In Santa Ana here, there are at least a few Hummingbirds per area all year round. I think some stay even if nobody feeds them extra nectar.
If they can't find nectar, they can feed almost exclusively on those little gnat type of flying insects, which they feed to their babies. But there is usually something blooming here somewhere all year round. Hard to see how they make sometimes though in the middle of Winter.
They usually start mating and getting ready for their brood about a week or two before Spring arrives.

At Maine, the female is making big sounds and doing 'ceremonial' nest work, jumping up on the branch next to the male, and calling out loudly again. All the time they are both watching carefully for challengers to their territory.
They are getting serious about nesting now, and they want to take care of any challenges to the territory now. Very interesting.
Got my nap in and did some domestice duties. Made my famous Chicken Enchalada Casserole for dinner tonight. When Mrs. Red calls I'll plop it in the oven and it'll be ready when she arrives. Here's the recipe if anyone would like to try it.
Chicken Enchilada Casserole
2 Cans Cream of Mushroom Soup 2 Cans Cream of Chicken Soup 2 Cans of Green Chopped Chilies 1 Whole Chicken, boiled and cut into bite sized pieces(I sometimes use 3 large cans of Swansons precooked chicken). 1 Pound of Cheddar Cheese, shredded 1 Pound of Monterey Jack Cheese, shredded 1 Package of Corn Tortillas
Mix Soups, Chilies and Chicken Cut Tortillas into triangular shapes Layer Tortillas, Chicken, and Cheese in a baking dish. (We use a 9x13 but a deeper dish might be better) Final layer should be cheese. Bake at 350 – 400 degrees till bubbly. About ½ hour depending on size of bowl
Future plans include Eye Exam and retiring. Get your video cams ready for tonight we do need a hatch or we have got one egg in trouble I'm afraid...but it won't be me "calling" it tonight.
I can't believe Live cam has stayed Live for about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs here! Was bad around noonish. Going home soon--probably be clogged tonight when others are home also! OH, WELL, IT IS WHAT IT IS!! ☺

No, Jim, even Maine people aren't sure who is who today. Nest dispute has been happening today.
I was thinking the same thing about Atlanta cam, Paula.
Nice big fish at BWE
BWE - Chicks snuggled together, parent in the nest with a fish....LIFE IS GOOD!!!
BWE chicks were white a few minutes ago. Now they look in their dark, second stage fluff, and one might be showing signs of pin feathers on her wings.
Still very cute, and what great catch Dad brought in for them.

Is the Maine forum server down today, or do I have old links?
I wanted to read about the recent intrusions, but can't even open the site yet.

Both parent now at BWE, and Mom has taken control of dinner.
Mom has arrived at BW, and she appears to be getting dinner ready.

AND MEGAN Hello!
2 Cans Cream of Mushroom Soup
2 Cans Cream of Chicken Soup
2 Cans of Green Chopped Chilies
1 Whole Chicken, boiled and cut into bite sized pieces(I sometimes use 3 large cans of Swansons precooked chicken).
1 Pound of Cheddar Cheese, shredded
1 Pound of Monterey Jack Cheese, shredded
1 Package of Corn Tortillas
Mix Soups, Chilies and Chicken
Cut Tortillas into triangular shapes
Layer Tortillas, Chicken, and Cheese in a baking dish. (We use a 9x13 but a deeper dish might be better)
Final layer should be cheese.
Bake at 350 – 400 degrees till bubbly. About ½ hour depending on size of bowl
I still have live cam, but I had better not speak too loudly.
Wow Red, does that supper of yours sound good. Mrs. Red is one lucky lady tonight.
Is that Dex?
OK, Glo, got your number!!! I totally agree!
My live cam is finally going. I say that softly.
Hi Thelma ( : Hi Candy ( :
Safe travels home Paula and Loretta and anyone else heading home.

Red hubby wouldn't eat it because of the Chilies. He does love soft Tacos though....yummy
