Did anyone get a photo of that varmint? I didn't move fast enough:(

NatureNut said...

Me too, Helen. I didn't think it would get moved so soon & was rather gross.

That would be wonderful, Steve.

Good luck John!

hedgie said...

Morning all eaglet watchers! Great news from Steve...hoping it all works out! Congrats to NBG on #3!
I don't see this varmint you all are talking about...but looked at Deb's captures....where did it go? Did Belle toss it out? Very strange looking thing, whatever it was.
Nice article in our local paper about Jen Miller, the young lady from MD state parks who brought the eagle to Open House, and her work with the birds and reptiles in MD. I will try to scan it and send it out in an email.

Mits said...

paula eagleholic said...

Costume Lady said...

Thanks, Deb for posting the varmint in our nest. Gene couldn't figure it out either. Could be a fox or a small dog. It must have not tasted good...it is gone now!

Mema Jo said...

Good Morning All!
WOW! Glad you caught that pic... I would never have imagined that something that large could have been brought into the nest. I remember last year the Bloody Deer Kill but this is really Mystery Meat! Yes Steve, go check out the bottom of the tree!

Your plan for more bandwidth will do the trick for our Live Feed! WHoo Hoo!

deb said...

I enlarged the picture and put that on Nest Pictures, don't know if that will help, I think it makes it too fuzzy.

Costume Lady said...

I guess it could be the skin of a deer with no meat on it and that is why it got thrown overboard.
Hope Steve checks it out...if he sees it, he is surely as curious as we are.

hedgie said...

Thanks, Mits.
Email on it's way....hope you can open it...it's an image file, not a word document.

hedgie said...

Still can't make it out, Deb!! Definitely is mystery meat--or hide!

Norma, floods in ND are far from me. I am in southern SD right near the NE border.

Helen, it was a good game, SDSU led all the way until about the 2 minute mark. They still did well for their first tourney at that level.

I took a look at Deb's pics of the mystery prey that Lib brought in; and I think it "might be" a blanket or a gunny sack...something man made.

I remember reading Deb's report that Loraine at the Kent site thought they would not nest there this year, but I don't recall if the change of mind has been recorded here.

Loraine says the pair have been back and are acting more amorously than usual. And she also thinks the snows and inclement weather might be the cause of the delay.

She mentioned photos, but I didn't find any, so I put that question on the site a minute ago.

Yesterday I was at my local Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my two dogs and was in the checkout line when woman behind me asked if I had a dog.
What did she think I had, an elephant?
So since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.
I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.)
Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's butt and a car hit us both.
I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Wal-Mart won't let me shop there anymore.

movin said...

Great shot, Glo. Thanks.

It seems to have gotten right into the swing already. And for some reason it doesn't look a lot smaller than #2 in that photo.

“3rd Chick Hatched”
The 3rd eaglet at the Norfolk Botanical Garden hatched this morning! Early camera viewers caught glimpses of movement that looked enticingly like a third chick was hatching at about 7:12 am. It was difficult to get a clear view however, and we couldn't absolutely confirm the chick until shortly after 9am.

In this image you can see the third chick raise its head as the adult female feeds the siblings. The youngest eaglet is still a bit damp and tired but the fact that it is interested in the food being offered is a good sign. Once it is able to raise its head the adults will begin to feed it as well.

Lynn, if I walked down to the fence, I don't thing I would get a very good shot. I would be down too low. Maybe if I stood on a ladder:) I will give it a try, with the new camera.

Good luck Red. Hope he can find something to help you.

Look at all the vittles in our nest.

Is that 'thang' over there about 3 o'clock?

deb said...

A small explosion occurred at Redoubt volcano at 05:12 AKDT (1312 UTC). The cloud height is estimated to be about 15,000 ft and is drifting north to northwest of the volcano. The event lasted about 10 minutes.

You are right, Redoubt isn't done:
A small explosive event occurred at 10:17 AKDT this morning. This explosion triggered a flowage event on the north flank of the volcano as indicated by seismicity.
