The 1st egg hatched this afternoon (Saturday Mar. 21st) at the Norfolk Botanical Garden. We believe that the hatching occur ed between 12:00 and 12:30pm but the female's attentiveness made it difficult to get a clear view. A second egg has pipped so we'll expect to it hatch sometime soon. The entire hatching process can take up to 24 hours so we are unsure when the 2nd hatchling will make it's debut.
Thanks Jo and Norma. Yeah, he will do fine, I have no doubt. I wish we all lived closer together so we could do stuff like this together!! Ya'll made my birthday such a great day, all the well wishes and cards!!
I am home from kayaking, got in about 5 or so. I am pooped. We didn't see a lot of birds today, I think we are too early. We did see 4 nesting eagles though, so that was fun. I didn't take any pictures, with the water temp at 38 degrees, I thought I should pay attention to where I was going. We paddled 15 miles today, my arms are tired!
If I weren't so familiar with the river, I never would have gone, but I have been a river rat for a lonnng time. If you are cautious and pay attention, you are pretty safe.
I got to see one nest switch, my first! I wish we had been closer to the nest but I was on the wrong side of the river. I was even with the nest when the eagle flew in, got to see the nesting eagle stand up, then had to watch the rest over my shoulder. I wish there was a brake on the kayak!
I am off to the couch for some down time. I will sleep like a log tonight, Helen.
Roosting Bird took off, eating bird going to set....Way Cool, the cam operators moving the view around so we can see better...when this is over, I will go and read all today's news !
I tried reading the comment, Margy, but just skimmed through. Too tired to read them all. Took GeeGee shopping in Hagerstown and she got two pairs of slacks and a pretty pink sweater. Took her to dinner at the Golden Corral. They were serving, among other things, crab cakes and coconut shrimp..yum!

Storming in Scotland at the Loch of the Lowe's nest, with one Osprey which Chrissy said yesterday might be Skye (the male) from last year. Not sure if this site will always bring up the nest, sometimes it might show another site for feeders, but this time of the morning it is the Osrey Nest:

Loch of Lowes is Netty and male Deshar. This nest laid eggs 1-Apr. 11, 2-Apr. 13 and 3-Apr. 16th
Good morning everyone. Glad there are new kids in the neighbors nests for sure. I think Norfolk Mom is still pretty stressed from last season. I could be wrong but she had one traumatic time with intruders and eggs smashed and new clutch to Buddy being with her ..."Buddy" was the name that won the vote, but many were very upset there even was a vote. They all call him what they want to.... for a few weeks and then disappearing into human hands never to return. She has seen her young banded and returned but not last year. I sure hope this is a happy healthy season for them. OK is in awesome cam. The administrator there actually came into our chatroom when it existed and is a member of our forum. I don't do much over there either this year as I don't whip a dead horse but I will probably put some OK pictures there since he took the time to join.
Well tuckered out from Wildlife Refuge yesterday but it was a great day. Dex was hiking around like he was the young one.
Off to church and then will pull up a few cams. Got Labor, delivery and nursery happenings all over the place LOL.
MEGAN---NORFOLK site is unbelievable!!----Watch the slides they have of yesterday HATCH!!--Really BLOWS your mind!!!---- (can't reprint any of their pics)
Isn't it great, Norma? I wa watching yesterday, and since I got up this morning, second chick is breaking out of egg, and you could really see it moving.
I thought I wasn't going to get to see the finish of the chick coming fully out. NBG kept freezing on me. I got to see it though thank goodness. Happy Happy here
Sorry if I duplicated somebody. I read a couple of comments right after I signed on that implied a video, but I still haven't found it, and then I went to the other forum to see what had developed ......
Good morning, Norma, Paula, Mits, DAna, Megan, Glo...and all in Eagle Land.

Oh yeah, Mits, I agree completely. My heart is with ours of course, but this is the best cam I have ever seen. The two views, one close and one pulled back, is the greatest!!
yeah I still like NCTC nest, since it is the first one I ever watched, but have learned a whole lot more by expanding my horizons and going to other nests. But this HI with the clarity and the sound and the 2 views is just plain awesome if you like to watch eagles live.
I just looked in at the Allen's Hummer nest, and the chicks are pushing on one another to get higher in the nest and stretch out...
And I was thinking they probably have several days more before fledging, at least; but suddenly one of them sticks one wing out and then the other, and it starts flapping them extremely quickly just like an adult! So, maybe they're closer to flight than we think.
I looked at the NBG as you suggested, and it looks like the #1 is trying to do #2 in. And in fact she ignored the mother repeatedly as she tried to feed the bigger one.
So Mom just sat on both of them to slow the pecking down.
WHOA! JIM!!---Remember---the older chick is always pecking at the younger or smaller chick!!---I HATE seeing it---but that's seems to be a natural thing----
No tan, Norma, I was covered except for my hands and face! The temp was nice but a breeze over the water kept it cool. When we would stop and take a break on land, we warmed up.
Been lurking all morning while reading papers, cooking breakfast and watching news shows. Hornby is beautiful, but missed the egg! Still can't get qa pic on NBG, but did see the video w/ the hatching...adorable!
Well, I am gonna get up from here and get ready for the day. I want to try to walk some this morning. It is beautiful here in Falls Mills, have a beautiful dam right down the road. I am gonna try to walk down there for a minute.
I thought I saw 2 at our nest but did not dare to say anything Lynn. But then I wasn't sure!!
HEDGIE!---HEDGIE!----I saw the same thing this am----I SWORE to DANA--IT LOOKS LIKE SHE HAS 2 CHICKS!!---Maybe I am not CRAZY!---!---(or we both are NUTS) ho!
Norma, meant to say last evening....you never need to apologize for your rebel statement!! "Save your confederate money, boys...the SOuth shall rise again" is one of my favorite quotes!! When my youngest was in a class play in middle school about the war, there was a most appropriate time for that interjection...and I called it out from the audience!! YES, I DID!!!! You can take the girl out of the "south" but you can't take the south out of the girl.....of course, too many people forget, THIS was the south at the start of the war!
Sissy, couldn't get a capture on live feed....and then glare became terrible and couldn't see anything and then one flew in and now a rooster covering all.....MTBR!!! Have a good day for your party....take your camera to the dam!!!!!
HEDGIE----I looked back this am & I told DANA---at about 8:00 am that I thought I saw 2 chicks!!!--was almost afraid to say it!!---ho!----LAST YEAR---I used to tease & called the NORFOLK chicks---the 'little rebels'---They were really fun to watch!!!!

Oh, I just saw a fuzzy head at NBG! Still waiting for a better glimpse of the OK eaglet. Both there now.
NBG is going to feed the eaglet!
Maybe one or two little bites is all the eaglet needed.
NBG Mom was up cleaning in well & chicklet bobbing around. Looked like 2 eggs.

Nice video of NBG. Don't know why I couldn't view cam earlier today.
Is Spidey still gone from our nest? Good riddance!!
Going to call it a day or at least go into recliner and get this leg up. There is still some swelling in the foot area when I overdo.
Good Night All

So thankful for all these little fuzzy eaglets in their nests.

I am off to bed, going to read until I fall asleep!

Lolly is certainly going to be happy upon her return to hear about the NBG eaglets!
Mits, we have an egg at HI!!!!!
Did you see it?
I just checked!----the SUN IS SHINING IN 'BLUEFIELD'!!!!!!!
COOL- Sissy! Just saw the egg!
Great view of the egg at Hornby!
have not been west yet, Sissy.
Oh yeah, good morning everyone!!
It is a spectacular view of the egg!!
MORNIN' MEMA JO & SISSY!!---LET'S ALL GO TO MEGAN'S HOUSE!----"BLUE BERRY PANCAKES"---I would kill for just a taste!!---enjoy!!
I just went, all I see is eagle sitting on it...
HI has got to been one of the best cams to watch eagles...jmho
Morning Norma........
Eggs and Eaglets all over the nests!!!!
Going to put the leg up......
Enjoy your day... Catch some sunshine!!
BBL
Oh yeah, Mits, I agree completely. My heart is with ours of course, but this is the best cam I have ever seen. The two views, one close and one pulled back, is the greatest!!
There it is, such detail!
yeah I still like NCTC nest, since it is the first one I ever watched, but have learned a whole lot more by expanding my horizons and going to other nests. But this HI with the clarity and the sound and the 2 views is just plain awesome if you like to watch eagles live.
looks windy at OK...have not seen eagle up yet
Come on over, Norma, I got plenty of pancakes!
Daffodils are blooming here and hyacinths...
Mom is up at NBG!
Good Eagleland Morning Mits, Mema Jo (with leg up) and Sissy.
Mits which link are you watching for Hornby that has 2 views on one page?
Thank you for the forecast AMEN.

Jim
I looked at the NBG as you suggested, and it looks like the #1 is trying to do #2 in. And in fact she ignored the mother repeatedly as she tried to feed the bigger one.
So Mom just sat on both of them to slow the pecking down.

I just put both views up of HI, separately, Dana
The NORFOLK DAD & MOM are adoring the little 'rebels'!! --The family is together now!!
Good morning, What a day for NBG with eaglet #2! I am still waiting for a view of the HI egg.
WHOA! JIM!!---Remember---the older chick is always pecking at the younger or smaller chick!!---I HATE seeing it---but that's seems to be a natural thing----
MORNIN' DEB!---Did you get a tan?-----Envy your energy & all the FUN things you can do!! YOU GO GIRL!!
I just saw the HI egg! What a good view!
No tan, Norma, I was covered except for my hands and face! The temp was nice but a breeze over the water kept it cool. When we would stop and take a break on land, we warmed up.
Hey gang....I HATE to say anything, but it sure looked like we have two in our nest....did anyone else see it??
Been lurking all morning while reading papers, cooking breakfast and watching news shows.
Hornby is beautiful, but missed the egg! Still can't get qa pic on NBG, but did see the video w/ the hatching...adorable!
with the glare on the nest now, I can't see anything.
Will check back in with ya'll later!!!!
HEDGIE!---HEDGIE!----I saw the same thing this am----I SWORE to DANA--IT LOOKS LIKE SHE HAS 2 CHICKS!!---Maybe I am not CRAZY!---!---(or we both are NUTS) ho!
both eagles at OK
HEY SISSY---That makes 3 NUTS!---ho!
now just one at OK
Both eagles in LW. I think HI eagle wants a switch, but the other eagle hasn't responded.
Oops, one left at LW.
Well I'm finally back in. Had to take computer down and reboot.
Sissy have fun walking to the dam.
Good Eageland Morning to Deb and Lynn.
Thank you Mits I'll try that.
I did get to see the chick finish hatching at NBG. Terrible freezing at that site. Thought I was going to miss it. Neat OH!!!
Now I'm hearing we have a hatch at Hornby??? WOW hatching everywhere.
Mema Jo has her leg up..well when I was in before she was leaving to do that.
Oh also met to say I seen the little dickens at Ok. Cutie !
finally saw egg at HI:)
Whoever said I think it was Lynn...glare on our nest...it right...pull the blinds please.
NO hatch at Hornby, Dana, just first egg
Mits do you know when the egg was laid at Hornby 1?
Redoubt is back to Orange, I think they should just leave it there:
Redoubt Volcano Latest Observations
2009-03-22 05:49:17
Seismicity remains elevated with several small events occurring each minute. There are numerous small events registered on more than one instrument. We are watching closely.
HP in LW!
Dana, it was sometime during the night, no infrared lights at Hornby Island.
Poof for LW.
Thank you Deb. I did get to see the egg at Hornby. Mits I like that putting the 2 view of Hornby up thank you great idea.
If anyone is trying to get to the Ft. St. Vain live eagle cam and can't get it. You need to "update java there is an update out for it".
Both our nest, brought more fluff I think
Both, our nest.
Wow Deb, Thanks...didn't even know there was 1 egg at LW
Sure wish eagle would move so we could see eaglet when the sun isn't so bright!
