Hello all! What a glorious 2nd day in a row for me. Yesterday was baby eagle hatchday and today at work, Patuxent River Park, I spotted the first ospreys to return!!!!!!Sorry to stray from NCTC events, but this was so exciting!! I stayed late to see if any flew by & before I left our returning osprey w/fish in foot had a food fight w/an eagle! The osprey won & claimed his nest platform. What luck to observe that! Will visit later....gotta do dinner....think I'll celebrate & fix steak!
I got an answer from Linda. She said we wouldn't have seen anything except the removal of the chicks from the nest. They were taken to a shady area to do the banding. She did say that they filmed it and will post it later on the site. It will be on NBC news at a later date.
No idea as to when that might be. I will forward her reply later.
Belle is really tenting its rainng hard here right now... Checked owl cam and there are more owlets hatched...I saw atleast 2 moving... Texas owl has 7 eggs and both are in the box she on eggs and he standing...

Ok Jill sent back yes 3 owl cams but none the same ... the active #1 i saw 3 owlets for sure and she is restless and thought another is hatching... Cam #2 she is on eggs... Night cam looks like there maybe an owl inside of box...
Jill must be a wreck or something big going on up by bowling alley BCS n 2 ambulances just went up pass here .. Looked out n see tail lights up that way You have amonitor?
Just saw owl parent off eggs on cam 2 and there were at least 5 eggs visible. I am really getting confused. They must be two different cams as I didn't see any white fuzz anyplace; just eggs.
My cousin kept asking me and I didn't know so I asked Nilla. If you read the home page it sounds as if there is only one nest but it just didn't look right.
Okay talk about losing your mind. I just went away to check a camera, came back. When it came back it showed the page before the split. I saw Jo's comment about Who the heck is Sylvia? My first thought was Jo we explained that to you earlier. Then I realized I was on the old comments. LOL
I think that everyone is getting a little dipsy form watching all the cams and action. There is just too much going on at one time. Hard to keep track of it all.
OWLS The 2nd owl cam was just added last week. It is listed as OwlCam 1 on the drop down - You can spot the difference by the nest box wall having some printing on it. 7 eggs I think and they are hatching.
The BarnOwl Cam 2 on the drop down is the original one that we referred to as Ms Owl at the Wildwatch Hotel. They still have BarnOwlCam 1 lettered on the cam. She has 6 eggs. I have been out this evening but I don't think her's are hatching yet. I need to catch up!
What I am waiting for is the Horned owl at University of Cal Bakersfield. She is such a beauty and easy to view. she is right out on the ledge of the Science Building. Isnt that smart?. What a great place to be.
Yes Jo thats the way i explained it to Jill the nest box is different inside... No eggs hatched yet in Mrs Owls box but she was pullin straw around her earlier...
I'll be headed up to Winchester this Thursday to visit Josh for his birthday. So close and yet so far to the eagle nest. This past weekend he finally made the leap and got engaged to a lovely girl that is a Senior at East Carolina U. that we have known for awhile. So there is excitement i the air at our house besides all these new chicks being brought into the world.
Thanks Megan. I just wondered if there was an egg and how big it looked. Heaven help the chick when and if there is one. It will have a hard time fitting into the nest with the parents. lol
I think I jinxed the Kent nest. Haven't seen an eagle since I started watching tonight, so I'll have to take your word for it. It makes me so happy to think that they will be rebuilding that nest back. Hope they hurray up.
I am watching Belle in that rain. I wish I could send her some warmth and the flowers that are blooming every where. My neighborhood looks like a nursery.
PAULA It has already started. I think the girls mom knew a little ahead of me what was going on. I finally called her last night on the phone to chat. She used to teach Title one in a school down here before owning a restaurant and then going on to the Homebuilders Association. They are a very nice family, and I couldn't be any happier. I have known the family for many years and her older daughter is Josh's age. He is marrying the younger of the two.
Hi Sharon! I finally got on for a bit tonight. Boy you sure don't want to stay off too long as you really miss alot. Things are really happening in the feathery world of birds, pandas, donkeys, and all other animals.
Megan, I just keep thinking of you and your beautiful flowers that you had last year. You must get a great bit of satiffaction out of doing this. I just love flowers.
Thanks PAULA. That is kind of you. I have been watching and listening to all of you pros, so I should be ready for this. :) Josh is our only child, so this is it. :):):)
Mits had a good saying about being the mother of the groom, something like "shut up, Dress up and have a good time" Can't remember the third part of the saying
Lot of heavy rain and gusting winds still to come here tonite, Candy. Going to be a long night for the eagles. But at least it's rain and not snow and ice.
At least the rain rolls off those beautiful feathers - snow just sorta buried them. Last year almost this same time was the SNOW. Thank you Lord for RAIN!
-Has anyone seen the male eagle since the chick hatched?
-We still have three eggs and no chicks?
-Barn owlets have hatched?
Oh, and Great Blue Herons only LOOK big -- they are tall, about 4 feet, but generally only weigh about 5 pounds or so! They're all legs, LOL...a juvenile GBH was my first solo rescue! It was amazing :)
Hi ya....my electric has been out, just my block, something about a pole fire......reading thru posts and Paula you have an excellent memory.....for the mother of the groom, it is "shut up, show up, and wear beige"...., it worked for me:)
watch is still up, just some heavy showers off and on...hubby made it safely from Cinn, Ohio....had to light his way into the house, because no power means you can't get into the garage
Thanks, Deb, for your comment about Norfolk. I just looked as I opened things, noticed a dark mass, but I decided it wasn't an eagle.
After I read your post, I looked again, and it's better lit and the white head is visible... I'm sure it means they are starting a new clutch now. Oooorah!!
You're welcome, Jim. It seems like the camera moved at NBG, I don't know what it is pointed at. I think I will join everyone, I am sitting here yawning.
Delphia, to answer one of your questions, I've definitely seen the BW male on BWO a couple of times today, and I "believe" I've seen him on the eggs a couple of times ... and I was only watching this morning.
"Anthropomorphizing" is a $10 word for ascribing human motivations and actions to animals (or inanimate objects?).
It's something we all do sometimes when watching these cams, but it can be carried too far ... and I can't see any positive benefit to be gotten from it when it gets out of hand.
For example the BW male...
Whatever the cause of his different instinctive behaviors from the male eagle's of last year, you can be sure it isn't because he's a no good, drunken wastrel, who is never home and never contributes to the upkeep of his family!
Why don't we just concentrate on the actual instinctive behavioral nature of these animals?
Jim we believe he indeed did sit on the eggs for a while today but nobody saw food brought in by anybody. Male or female. I would think after being there for 3 days whatever that little critter is would be reduced to bones and nothing else by now.
I try not to Anthropomorphize and just say "It is what it is" & I wouldn't be the one to fool around with Mother Nature.. I feel I have learned a great deal from the animal behaviors we have witnessed. But I my motherly instincts interfere some times...
I don't know if the female brought food in or not, but she is obviously not starving, so my guess is that food is being acquired by one or more of the adults.
They may have a different "agreement" between the adults from last year as to what each parent does and how much...who knows at this point.
But the basic objective is to feed both adults and the young, and as long as that is being accomplished, it isn't much of a problem as far as Mother Nature is concerned.
Don't forget the female eagle is larger and can determine what is done by which parent as long as the male is still in the area performing his instinctive part of the operation. And their instincts are very strong to produce healthy young eagles.

Hey, there's Mom and Dad in the VA nest...
Both EAGLES AT KENT one on branch, one in nest....so happy to see them
How can Mom lay an egg when Dad is always hogging the nest :)
there may have been a hatching at the WildWatch Cams born owl....Annemarie are you watching?
I think she is Mits, she sent me an email and said Mom was antsy.
yeah, got the mail too....that nest is nasty....
our eggs are showing
Our wet eagle was just up at the launchpad calling out...
Back on the eggs now
One eagle on Kent cam 2
And one on cam 1 :)
Did I ever get home at the right time. Both eagles in Kent, an eagle In LW, both eagles in Maine.
OH, cool ,didn't have the Maine cam up, thanks Deb.
Kent gone, but eagle at LW
CC1 chicks have really been wing flapping today...they are about 10 weeks old today...
Can I have the link the barn owl cam? Not sure which one you are watching.
Chick alert, BWE!
Parent just left Sylvia
Does that egg have a crack in it?
Now I would think that if I were a little eaglet, if something like that came flying at me, I would absolutely have a heart attack.
That was a bit scary. I was leaning toward the screen looking at little Sylvia up close, on refresh parent came in and cover screen.
I jumped. LOL
The egg looked funny but I think it was grass not a crack
Heading home, catch ya'll later
That was an awesome picture!
Eagle at BWO

my WEATHERBUG just chirped that we are under a Tornado watch til 3:00a.m., hope hubbys' plane makes it in ok
I have a question. If Sylvia turns our to be a him, will that make him Sylvester??
WOW Mits Stay safe.
Truth is we will probably never know what Sylvia is, so it will stay Sylvia.
do we have to watch NBC again tonight????
I just checked on the Kent owl and we have a egg hatched.. I see the lil one....Mom is tending to the baby
I got an answer from Linda. She said we wouldn't have seen anything except the removal of the chicks from the nest. They were taken to a shady area to do the banding. She did say that they filmed it and will post it later on the site. It will be on NBC news at a later date.

Gone. Are you watching NBG, Paula?
Eagle gone at Kent...you could see him flying out of the nest, beyond the big trunks...cool
Babies were just visible as owl parent moved on Barn owl cam 1, but couldn't count. she is now back down on them.
Eagle back at Kent 2
Did you see the fly-in at Kent 1. Big stick in beak.
JUST RETURNED. Kent just had flyin with very large stick.
Need quite a few to check emails & comments. I see the owls are Hooting
DEB It looks like one eagle in nest at NBG; rocking in the wind.
Our cam is stuck at 7:58
Last count from Anne was three baby owls.
Sorry, it's not, thought it was later than 8:05
Hey JO, is that your owl that has hatched babies?
NBG has been in the nest all night. It is the female according to those who study this nest. I hope it is egg time.
Moose is on the move. I had a quick glimpse of the inside of Pooks house. Scarface is eating.
Howdy Candy!
Howdy Candy!
I get so excited watching eagles in Kent and NMG nest, I forget to say hi. HI, Paula, Candy and Jo.
Owl parent is moving again. She is just looking like she is antsy tonight.
Hi PAULA. I sure have missed alot lately. Was so excited to see you all talking about seeing eagles at Kent nest too.
Make that NBG!
I can see a lot of fuzzy under Momma owl.
She just can't seem to get settled/
That's OK Deb, we all do the same thing!
Does anyone know if Owl cam l and 2 are different. They don't seem to have the same parent in the same position on them.
I don't know, Candy. They do look different.
Just saw owl parent off eggs on cam 2 and there were at least 5 eggs visible. I am really getting confused. They must be two different cams as I didn't see any white fuzz anyplace; just eggs.
Candy they are different. I just asked Nilla the same question.
Hey Jill. Thanks for the heads up. I started to think I was losing my mind.
I just lost the NBG cam.
Hi everyone I'm exausted. I feel like I have been working Ob all day. babbies everywhere and its so frustrating not to be able to blog.
Yup mine is gone too
Moosie still there
My cousin kept asking me and I didn't know so I asked Nilla. If you read the home page it sounds as if there is only one nest but it just didn't look right.
I just counted 4 chicks.
Mama owl is checking on her chicks on cam one
Okay talk about losing your mind. I just went away to check a camera, came back. When it came back it showed the page before the split. I saw Jo's comment about Who the heck is Sylvia? My first thought was Jo we explained that to you earlier. Then I realized I was on the old comments. LOL
Hi Megan. I've missed it all between work and being blocked for the weekend. Things are starting to happen quickly.
Moosecam dark and moosie gone
Is that food in theBW nest?
I think that everyone is getting a little dipsy form watching all the cams and action. There is just too much going on at one time. Hard to keep track of it all.
JILL I haven't seen anyone come in with food lately at that nest. Maybe it is from before. Parent seems to be sleeping.
I have also lost NBG nest. It froze and then went white.
OWLS
The 2nd owl cam was just added last week.
BW parent woke up. Now maybe we'll get a look at the new chicklet.
Jo I didn't see any chicks on that one; just eggs when she was off.
I read Nest Update on the BWE page from Lisa concerning Lord Blackwater
I sure hope Lady Blackwater gets
him under her control.
Thanks Deb for posting Lynda White's
email response.
BW parent back to sleep. :(
Those poor lil owlets goodness looks like mom is squishin 1's head into the nest all i see is eyes..
What I am waiting for is the Horned owl at University of Cal Bakersfield. She is such a beauty and easy to view. she is right out on the ledge of the Science Building. Isnt that smart?. What a great place to be.
Thanks Candy for that info. I don't have time right now to watch her.
Candy was it this past weekend you were in Winchester or the weekend upcoming?
Yes Jo thats the way i explained it to Jill the nest box is different inside... No eggs hatched yet in Mrs Owls box but she was pullin straw around her earlier...
I'll be headed up to Winchester this Thursday to visit Josh for his birthday. So close and yet so far to the eagle nest. Anna is is beautiful owl.. How many eggs does she have you know?

How wonderful, Candy! Congratulations!!
Oh Candy
Your going to be a MIL
You'll be a good one!
Has anyone seen an egg in the Heron nest? That is one big bird.
Going back to emails for awhile.....
Ihave been watching the herons too and I have never seen an egg. all she does it sit in the nest unless its hidden in the grass.
Thanks everyone. I am excited for both of them. And yes, now I'll be that dreaded MIL :) They hope sometime in Oct 2008.
I have wordered about Daddy Horned owl too. No one ever seems to feed her unless she gets off in the middle of the night when I'm asleep
Thanks Megan. I just wondered if there was an egg and how big it looked. Heaven help the chick when and if there is one. It will have a hard time fitting into the nest with the parents. lol
Candy I have three DIL and they are wonderful. Yours will be too.
I think I jinxed the Kent nest. Haven't seen an eagle since I started watching tonight, so I'll have to take your word for it. It makes me so happy to think that they will be rebuilding that nest back. Hope they hurray up.
Well, they better get planning Candy. October will be here before you know it!
I am watching Belle in that rain. I wish I could send her some warmth and the flowers that are blooming every where. My neighborhood looks like a nursery.
Apparently they haven't started laying eggs yet at the heron site. They call that area a rookery, where all the herons nest and roost at night.
Thank you Paula, I wondered.
I am going to go and get dinner. Anything I can find. There has got to be something in that pantry. BBL
Oh, hang in there, Belle. Pouring here now, and the wind is really gusting. Sounds like a freight train out there.
Eagle finally at Kent cam 2
Well, I am back. Has anything exciting happened since I have been gone.
Now eagle flew to cam 1, I think. Nice close up of back
The same eagle is both on cam 1 and two. What they need to do is bring some more sticks in when they visit. Time is awasting.
Kent eagle gone
Candy, from what Loraine says, they work on the nest more than we can see. I think as soon as they get Cam 3 up, we will see them more.
Hi Sharon! I finally got on for a bit tonight. Boy you sure don't want to stay off too long as you really miss alot. Things are really happening in the feathery world of birds, pandas, donkeys, and all other animals.
I sure hope so DEB. We had a lot of good viewing at the Kent nest last year.
Do you all remember when Spunky made it through that horrible storm and he was the only one in the nest? That had my heart a-pumping for a long time!
speak of the devil. Mama Horned owl just flew off the nest. three eggs, how do I take a picture?
Good ole Spunky. We get so attached to all these birds, but how can we not. They bring us alot of pleasure and some sorrow. I just love them.
There was Spunky, Mis In between and what was the other one's name? I can't seem to recall the other name. They were some family.
ok, the heavy rain just passed by us here and at the nest, light rain now for the moment.
Back at Kent 2.
We are going to have just as nice a family in our nest this year. After the sadness of last year, this year has to be better.
Eagle back at Kent 2
We haven't gotten the heavy rain yet. It is just west of us. We are under a tornado watch until 3am.
Now eagle went to cam 1. What a beautiful bird.
I hope now that the rain has stopped up there, our parent on thi nest will have a nice night of sleep.
Big Boy!!
Megan, I just keep thinking of you and your beautiful flowers that you had last year. You must get a great bit of satiffaction out of doing this. I just love flowers.
Thanks PAULA; that was it!
Candy - I'm glad you are happy about your STB DIL :)
Eagle in LW for its nightly visit.
More rain on the way,I believe. So far not near as bad as they had predicted. BW might get bad storms later tonight.
Our eagle has the huge tent out now.
Rain forecast for Friday too
Poor thing, at least it is rain and not snow, but it is still miserable.
At least the rain rolls off those beautiful feathers - snow just sorta buried them. Last year almost this same time was the SNOW. Thank you Lord for RAIN!
From the looks ofour eagle's tent there isn't any chance of our 3 eggs getting a drop of water on them.
That has got to be Belle...
Well, you can really tell by the blog when there are eaglets or eggs around. Blows up around here. I love it!
Going to bed now. Good night and sweet eagle dreams, my friends of fine feathers and fur!
Not raining here now. Slight breeze. 61 degrees.
Good Night Sharon our eagle eyed gal
Wow our Belle is making sure those eggs stay safe, and hopefully it will continue to be just rain. No more ice and snow for our nest this year.
I am right behind you SHARON. Just finished watching my UNC TarHeels beat Florida St. Didn't realize it was so late.
May you all have a good nights sleep and wonderful and peaceful dreams. Tomorrow is a new day with new things happening. Good night all.
Good Night Candy!
Okay, folks, catch me up!
Hope all is well, I am lurking once again...
Birdgirl - male was there earlier.
No WV chicks yet - an email will go out for sure on that one too!
I have NBG back up, eagle is still in the nest, wind is still blowing all over, can't see if anything is happening or not.
Hi ya....my electric has been out, just my block, something about a pole fire......reading thru posts and Paula you have an excellent memory.....for the mother of the groom, it is "shut up, show up, and wear beige"...., it worked for me:)
Hi, glad you have your power back. Have you had any storms yet, with your tornado watch?
Thank you Mits!
In my case it was brown (my choice!) :)
Hasn't been too bad Deb. I've seen worse.
Time for me to hit the hay...night all.
watch is still up, just some heavy showers off and on...hubby made it safely from Cinn, Ohio....had to light his way into the house, because no power means you can't get into the garage
Thanks, Deb, for your comment about Norfolk. I just looked as I opened things, noticed a dark mass, but I decided it wasn't an eagle.
After I read your post, I looked again, and it's better lit and the white head is visible... I'm sure it means they are starting a new clutch now. Oooorah!!
Anybody seen any Great Horned Owls around lately?
[:~)]
Jim
good night all, good morning Susanne. too much excitment for one day. I'm bushed.
Haven't seen any around VA, Jim but I do watch 2 nesting Great Horned owls
One in CA and one in Co.
They are both incubating eggs at this time.
Hi Deb
Hi Helen
Hey There Lurker Delphia!! How are ya
You're welcome, Jim. It seems like the camera moved at NBG, I don't know what it is pointed at. I think I will join everyone, I am sitting here yawning.
guess I will head out also, was resting for 2 hours when the lights were out, and, now I'm not tired....
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
Really raining hard here.
Just checked WV weather, and the temps look similar to ours a couple of days ago ... same now, only a little warmer for days.
More rain for our nest on Fri and Sat.
Does that look like Liberty tenting the nest tonight??
[:~)]
Jim
Delphia, to answer one of your questions, I've definitely seen the BW male on BWO a couple of times today, and I "believe" I've seen him on the eggs a couple of times ... and I was only watching this morning.
[:~)]
Jim
Jim, do you see something in the BW nest that might be a rodent? Or is it me?
GOOD NIGHT, EVERYONE/GOOD MORNING TO THE EARLY BIRDERS.
JIM
I see what you mean, Jill, but I think it is the same "leftover" we've been seeing, but from a different perspective.
I saw the female feeding on it this morning, and it's probably been turned a time or two in the process.
Jim
But if you look at the picture of the eaglet that Lisa put up, nothing is there. Sure looks the same, like a little possum or muskrat.
And with no food brought into the nest, wouldn't she have eaten it by now?
WHOO HOO
We are having a thunderstorm
Bolt of lightning & BIG BOOM!
"Anthropomorphizing" is a $10 word for ascribing human motivations and actions to animals (or inanimate objects?).
It's something we all do sometimes when watching these cams, but it can be carried too far ... and I can't see any positive benefit to be gotten from it when it gets out of hand.

Jim
Jill, Lisa might have implied no food was brought in to the nest, but she didn't actually say that.
She doesn't think the male has brought any, but he has taken his turn on the nest while she went hunting. Nobody has said whether she brought food back with her or not.
I do not think the female "finished off" every part of the leftover food.
Jim
Jim we believe he indeed did sit on the eggs for a while today but nobody saw food brought in by anybody. Male or female. I would think after being there for 3 days whatever that little critter is would be reduced to bones and nothing else by now.
I try not to Anthropomorphize and just say "It is what it is" & I wouldn't be the one to fool around with Mother Nature.. I feel I have learned a great deal from the animal behaviors we have witnessed.
But I my motherly instincts interfere some times...
I just want to see an actual feeding in the nest of the eaglet(s) tomorrow and it doesn't matter to me which parent brings home the fish!
I am heading out of here before
the 600 SPLIT comes.........
Good Night Jill & Jim
Pleasant dreams & restful sleep
May the sun shine for the next 2 days
Prayers for all our needs being said
Suzanne - hope the puddles weren't too deep coming down the road. We were in Greencastle last evening - always rains when we go near the place!

Watch out for the 600 SPLIT

I think the lights must be out in Norfolk too, although you can barely see the "hottest" part of the biggest branch.
It's dark, dark, dark there.
