a game this evening!!
Paula has been at her Mom's since yesterday a.m., she will be back tonight.
DEER eating at PA SITE---Don't see any snow!
Ms. Goose is wearing a Shamrock Dress on the Snowman cam!
Oh good, Lady BW shoot off the snow!
Helen, thanks for sending the photo of the PEEPING egg. Has no one seen the eggs since that photo was taken? This is so exciting. I'll bet we will all be on here EARLY tomorrow morning...I know I will. Once they start feeding the little fuzzball, we will be able to take a peek:)
oh good, she was naked earlier.
tonight's menu at Saline....
Tonight's menu:
Salmon cat food
Dry cat food
Salami (cotto)
Bassgetti with tomato sauce
Garden Salad
Steamed Clams
New England Clam Chowder
Ice Cream!
No precip here yet.
Loretta See the pic on your site of the two sharing the nest. Thanks. Oops sister is calling.....
LOLLY---I remarked to LORETTA--much earlier today that I loved her BIRD!!---ho!!---Then you showed her your 'PENQUINS'!!---I wanted you to know that I have a grandson named ZACH & a granddaughter named ELLIS!--- ho!
Must fix supper---
For those of you who are Tom Sellick fans...I have posted a photo on Just for Fun of my ex-S-I-L and daughter. He looked very much like Tom and was in law inforcement. (still is)
JO!---I'll watch 60 MIN.---They have ANDERSON COOPER!!---He's COOL!---ho!
I need to go eat at Saline!!!
Yes, Norma he is! I just had it on!
That was quite the feast for a shower, Loretta!
good Lord, what a spread, Loretta, snowing harder here now, already laying.
Black cat is at Saline!
Norma, is her first name Ellis? Neat! Often I call Jack "Ellis", our last name.
Jacob, our daughter's son, is Jacob Ellis Fritz.
Zach is short for Zachary, BUT he is to NEVER be called that. LOL And it is Zach, to rhyme with his grandaddy, Jack.
Wow BWE just shook off..
With all that food at the cam then all that food where Lolly was for the shower. I hate to think if they were just getting married what the menu would be like..
BWE shook off the snow again.
Loretta, I like your friends parties...I think I would like to hang out with them!
The poor kitty did not know what to eat. Too much on the menu. My kitty would have gone for the ice cream! Whenever we eat ice cream, which NOT on my menu anymore, she comes in and sits and stares at us.
I thought the same thing, Dana:)
Loretta - I can't believe you didn't pack up more goodies/food
Darn it if you came home and had to cook a meal!
Are you on Lolly's diet? I would have needed to stay home and not be tempted with all of that!
Black cat with white paws is a pretty one BUT what is the mark on his right shoulder?
Do you see the long necked toy behind the cat. Isn't that the ardvark?
Hey DANA...you did it!!
I think the toy is a dinosaur, isn't it? Whatever is on the cat, I don't think was there the other night, but I didn't save that picture. It is definitely eating its fill tonight.
