Thursday

New thread.

I have been racing back and forth to DC the past few days. I had the honor to be in the audience on Tuesday at the Main Interior Building when the President spoke for the 160th Anniversary of the Department of the Interior. Had to go back down yesterday to DC as well...

I AGREE PAULA!!!----If I get near our nest---FREEZE--FREEZE & very difficult to refresh----really get hangs-up!!!----Wish we didn't have such long--long blogs----???

paula eagleholic said...

Hmmm, wouldn't the live vultures eat the dead ones? They are scavengers, after all.

Red said...

I don't think we have a baby yet. There has been no food delivery or anything to indicat a baby is there yet.

paula eagleholic said...

Looks like a bird snack at BWE...

normabyrd said...

PAULA---That article was from CHARLESTON GAZETTE----They say the VULTURE will have nothing to do with their own DEAD BIRDS----Thus scaring them away---

paula eagleholic said...

Eewwiie at BWO I think

BWO UPDATE......

Nest Update

03/06/09:
Our Great horned owl has been to the platform on three different occasions now. Although we enjoy seeing such a beautiful bird, he won't be welcomed by the ospreys when they return.

Great horned owls have been known to prey on osprey chicks and more rarely osprey adults.

paula eagleholic said...

Interesting fact, Norma!

Red said...

but food gets delivered usually as soon as one is hatched.

normabyrd said...

It's a warm 51° at BWE!!!

normabyrd said...

I couldn't tell---can only see the back!

Mits said...

yes, Paula, think it is him, he has a short body from head to tail when he is in the nest.

paula eagleholic said...

Yes, Lib starts bringing fish as soon as he is aware of a hatching!

Lolly said...

Good morning! Took a while to go through the blog!

SHARON.....Happy Birthday!!! Have a great day!

DANELLE.....Happy Birthday!! Hope your day is very special!

So glad Jo's surgery went well. If any of you talk with her, tell her I've been thinking of her.

We are breaking camp right now, heading to Fredericksburg, TX. (By way of eagles nest!) Should have Wifi at the next campground as well.

To all of you......have fun watching our nest! I'll be back on early afternoon for me. I think!

NORMA...once again, Friday morning breakfast "ain't what she used to be!" :(

BBL

glo said...

Nope no food needed for the eaglet for several hours but as I remember last year that Lib was hauling in a "whale" of a celebration up there in that tree.

Mits said...

Would somebody please fire the blogger cop. I have typed in my password at least 8 times and he won’t let me in.
Glad to hear that Jo is sounding perky (or loopy!!). Gotta tell ya'--when I take Percocet, i turn into a real chatterbox! My girls always laugh at me. But...not too long ago my youngest had a big toenail removed and her MIL gave her a Percocet, and she just wouldn't hush, either!
Nice breakfast...good crowd--think we had 22 people....restaurant loves us!

hedgie said...

FINALLY....geesh!

Interesting that they would be afraid of their own dead, I bet the biologists would like to read their minds!

They are such fine looking birds you would think they would be afraid of their own living!

Started out as a cloudy day, but sun is out and it's already up to 66...of course, along w/ the nice temps come the bugs....saw a big blow fly when I was outside, and last evening saw a wolf spider---ugh---hate them the most!

Mits said...

I hope she is, too. It is hard to see her between the bars until she moves.

Mits said...

Deb, what is the latest on Redoubt?

deb said...

New Blogger cop message for me:

Server Error

The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request.
Please try again in 30 seconds.

Mits said...

I almost missed her, then she moved:)

deb said...

They just keep posting the same message over and over again. The only thing they change is if you can see the volcano or not on the cam.

Redoubt volcano has not erupted. Seismicity is low, and includes small, discrete earthquakes.

Webcam images are dark. No anomalous activity is seen in mostly-cloudy satellite images.

AVO continues to monitor Redoubt closely and the observatory is staffed 24 hours a day.

Mits said...

I've seen that one before, also have to post my name and password several times a day...don't know what is wrong.

Mits said...

thanks, guess we will know if it blows...

paula eagleholic said...

Is that Peter cottontail at BWE???

Mits said...

I just sent a pic to myself to enlarge, thought it looked like Bugs.

Mits said...

oh yeah looks like Peter, see the cottontail

movin said...

Hi again. I don't see any notice that one of the eggs at the Allen's Hummingbird nest has hatched.

Is that food at BWE a bird or a rabbit?? Looks like rabbit leg and fur, but I thought I saw a bird's tail, and Paula said it looked like a bird to her....

"Server Error" reminded me. I tried the new "critterzoom" link to the new Kent cam, which Deb gave us a couple of days ago, and it worked perfectly then; but I haven't been able to open it since.

Well, I asked about it on the Kent Forum, and the Administrator said something about a group of servers, which are in CA somewhere, have been down a lot for a couple of days.

Could be why you couldn't get through too.

Happy Birthday Sharon and Danelle!! Hugs and prayers for Jo.

I'm going to a retreat in Shepherdstown all weekend, so take good notes so i can get caught up on the action when I get a break.

Looks like SnowWhite and Frosty and bunny for lunch?

paula eagleholic said...

JIm - Peter cottontail is a rabbit, not a bird!
