If the good Lord Blackwater doesn't soon make an appearance with a fish or a bird in his talons - I am getting out the cane & hobbling on down to the refuge to find him! This situation is really making me nervous!
The bald eagle was removed from the endangered list last year in the lower 48 states (it was never endangered in Alaska). It is now fully off the federal endangered list but some states might still list it as endangered at the state level.
Howdy Folks.. checking BW looks like the other egg maybe hatching also? Anyone else see that? Waitin on the rain to fall suppose to very hard at times with flood warnings... Great news on our live feed and hoping its turned on before the hatching starts !!!
Haven't read all the comments yet, but I see you've found Lisa's link to the banding article. One thing I wanted to tell you:
Last year I found that even though Linda White didn't update the informational page very often, she did respond to the email contact frequently. You should elect one early birder to collect all your questions and combine them into an email to her.
LOL Nilla - at least you said we will have FLOOD warnings - Jill scared me when she said we will have FLOOK warnings! I was laughing about it but I don't think Jill saw what she typed. I loved it - It cracked me up!
We hope the other egg has started to crack! More concerned with Dad not bringing any food. OK I hope he is ok!
WHOA----Maybe there is some doubt in his mind about the paternity of this EAGLET!!!----(when they don't want to pay child support in our courts)----they all say that)
Lol after spending the afternoon with Jill i know just how flooky she is..lol Thank God its not cold enough to snow or with this rain we would have 3 feet.... Yseterday Jill went out side to get phone service im watching Belle and she gets up .. I ran over n banged on window Jill comes running back in and Belle turns her back side to the video... ord knows i didnt relize the talking was going to be on the video.. I sounded like a country hick...lol
How do we know Dad is on BWO and not Mom. With 30 secs between refresh isn't it posible we missed a switch whether or not there is actually a food delivery on the nest. I don't need anything else to worry aobut :).
At least there are 2 eagles in view so I would guess both parents are OK. A fish at the nest being fed to Sylvia ( who in the world gave her that name LOL) anyway it would be nice to KNOW we saw eaglet getting fed. I will worry aobut that OK
this url is to track the eaglet Birdie when she fledges the nest soon in Florida: To track Birdie when she leaves the nest, check http://www.instwildlifesciences.org/tesoro.html.
Thanks Jo i remember keeping track of the Osprey i think it was flying to South America...last year and it was on tv also...Well im going for anice Panda nap... Bellies kind of grumbley and not feeling so good... BBL
( : Hi Nilla gal Yep got the link.. have it in favorities....
Still which they would mark our parents and band our eaglets. It would give them and us more knowledge. If would also let us know if anything happened to one of them.
Good morning to all :-) I just got some great shots of the new eaglet at BWE! He/she is soooo cute! What a great feeling to be part of that miracle!
Our eagles here at NCTC have been quiet so far when I have been viewing. Other eagles are quiet, too.
Been watching PH a lot and noticed that the eagle usually sits with mouth opened a lot. I was reading up on those nests on the Channel Islands and found out that because the nest is not protected from the sun and we have had some pretty warm days, that eagles will pant in order to cool themselves when having to be directly in the sun. Now that was an interesting fact!
Yes, Sharon, I've been singing that song in my head ever since you mentioned Sylvia this morning. Sylvia's mother says Sylvia's daddy better get some fish pronto.
Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's busy" "Too busy to come to the phone" Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's tryin'" "To start a new life of her own" Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's happy" "So why don't you leave her alone?" CHORUS And the operator says "40 cents more for the next 3 minutes" Ple-ease Mrs. Avery, I just gotta talk to her I'll only keep her a while Please Mrs. Avery, I just wanna tell 'er goodbye Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's packin'" "She's gonna be leavin' today" Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's marryin' " "A fella down Galveston way" Sylvia's mother says "Please don't say nothin'" "To make her start cryin' and stay" CHORUS Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's hurryin' " "She's catchin' the nine o'clock train" Sylvia's mother says "Take your umbrella" "cause Sylvie, it's startin' to rain" And Sylvia's mother says "thank you for callin'" "And, sir, won't you call back again?" CHORUS Tell her goodbye FADE Please Tell her goodbye
#10 at PH was doing a lot of what looked like digging with his beak. He also looked like he was eating something when his head would come up as he was chewing. Then he would roll the eggs and I could catch just a glimpse of them.

I've got to go, but I wanted to note, I don't necessarily agree with the interpretation of the different behavior at BW between last year and this, but I do think something fundamental has changed... It could just as well be a different Mom as a different Dad.
I read on one of these sites that the female controls when and how much the male can attend the eggs and/or the young. And this year they have been switching a lot more than last year, which allows the female the opportunity to fish and hunt for herself.
It is definitely different behavior, but since the female controls, I think it's probably her choosing to get her own meals most of the time...could even mean it is a different female from last year.

Can see poor hungry Little Sylvia again!
And now you can't.
think Mom was snacking on some of the lousy leftovers......think Dad needs some smacking with a wet noodle
THANKS---PAULA---I was so sure-----but everyone likes to argue "NOT SO"!!
Jill it is amazing how there are about 4 different forcasts out there
Okay, somebody needs to go fling an opossum up in that daggone nest so that baby can eat.
haha...yeah, I should have had our cam technician leave a fish under the tree.
Boy, this father is utterly useless.
Little Sylvia, that is!
Can we fly over the nest with a chopper and drop a fish??
Lisa, maybe you all could install a small fish pond right near the tree so she wouldn't have to leave Little Sylvia for long.
Okay, who is going to come on and bust our chops for interfering with Mother Nature? :)
I have an old kiddie pool we could use..
roflmbo......Sharon
well I tell you one thing, if I were Lady B, that guy would not get near me next year!
he should be sued for chick support
Whole family at CC1
MITS - ROFLMAO!!
We could have him put on the deadbeat dad list..
The stupid father has a big freaking river right near his home nest. And woods full of mammals.
Makes you wonder what he's feeding himself.
she is really patient...
How long can the female go before she really needs food? those leftovers don't look so yummy.
If the good Lord Blackwater doesn't soon make an appearance with a fish or a bird in his talons - I am getting out the cane &
hobbling on down to the refuge to find him!
This situation is really making me nervous!
I will drive you, JO.I think even I could catch a fish there. Like Lisa said, there's water everywhere. Hope the male is ok.
Me too, Mema Jo!

2nd egg looks cracked to me.
The bald eagle was removed from the endangered list last year in the lower 48 states (it was never endangered in Alaska). It is now fully off the federal endangered list but some states might still list it as endangered at the state level.
I see Little Sylvia BUT where is the
other egg? Is she rolling it?
I guess you saw the other egg as I was typing my comment. Did you get a pic of it Paula?
Back at ya, PAula.
Mema Jo, I did not see the other egg. Just saw Sylvia.
Howdy Folks.. checking BW looks like the other egg maybe hatching also? Anyone else see that? Waitin on the rain to fall suppose to very hard at times with flood warnings... Great news on our live feed and hoping its turned on before the hatching starts !!!
There was definatly a crack in that egg and mom was fooling with it... Rain is starting now here..
Good morning, everyone...

HELEN---That about the same forecast we have here too!!----
BW BABY IS ALONE
I am still recovering from word verification syndrome. LOL
That could be the Lord on the BWO platform... Not sure........
Daddy Blackwater is on the Osprey nest with a stick. Isn't he a few weeks late for nest building?
If my cousin finds out they aren't feeding Sylvia enough she will drive over and adopt her. And she is much closer than us.
Backatcha Megan - mailman was eating lunch, but finally showed up!
How do we know Dad is on BWO and not Mom. With 30 secs between refresh isn't it posible we missed a switch whether or not there is actually a food delivery on the nest. I don't need anything else to worry aobut :).

What do you think are the white markings down the right side of the eagle on the BWO platform
THANKS LISA for your thoughts on the EAGLE & the endangered species list!!-----That would answer my question---on or off list in different areas!!
Glo, I knew you would be on here worrying about the feeding! Hmmm, Little Sylvia, I wonder who?
BWO platform empty....... Where did the eagle go........ !!!
this url is to track the eaglet Birdie when she fledges the nest soon in Florida: To track Birdie when she leaves the nest, check http://www.instwildlifesciences.org/tesoro.html.
That should be interesting
Well this guy is certainly in a bad way with us...we are "family court"!!!
Lisa you got a pole you can send someone out with??? Then just lay the fish near the tree. Eagle eyed Mom will get it for her and baby.
Yes where did the name Sylvia come from?
10 minutes flying time from here to nest We are getting rain...
Whether it is dad or mom Tesoro eats well.
Nilla - remember that the site right now is still under construction..
I hope it will be up/running when she fledges.......
Well, when she looked up, she just looked like a Sylvia to me!
Well, Lisa has a live feed pic and she hadn't seen him come in yet earlier, so i was going by that.
Would you all have voted to name
the new BW chick
Gwendolyn
lol
Sylvia's uncovered!!

BWE egg must have had grass on it - no cracks visible right now.
BW Chick is alone again.......

Reckon she has gone to get food?
Awww, poor little guy couldn't hold that wobbly head up any longer
That was suppose to be "wish"....
of course you all knew that.
Jo where did you get that name??
Eagles at VA - watch out for whoopee.
Well atleast the NBG pair seem to be staying together....participating in the eagle vows and all....could be a 2nd clutch.
Two eagles at BW!!
Both parents at BWE
YEAH, FINALLY SHOWED UP! AND GONE AGAIN AND I DO NOT SEE ANY FOOD. JUST STRAW!
Well Well my cam at BWE showed 2 eagles in nest for awhile.....I still don't see food. Was there an exchange/switch?
Parent gone. Sort of looks like Dad on the nest and Mom had stopped in
I was thinking they changed places, not sure. Nest sure got messed up there.Looks like eagle is reaching in straw to get to the old leftovers.
Sylvia's showing at BWE
I was thinking Beulah or Myrtha or Hortense. LOL
Looks like it's leftovers still at BWE.
I think parent at BW is tearing food
Tenting at the sycamore tree!
"Hrothgar" is lovely old Scandinavian name for a lady.
[:~)]
Jim
Hrothgar??? Is that a name or a word verification??
Does anybody remember the song "Sylvia's Mother" by Dr. Hook?
Never heard of it, Sharon
ah, no, Sharon, I do know Capt. Hook:)
I think it's the name of the lady monster in "Beowulf."
I always remembered it owing to its unquestioned beauty to the ear.
[:~)]
Jim
I remember it Sharon. Love it.
Raining lightly here now.
Good morning to all :-) I just got some great shots of the new eaglet at BWE! He/she is soooo cute! What a great feeling to be part of that miracle!

Big time tenting at the sycamore tree
Hi eagle & eaglet lovers! I just quickly read last night and today's comments. Seems like I missed something - how did the eaglet get the name Sylvia?
That's neat, isn't it Karen. They will also open their wings to regulate their temp also.
BW eaglet looks like a little peeper to me at this point... :)
Yes, Sharon, I've been singing that song in my head ever since you mentioned Sylvia this morning. Sylvia's mother says Sylvia's daddy better get some fish pronto.
Sharon thought the eaglet looked like a Sylvia.
I remember Dr Hook and the Medicine Show.. Check out your email Sharon Jill I'll send it to you to.....
Sharon calls it Sylvia
Hey SHaron, remember 'Cover of the Rolling Stone'??
Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's busy"
"Too busy to come to the phone"
Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's tryin'"
"To start a new life of her own"
Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's happy"
"So why don't you leave her alone?"
CHORUS
And the operator says "40 cents more for the next 3 minutes"
Ple-ease Mrs. Avery, I just gotta talk to her
I'll only keep her a while
Please Mrs. Avery, I just wanna tell 'er goodbye
Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's packin'"
"She's gonna be leavin' today"
Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's marryin' "
"A fella down Galveston way"
Sylvia's mother says "Please don't say nothin'"
"To make her start cryin' and stay"
CHORUS
Sylvia's mother says "Sylvia's hurryin' "
"She's catchin' the nine o'clock train"
Sylvia's mother says "Take your umbrella"
"cause Sylvie, it's startin' to rain"
And Sylvia's mother says "thank you for callin'"
"And, sir, won't you call back again?"
CHORUS
Tell her goodbye
FADE
Please
Tell her goodbye
looks like Dad at BW, Mom is bigger and her dark tail feathers cross over like fingers..
Thanks Jo And Dana
Yes I remember that one too Megan. Have the whole cd in the car.
Bout time he did something. Too lazy to hunt so I guess he will sit on the egg til she gets food. LOL.
Where is Horton when we need him? LOL
Tai is being tickled by one of the keepers and he is loving it
"Sylvia" - from the Latin for woods or forest. Good name - close to nature.
that was funny, she gave him a toy, but he wants more tickling
Well, I am glad to see that I am not the only Dr. Hook fan on here. They put out some really good ones and some really rank ones!
And I think that is Lord (or Lard) BW on the nest now too.
Don't do that Jim. Confuses me. LOL
#10 at PH was doing a lot of what looked like digging with his beak. He also looked like he was eating something when his head would come up as he was chewing. Then he would roll the eggs and I could catch just a glimpse of them.
I agree with Mits, that's why I thought they switched places at BW also. females wings do sort of cross over tail feathers.
Raining pretty hard here now.
Sent the screen shots I took of the new eaglet at BWE. Lisa emailed back that she will be updating the gallery in a few days. Maybe you will get to see my pics if they make it on the gallery :-) Hope so! They will be under KarenInSoCali there.
Great, Karen, we'll be looking for them. Gotten pretty windy here, not raining to hard.
Sorry about the deletions, but I got a funky message from the browser (I think) when I tried to refresh. Then it repeated an earlier posting, which I deleted...twice????
[:~)]
Jim
turning eggs our nest
Thanks Dana.
Karen - Lisa does a great job in posting all the pics she receives in the gallery. I know we'll get to see them soon.
bbiaw
I just noticed that the BWE has a
stick lying on her back. Anyone know who put it there? Like maybe the
Wind?????
Eaglet showing
BWE up - I can spot the egg
But can't spot the chick down in
the egg cup..... Poor vision - remember that I get new lenses in
a couple of weeks. Help me out here-
where is the chick?
eagle off the egg and chick on BWE
got that little head popped up among the grass
I've got to go, but I wanted to note, I don't necessarily agree with the interpretation of the different behavior at BW between last year and this, but I do think something fundamental has changed... It could just as well be a different Mom as a different Dad.
I read on one of these sites that the female controls when and how much the male can attend the eggs and/or the young. And this year they have been switching a lot more than last year, which allows the female the opportunity to fish and hunt for herself.

Jim
Baby and egg are covered with grass!
Looks like no body is at BWE now
But I can see Sylvia.......
Was looking upwards...now it's not. Such a cute little eyes and beak
looks like Mom is back
mom feed chick
Parent back at BWE but I still have
not seen a feeding......
sorry did not get a pic of it, been watching the orangutans at the NZ, they are too funny
Jo, you've got to get out your magnifying glass. I always have one by my computer, it really helps to spot eggs and chicks in the nests.
Megan - good point! I will steal Ed's off his desk! lol
Did you know that you have a magnifying glass on the computer under accessibility?
uh...no, and where do I access accessibility?
Just where would I find the
accessibility?
LOL, Jo-great minds do think alike:)
Go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, and at the very top is ACCESSIBILITY!
I am going to Greencastle tonight to eat Pizza with family... Suzanne left early today & I forgot to mention it to her about coming on over. :(
WOW Pretty large!
I thought I could save it up in my menu bar or somewhere that I could access it quickly......
Did you think about that also,
Megan?
It is under accessories - my god that thing would drive me crazy!
OK, I found it, but it makes me seasick..
Boy that thing messed up all my windows!
Sharon - do you really use it much?
Going to get ready to get out of here around 4:30.... I'll pop back in before I leave.......
I feel like pizza:)
eagle in nest at NBG
Good Mits! Now you know what you are
having for dinner!
Order in or Eat out ?
No moose in view!
Mema Jo, I never use it! :) I just knew it was there.
EAGLE AT KENT #2
Eaglet in view at BWE
Where is 2nd egg at BWE???
They've really tucked a lot of straw around eaglet and egg.
eagle gone at KENT
EAGLE sitting down in nest at NBG
LOl - looks like Dad in VA wants an egg....
I swear the male at NBG sits in the nest more than the female lately.
Thanks covered by fluff whew
That little eaglet at BW sure has big beautiful eyes.
Yea, what a cutie!
Those eyes just drew you right in ( :
BBL this evening............
