Good Morning Fellow Twitchy Nest Watchers ☺

Hope it's going to be a good one for everyone.

A little sideline: I heard Spring Peepers last night in Morgan County, not very many and not for very long, but it sure was a sweet sound ♪ ♫

Also: you all probably know this but your Male Robins have a much darker head and redder breast, and Female Robins more light color on head and slightly paler breast They are all singing in my neighborhood this morning.

I've never seen them side by side on the branches before that is way cool, esp on full screen !

movin said...

From the other thread:

In Santa Ana here, there are at least a few Hummingbirds per area all year round. I think some stay even if nobody feeds them extra nectar.

If they can't find nectar, they can feed almost exclusively on those little gnat type of flying insects, which they feed to their babies. But there is usually something blooming here somewhere all year round. Hard to see how they make sometimes though in the middle of Winter.

They usually start mating and getting ready for their brood about a week or two before Spring arrives.

Good morning! Well, winter has returned to Texas. It is presently 38 and the best news..........we have had over an inch of rain and it is still coming down. Wahoooo!! Lolly is indoors today. Boy, will things green up after this.

Glo, we love you and appreciate your pictures and videos. Looking at the video. I too thought it was a hatch. And, of course, wanted it to be a hatch.

Thought the hummingbird migration map very interesting. Thanks, Megan. We are told to put out our feeders April 1, so I have not put mine out yet. The map, however, shows hummers north of us. So, when it warms up...out go the feeders.

Guess I should try to get some housework done today. I would rather just sit here and watch Belle.

Weight loss going great this week. I am so excited! About 19 pounds now. I am really telling the difference in my clothes and Jack told me yesterday he could see it in the fit of my jeans. :)

Have a great day. Going to put up the cam and read the paper.

NatureNut said...

I need a blue thingy for Finney's nest. I am on my laptop and do not have it here. Yes, I could get up and get it from my PC, but I am lazy, you see. Thanks!

Costume Lady said...

GOOD GIRL!!

floralgirl said...

That hummingbird migration map is neat, and of course, you can add your own sightings. We usually see them here around mid to late April, depending on the weather patterns, and sometimes we will have them pass thru on their way further north.

Lolly said...

Yeah, Wanda! I accused him. His excuse, "Well, I am walking behind you." ha!

Red, LOL....all of the dachshunds we've had would come running the minute a can of sauerkraut was opened!!! My mom always opened two cans because my dad would eat so much right out of the can AND share it w/ the dogs!! Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I have seen a waxwing here one time and that was last year. My holly bush/tree is right outside my window where I work. The robins appear to scope it out for nesting too but too much happening there wtih my feeding the rest of the birds right here. Chickadees, titmouse, white-throated sparrows, cardinals, mourning doves, house sparrows, finches - I think that is the list I have seen today, and robins!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

To add to the bird list - junco, blue jay, house finch and I think chipping sparrows.

How is your daughter coming along?

Lolly said...

Hi all! Been running errands and my cam stayed up and did not freeze for a couple of hours. However, I thought it was frozen 'cause she was sitting so still. Hit the refresh the second she moved her head. LOL

Still no news!!!

Going to eat a bite of lunch and then to the excercise/walk. I really like this DVD, you walk in place...rain or shine. It works for me. Like to walk outside, but it seems it is always too hot or too cold. This excercise really get the heart to pumping.

That is the plan Sharon. except this time it is from a job I actually love and have done for like 20 years minus those awful months with the job I hated while we were waiting on this new shelter to be opened. Its a long story but YES I think its time. I need to be more free to see family, enjoy what time I have left with Dex etc. I can flip hamburgers or not down the road if I need to but have to put some stress and commitment down for a while. I will still volunteer to do their stats but said I would not commit to any particular time and day. Just wait til some piles up and then head in and do it LOL. MTBR want a hamburger? LOL

At Maine, the female is making big sounds and doing 'ceremonial' nest work, jumping up on the branch next to the male, and calling out loudly again. All the time they are both watching carefully for challengers to their territory.

They are getting serious about nesting now, and they want to take care of any challenges to the territory now. Very interesting.

Got my nap in and did some domestice duties. Made my famous Chicken Enchalada Casserole for dinner tonight. When Mrs. Red calls I'll plop it in the oven and it'll be ready when she arrives.
Here's the recipe if anyone would like to try it.

Chicken Enchilada Casserole

2 Cans Cream of Mushroom Soup
2 Cans Cream of Chicken Soup
2 Cans of Green Chopped Chilies
1 Whole Chicken, boiled and cut into bite sized pieces(I sometimes use 3 large cans of Swansons precooked chicken).
1 Pound of Cheddar Cheese, shredded
1 Pound of Monterey Jack Cheese, shredded
1 Package of Corn Tortillas

Mix Soups, Chilies and Chicken
Cut Tortillas into triangular shapes
Layer Tortillas, Chicken, and Cheese in a baking dish. (We use a 9x13 but a deeper dish might be better)
Final layer should be cheese.
Bake at 350 – 400 degrees till bubbly. About ½ hour depending on size of bowl
