Thank you Glo, it actually is fun waiting, not for my Annie, but last year everything was such a blur, with everything happening so fast. She is off to the doctors this a.m., then to work. The only way you can get this woman to stop is when she goes into labor.

Hello, Donna, no Annie delivered the old fashion way. She just called and doctor said he would see her next week, so she is taking the day off to have her hair done, and get a little pampering.

Although a little hesitant around new people and surroundings, Mei Xiang has no problem swiping food from her panda pal, Tian Tian.

BIRTHDAY: Aug. 27, 1997
Tian Tian has made himself known as the bolder of the two pandas, walking right into the panda enclosure the night of his arrival and sitting front and center, munching biscuits, before the crowds during his and Mei Xiang's unveiling at the zoo. He is said to be more drawn to people and more food-motivated. Tian Tian also has distinctive markings: he sports black "knee socks"; a black band across his shoulders that narrows in the middle; and two faint black dots across the bridge of his nose. At his birthplace in China, he was known as an escape artist, adept at finding ways out of his enclosure.
This might be helpful to all you panda watchers, it is hard to spot them when they are rolling around like today.

Hey, eagle lovers - soooooo good to see the nest again! I have a question about hawks and kittens. Yesterday I saw a rabbit in my back yard and as it hopped beyond where I could see it, a hawk swooped down from a tree and went in the direction of the rabbit. I did not see whether the hawk got the rabbit. Now I am worried about my 2 kittens. Do any of you know whether a hawk would take a kitten? On a completely different subject - have any of you tried the new chocolate-raspberry M&M's? They are fantastic!
Carol - I've wondered about that too. We have a hawk in our neighborhood and a full grown cat that is only 5 1/2 lbs. I don't let her out in our postage stamp sized, fenced in yard behind our townhouse because of the possibility.

Panda cams are active...
Bob - last Feb or Mar, my large tomcat was walking in my backyard when I was getting some firewood. A hawk (the same one probably) swooped down to about 10 feet above the cat and then continued flying. I assumed that it probably figured out that the cat was as large as or larger than it was. Another time I saw it fly real close to my bird feeder and all the birds scattered. The kittens are outside cats, so I'm not sure what to do about them.
Was good to see Geula on earlier. I know she had emailed that her computer was sick & had to use her neighbors. Hopefully she got all the links she wanted.

Hi Carol, I too have outside cats and hawks. So far I've had no tragic incidents but I think I would have a concern for the kittens - due to their size. Hopefully they have been taught to head for the weeds! My old Tom heads for the house when the larger birds fly close by to the yard.

Yes I got back from my vacation late last night and no I'm not ready to be back at work but here I sit. I cant blog but at least replying this way and I can tell all of you how much fun I had and thank all of you for your love and support. What an adventure. I have never seen such beauty and had such a wonderful experience. Yes I took pictures and will get them to you as soon as I unpack. Back to work!
From donna: cats are the bottom of the totem pole or (food chain). Birds of prey would rather have anything than a cat for a snack. There have been cases of cats and dogs being attacked by birds of prey. Cats are not tasty it seems. Most instances are mistaken identity. Rabbits and squirrels mice and voles much better for birds of prey than cats. Also, cats put up such a good fight, that raptors rather not deal with it I imagine. There have been cases when kittens and small dogs have been attacked by raptors, and sometimes if a small animal gets close to a nest, they will attack. Makes you think, though, my cats are my furbabies. and my kids call me Cat Momma. Hope this helps. Anyone have the actual data on this. mauley

As for the pop-up, it's not hard to do. Basically it's just using JavaScript to create a window of a specific size that displays the cam image. If they are interested in doing that, they can borrow the code from our site.
YAWN....took a little panda nap, didn't mean too, just went in to catch some news, and, lights out....Lisa, that sounds like the Maine nest, I keep that one up just to hear the eagles, they come so close, but sometimes, don't come in view.

Its getting to that time of day when Lib & Belle appear!!!! I has Jasmin yesterday and took her to Pa to see her pappy and granny up there.. They bought her a cradle and afew other things... Stopped by my parents house and my step mother is doing just great since the surgery Thanks for the prayers... My dad is almost 82 just looks at her and smiles...
