floralgirl said...

He turned around, and you could see all 3 eggs.

Mits said...

going to be difficult this year with the cam freezing at different times for each of us, but that is life:)

Thanks for the Jo update, Sharon.

Well, getting ready to get out of here. Keep eagle eyes out, gang! BBL this afternoon.

Mits said...

egg rolling

glo said...

It sure would be nice to be able to see any movement in any of those eggs when eagle is up off of them. :( argh. Freuqent rolling or tending to the eggs does seem to suggest parent is busy hearing and maybe helping with a hatch but who knows at this point.

Lolly said...

HORNBY ISLAND EAGLE NEST UPDATE - March 5, 2009

When will the eggs be laid? By all the grass brought to the nest, you feel it could be any day now. However, the history of the Hornby Eagles suggest it will not be for another two weeks.

Year - 1st egg - 2nd egg
2005 - Mar 30 - Apr 3
2006 - Mar 21 - Mar 25
2007 - Mar 24 - Mar 28
2008 _ _

Another nest on Hornby Island, which I could look into from a cliff

2004 - Mar 26 _

WHAT TO LOOK FOR JUST BEFORE EGG-LAYING
Female sitting down on nest more and more
Female reluctant to leave the nest area
Male may bring fish (herring) for her to eat

IMMINENT EGG-LAYING
Female's feathers stick out like a porcupine
Her body starts contractions, every two or three seconds
She opens her beak a quarter inch and emits grunts with each contraction
This may last for 3 or 4 minutes

I hope that some of you spot the egg-laying process and capture it on camera.

UPDATE FROM HH.....

09 March 2009
On Saturday, 7 March, our female laid her first egg around 11:25 a.m. One viewer noted seeing two eggs, but only one egg appears to have been laid.

With the arrival of the egg, our osprey parents will contribute to the incubation duties, although the female will carry out the majority of the incubating. The male continues to deliver fish to his mate, which will persist until the young fledge or the nest fails. Incubation for ospreys is approximately 40 days, so we could have hatchlings by Easter, but technically hatching could come anywhere from 35-43 days, depending on the egg’s development. A female osprey will generally lay 2 to 4 eggs over the course of a few days so more eggs may on their way.

We’ll update the Osprey Gallery again within the week.

Kay and Jay, the Tulsa Red-tails

Mits said...

AWWW they named the male after my jubby:)

deb said...

We probably have the same picture, Paula. There might be a hole showing in one egg, but it could be a shadow.

It is really snowing in Portland and the egg is not being incubated. The hawk is on the railing.

Check out the NM owl, very pretty today. New Mexico GHOW

Lolly said...

Thank you! :)

NatureNut said...

Shoot, while I went for coffe, see she has changed position.
Thx Paula for roll description.
Since we saw hole yesterday afternoon, and usually takes 24 hrs. to hatch, probably won't be til sometime in PM.

DC Woman Stabbed To
Death in New York

LONG ISLAND, NY - A Washington D.C. woman was stabbed to death while on a trip to New York Sunday morning.

Sixty-one year old Nancy McKinley was staying at a friend's house in the Bellport neighborhood of Long Island when an intruder entered the home and stabbed her several times.

McKinley was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where she later died.

Suffolk County Police have arrested twenty-two year old Robert Schiavo and have charged him with the murder.

The investigation is still continuing.
