mmmm, brownies...yum

Mits said...

chicks and parent sleeping at BWE, so is our eagle

floralgirl said...

OK cam seems to be down to one cam right now, keeps stopping on me. Last I saw, still one chick there.

deb said...

Redoubt cam is working again, runoff from melting snow is very obvious. The top of the volcano is in ash and/or clouds.

Redoubt

Mema Jo said...

Passing by and thought I would check in before going into watch some tv..
Those brownies smell sooooooo yummy!
But I am count carbs! Guess I'll have some celery!

You all take care - watch your step with that fancy dancing!

Hope to be back later to say good night..

((hugs))

magpie said...

Wow, Deb - that's a lot of Ash!

magpie said...

Just watched the NBG Feeding Video..
looked a little one-sided didn't it?

Remember the scenario in Our Nest Three years ago, when it was Feed the two bigger ones until they were so full they could hardly move, then the baby got a nice meal...

magpie said...

Mmmmmmm, Brownies! Would be a nice dessert for my Split Pea Soup !

deb said...

Hey, Jo, it sounds like you are healing well! That is wonderful news.

Still one egg in HI. (I always think of Hawaii when I type that)

deb said...

It is snowing in Oregon again.

floralgirl said...

celery is truly not a replacement for brownies, I'll have one for ya.

deb said...

Yes, Margy, it is. I assume some of it has to be ash, but they canceled the Ashfall Advisory.

Field Trip to Swinging Bridge
SAW
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker (female)
Red-Bellied Woodpecker (male)
Pileated Woodpecker
Black-capped chickadee
Red-Winged Blackbird
Pair of Mallard Ducks ( ♀and ♂ )
Muskrat
Carp, a convention, (might have been a mating event going on....several smaller ones hovered around a larger one)
Heard:
Carolina Wren, Tifted Titmouse, Spring Peepers!
Saw AND Heard: One fully adult Redneck driving a loud pick-up truck who thought it was COOL to lay a patch, about three times near the bridge !

On the way out, saw a turkey fly across the road and roost in a tree, was a Nice Hen! then it flew off again.

Sure glad I heard that little voice of Jo's (or was it that giraffe) telling me to GET OUT!
I also saw one bird I am still trying to identify...

magpie said...

MEGAN
Please have at least TWO of those brownies for me, I worked up an appetite! ☺

deb said...

There is supposed to be an owlet, I haven't seen it yet, though.

GHO Nest

magpie said...

...Eastern Phoebe....

Heard it way before I saw it.

floralgirl said...

I cannot eat 3 brownies tonite...unless I cut them really small..too many calories.

magpie said...

Wow, thanks for the reminder, Deb, I had forgotten to be watching that...I have been checking Valmont and not seeing much of anything

floralgirl said...

Well, I've heard lots of rednecks, must be their migration season.. but I haven't heard any phoebes yet... carolina wrens are busy filling up birdhouse gourd I hung up on deck, may be a battle when the hummers get here. I usually hang a feeder right by the deck.

magpie said...

Well, it's time to try to do some of the things I failed to do during the day...
Wah !

Hello in advance to everyone

Mits said...

have a brownie for me too...please.

Mits said...

that is a great cam of Redoubt, Deb.

magpie said...

I know they are loud, but I love them, the Wrens!

Megan - I was hoping to at least hear the Towhee, and wandered pretty far hoping to see them if I heard them, no luck.

How could I leave this out:

Hundreds of Baby Bluebells, waiting to push up further out of the ground! Saw this last year, the leaves are a dark purple underneath, I will return in a few days and check the progress! I was very happy to see these !

☺ ☺ ☺ ☺

deb said...

I haven't seen much there either, but she was in last night for about 45 minutes.

Our eagle looks like she is peeking over the edge of the nest.

Mits said...

I was watching Betty the Owl earlier and trying to read their chat room, they seemed to be talking about an owlet pushed out of some nest, don't know if it was this nest or some other one.

magpie said...

...and I better hurry up and get my digital camera, 'cause the camera I have does not do the wildflowers justice in most cases.

TTFN xoxoxo

floralgirl said...

Oh, bluebells, joy! sure sign of Spring.
You guys, I'm gonna get sick if I eat all these brownies, and they are still too hot to touch.

deb said...

You saw lots today, Margy! I would like to see a Pileated Woodpecker sometime.

magpie said...

Megan - When they open up in this particular spot, it is beyond belief! Have another place I check that gets Larkspur...
☺ I love this time of year, I really start to come alive again !

Mits said...

well hold on, it will take me about 75 minutes to get there:)

floralgirl said...

Got larkspur sprouting in the GH.
Had a pileated out back of Gh today, tapping on an old stump we left there for woodpeckers. Took me a while to figure out where the noise was coming from.

Mits said...

no night light still at NBG, but they have it close enough to the nest, you can see eagles' white head, moving back and forth, may have just been another feeding

Mits said...

jubby did not get home til 9, so we just finished dinner....

magpie said...

Remember the song, kind of like a girl scout song,
"If I were a Baby Owlet..."
I cannot find it on Google, and cannot really remember many of the words....

deb said...

I hope it isn't this nest, MIts. I have been reading the Chat tonight and they weren't talking about the owls.

magpie said...

...I would never steal away.....that's part of it too.

Mits said...

I hope not either....

hedgie said...

Megan, if you hadn't found it you could have used either almond or mint extracts!

deb said...

Both eagles in HI, eagle in LW is sitting up, one heron looks like it is laying in the nest. Our eagle is still awake. I am off to watch Dancing in speed motion.

floralgirl said...

Hmmm. I might have almond extract, but I love vanilla...

magpie said...

Well, here are all the lyrics to the song I have in my head now!

Thank you, Deb...☺ ♥

Baby Owlet,
Purple Owlet,
Singing as Moon shines above.

Baby Owlet,
Purple Owlet,
Singing as Dawn shines above.

Won't you lend me your swift pinion?
Won't you lend me your swift pinion,
Won't you lend me your swift pinion,
That I may
Fly to my love.

That I may
Fly to my love.

Tetra coo, coo, coo
Tetra Coo, coo, coo
Tetra coo, coo coo
Baby Owlet
Poor little owlet
He is tired
from crying so.

If I were a
Baby Owlet
I would never steal away.
If I were a
Baby Owlet
I would never steal away.

Till my wings were strong and steady
Till my wings were strong and steady
Till my wings were strong and steady
Safe within
My nest I'd stay.
Safe witin
My nest I'd stay

...Isn't this pretty ♪ ♫

magpie said...

All I need now is a sit-upon and a campfire and some roasted marshmallows or some s'mores!

magpie said...

Whoa, - Lady LW disappeared !

magpie said...

Or maybe it was Lord LW - whichever one it was looked just a little but scruffy tonight...

Mits said...

nice tune, Margy.....Goodnight everyone:)

magpie said...

* Good Night Mits...Sleep Sweetly, and same wish for Jay * xoxo ♥

hedgie said...

"Til my wings were strong and steady" part of your song, too, Margy? I searched, too, and that came up with the lines you had, but nothing else...it was someone's search for the song.

hedgie said...

Ooops...see you found it all! Cute song!

hedgie said...

Goodnight, Mits! Jay puts in long days, doesn't he??

Costume Lady said...

Who on earth is singing?
Do I smell brownies?
I also have ashes falling on my 'puter. Thought I'd better get on here and find out what is going on!

hedgie said...

Oh, Wanda, LOL!!! Virtual computing, right??

Costume Lady said...

Margy, I have a patch of those very bluebelles you saw today. Got them from Swangin Bradge, probably 30 years ago. Also some Trout Lillies and Wild Larkspur.

We have a pair of Phoebes that builds their nest under our deck...sweet little birds:)

magpie said...

Hello Berkeley County Ladies...some of them anyway...

Hey! When the Waxwings and Indigo Buntings return to Swinging Bridge....we can make a field trip!
Remember, I have seen an Osprey there, also Baltimore Oriole, Scarlet Tanager, Green Heron and a few other specialties...☺

magpie said...

Momma LW is settle down for the night at the Deep Well

Costume Lady said...

Absolutely, Lynn. I had a poop shoot from Hidey land on my key board a few days ago;)

magpie said...

...shhhhhh
I won't tell!

I did get some pix last year but they do not measure up !

floralgirl said...

OOOH I wanna go to swinging bridge...nite all:)

hedgie said...

You didn't miss smelling Margy's solit pea soup, did you? (Yucko--don't tell her I said that!!) :(

Costume Lady said...

Field trip sounds good to me. Maybe a picnic, too.

magpie said...

( I transplanted Mocaassin flowers once but they did not thrive...)

Costume Lady said...

Nite Megan:)

magpie said...

My sister gave me some Forget-me-nots from Massachusetts and they took off like crazy, only problem is that I moved and they didn't :(
so she sent me some seeds the next year and they have done famously!

Costume Lady said...

I also, planted several types of wild orchids, but none of them have lived more than two years.

hedgie said...

That was supposed to say split pea!
Come on Megan...we'll take you with us! It's a cool place!
O-o-h, Wanda....use dinsfectant on that keyboard!

magpie said...

Ha Ha Ha Hedgie..
Don't you think Brownies and Split Pea soup would make a Powerful combination ? ☺

hedgie said...

Nite-nite, Megan. You are a hard workin' gal....get plenty of rest!

hedgie said...

No way, Margy!! I don't do peas!!

Costume Lady said...

GeeGee has forget-me-nots in her flower garden and veg. garden and grass and in every little nook and cranny of her property. She thinks they are a nuisance and I love them.

magpie said...

I tried Butterfly weed once too, but it also failed...But I know where to find them!
DNR is kinda touchy about those things, can see the headlines now:
Old Lady arrested for possession of contraband...wild flowers!

And wild red columbine....comes out around the first week of May, on the road TO Swinging Bridge....
that is also one place I saw the Scarlet Tanager one year, and it was an "Orange Variant" - oooh, exquisite !

Costume Lady said...

Margie, Gene like to make split pea soup with a big ham hock and an assortment of different colored peas. Yummm!

Costume Lady said...

Good with toasted cheese bread!

Costume Lady said...

I also got some butterfly weed along the roadside going to the creek and it did not survive???
My wild columbine is alive and well...everywhere!

magpie said...

Better throw in a quick Good Night, thinking that JO might check back in, and everyone approaching the Feather Pillows...

I'll be up, now trying to balance checkbook....
Just tried my first on-line banking experience, think this will be pretty helpful!

Sounds Yummy ! I had a few ham pieces and also threw in one Kielbasi sausage link...

magpie said...

We haven't talked about Food for quite awhile!

That eagle at LW is hard to spot, I guess she is hunkered down in the nest...

magpie said...

Oh well there she is standing up, maybe she was not in the nest !

Costume Lady said...

The Tanager is so beautiful, it almost seems unreal. Have only seen one twice in my life. Look forward to seeing more:)

magpie said...

..and one spidey strand way off to the right....☺ or is it :(

magpie said...

Wanda: One field trip to your place then! Let me know when those columbines come up !

Costume Lady said...

Margie, do you plan on going to Loretta's Park when we go? We will try to choose a day when most of us will be free. Have to check in with Loretta once again.

magpie said...

Okay, back to work for me - at home that is. I am off tomorrow...Thank Goodness!
Good Night, all, if I don't make it back for awhile..

Peace, Love and Prayers xo

Costume Lady said...

Sure will, Margy, they are beautiful.

magpie said...

Wanda !
Yes I sure do. I will get my April schedule soon. Loretta posted that the pontoon boats usually start operating in May, if we think we can wait that long!
Sounds like there is plenty to see, including the Visitors Center, regardless of the boat option...

Costume Lady said...

I'm taking GeeGee in to the hospital in the morning to have her Echocardiogram...then I will have the rest of the day off:)

GOOD NIGHT LADIES (AND JIM)
PRAYERS FOR ALL

Costume Lady said...

Good, Margy! We will work around your schedule:)
Nite.

hedgie said...

Here we go again...food talk...cheese bread--yum!
Heading for tub and then to bed. Everyone have a good sleep. Blessings asked for all.

deb said...

Night all, I finished Dancing. Flooding is getting bad up north, lots of snow out west and we had severe thunderstorms in the southeast.

deb said...

They will not be surprised if Redoubt blows again, Wanda, so don't clean up the ash yet. I wish we could see if any of the top of the volcano is gone, but it is still covered with ash/clouds.

NatureNut said...

Nighty nite! Pleasant Eaglet Feather Dreams!
Margy, I liked your field trip!Reminds me to check the Bluebell area at Park. they grow along edge of little road/path to the Rural Museums. Know the little skunk cabbages start popping up in Jan. Haven't been in Nature Study Loop for awhile---always at boat ramps or nest after work looking for Big birds!☺ I'll have to do loop at lunch. We are supposed to take 1/2 break--we aren't paid for lunch, but I never do--always eat at desk & deal w/whatever.

paula eagleholic said...

I had brownies tonight, too.

I'll have the pea soup and some of that toasted cheese bread, too.

Margy - love doing everything online, banking, bills, etc.

Wanda - would love to go down to Loretta's - just don't make it a Thursday!

That's all from here tonight...went to son's tonight to deliver moving boxes, they are moving in a week!! Found out nice 3 bedroom house to rent in Cashtown...large yard...they are glad to get out of the townhouse...so packing and moving this weekend...short notice, but they have a bunch of stuff packed already...going to help them pack and move this weekend.

So that's really all...nite friends!

Hugs to all ♥

wvgal_dana said...

Very windy with rocking nest at NBG

Costume Lady said...

Yes, Norma, some wild flowers are OFF LIMITS. The Lady Slipper Orchid is an endangered species and very hard to find and grow (I found one once and it died almost immediately:( )

wvgal_dana said...

Good Eagleland Morning Norma and Wanda.

Now Norma if you went on that trip to Swinging Bridge you know you would have you own little garden shovel and bucket. lol Mums the word...

floralgirl said...

Morning all;)
No, no, peolple, do not dig wildflowers, many won't grow once you transplant them anyway, and they will disapear forever if everyone digs them up...enjoy them where mother nature planted them! ok, off my soapbox..

Costume Lady said...

I think if you go into an area that is a certain number of feet off the main road and it is not private property...you can gather wild flowers, just not endagered species. That use to be the law, I don't know about now. Gathering wild flowers use to be my favorite passtime. I love the wild ferns and have many of them.

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' MEGAN!----Thank you for your stand on the wild flowers!---

Costume Lady said...

You are right, Megan, about leaving the wild flowers for others to enjoy and that had always been my practice. If there was a large patch of flowers, I would take two and never if only a few. I told myself...I said "self" those flowers need to bre thinned out;)

floralgirl said...

Hello Norma:) Gotcha , Wanda, always leave some to grow...
And always ok to try to rescue them if the area is threatened with development.

MORNIN' SHARON!----I see the SUN is shining in BEAUTIFUL BLUEFIELD!!!---

wvgal_dana said...

Good Eagleland Morning Megan and Sharon.

Oh NO NO do not take the "Lady Slipper" please. I didn't mean the endanger ones...sorry should have explained.

I once had 5 acres and loved back then I could walk all the way down to the stream. All kinds of beautiful wild flowers. I just think the "Lady Slipper" was always a favorite of mine. Exquisite flower God planted.

wvgal_dana said...

Good Eagleland Morning Mits.

I was with a person once that took a "Lady Slipper". I was so saddened to watch it died. She did everything to keep it alive. That was a "fast trip to learning" not to take those flowers.

I did enjoy the once I had on the 5 acres. Seem like they were always near a fallen tree.

floralgirl said...

Hi Helen, Dana and of course, Hello Sissy and Sharon:)
Lady slippers do not transplant. When I lived in NH, they were all throught the woods, so beautiful.
Temps are warming up in GH- gonna go take cuttings, have a great day, the sun is shining here!

wvgal_dana said...

Mits did you find your Osprey links?

magpie said...

Regarding Lady's Slippers, Norma, do you mean the Pink Ones?

I have seen quite a lot of them, only one Yellow one, and never have seen the Showy Lady's Slipper, except in my Wildflower Books!
They all look about the same except in color but most books insist on calling the Pink ones Mocassin flowers :(

wvgal_dana said...

Both at our nest

magpie said...

Have a good friend who had them on his property and he invited me to take a few...still they were wild and I do agree, it is a no-no - but I did, and it was not successful, well the leaves came up but no flowers.

wvgal_dana said...

Poof no switch

magpie said...

Here is one thing I have noticed about development:

Wildflowers show up in some of the most unusual places! Due to the dirt and flowers/seeds/bulbs being "transplanted" so to speak...

That IS kind of cool....that's what I have noticed about Butterfly Weed in particular around here -

magpie said...

Love those feetie prints on the Finney Water nest snow !

magpie said...

Well shucks, it is Moccasin not Mocassin, kind of like the work Raccoon...or is it racoon ?

Good morning everyone! I slept late...9, 10 for most of you! Have read the paper and been watching cams.

Megan.......I love the bush cam, I have it up and running. Cool!

Need to go eat, have a lot to do today and I am really running behind, but that is okay! Just wanted to say "Good morning, and have a great day. 71 here, possible chance of thunder storms.

Well guess I am both glad and yet sad to see that others can not enjoy the live feed really at all this year. I don't open mine anymore either. I don't think this is bandwith when none of the regulars are even trying to watch. The forum that never sleeps isn't posting live videos to share either. I am very discouraged by not being able to enjoy the cam I learned to love so much.

I don't watch any of the other animal cams on any regular basis and so many have learned and share there pictures and videos from other eagle cams that with a little hunting etc we can all keep up on every eagle cam and the happenings there.

Nice weather is coming and I will be outdoors enjoying it not sitting here watching the cams, or reading every post ont he blog, as most don't really pertain to NCTC anymore anyway.

Eagle cams changed my life for several years and that was all great. Time for a different change in focus now but I will be around most likely daily and go places like each of you to see whats happening.

Still little ones busting out all over. It is an awesome time in the eagle world when we can see, hear and enjoy.

Off to the store now. And work tonight.

Enjoy your day.

Ok, now it is time for me to post about the cam I guess. I do keep mine up to watch whenever I am at the computer. It may not be a live feed at all times but I still get to see Hidey being fed and watch that long neck poke up out of the egg well. I guess I am just willing to watch whatever I can watch whenever I can watch it. This nest and these eagles have my heart and I am not going to give up on them until Steve and NCTC turns us off completely, although I pray that never happens. Like right now, I see Hidey peeking out from under the parent. That is priceless to me.
