Thursday

We are all watching to see if a nesting season materializes in the nest this year.  In past years we have seen eggs in the next week, with a good deal of presence in the nest during the second half of January.

We suspect that the lack of time spent on the nest could indicate that our pair has another nest, a normal occurrence after using a single nest for this many years.  The cold weather could also be an impact, slowing things down a bit.

Time will tell, and I will keep you posted.

New thread.

Thank you, STEVE--we'll look forward to your report as Belle and Shep settle in for another season of parenting !!! I'll go back to the old thread and sound the alert !!!

Good morning to all ♥

Thank you Steve for the Nest Report - we shall see... Thanks for giving us a heads up and especially thank you for keeping an eye on our Royal Couple.

Morning Kay - I'm just signing in.
Congrats on your newest feather ♥

Happy Happy Birthday to our very own Flower Girl, Megan. You are just as beautiful as your floral boquets.

And now, Good Morning Eagle Buds !!!

LINDA, you are right, I did take the drug that is upsetting the apple cart for SANDI's dear mom. No one ever told me I was being mean and nasty, but maybe they were just too kind to do so. I did have one memorable meltdown the day I moved from the hospital to rehab---the pain got ahead of me. I have no recollection of going off on the first physical therapist who walked in the door, but days later learned why she wanted nothing to do with my workouts ! Once I heard I apologized--I'd wondered why she was the only therapist who'd not worked with me !!! Why did they send her in during the first couple of hours I was getting settled in and at about 5pm after a grueling day ? Anyway that pain reliever got me through weeks and weeks of agonizing pain---guess I was just lucky not to have an adverse reaction to it, not did I become addicted to it. I'm truly blessed !

SANDI and DANA my thoughts and prayers are with you dear girls as you provide the TLC your parents need !

LORI, by now I imagine you are an accomplished shot giver. Makes me wonder how many shots I've been given by first timers ! ☺ Glad you're wearing compression stockings for you'll be on your feet more than off as a nurse.

WOW! I sure hope it's just the cold. It would be so disappointing not to have eggs after all these years!

Grandparent's Day here at school. I will be glad when this week of crazy is over! Grandparent's day is very fun, but many are showing up a half hour early!!! My kids aren't here right now so I don't have them in my classroom yet. Hope they are ready to use some paint!

Mema Jo said...

Happy you saw our eagles this morning, Sandi If the dresser for Little Miss arrives at your house then that means a trip to see Lynnis - right?

Dana that was good advice to Lori as to who has the needle

Linda - I wish there were a 'bird rehab' near you. I lost a little one when he hit my window the other day. I thought he might rouse up but he didn't. Jenny is getting me stickers for the glass sliding doors to prevent this.

Mema Jo said...

Dana I forgot to ask you whether you needed an extra grandmother today - I would have jumped for joy if you did ♥
Your project is a great keeper! Does each child bring their own pic or do you take it for them?

Kay said...

Kind of depressing to think of Belle and Shep having another nest...yes, all we can do is wait and see. They certainly seem to enjoy frequent visits to Sycamore Palace which gives me great hope !

Lolly said...

Good morning! 41 right now and going up. Yea! Also, a good chance of rain next Tuesday. Do hope this happens. We are already getting fire hazard warnings. So, very dry!!

Today grosssserie shopping. Larry and Sandy arrive this evening and Sharon and Dan tomorrow. Going to be fun if I can have patience with my brother. He is a 69 year old with ADHD. He never controls his mouth. He says what he thinks and brags all the time. I love him dearly, he is a good man, and I am happy we are separated by 500 miles. LOL

Just learned last night I am going to be a great great aunt again. This is not good. Talked with Jack's sister in GA last night and she is so unhappy. They have Natalie who is one today. They can not afford another mouth, have been married a year and already marital problems. What a mess! Babies do not solve marital problems.

Got to get busy! Have a great day!

Hate to think of another nest but think it is highly likely. We just have not seen them working on this nest!! Sad!

Sandi said...

Thanks Steve for the new thread and thanks Kay for the call over.

Steve's comments make me think he hasn't been seeing as much of our eagles in the area of the nest. I would be so sad to not have them to watch during the winter and spring - I guess we have no choice but to wait and see what happens. Fingers crossed that the cold weather is delaying egg-laying this winter. The past 2 winters were much milder so maybe ...

Jo, Denny is driving to Brian's & Lynnis's next week to supervise the installation of new doors and windows throughout the whole house. He'll take the dresser whne he goes.

Later - state testing going on here.

As to your comment, well sir, it upsets my apple cart!
I do not like it at all!
I suspect you might be right!

So what do we do now?
Are you going to find the new nest?
Might it be on NCTC property?
Are you going to install a camera there.
Are you going to bring down this nest for efucational purposes... Ground level, size, content???
Is NCTC going to bring down the diseased tree?
Do the eagles abandon diseased trees?

Thank you. If you read this please answer.

Hoda said...

Thank you KAY. Congratulations on your feather

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLOWER GIRL!

STEVE one more thing:

If there are no eagles to watch are you going to maintain the blog?

Hoda said...

Thank you JO for telling the other sites.

They have not been bringing too much here.

My head hurts!
A sure sign I am upset!!!

OK guys after reading the comment I started to think back That sound so familiar as deja vu well as I thought I went a lookin and found this on JAN 6 so it wasn't dejavu but was earlier in Jan

""""Sunday, January 06, 2013
Sunday
I have to admit--back in November, we were very worried that the birds may have moved on to another nest. It is normal that a nest is abandoned after six or seven years. We had heard from local folks that there were potentially two other nests within a few minutes flying time of our tree, and the fact that the birds were not hanging around very much had us concerned.

Based on the past few weeks though, things seem pretty much going the same as in the past. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it is a smooth start to the nesting season.

♫♫ HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEGAN ♫♫

Wishing you much happiness and many blessings in this new year of your life!!

JO - I did look for a bird rehab, but nothing close enough!! They are eating, drinking, perching on sticks I put in the box, pooping and fluttering all around!! For now they seem happy!

LOLLY - Funny comments about your brother! I have one that is much the same. I love him dearly, but he totally exhausts me with his constant talking.......My son tries to "mute" him with the remote control.....and it never works!! Haha

paula eagleholic said...

Hoda, they would not remove the nest! Even if they did have another nest, they would probably rotate between the two.

And, things remain to be seen! They have been at the nest just about every day...I take that as a good sign.

paula eagleholic said...

Oh, another FYI for everyone. The tree is not actually on NCTC property...I believe it is right on the edge of the guard house property.

JudyEddy said...

I also agree with PAULA they have been to the nest at least twice a day and bringing in nesting materials and working on the nest Maybe they are just running late this season
Its up to 49 now that is the hi for the day I have hibernated today LOL

stronghunter said...

Dryer vents do that in cold weather, Judy. People in Florida would certainly not be used to such a thing.

Very nice that your neighbors would be looking out for you.

I really hope it warms up quickly. We need to have a warm Florida.

Court in Italy reinstates guilty verdict for Amanda Knox!!

stronghunter said...

I heard that too, Hoda. I cannot imagine that she would be sent back there. It is a clear case of double jeopardy.

stronghunter said...

At least, that is my opinion. For what it is worth.

Lori O. said...

Shirley, you are 100% correct! It is absolutely double jeopardy, at least under US law.

MEGAN, I hope you're having the happiest of birthdays! Must be nice to still be in your 20's!

So bummed to see Steve's post. I refuse to do anything other than think positively. Next year they can go to another nest, but this year they must stay here! I sound like Queen LynneDUH!

I only got to give two shots today and both were insulin, so nothing major, but it was a nice day. Tomorrow is our last day at the hospital for this round. I'll be back there sometime in March for Pediatrics.

Kay, so glad have good things to report about your previous pain meds. :)

Dana, how are your parents doing?

Back to work on getting the reports organized.

JudyEddy said...

did anyone hear that a clunk

Sandi said...

Hi all - home from school.

Have talked to Mom. She said that last night she didn't take any oxycodone. Although she had some pain, it was no worse than the night before when she DID take the oxy. She also hasn't taken any pain meds today. I suggested that, if she had pain tonight, she try the Tramadol, which is what her internist prescribed before she ended up in the ER. So, I think today's news is encouraging.

Mom said Lisa brought her ice cream and said it tasted great! I said, "Then eat the whole half gallon! There aren't too many folks who can afford to eat all the ice cream they want and not have to worry about their weight!" Of course, she would probably go into a sugar coma!! She has eaten a little more today which is also encouraging. Fingers crossed that she now stays headed in the right direction.

So much for the good news. The bad news is we have frozen pipes. We are much more susceptible to that b/c our house is up on pilings rather than being built on a foundation on the ground. And this morning the air temps were below zero! So for now, we have no cold water in the kitchen and the bathtub drain in the downstairs bathroom is frozen. The plumber is on his way.

The dresser arrived for Little Miss - it is more beautiful in person than it looked in the photos! I think Lynnis will love it!

It's up to 30 degrees right now and tomorrow and Saturday are supposed to go into the 40s, Sunday it could hit 50! Om my, may have to pull out the bathing suit!

Lolly, good luck with the brother who doesn't stop talking - will he be staying in the house with you and Jack or is he the one with the RV? And Linda, LOL about trying to mute your brother with the TV remote!! If only that would work - I have a handful of 8th graders that could use a mute button!!

Time to get some schoolwork done - hoping our eagles show up this evening.

SANDI - Happy for your mom that she can intelligently either take a med or decide she doesn't need it. Perhaps her pain med could be taken am and pm but in a lower dosage just to insure that the pain won't be really bad. Bring on the ice cream but know
what you mean about the sugar.
I have a drug that if my sugar reading is 150 or over I have to take 1/2 tab of a glimepiride 1mg and then must eat. Works for me.

That isn't a rarity--I remember the eagles at the Virginia gardens nest--name eluding me in my excitement--who often scared off visiting Juvies.

Sandi said...

I got one pic of the juvie - I agree that s/he looked pretty young. Wonder if it was a youngin' from this nest or just a juvie passing by and/or looking for a nest in the area?

I am sitting here shaking my head what to think NOW

Sandi said...

I turned the sound all the way up on my laptop thinking for sure we would hear eagle calls and see one or both of our eagles land and chase away the juvie.

Kay said...

Juvies don't take over nests--no need for one except for reproducing, but visiting one's original home again, Sweet ! Even if Belle and Shep are tending more than one nest they won't put up with this Juvie for long. I believe the Virginia eagles had 3 nests on the grounds of the botanical gardens and it was always a bit of a wait to see which of them they'd use each year.

Sandi said...

Well, it appears the evening's drama is over, leaving us with even more questions. OH YES!!!!!!

I agree with DANA this Juvie did not look like ours from last year. Waaaay too young looking!

Amanda Knox might be confined to the USA unless this verdict is overturned. If she travels to Europe with Italy requesting extradition from other European countries, I am afraid US law will not be of help.
JUDIE could set me straight on this. JUDIE?

Going to yoga this evening.
Then will volunteer with an Eco Society Fund Raiser from 8:00-10:00!!!
I can not believe the location though!!!
We have a very fancy hotel called the Hume.
In the Hume they have a Spirit Bar!
Yes Eco Society event is in the BAR!!!
Tonight I am going to a bar!!!
Laughing so hard!!!
The Kootenay Spirit Festival will also hold an event there in September!!! I might as well go see what it is about.

Sandi said...

Hoda, it sounds appropriate to me that a "spirit" festival event would be held in a bar! ;)

Time for dinner - quite the evening everyone! Happy to be here to spend it with you! I came for the eagles but stayed for the friendships I made!

Mema Jo said...

The juvie could definitely be one of
Belle's babies - Juvie was dark brown and spotted - white tail feathers but only blotches on the head. Feet were good looking talons♥
Probably 2-3 years old... I guess use
the name sub-adult and not a juvie.

Hope Paula sees the pics and gives an opinion

Signing off for a while - too much
EGGcitement..... ♥

Lolly said...

Hmmmm....guess I am going to have to try the remote control on Larry. LOL

Lori O. said...

How cool if it was one of our former eaglets! I thought, could it be Hidey, love of my eagle life as he was the first eaglet I watched in the nest, then I realized Hidey would look like an adult - Hidey will be 5 this year!

It's been a wonderful five years with all of you!

stronghunter said...

Hidey was my first eagle, too, Lori. Maybe Hidey has a nest of his/her own now.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

My first year we had Big Boy, Ms. In Between and Spunky.

Sandi said...

One thing to keep in mind regarding the size of this juvie versus the size of our juvies when they flew the coop last June ... the camera is in a different position this year than it was last year. If it's currently mounted a little higher above the nest than it was (maybe since they couldn't tilt the cam any more to give us a better view of the whole nest, they decided to mount it higher up??), that would make any eagle in the nest seem to be smaller. I haven't compared what Belle and Shep look like in photos this year to photos of them taken last year - has anyone?

OK, time for some TV so I'll say goodnight now. Thanks everyone for your continued prayers for my mom! See you in the AM!

JudyEddy said...

Sub Adult visit nest this evening Video by Deb Stecyk

JudyEddy said...

SANDI I put a pic on the EM face book page to compare

JudyEddy said...

I think I need to go to the EM album and get a still to compare with also from last year this time

Sandi said...

One last question and then I really AM signing off for the night. Has anyone asked Steve if the cam is currently zoomed out as far as it will go? Wasn't it was zoomed out, and then in when Belle was incubating, and then back out again when the eaglets started moving around the nest? If it could be zoomed out, we would be able to see more of the nest, even if we can't be as up close and personal with the eagles.

OK, over and out!!

Olivia had a fantastic skating practice tonight with her coach. She has to fine tune that ending…but the routine is coming along nicely.
It got above freezing today; but we had a breeze so it still felt pretty chilly.
Hope everyone has a great night. Sleep well friends!

Sounds good for Livvie, Janet...
Best wishes on her fine-tuning everything

Let's all just hope that Belle and Shep are as addicted to the Sycamore Palace, as WE are....

Margy, yes, my neighbor's have crocus sprouting through the snow!

stronghunter said...

I see the tips of spring bulbs, but they aren't doing much growing in all of this cold weather.

stronghunter said...

I am afraid that I'll not sleep well tonight. Had trouble last night and ended up sleeping midday.

stronghunter said...

Hope you are soon asleep and ready to go bright and early, Margy.

Yes, Kathryn is still working at a body shop. She's an estimator. They have had some busy days recently.

stronghunter said...

I think the 9ii people must have been busy, too. This weather creates emergencies. I hate to think what it must have been like at the 911 centers in Atlanta and the other places that got hit with so much snow.

911, that is

Well, finally, we have internet access again. Very inconvenient. Nothing all day.

Will have to try to skim through the day's activities. Just hoping that everyone is doing okay and Dana's mom and Sandi's mom are continuing to improve.

Sandperson is about to depart. Night light is on. Restful sleep for all.

I read on CNN that the Snowy Owl seen in DC was hit by a bus. Taken to the Smithsonian Zoo Hospital, injured but expected to make it.

I would say the sub adult was entering its 3rd year.

Was wondering why the blog blew up :-)

stronghunter said...

Glad you got back on the Internet, Judie.

We had interesting stuff happening at the nest today. A visitor.

Angie and Carl are both sick now Angie is gonna go get the swab to see if its the flu because she is suppose to have the tea party for Jordyn Sat that was delayed from last week
We had planned on going to Red Lobster tomorrow so it looks like its just Jordyn and I she loves that place and Angie just called and asked if I minded taking her without her Carl is suppose to go to a bachelor party and would have been just the three of us
So funny Jordyn asked Carl Daddy who is gonna cook dinner if you go to the party LOL

I just may call Tommy to see if he wants to go with Jordyn and I since he is the one that gave the me gift cards

Posted my screen grabs from the sub adult visit this evening.

such goings ons today!

evening all!

I like to think the baby eable was one of ours! They do lurk around now and then!

Could look smaller, as mentioned, by the camera angle and zoom. Also remember that the juvies LOOK bigger than the adults at fledge time as the have many more feathers.

I, too, hope our birds raise a family in THIS nest, but we would be VERY blessed if they do after all these years.

hurry up and wait hurry up and wait. GGGRRRRR!

It certainly could be the extreme cold. Eagles know best!

Good late evening to all ♥
Watched 3 one hr TV show in a row..
I love Ms Fisher - lady detective.

Warming up somewhat tomorrow - It will probably last until Sunday..but
I'll take high 40°'s for a few days.

I think we probably haven't seen the last of our sub-adult. Better now then when the eggs are incubating. I
am just very thankful it wasn't a Great Horned Owl taking over our nest.

have a good night!

Hi, Everyone,
My, it's been an eventful day at the nest! Sure am glad that our pair has shown up there tonight.
Guess time alone will tell whether they nest in the Sycamore Palace this year. I'm wondering, too, whether the extreme weather has slowed things down a bit.

Before I forget,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEGAN!!! Hope your day has been spectacular!

I apologize for not being here lately. Ken developed a relapse of the intestinal flu, so it's been busy here. He's OK again now, and back to work.

Have read back just a bit.

Janet, I'm so glad that your friend Chris found out that her condition is manageable. Thank God! Still praying for her.

Prayers, too, for Sandi & Dana's Moms, and for Dana's Dad, too.

Judy, glad that Jordyn is doing better. Hope everyone else improves quickly. Flu, scram!

Welcome back, Linda & carolinabeachmom! Good to see you both!

Well, I must pay some bills online, so have to say goodnight.
I've set both security systems to come on automatically, and the porch light is on. SED, everyone.
God bless, and goodnight. I love all of you! God bless, and goodnight. I ♥ us!!!

Goodorming my eagle friends on this very last day of January. Nest is MT of ALL eagles.

Lolly, I LOVE the photos you put on FB - don't know how you are going to choose which one to have hanging on the wall.

No students today - teacher inservice. Morning meeting with all special ed. teachers, then afternoon to work on grades. This school year is officially half over and I can say that I have 2 1/2 years til retirement instead of 3!

Make it a great day!

Good morning. Lots of opinions on the juvie. Could be camera angle, could be another juvie in the area, could be one of Belle's. We will never know! Nature at it's best and our little window into their world doesn't answer our questions.
I sure do wish we could zoom that camera lens out. Maybe we will get an answer!

We have an early dismissal today and the end of Catholic Schools Week. Teacher appreciation day. We get a nice lunch at the end of the day today. Mass at 10:30. The day will be over fast.

I may not be retiring in 2.5 years, but I think I will be moving to Florida by then. We are really talking about it and I think it will happen. I will still work, no retirement for us, but I gotta get out of this cold!!

Poor Annemarie, made distinguished honors and they left her name off the list so at the Honors Assembly yesterday she wasn't recognized! My poor girl. I feel bad for her. I already emailed the principal and got a response. I'm sure they will take care of it today.

Well...look at the time. Geesh...better get going.

Have a great day my eagle friends.

Good Red Friday, All!!

Lots of posts and activity last evening at the nest. Thanks for the pics and link to the video!!

SANDI - Good News on your Mom. How wonderful to eat as much ice cream as you want and not have a weight worry!! Hope she continues in the upward direction!

JANET - Congrats to Livvy doing so well with her skating program. It much be such a joy to watch her progress!

To have INTERNET or to NOT have INTERNET......sometimes I wonder which is the blessing??

Looks like everyone is warming up a bit this weekend, and it is a welcomed change from the bitter cold! Seems like every time we get snow in the forcast the system comes from the south and eventually turns to a mix or rain!! Strange weather we are having this year.

Hoping we continue to see our Royal Pair at the nest......this year!!

Good morning everyone. Not on so much anymore, but keeping track of our nest. I think things look pretty well on track and good. MeMa Jo says good morning. Some on fb are saying they are having trouble getting here this morning, so I thought I would try a post and a hello. I have snow and cold where I live. its a great winter for eagles though.

Good Red Friday Morning to All ♥

I felt like an intruder trying to get into the blog. Happy to be here finally before the big 200 Split.

Good RED FRIDAY Morning Eagle Buds !!!

The juvie's origin will remain a mystery, but I think the scruffy look might be more due to weathering a severe winter than due to age ! It created quite a flap and it was so much fun to be in or it's appearance !

DANA, so distressing to learn that Annemarie wasn't properly recognized for her achievements ! Hope the principal takes care of the slight in a BIG way !

ANDY, sorry to hear your Kubby has been hit so hard by the flu.

JUDYE, I wondered if Angie and Carl would catch that bug from Jordyn. Very hard to confine it to one person in a household. Hope you'll not come down with it, too !

GLO, good to see you ! Thanks for the message relay !
