wvgal_dana said...

I DON'T SEE THE EGG THAT WAS IN THE NEST AT HH???

normabyrd said...

DANA---Would be hard to see that EGG!----SEEMS She is always on alert!!

Mits said...

Thanks to our viewer's watchful eyes, the first egg of the 2009 season has been spotted. Osprey usually lay two to four eggs within one to two days apart. Each egg is approximately the size of a chicken egg, mottled and cinnamon colored; is incubated for about 5 weeks to hatching and both parents help to incubate the eggs.

We may have another egg any day so keep watching.

wvgal_dana said...

Well she must have hid it becasue I certainly seen it clearly yesterday. Hope she has placed it under nest materials.

deb said...

Lolly said...

Good morning! Just wanted to get on long enough to say hi. Have been watching our nest while getting ready and eating breakfast. We are hitching up and heading out. Won't be back on til this afternoon. Maybe Belle will wait til I am home. :)

Have a fantastic day chatting and watching! It is cloudy and we may have a rain to travel in. Texas needs rain....as the song says!

BBL...this evening!

deb said...

I hope you get that rain, Lolly. HH osprey is up, I saw one egg.

deb said...

I have it shrunk down, so didn't notice the chat room. Owl is sure pretty, and ITS AWAKE!

Went out and got the car washed and vacuumed, too!

time for breakfast here...

hedgie said...

That owl nest, made of chicken wire and rubberized tarp, sure IS strange....kind of surprising that they take to it, but sounds like they are opportunists....just wonder what they found attractive about it to settle in there the first year?!?!

NatureNut said...

Good video, Paula. Neat to see a slow mo float off!! ☺

NatureNut said...

Just got GHO in her "hammock". What a beautiful bird.

deb said...

Libby Dam nest is snow covered.

deb said...

EAGLE UP!

NatureNut said...

NatureNut said...

Checked the old Delta 1 at Sidney, BC & cam says "looking for sponsors"! Wonder if the eagles repaired that nest.Part of it fell away at fledge time. I miss Teddy!

deb said...

I decided it was time to tackle the sidewalk and driveway, but someone beat me to it! I think my neighbor across the street. I saw him doing quite a few driveways on his side of the street.

NatureNut said...

Well Deb, isn't that nice!

deb said...

Yes, it was! It will mostly melt today if the weather is right, supposed to get to 40.

paula eagleholic said...

Heading outside...will be checking cam

wvgal_dana said...

Well it is 80° here at my house.

Large woodpecker is taking the feed from my bird feeder and not the suet pack lol

paula eagleholic said...

I think BWE could use some fresh vittles...

NatureNut said...

Hooray, a SPOT! And while I was out, Fubby closed all my sites. Finally my Live cam opened!

T-Bird said...

hello everyone

deb said...

It took forever for mine to open, too. I thought it was my computer.

T-Bird said...

paula and eagle-eye, do we have one?

wvgal_dana said...

I do believe from Paula's great picture. We have chick breaking through. Looks like the tooth hole.
Oh boy !! Oh boy !!

wvgal_dana said...

NatureNut said...

Welcome home, Lolly. Good timing.
Paula, hope Mount wins!

BBL--gotta see about din din

glo said...

Man I don't want to be a sore sport but sure would be easier to know whats happening if the moving things on the live cam could actually move a little more consistently. Geula might get her birthday present soon. But is it March 9 in Isreal yet lOL.

Lolly said...

Good picture, Paula! Yea!

glo said...

Ha Ha guess this littl eone gets born in Shepherdstown time which still works for Geula for a while yet.

glo said...

I hav e"live" zoomed in...what special expressions and head nods I am seeing...cute or sweet whatever. Listening for us I guess.

hedgie said...

I was thinking that live wasn't showing much faster activity than 30 sec. cam, too....
Hi Thelma! Hey, Lolly, is home really home or just back to the camp???

T-Bird said...

Funny you mention that Lynn, home is back to the camp not were the heart is right now.

Mits said...

feeding BWE

T-Bird said...

I feel an eaglet coming on!

wvgal_dana said...

Welcome back Lolly!

DEB HH has a forum earlier this morning a lady name Jo put a comment that there was now 2 eggs. I put that information on this thread. Since that I have been in checking. The moderator took her comment off. Since it was wrong. Only 1 egg in HH nest laid 11:56 March 7th.

hedgie said...

Don't you just know that this will be a nighttime hatch and we won't be able to see???

T-Bird said...

How long does a hatching take from start to finish?

wvgal_dana said...

Our eggs are showing.

Mits said...

around 24 hours or so, Thelma

deb said...

I watched it, too, Dana and saw only one egg.

deb said...

My live feed had eggs showing forever, just now moved forward.

T-Bird said...

thanks MITS, I knew you'd have it

wvgal_dana said...

From Lisa's BWE page:
When the eaglet is ready to hatch, it will turn itself inside the egg and pierce the egg’s air sac, then the chick will take its first breath of air from within the shell. Next the chick will use its neck muscles and egg tooth (on the tip of its beak) to pip or punch a small hole in the shell. The eaglet will continue to slowly turn and peck until it has cut a hole around the diameter of the shell so that it can push out the bottom half and free itself. This process is very tiring for the chick and can take 24 hours to complete since the young bird will frequently stop to rest. Once the eaglet is out, it will be wet and tired with its eyes closed, but it won’t be long before it dries off and is soon able to see and sit up.

Mits said...

saw 3 eggs, did not see the black spot that time.

deb said...

There is still a black spot on an egg. I'll post the picture.

T-Bird said...

thanks Dana, great info

Mits said...

thanks, Deb.

NatureNut said...

Our parent got up for little while---could see all 3 eggs, but don't think the SPOT was showing.

deb said...

I think it is a black spot and not grass. It is on the egg that is in back of the other two.

NatureNut said...

Saw a dark mark toward bottom of well, but looked like on aq different egg, unless they got rolled earler. No roll this time, but some staring!

Mits said...

then it is a different egg that has the spot, last pics awhile back had it on an egg in left side of nest cup ???

deb said...

They have been rolled since Paula's picture was posted.

Mits said...

got cha!!

NatureNut said...

Deb, I have pretty much the same pic as yours. Thought maybe spot on bottom of back egg.

Mits said...

sunset coming up at 7:11 p.m.

deb said...

Thats what I think, Loretta.

Lolly said...

We are home home!! ☺ We are unloaded and we had to leave for a while to get Annie (the cat) from camp.

wvgal_dana said...

I'm now down to waiting for something greyish and fuzzy. lol
Too many spots around for me to tell anything for sure except Paula's definately had a black spot. Not saying that you alls don't.

hedgie said...

Just saw--and heard--a gaggle of geese heading north! Hooe they aren't going being fooled by this summery weather!

glo said...

I think its time for grayish and fuzzy too but as time passes the chances of us seeing it are getting trickier as night starts to fall. I think I will back away from the computer for a while which might help you all see a hatch LOL.

hedgie said...

Well, you know what I meant to say! Guess fingers and brain were not in sync!!!

T-Bird said...

LOL glo

Mits said...

where did our eagle go??

wvgal_dana said...

Watch the cam on HH where the sunset hits the Osprey.

deb said...

Eggs were alone, darn glare.

Mits said...

yes, Deb, when I brought it back up nest was MT, went to Still and eagle was there.

wvgal_dana said...

OK My thinking is this: The one you all are calling Snow White. Has decided not to come out due to taking care of 7 men. The one you all are calling Frosty. Has decided not to come out because it is smart and it know being Frosty lol in this warm weather it "melts". Then their is Lu (loo) it knows that means it goes somewhere and doesn't come back for lonnnnnnnggggggg periods. That my story and I'm sticking to it. lol

deb said...

It was only one refresh that they were alone. Eagle was there when I posted, at 12 ish. Then gone and replacement arrived. I got pictures, I need to check them out.

deb said...

Sun is very pretty on the osprey nest.

wvgal_dana said...

or (Lou) if boy

Mits said...

back up

Mits said...

back down

deb said...

Between the glare and zooming in it is really bad picture. I missed getting a shot, on that roll.

Mits said...

seems very alert tonight

T-Bird said...

sure does MITS

wvgal_dana said...

Wonder if there would be a rainbow if it would shine on the HH Osprey like that sunset is?

T-Bird said...

Ofcourse, I'm excited and ready so it could be me paying more attention than normal.

Mits said...

I don't get excited til I see a live chick.

magpie said...

Whoo Hoo, just made it on before the Split..maybe..xox Hi Everyone !
