Hi All! We got home about 8:30 I had a few things to load into the trailer and it has taken forever to read the blog.
Have to tell you about Joseph basketball game. This was his best game! He hot 4 of the seven baskets they got. They lost but he played so well!!! We were so proud. This was his first year to play and it has not been a good team, not much coaching. But Jospeh really did great. The other coach put two boys on him.
Wanda, so glad Karla was okay. Probably fell off a truck.
We are leaving in the morning..back Sunday. Taking the lap top, but do not know if we will be able to get on. Hope so!
Watched American Idol and Without a trace...fell asleep on the couch. Hope I can go back to sleep now. Read all the comments about the ironing board and ROFLMBO! I must copy them for Karla. She is home and A-OK.
We had a great visit with GeeGee. She was feeling good and ate all that I fixed for her. She even did a little dance. See for yourself on my JUST FOR FUN;)
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE... Haven't seen any chicklets yet, this morning. Too cold to uncover them. Yes, Dana, GeeGee had some moves going for her. It was so good to see her feeling that well.

GOOD -- GOOD MORNIN' MARGY!!---Haven't seen you for a while---but have seen signs of your GOOD WORK!!----If there were more caring folks like you around--OH!-WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD!!----
Morning all. Off today, Margy? That's good...what are your plans? LOLLY...have a fun and safe trip!!! How long will you be gone? Sure hope you can get a wifi connection to check in...don't want you to miss our hatchings!!! Sharon, what time are you leaving today? And what time is your apptmt.tomorrow?
Off today and Thursday, maybe, but work called me at 5 am, but I didn't have to go in...yet...people are going into another round of illness in there... :(
Hedgie I cooked up my sausage the other night, then drowned it in Libby's Sausage Gravey! It was fantastic! (PS Let's not tell RED ... Just kidding Red ☺ )
Home health will be here today. Maybe they won't be able to fit anymore sponge into the wound. If not, then I will just be packing it from here on and no luggage to carry around. More will be revealed.
Sure sounds like you are well on the way to real healing this time, Sharon! Hope you do get to discontinue your hoover! Ditto, Wanda..GeeGee looks grand! Hope you don't get called in, Margy. Glad you enjoyed your sausage gravy...Libby's has good flavor, but a bit skimpy on the sausage, so GOOD idea to supplement....did you do bisquits or pancakes?
Never Fails ! Opened up the IWS Sites, and got lost in the Freeze...wanted to check West End but by the time I could get back to anything missed egg roll there and OUR nest.

Wednesday, March 4, 2009 Good Wednesday Morning from the BigRigTravels Broadcast Truck!
TK woke me up because I never turned the heat on lastnight, and it got chilly. LOL I had the covers wrapped pretty tightly around me, and I guess she could not nose her way in. She got under, turned around a few times, then scooted close to me. Then the purrs and motors started. LOL Spoiled TK.
Ok, looks like it will be a nice easy, long run today. Goal today is 600 miles. No pick ups or deliveries today, just straight driving. Decent weather it looks like.

Margy, putting together a receipe book from all of our favorites on here, would be a good MONEY MAKER for our NCTC EAGLE CAM FUND! Lets think seriously about it!
Hey Margy and Mits...this is aqn excellent idea! We could get more info from Ceil about how her son did the photo book...and do the same thing w/ recipes!! Hey, hey, Paula....what do you think???
Paula, our money is good! LOL. Just probably not enough of it to offset cost, huh? Maybe NCTC or F&W would do the printing....sure they have the capability.
Wow- just when I though I'd heard it all, Hedgie- A WV state lawmaker proposed a bill Tuesday to ban sales of the iconic Mattel doll and others like her. it is wrong number day here at the homestead, only class I have gotten have been wrongs numbers, one guy even question my number, said I have had it for 25 years, and no Gloria is not here
Mits, I knew he was on I-10 last night. I used to have a job that took me to Tallahasse a lot and I have eaten at the truck stop where he took the sunset photo.
Hi Gang, checking in while sign paint is drying. Got tired of watching it!☺ For Surrat Tavern. Girls just made a new one & the wind blew it down & it split in 1/2! I knew about this, so brought my hair dryer!!Want it up Fri. for a photo shoot. Re: Birds at Park--some of the angles are not great--one window had screen at bottom so had try get on tiptoes & try to get pic from top window close to the bldg. We did have an unusually big variety yesterday. I didn't get everything I saw---the usuals now are chickadees, titmice, white throated sparrows, house finches, goldfinches, nuthatches, robins, woodpeckers, etc.Did see a flicker land under feeder, but truck scared him away.Closest I've ever seen one--wanted his pic!! Gotta eat lunch & check paint!
Loretta, I can't believe the variety you are lucky enough to see on a daily basis! Loverly shots! What a difference a nice background makes....I got some shots of a cardinal, but against the trunk of a tree w/ leaves on the ground, it just looks so drab, and doesn't do his colors any justice.
Loretta-your pictures are great! Love the towhee shots, haven't seen any here yet, usually have a male and female around this time of year. I put a few flicker shots up, there is one pic with 8 flickers in a tree in my yard. Not a close up, but if you make it full size you can see. We have lots of them here.
Loretta, the bird near the feeder at the first pic with the very long tail, reminds me of a cuckoo...I guess it is maybe "just a mockingbird" ? In fact I think there are two birds like that in your picture.
saw Glo posting in chat room at HI, had one woman there this a.m. make a typo and another woman reprimanded her for her spelling...got to love those chat rooms:)
Oh No, blogger wiped out my message!!!!Guess it was too long. I see Margy decided the bird was cardinal. One that puzzled me was on berries, upper left. Now I see it has eyestripe & must be Carolina wren. Was hoping for waxwings. Last year a flock came by & wiped out the berries in 2 days! Megan, flickers are pretty--only ones I asee are flying up from grassy shoulder of road. You see those white rumps. Great pictures everyone! Deb, we have a stuffed scoter at Park(gotta check which one). And Glo better go into pic business like Bob!! Sorry I didn't get to vote, but they're all great!! Lynn, Surratt House was taken over several years ago by Park & Planning, so now it's in our Division. Chelsea office here does all the "museum support" (signage, banners, graphics, etc.) for nature centers & house museums. The paint dried!!!Gave it 2nd coat----then other side. BBL
Loretta, next time you pop in, what is the bird flying between the female Cardinal and the feeder post. Whitish tail, some white on the wings. I think I see yellow on the head. looks to be the same size as the Cardinals.

Hope you don't get called in, Margy. Glad you enjoyed your sausage gravy...Libby's has good flavor, but a bit skimpy on the sausage, so GOOD idea to supplement....did you do bisquits or pancakes?

English Muffins, Hedgie
Hi Deb ☺
'Bye now...
I take about 1/4 lb of Tennessee Pride mild sausage and cut into small chunks as I fry it in a large skillet. I have premixed 2 cups of milk, 3 tablespoons of flour 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. Then I add milk mixture to sausage in the skillet stirring constantly and bring to a boil. Continue to boil and stirring till it thickens. LIBBY'S CAN'T TOUCH THAT.
Good Morning everyone:)
well that really sounds easy, Red:)
Nest Update
03/03/09:
On March 14, Blackwater Refuge will be holding its 9th Annual Eagle Festival.
Visitors will be able to watch our new eaglets on the live video feed at the Visitor Center.
Please join us for our most popular event of the year.
Sounds easy to me, Red. I have never made sausage and gravy and have maybe eaten it twice in my lifetime. I do know a few people who eat it around here, but not many.
When I retire, I plan to be a Gourmet cook, but when I am on 12-hour work shifts, I have to cut some corners....
I'll save your recipe, RED -
as it was, I let the slow cooker take care of the cooking while I took care of a dozen other things...☺
I thought it would be alot harder to make, I've never had it but my friend from Vermont, loves sausage gravy and grits, will send her the recipe. Guess you can't substitute whole milk for skim, huh:)
We should set up a Momsters album somehow with nothing but these delicious recipes that many share on here...☺
I guess just saving them to a personal file is just as easy...
I guess BWE just flip-flopped, think I missed it..:(
I would love to go to Blackwater...
working that week-end, chances look slim
Thanks for reminding us, Mits
and Good M☺rning
Daddy used to make the absolute best sausage gravy. Mommy made the best biscuits. Her's were thicker and fluffier and Daddy's were flatter. Good stuff. I wished I had learned how to make Mommy's biscuits. Okay, now I am getting really hungry and this cucumber is not cutting it this morning! :)
I think maybe Red should just publish a CookBook, complete with pictures..☺

Good Wednesday Morning from the BigRigTravels Broadcast Truck!

I am thinking eating cucumbers might be a little bit healthier if I didn't totally soak them in salt when eating them.
Red...is your recipe the low cholesterol version?? LOL! I use a whole pouhd of sausage!!!
crow is near the nest at HI, and you can hear the eagles in the distance, sounds like spring there with all the other birds.
Wonder if we could "hire" the Eagle Express for a field trip to BW????

yeah, and Barbie is 50 years old now, too. Leave her alone, still have mine around here somewhere.
nope, don't need the trash can:)
I don't care if guys or girls play with Barbies, but I worry about lawmakers who waste time on such stupid issues.
Especially in today's economy, what a waste of valuable time!
I lost all of the Wildwatch live cams, I need to check the 10 second ones.
hey Jeff, lighten up:)

I think BRS is taking a different route from what he planned. Bet he's taking I-10 to I-49 then up.

Hi Mema -
Hi Red again
and everyone else, trying to post my BWE Egglets pic
the sunset pic from last night was from I-10, Red
Well, I called them Egglets instead of Eaglets but I did get a post on Magpie's Roost of the babies from just before noontime
Margy - your pic went in just great!
Loretta - I just can't get over the variety of our feathered friends' pic you have placed on your blog!
Thanks Jo!
I am glad the shadows were gone from the nest when I saw it...☺
I love the bluebird on the twigs with the red berries on Loretta's pix, also all the other ones!
It is hard to choose just one favorite of NatureNut's bird. We need to take a trip to the park with her!
good job, Margy:)
JO-ELLEN did you use you trash can!!!!!!!!
She's a sly one, that Jo, Mits...

What a difference a nice background makes....I got some shots of a cardinal, but against the trunk of a tree w/ leaves on the ground, it just looks so drab, and doesn't do his colors any justice.
blue band across BWE
cleared up now:)
Loretta, is the Surrat Tavern in your park? Didn't know that!!
Nice pics, Nature!
Both eagles at LW
Loretta, the bird near the feeder at the first pic with the very long tail, reminds me of a cuckoo...I guess it is maybe "just a mockingbird" ?
In fact I think there are two birds like that in your picture.
Forget that last comment! I just need better eyes...think they are both female cardinals...
can only get them on the 10 second cam, like Deb mentioned before
So therefore I'm the one that is Cuckoo

Feeding at BWE babies exposed with parent in view
SW and Frosty are out!
eagles, ducks, seagulls calling at HI, also some human voices too.
One of the LW eagles is back in the nest, the other is still on the limb.
saw Glo posting in chat room at HI, had one woman there this a.m. make a typo and another woman reprimanded her for her spelling...got to love those chat rooms:)
Deb, wonder what happened to the live feed at LW and Kent?
Snow White and Frosty are going to be hard to tell apart...only 1 day apart.
estimated time for the cherry blossoms to bloom at the Tidal Basin this year is April 3rd thru the 9th
I am not sure, the whole Critterzoom site is down.
little beaking at LW

BBL
from Judy's Eagle Calendar HI should lay eggs.....
Mar 24-28
Yes, Paula, they are going to be. Maybe one will have some feature to help tell them apart, size most likely won't help.
there is something really strange with my phone number just got my 3rd wrong number caller, and they are coming from all over the country.
Are they all for the same person??
no, one was from VA, this one was from Texas looking for Claudia, they sound like they are coming from businesses
beautiful sunny day at the Sidney eagle cam.
feeding at BWE
Great new photos and BWE chick and nest photos on your site, Deb...
really good ones!
Love that cardinal too!
Loretta, next time you pop in, what is the bird flying between the female Cardinal and the feeder post. Whitish tail, some white on the wings. I think I see yellow on the head. looks to be the same size as the Cardinals.
New to me, that is...now I remember that Mar 3 was yesterday
Those babies have a good appetite
