Tuesday PM

Here's some relevant information from the Cooperative Extension System.

Usually, 2 (1 to 3) white or mottled brownish eggs are laid after nesting behavior begins. The eggs hatch after a 35- to 45-day incubation period. Both adults hunt and secure food for the young, with the female doing most of the incubating, feeding, and brooding. Young eagles become strong enough to tear meat apart by 50 days of age. They are fully feathered and ready to leave the nest 65 to 70 days after hatching. Although the young are as large as the adult birds at this time, their parents may continue to provide them with food and protection for as long as 3 months after they leave the nest.

Not all eagle eggs hatch, and the death rate of young eagles, as in other birds of prey, is high. Young eagles are antagonistic toward each other and the stronger often kills or causes the weaker to die of starvation. Losses due to exposure, diseases, parasites, and predation occur while the young are still in the nest. Up to 75% of the young eagles die during their first year due to starvation, disease, and causes directly or indirectly associated with humans.

I started once to go make sure she got back in his yard but didn't want to see him beating her. I don't know how he stands being around himself.

deb said...

I agree with Mits, turn him in Sharon. No one should beat a dog! Poor thing!

hedgie said...

And just where is the camera pointed, Sharon??? On your house?? I would report that, too! This guy (remember what I called him!?!) sounds like a real sick-o.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Yes, it is pointed at my house. I really try hard to stay out of his way and not raise any stink. He has tried to get me in trouble with animal control for letting my dogs out without being on a chain. They really don't bother anybody, just go potty and then back in the house.

movin said...

It's still light at Kent, the snow is mostly melted, and I'm kind of expecting the eagles to visit....

I am going to bed now. Wore slam out!! The morning light will bring us proof if there is a new eaglet. I am praying there is one.

paula eagleholic said...

Sharon, maybe you should put your camera in your window...

Mits said...

Sharon have any friends on the force that could lean on him....:)?

Mits said...

dualing cameras:)

deb said...

Jim, I hope they do come, I haven't seen them yet.

deb said...

LW has an eagle laying in the nest.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I really do need to come up with a game plan on him. We have lived up here 40+ years and then he is going to come in here and think he is going change everything. I just wish he would get a life outside of being concerned about what I am doing. Last I heard he was working at Burger King but don't think he is even doing that now, home all the time.

paula eagleholic said...

Hancock has another new eagle cam on...the Delta O.W.L. nest...has anyone posted that info yet?

I don't believe it's the same delta nest as last year

deb said...

I haven't seen it yet, Paula. LW eagle is up. I don't see an egg, but went right back down.

paula eagleholic said...

Eagle awake

Lolly said...

Sharon, I think you should put an obvious camera pointed in his direction.

deb said...

EAGLE UP

glo said...

Just signing in from work so I can post during night if I have anything relevant to say.

Good night once again. Oh also posted picture of when Lib stops by just before I left for work along with the hatch video.

Both eagles LW

deb said...

Beaking at LW.

Mits said...

was just watching that one today, Paula, and Judy's chart says end of month for LW to lay eggs

Lolly said...

Forgot to mention that I now have iris blooming. The oak trees are beginning to bust out. Spring is so wonderful!!

paula eagleholic said...

She's finally up...I see 3 eggs

Costume Lady said...

Hooray! We finally have a chicklet. Thank you so much, Glo for capturing the little sweetie:)

deb said...

So did I, but too slow to get a picture.

LW eagles gone. HI eagle gone.

Mits said...

so still just 3 eggs, thanks Deb and Paula:)

Mits said...

slowly looking up.

deb said...

Who knows, Mits, it sure looked like 3 eggs, but I didn't get a picture of it.

Costume Lady said...

I was so disappointed that I couldn't go with Lynn and Margy to visit Jo. GeeGee had a doctor appointment and, of course, she is my first priority. I'm taking her to the hospital Thursday for a brain scan (MRI).

glo said...

Well I got lots more than a picture. Actually got two videos with movement but I do agree the first one may or may not be eaglet movement. Second one is our little eaglet. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

The fish will start arriving tomorrow. I might even get to see a first feeding but I won't be able to tape it.

Its sad but to some degree a little understandable that we aren't all celebrating together but it is what it is.

Lolly said...

I guess we will get our answer in the morning.

deb said...

Glo, I watch it over and over. When it is little like it is posted on your page, it is an eaglet. When I enlarge it doing a screen zoom, it is a talon. It is so frustrating not to be able to get a better view.

deb said...

I put a picture on Deb' Pictures of what an ice storm can do to the birds. The picture was taken in Wakefield, NE, by a lady that belongs to NE Birds.

Lolly said...

Nite all!! Sweet dreams and may all our dreams of a little eaglet come true in the morning!

Costume Lady said...

I hope we get to see our little bashful chick being fed tomorrow...then we will know for sure if it is a babe or a foot:)

GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
SWEET DREAMS
PRAYERS FOR ALL

Mits said...

poor birds Deb:(

deb said...

You wonder how they live, don't you? She thinks that there are probably a lot that didn't, but it was too icy to leave home. I know the birds that came to my yard today, didn't look all that great--Robins and Starlings, but at least, they weren't covered in ice!

Mits said...

yes you do wonder.

Mits said...

Deb you video from tonight was egg-celent:)

hedgie said...

Cool pic, Deb!
Glo, hope you have a quiet night.
Wanda, email me and let me know what Dr. Bowers said.
See you all in the morning....can't wait for daylight!Prayers, blessings and peace.

deb said...

Head tucked in, I thought we might get an egg roll.

paula eagleholic said...

Here's my video when Belle was up a little while ago

Chick or not?

paula eagleholic said...

Belle is snoozing, I'm hitting the hay. We will have to see what the morning light brings!

Gnite, all.

Hugs to all ♥

Mits said...

don't see a chick on that video, just the egg with the black hole...that I have seen since last Friday.....JMHO!

deb said...

How frustrating is this! I see three eggs, darn it. I want an eaglet!

Mits, I forgot I even did that video-too much else going on.

deb said...

I am going to try for one more view before I head for bed.

Mits said...

that puppy looks like she is buzzing saws, really peaceful:)

deb said...

Yes, she does.

deb said...

From BRS:
Well, we now have our next two trips ready and locked in! Tomorrow I have a delivery (this load from Dallas), then tomorrow afternoon have a pick up and a delivery in the local Phoenix area (nice easy day but nice money for local hauls). Then pickup in Phoenix again on Thursday and head 1980 miles to....(?). We know, but you will have to check back in to find out! :)

deb said...

There is a new Mason update. he will be coming home the 19th, they are working very hard to have the construction done in time.

deb said...

Up and calling out!

deb said...

Back down. That was strange. I thought she was calling for a switch or something.

deb said...

Back up

deb said...

She didn't show much, saw two eggs, the rest was blocked by her body. Back down already.

deb said...

I give up, time for bed. I need to rest my eyes.

Yikes!
So maybe a hatchling? Best thing is to sleep so that morning gets here faster! Saw our girl moving around at midnight then
my computer was frozen up took forever to get thru comments and see videos and pix....
unstuck now, and Belle is all tucked up into herself...

Will be up watching for awhile...
I'm really glad I got Wednesday off now ☺

Sleep Soundly, Friends...
xo ♥

magpie said...

Whoa- Finney's Water nest got some heavy duty snow! I'll be watching for Talon Prints

magpie said...

Ma Belle was just awake...first I thought I saw three eggs, then I thought I saw two and a grey area, so maybe I saw eggs and egg pieces...but it all happened so fast!

She looked up at the branches to the left also then back into her feathers she went

movin said...

Well, I hope I get over whatever I have today too...I'm getting tired of resting up..... Hahaha.

Anyway, around 10 PDT, Belle got up, and she actually left the eggs very open to the camera, BUT they were on the edge of the glare! I could see two eggs for sure, but that is all I could see for sure.

Now I can hardly wait for daylight to see if they start feeding a chick or two....

Good Morning Eagleland
Sorry my first posted will be long since I was at Drs. yesterday.
Then a lot of errands and I needed to visit with my Mother.
So I was gone all day. Here are my comments from reading
the blog.

Yeah Metro Bus driver fired for in front of children punching
Officer Tyrone Hardy our McGruff Crime Dog!!!!! Now that is
justice!!!

Paula glad McGruff did not sock the guy because of the kids
and also then he too would be in the wrong. Like Mits said
"then McGruff would have been arrested".

Paula thank you for update on Milford Conn. nest of Kidd
and Lola Osprey.

Thanks Deb 2 eggs in Red Tail Hawk nest in Portland. Good!

Deb thanks for info of 3rd egg at Decorah Eagle Nest.

So Lynn and Margy were Jo's special guest coming. Thanks
for update on Jo...I know you gave her hugs from all of us.
Hedgie like you the information Steve gave us 35-45 days
for a hatch. Is longer time period that I know of too.
Good information..put also in favorities thanks Steve.

WANDA I have GeeGee in prayers. Hope MRI on Thursday
turns out ok.

Glo when watching your video I thought the movement
was a fuzzy chick too. Until later I see pictures
of 3 eggs. Also on AM of Wed. March 11th I seen
3 eggs when our eagle got up. I thank you very much
for the video. Keep video tapping and you'll get that
hatch!!!!!

What is going on in Alabama Paula???

**GOOD MORNING**

**EVERYONE**

I'm up early and perhaps temporarily, and I'm here to tell you it is driving everybody crazy this year.

I hope we can get clearer looks now that the sun is up. Has anyone seen a changing of the guard or a feeding of anything, including an alleged third egg??

Good Morning all. We can have 24 hours til a feeding although I htink lib is out finding the perfect whale right now. I won't be taping any hatches today as I will be going home to sleep soon.

Good luck on catching whatever it is you see when you see it. Guess we have seen everything from a "older strong chick with a beak, to Belles talons". We will know today, and if I was wrong well I am sorry for any unnecessary excitement.

NatureNut said...

Dana, some guy went nuts in AL & I think shot 9 people--some were family & friends.Prob news stories on internet provider. (I don't want to changs screens yet!!☺)

paula eagleholic said...

No Jim, no sign of a feeding or any movement near the eggs.

That's OK Glo, we all want to see a chick.

paula eagleholic said...

Jim, and if you'll read the blog, at 7:23am you will see comments about seeing all 3 eggs.

floralgirl said...

Hey Glo, if you were wrong, I think I can forgive you, after all, I first saw a chick on Friday...

movin said...

In that case, Paula, I've got to download some Microsoft updates, and turn the machine off for a bit. See you all later.

Even if we can't see much detail, and even if we want one to have hatched, if they aren't feeding a chick yet, they don't have a chick yet.

Norma, it's warm where you are and Spring is not far off. I think you could put out a Hummingbird feeder with a cup, or so, of nectar. If there are some early Hummers, they will appreciate your feeder, but if there aren't, what harm was done??
