Darn, seems the picture has stopped updating :(

MITS said...

did they take the flag down??

Jill said...

Rained awhile here cooled off. Mits it's coming your way.
No Nilla yet. Little worried but probably nothing.

paula eagleholic said...

No, the pic is updating, they are not moving

MITS said...

I hope it gets here, was hoping for Gabrielle to bring us some, but knew that storm wasn't going to amount to anything.

paula eagleholic said...

Yes they did, Mits. Good eye.

MITS said...

Do you think they are waiting for a pilot to come on board and take them out??? The little boat that was out in front is gone.

MITS said...

I have been putting my cursor on top of the flag pole to see if the boat moves

MITS said...

they seem to be moving...very slowly

paula eagleholic said...

Moving now.

paula eagleholic said...

Where did the antenna go??

paula eagleholic said...

Nevermind, it is still there, just hard to see against the waves.

MITS said...

golden sunset.

movin said...

GOOD NIGHT, EVERYONE/HOPING FOR A GREAT TOMORROW FOR YOU ALL....

JIM

MITS said...

It has just started to rain here:).

movin said...

Has anyone been able to see Anne-Marie?

There was a pair of Ravens this evening on the Santa Cruz overhead branches at the nest... Kind of hard to see because of the shimmering picture though.

Jim

MITS said...

I don't think there is any chance we will see her , Jim

movin said...

I thought it would be hard, Mits, but then I thought you might be able to see her waving while crossing that parking lot, or something.........

Jim

MITS said...

maybe when she gets to Sitka..

MITS said...

darkness coming fast now.

movin said...

I have to go and do some laundry, Mits. Good night.

Jim

MITS said...

Good night, Jim.

paula eagleholic said...

Dark for sure, time for bed!

Good night all.

Morning, Suz!

Suzanne said...

Good morning, eagle world. Warm out, but it's either raining, drizzling, or foggy depending on where you are. I came through all of them, and rain is not steady. It was 77 at home, 75 here at work, but kinda drizzling so not as muggy as yesterday. However... the day is still early!
Bai and Squiggles are still sleeping, only cam open at the moment.
All have a good eagle/panda day.
Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!

Suzanne said...

Oh, there are 2 falcons on the PA ledge! One on the nest box, one over by the round pillar! Wow, haven't seen 2 in quite a while, usually only see 1. Wonder if these are the parents still hanging around? Can see their shadows, but wish it was light. Except they usually take off when daylight arrives, guess they just roost here at night.
BW is MT.
Checked Anne's ship, Position: At Sea - bound for Sitka, Alaska! Lucky girl, can't wait to see some Alaskan scenery! Course it's the middle of the night and the cam is dark!

movin said...

GOOD MORNING, SUZANNE.

Got up, couldn't go back to sleep yet.

How's it going with you?

Jim

Suzanne said...

Good morning, Jim. Bit early for you, isn't it? Even Bai and Squiggles are sleeping. But nice out, and I'm here now, so things are going well! Hope you can go back to sleep eventually!

movin said...

The weather is good here too, Suz...about 64° on a clear night...a lot cooler and more pleasant for sleeping now than last week. Don't exactly know why I can't get back to sleep. Not too much action on the cams tonight...could look at the African watering holes though.

Supposed to rise to 86° this afternoon, which is getting uncomfortable, especially if you want to do any physical work.

Jim

Suzanne said...

Yes, I always end up soaked lately just from feeding and watering the birds! Humid here.
Bai can't sleep either, it seems. She's been rolling back and forth, and of course she takes Squiggles with her when she moves, so poor baby, he's not sleeping either.
It's getting daylight in Peggy's Cove, but they're not open yet, so can't people watch. And the windsurf bar in Bonaire is down.. showing a daylight pic, and it's the middle of the night there, like here and where you are.

movin said...

If you would like to see some Wart Hogs mud bathing, take a peek at Pete's Pond, Suzanne.

Jim

Suzanne said...

It's getting daylight in Bonaire, and the donkeys are up and waiting for breakfast. Looks like it rained in downtown Bonaire last night, puddles in the road.
I can't get the African cams here at work, what are you seeing there?

Suzanne said...

Well, ok, you answered my question before I asked it! Wart hogs. LOL, thanks, Jim. Wish I could get those cams!

Suzanne said...

Bai is on the move again, Squiggles is just squiggling...

Suzanne said...

Bai giving up on sleep, guess she'll nurse the little one, who by default, is also giving up on sleep. Oh look, there she goes, picking Squiggles up. She is so gentle! She's not wiggling her foot this time, she just put it out there. She usually wiggles her foot when she starts nursing.

movin said...

It's almost noon there, so it's a different crowd than usual.

Earlier, a lot of medium sized brown backed antelope come to the hole, and some large antelope too, and some Ostriches, which are also approaching the hole. They are all pretty skittish, because besides lions and leopards, there are crocs at Pete's also.

The Ostriches are approaching cautiously, but another group of the Wart Hogs have found the same small separated water hole (mostly separated, and I don't think the crocs could sneak in there)and are cooling down and caking the mud on to protect against biting flies. Hogs do not have sweat glands, so they use water or mud or both to cool.

Jim

movin said...

A medium sized elephant has just begun drinking and splashing.

Jim

movin said...

Now the rest of the females and the baby elephants have reached the water.

Jim

movin said...

They are wading, drinking and blowing water over their backs...they also love the cooling water and the protective mud and dust.

Jim

Suzanne said...

Oh how cool, this is exciting. I would love to see it, but love your commentary!

Suzanne said...

Bai is finished nursing, she gave Squiggles a couple licks, and down goes Bai back to sleep. The little one is sort of moving around under her tummy, Bai is curled around her. Guess she's not ready to go back to sleep now!
Or maybe she is...

Suzanne said...

Too funny, Bai just moved Squiggles up by her head and mouth, and Squiggles just moved back down by Bai's tummy...there goes Bai moving her again, now we're back by the head. This time Bai's gonna hold her there. Bai snuggling Squigs with her head, oh this is too cute. Seems the little one wants to move around, and mom wants to go back to sleep!

Suzanne said...

Believe it or not, there are still 2 falcons (I think) in PA. One on the bar, other still by the pole, but now I'm wondering if that really is a falcon by the pole. Have to wait to see if it gets lighter...

Suzanne said...

Getting daylight in Bonaire, and the windsurf cam is back up.

movin said...

I think the elephant family herd has moved off or been chased off, and now one or two large males have started drinking and blowing water. The males do not travel with the herd, except temporarily during the breeding season.

Jim

movin said...

No, there are still females and young there in a different area.

Jim

Suzanne said...

Oh, didn't know that. Thought the elephants always traveled together. So just mom and kids are one herd? Dads are their own herd, or individuals?

movin said...

The bulls travel alone or in two's sometimes, and the herds are all females and young (until the young males are old enough to head out).

There are several reasons for this, but I don't remember them too clearly now.

Jim

movin said...

They all love there water, their baths, and their dust baths though.

Jim

movin said...

They just departed in a herd with a bunch of trumpeting and carrying on.

I think a couple of reasons for separation of the sexes are the bulls get much larger and push there weight around whether it benefits the herd or not, and to avoid inbreeding the males leave the herd before they are old enough to breed. The females all stay with the herd for life.

If lions threaten, the females form a tight group of defense with their tusks pointing outward and the young are inside or partly under them...they can protect the herd, no problem.

Jim

Suzanne said...

Yes, I know they love their baths! I like watching them on Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel. Gets the parasites off them, at least temporarily!

Suzanne said...

EAGLE AT BW JIM!! Just arrived.

Suzanne said...

Beautiful sight, huh???

movin said...

Now they're showing a black and white King Fisher on a small branch blowing in the wind, and it's peering into the water looking for small fish.

Jim

Suzanne said...

Squawking at something! Well, he/she was...

Suzanne said...

Oh this is too cool. Being at BW and Africa. You're gonna have to get up early every morning, Jim!

Suzanne said...

Something must be flying around, there he goes yelling at the sky again!

Suzanne said...

Ok, I'm waiting for another eagle to show up/...

movin said...

I see it...beautiful. No fish though.

I think it's the male from the other day, and he seems to be looking toward the forest for the female.

I think I'll try for some more shut-eye, Suzanne.

Have a good day.

Jim

Suzanne said...

Well, crap. No other eagle showed up, this one took off. Well, isn't that just a bummer!

Suzanne said...

Ok, Jim, hope you can get some shuteye! Blog at you when you get up again, and thanks for the commentary from Africa!
Won't everybody be surprised when they get up!

movin said...

Haha, I think they probably went to catch breakfast. They might be back later.

Jim

Suzanne said...

Falcon still on nestbox in PA, and the ledge has puddles, they must have had rain last night or this morning.
Eagle has not returned, bummer.Bai and Squiggles still sleeping, Bai has her butt in the air, very wierd sleeping position. Oh, PA just refreshed and falcon is gone. Darn. Sun's coming up on the Bonaire cams, and Peggy's Cove is overcast.
Jim went back to bed, so no clue what the action is in Africa!

Robyn said...

Morning Suz, Jim pleasant surprise seeing you here this early or late for you :)

Rainy morning here, not sure how long it will last but it helps to keep me lazy.

I envy Anne right about now as she heads for Sitka. I saw the pics mom and dad brought back and the amount of bald eagles just hanging about. Wish I was there

Suzanne said...

Morning, Robyn. Is it raining now? I was outside about an hour ago, and it had stopped, but maybe it started again.
Yes, envy Anne, hope she's having a great time! Hope she sees tons of eagles and takes gazillions of photos with her new camera. I wonder if we'll be able to see any of the scenery around the boat when she gets to Sitka, I'd love to see that! Wouldn't it be cool if a few eagles flew by as they were landing?

Robyn said...

I keep looking for eagles but zilch.

Suzanne said...

There was one in the BW nest this morning, but he didn't stay very long.
HE'S BACK!!!! EAGLE IN BW.

Suzanne said...

Robyn, are you watching the eagle hanging out at BW???

Robyn said...

pop-up cam engaged LOL

Got him

Suzanne said...

LOL, ok!

Suzanne said...

Lots of fish on the reef cam, Robyn.

Robyn said...

I have both reef cams, up drinking my coffee wondering if I will get anything done today lol

Suzanne said...

Eagle still there just being regal! Looks like it's pouring on the PA falcon ledge. Well, guess I won't have to water tonight!
Bai and Squiggles still snoozing.
