Margy, I just made a folder in My Pictures in my 'puter to download the pics on this blog including the 2 crummy ones after birth I shot of the computer.(on this Blog) If you have clicked on the Blue prompts, you've seen them. I probably don't need to do this, as can always go to Atlanta sight & see most of them.

Sex of the cub: They waited with Buta Buta until Lun Lun actually went out of the den to eat and they grabbed the cub for her exam. But do you remember how long it took the SD Zoo to determine the sex of ZZ?
Forever! They really didn't know for sure even after quite a few exams...
I do remember Mei trying to go thru the small window in the door to get to Tai.....she did that for most of his exams, then calmed down after awile

My all-time favorite star cluster is Pleaides....the Seven Sisters, looks like a teeny tiny little dipper, comes out shortly after midnight now also in the East, North East. Anyone that has a Subaru, check the little bunch of stars in the grill...that's Pleaides! That's the kind of buggy I want next, unless American Motors comes out with another "Eagle."

Following nineteen hours of hand-rearing and subsequent reintroduction yesterday afternoon, both cub and Lun Lun are doing remarkably well. Lun Lun is demonstrating excellent maternal behavior. Staff has removed the cub from Lun Lun at 4 and 9 PM Tuesday and at 3 AM this morning for brief exams to ensure that he is doing well. Zoo Atlanta staff and our Chinese colleague have been very pleased that at each check the cub has gained weight and is maintaining his temperature. Our intention is to increase the time between these exams as our confidence grows in the cub's progress. While this is a more hands-on approach than we took with Mei Lan two years ago, we believe the manipulations are warranted given the problems that arose on Monday. Lun Lun has tolerated the cub's removal for these exams better than we expected. She does show some agitation when the cub is removed, but settles quickly when the keepers offer her water and sugar cane. She responds to the cub immediately when it's returned, cradling and nursing the cub without missing a beat.
We still do not have a clear idea of what caused the cub's sudden decline Monday afternoon, and in all likelihood, we will not know for sure. The last eighteen hours indicate that Lun Lun is producing enough milk and appropriately caring for the cub. The cub has also been vigorous in his vocalizations and has been suckling enough to continue to put on weight.
The cub started day 4 at a panda-typical 128 grams, adding an impressive 7% to his body weight since yesterday, but still small and fragile enough for it to take a few more days and weeks before we can relax.

We may be lucky enough to get an Eagle fix by checking out the BW Osprey cam until our cam is up/running. Sure hope Bob gets some blue ribbons when they judge the photos on Friday.

I see on Monday's comment some were talking about afterbirth and umbilical cord. I don't know but when you watch the birthing video. You do see the clear sticking shiny stuff on the baby cub. The light hits is and makes it look almost like aluminum foil one time in the video.

The one year Vicky came they needed a hotel. They followed us and sadly that nice hotel was full. We stayed with them and they did get accomadations elsewhere.
DANA - Comfort Inn Shepherdstown will be jiving with Momsters on Fri & Sat night! So far Helen, Ceil, MaryMargaret, Sharon, Beverly, Thelma, Anne Marie & brother & sil........ I may just need to go get a room to keep them under an EAGLE EYE! lol

I absolutley loved the train ride last year. I would go again in a heartbeat. It was more chance to be with some of the momsters I didn't get much time with at Rumneys. I did see soem eagles. And even saw one young flying beside the train but it happened so fast and I was on the wrong side to get the picture. I still have it in my minds eye thouhg. Take the train!!! I bought a picture on the train that has a very prominent spot in my living room.

MASON UPDATE
Today was the day Mason would get bone flap" put back. That is the portion of his skull they removed during his surgery early on, which seems like eons ago to us. However he has a little infection which elevates his temperature so they will postpone the procedure until they determine the source of infection. My Theresa at the Charles Town store says its a sidestep not a backwards step, always moving forward but not straight ahead. I'm in the stores today, Sylvia reports that Mason looks good, doesn't like it when she scratches the bottom of his feet, he actually jerks his knees up when she does that! This is good.

The Holiday Inn I mentioned is on Margy's (magpie) list of good hotels. I don't normally give out BAD hotel/motels for people to stay at.

So, how is everyone today? It is a beautiful but hot day in Bedford. I get to go to Lynchburg tomorrow to get my hair done. Can't wait!

It does look like the Loch G. Ospreys are in France, Anne-Marie, but according to the text, they're hanging near good fishing spots in the south of England until the weather clears.

I was tickled to see in juvies are hanging together at Catalina. I didnt know there were tours there. I would like to make a road trip out of it. How fun. Maybe in the spring.
