An update from Lisa on the fish situation at BW:
I asked Bill Giese (our resident Blackwater expert at FWS) about the fish issue. Bill owns a farm on the Little Blackwater River and he's been with the FWS at the refuge forever, so I really trust him.
He said he believes there are plenty of gizzard shad and catfish for the birds, and he doesn't think that could be a factor in the light feeding we've seen on both cams.
He also said he thinks another osprey pair might take the platform since it's still early

Well, I know they are being fed some food, but for the age they are at now, they are not active, like our eaglets, so I'm STILL concerned...JMHO!
Wind has really picked up, so hum is barely noticeable.

I have been gone all day today again.
Remember that the Air Gaurd base is not too far from the nest so you may very well be hearing C-5 and C-130's coming in. And if you have never seen or heard one of them come in for a landing, trust me it is very loud.

Today I seem to be doing things in the house and slipping in the watch the eagles.
The planes I hear during the day are of the single engine kind, and the ones at night are high overhead, no loud aircraft.

Just got back from hoping to get a special hot dog and fries for a late lunch with my husband. Place closed. :( Guess I'll have to sit myself up in an eagle nest and eat some fish. :)

As soon as I came in I checked in on PH nest and #10 was up. I could see two beautifully whole eagle eggs there still, so no baby chick yet.
Sounds like we have a lot of food missles coming into the nest while I have been gone. I see they are busy eating everything in sight again now.

LOLLY I was thinking about how that nest must smell before I left with all the bones, skin and leftovers all in it. On second thought, I think I'll go make something for myself. :) The birds can have the nest.

Anyone see any more feedings at the BWE site at all this afternoon? I was so hoping like all the rest of you that mom and dad would continue to bring in food once they got the hang of it yesterday.

I have not seen parent at BW since this a.m. and did not see food brought in, guess they are back to the once every 3 day schedule

Oh geez, there goes Pecking Pearl. She is really a stinker. I think they should let her eat first each time so she gets full and goes to sleep. Then the other two can get their share in peace.

#2 generally has been doing the grab and duck, and avoiding the peck, put pecker got her this time.
I wish that other chick would stop being so submissive and give her a good peck back just once. Poor Little Bit has a wait. Oh oh, here she goes, getting up on the side right next to Pecking Pearl. Go Little Bit and box her out. She looks like she just got pecked on the head. Come on Little bit and push your way up there.

Oh oh, here comes the big bottom down on the little chicks. I wonder if Pecking Pearl minds her manners under the parent. They look like they are starting to settle down gladly. Time will tell.

tee-hee, no candles and he is not thrilled with what we are having for dinner, salmon cakes, with cream of celery soup over top, rice and stewed tomatoes, didn't feel like going to store, because will not be fixing dinner this weekend. Hi Jo, I was not at Park today. Work 2 days at our Div. Exhibit Office. BUT, it is a farm that was purchased by Park & Planning.It's called Chelsea for an old, historic nearby mansion. We have acres of fields w/treeline, woodsy breaks and are in a big brick house w/magnolia trees and a pond in back! Beautiful and no public swarming around. Work 2 days at Park---going tomorrow when it will be really cold & windy!But maybe I'll see some eagle action.
Naturenut-were the magnolia trees blooming? I know when we drove down towards Baltimore I saw some just starting to bloom.

are opening.Whats good about this place is we see deer, geese,hawks, etc. & foxes!!Last year was the first time we saw kits come out to play. I got pics last summer I might post, as they won't be around until May-June.
