Hummers are migrating now and you will be getting many many more as they pass through. Here is a pic of one of my feeders a couple of years ago about this time of year as they migrated through North Alabama.

Red I just love that picture. For myself I have never seen that many hummingbirds at one time...WOW!!!

Red said...

In that photo it looks like it's at night but it was just at sundown and I think they were filling up for the night. My flash made it look darker than it really was.

Red said...

Also you'll notice they are all females as the males migrate first in the fall and spring.

Loretta is the first butterfly on "Butterfly Pavilion II". Is it a type of butterfly moth?

Red said...

I just called the Atlanta Zoo to donate bamboo but found they only go within a 60 mile radus. I live about 160 miles. Maybe I can sell fishing poles. lol

MITS said...

Jo, did you see the turtle shell in the nest????

Red said...

I was wondering what that was in the nest.

NatureNut said...

Dana, that first one, Malachite, is a butterfly.

BTW, I see a huge round blob near center of nest too. Have they been grocery shopping? There is a smaller round object that does look like a turtle shell.

MITS said...

down at 6 o'clock position, Red

MITS said...

don't know what that is at the top of the nest, but they were feeding on it earlier.

Morning all!!

hedgie said...

I was wondering the same thing as Wanda about your feathers, Sharon. They are unique!

wvgal_dana said...

Look at Finney on the water site

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I forgot to answer Wanda earlier, sorry! These feathers were sent to me in an email (there are a lot more than this) from Ozzie, my friend who turned me onto this wonderful site and in turn blessed me with all my eagle buddies!

floralgirl said...

Hey Norma- you have mail.
Has Red's cheesecake arrived yet? I have my plate ready...

hedgie said...

Thanks for pennant info, Mits. I either missed that offer, or maybe have jsut forgotten seeing it...I have absolutely no wall space left to hang anything! I do have a lovely tiffany-style lamp that has the Redskins shade...think it was Danbury.

hedgie said...

Red, what as great pic of your visitors!!

MITS said...

it probably was that company, Lynn.

wvgal_dana said...

Sharon doesn't Ozzie watch this site now?

hedgie said...

Sorry you won't be here for open house, Red! Sure would have been great to meet you!
Beautiful butterflies, Loretta!
Sharon, is Ozzie still a momster/dadster? Never heard that name here before!

movin said...

GOOD MORNING, YOU BIRDERS.

Have a good week.

[:~)]

Jim

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Lynn, he has come on here just occasionally but he is the one that sent me the link to the eagle cam in 2006. Don't think he has ever been a dadster!

NatureNut said...

Dana, checked my pics again (they don't load well here) and the first butterfly in the 2nd set is not the Malachite (green) but the black, white & blue. It is a butterfly but don't know it's common name.
To Wanda re: comment on meerkats---in the bottom right corner of rock is a meerkat playing in the sand. This blog makes pics appear a lot darker than normal.

ceil said...

Jim, If you are still here. I asked Lisa at Blackwater and she said that the flowers are tickseed sunflowers

Costume Lady said...

Sharon, I was hoping those feathers were for sale somewhere. I have Southwest decor in my living room and they would be a wonderful addition. Too bad :(

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Wanda, try here!

Costume Lady said...

LYNN, you mentioned an ill friend and her name was Maridel. Is she from Martinsburg? I used to know a Maridel Albright (I think that was her last name).

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Those look different than these though.

Costume Lady said...

SHARON, thank you so much. Guess what I want for Christmas?! Or, my birthday is sooner. LOL

MITS said...

I love Southwest decor:)

On the front page of our newspaper today. Is a picture/article of a gentleman that was drafted at age 18 into the service. What is exciting about the picture. Is the gentleman's name is Byrd. Where the picture is taken. Him and his wife are sitting on a couch. The wall behind them has all different pictures of birds. Different shapes and sizes of frames. The largest frame and picture in the center of all is a beautiful bald eagle. Neat huh...

floralgirl said...

They look like needlepoint pictures, very pretty. Maybe his wife made them.

Costume Lady said...

The feathers in the last link that you gave me, Sharon, absolutely take my breath away, I haven't checked out the prices yet. I'm afraid to. LOL

normabyrd said...

MEGAN---I not only have my plate ready----I have my FORK too!---ho!

Costume Lady said...

Gene's Grandmother made a quilt many years ago with each state and it's flower and bird. There were only 48 states at the time. It is so pretty and it was given to me when she died. I have never displayed it because I'm afraid something will happen to it. Silly, huh?

MITS said...

yikes, Wanda, hey Capt....we know what Wanda wants for her birthday.

PRICES: Unless otherwise stated, paintings are $250. All pieces are fully framed, triple-matted with acid-free mats, wire-hung, with UV glass. Framing size averages around 8 inches by 18 or 19 inches, and is cut to the proportions of each feather.

If you are in need of a commissioned feather without a frame, I'll only do those for active purpose such as smudging and healing. Otherwise, you're much better off to get the framed piece, as it will survive for decades protected behind glass.

MITS said...

Wanda, I still have some things my Mom made for me:), including a crochet red, white and blue vest made during the bicentennial year....no way I can fit in it..just can't give it away.

floralgirl said...

Darn, I thought she wanted a robo panda....

MITS said...

that is correct, she DOES want a ROBO-PANDA:)

wvgal_dana said...

Thanks Sharon I knew I recalled the name Ozzie.

Loretta they are ALL beautiful butterflies pictures!!

Megan you could be right about being needle point. I sent around an email with the link but the pic is so small. Still can recognize the Bald Eagle though. ( :

movin said...

I'm up and down, in and out today. I don't even know what I've been doing.

But I did get a chance to look at some cams, skim the comments on here etc.

Didn't see this link to what looks like a pretty encouraging report on Mason.

Hi all! Had a fun day yesterday celebrating Jacob's 4th birthday. all went well and we had fun. I was giving him a bath about 8:30, he looked up at me and said "Thank you Grandmommy for my presents". Melted my heart.

Today I had a luncheon, retired teachers. It was was very enjoyable. Always like seeing many friends.

Looks like I am still working as a hurricane Magnet. Ike is headed Texas way...we're supposed to go to the coast (down near Corpus this time) on Monday. Will have to wait and see what happens. Just paint a target on my back!

movin said...

Either Nethy and Dashar are liking the fishing where they are, or the weather in the Channel region is still bad, because they are both moving enough to tell they are alive but not enough to be called migration.

Actually, they won;t be coming back to the British Isles again for at least two years, so I guess there's no big hurry. Much better to be roosting in a fairly warm clime and feeding up than to be blown off course to who knows where.

MITS said...

Lolly maybe we should bring umbrellas to open house, just in case.:)

movin said...

Didn't see this one posted either:

When I signed on this morning I couldn't open the 30 sec cam page at all...don't know why. But it's working now, in case you were having troubles too.

hedgie said...

Yes, Wanda, that is the same Maridel! Isn't it a small world??

MITS said...

cam has been fine all day, Jim

Lolly said...

Oh, Mits!!!! I did not think that far ahead! Yes, bring your umbrellas, bungee cords, etc. And, I will apologize ahead of time for bringing a storm to you.

hedgie said...

Lolly, hopefully Ike will be long gone before Monday! Of course, if there is damage, that would change your plans. Hope it doesn't happen! Could veer off towards Mexico!

NatureNut said...

Wow, Lolly, Ike should be gone, but I understand shelling is wonderful after a storm!
Hope there' no big storms in Oct. at nest.
Visitor just came in who is looking for areas for hiking, fishing to bring his small grandchildren. He asked if we had snakeheads!!!! Not yet! As far as I've heard they've been in streams off the Potomac.

Red said...

Dana, You have email.

MITS said...

yes, Loretta they can be seen walking around DC too:) We that live here, call them politicians:)

hedgie said...

Helen, ROFLMHO!!! You are quick and clever!

NatureNut said...

Helen, so true!!!
Since hubby retired from US Senate, he won't set tire or foot in DC!

NatureNut said...

I have to do all my sightseeing by subway!!!

Got a Fall Hiking Spree going on thru Dec. 12 designated trails in many Parks in this county. One is here. If I can get a second wind, might try it after work--if not, then Sat.Path is pretty close to the eagle nest!!!If you complete 6 of the 12, you're eligible to get a small shield for your hiking stick.I don't use the stick---it's bigger than I am!
BBL

hedgie said...

Loretta, I take it hubby was NOT a pol!!! What did he do at the Senate? What...you don't drive in the city??? I really don't mind doing so...it's the getting there from here that's a pain! I still know my own old routes through DC very well...and it hasn't really changed TOO much since I did it all the time. But compared to most other cities, did you know that it has the most logical layout?

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Tom just heard where a 59-year-old woman in England just gave birth to triplets. Oh Lord, somebody just shoot me!!

Lolly said...

That means I would have three 5 year olds right now! Heaven forbid! I find it difficult to keep of with three grandsons!

You're sharp Mits! LOL

Yes, the hurricane should be gone by Monday, but depending on where it goes in there could be lots of flooding between our home and the coast where we are heading. It will be wait and see. Going to meet my sister there. They are from the Houston area, but are gone at the moment in their RV.

Loretta, Jack and I have hiking sticks that are covered with shields! We get try to get them everywhere we go and do at least a little hiking or maybe just a lot of walking. LOL

Lolly said...

Make that "we try to get". :)

floralgirl said...

That woman is gonna need a sitter..

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

That woman is gonna need VALIUM!!

Mema Jo said...

I think she should think about a different hubby!!!

Red said...

I'm staying out of this. lol

Lolly said...

Good one, Red! :)

hedgie said...

Well, she may need her head examined, but she will probably make a ton of money off the publicity so can hire plenty of help! Better her than me, LOL!!

hedgie said...

Of course, it is 99% certain that she had alot of hormone therapy and maybe in vitro!

MITS said...

A 59-year-old woman in France has given birth by Caesarean section to triplets, who are said to be in good health, according to the Paris hospital that is treating them.

"Everything went smoothly," a spokesman at the Cochin hospital told Agence France-Presse. He said the babies, two boys and a girl, were delivered Saturday night

The woman, who is married to a man in his 40s, reportedly went to a private Vietnamese clinic willing to overlook the age limit set at 45 for egg donation and in-vitro fertilization, AFP reported.

But like the 59-year-old woman, age limits have not stopped other women from seeking IVF overseas.

Earlier this year, a 70-year-old Indian woman gave birth to twins after receiving IVF treatment.

And in May 2007, Frieda Birnbaum, 60, gave birth to twin boys, becoming the oldest woman to give birth to twins in the United States.

Birnbaum told FOXNews.com she underwent IVF in 2006 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The twins were delivered at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, N.J., via Caesarean section.

hedgie said...

Make that 100%!!

MITS said...

lol...Lynn, hope she enjoyed herself in Vietnam:)

Monday, September 8
It was another good day and night for Lun Lun and cub. Rest came much as one might expect for a nursing mother – short-lived bouts of sleep interrupted by the occasional cub vocalizations. Lun Lun responds by cradling him closer or repositioning herself in order to keep her cub warm and comfortable. The cub is nursing well and gaining weight, and Lun Lun continues to appropriately attend to his needs.

Because of the excellent progress, the frequency of cub checks is being gradually reduced. At this morning’s 5 AM check, he weighed in at a hefty 208.1 grams; a gain of 16.6 grams in approximately 12 hours. As she has done before, Lun Lun took advantage of the break. However, once eating, drinking and other personal matters were out of the way, she exhibited great eagerness to return to the business of mothering.
Debbie Forde

there is an adorable pic of him on their page

hedgie said...

Awwww, isn't he cute???

MITS said...

would love to scoop him up and hug him:)

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Oh my gosh!! Is he the sweetest thing or what?? They said he is starting to get the black markings. I have written an email to them begging for a live feed of him and Lun again!! Please give us back the baby Panda!!

MITS said...

we begged them 2 years ago to give us audio......never happened

hedgie said...

BTW...Magpie found out she has to work a few more night shifts. Hope she is sleeping now!

ceil said...

I e-mailed them also Sissy and asked when they would put the cam back on Lun Lun and cub. No response.

Red said...

I'm calling it a day. I'll see y'all tomorrow.

MITS said...

see ya, Red.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Good night Red!!

Sharon emailed them this morning too. Maybe if we do it often enough, they will listen. (A girl's gotta have a dream :))

ceil said...

I know they tried 2 years ago to get changes but it did not happen. I am going to think positive.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

When I emailed Atlanta this morning, I was just asking for an explanation as to why they weren't doing that! Of course, I have not heard back yet either.

floralgirl said...

Are you saying that Atlanta does not have the cam on the new baby new panda? I am sooo confused..70 yr old women having babies..

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Yes, Megan, that is what we are saying! Cam on Buta and Yang Yang but not Lun Lun and little Luni!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

EAGLE ALERT - OUR NEST!

floralgirl said...

That is unbelievable.. Has it been that way since that night they took the cub for a while to feed it?

MITS said...

hmmm, just got my Delta airline weekly specials....only $69.00 to Atlanta.....maybe I just ought to fly down there

MITS said...

yes, Megan, since last Monday.

floralgirl said...

and that's why she is called Eagle eye! I was just in sheptown looking for them..

MITS said...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Yes, right after I saw the hand reach in and pick it up that night, they have yet to have the camera back on the baby!

Mema Jo said...

Thanks Eagle Eye for the pic. You click quick!
Sure wish she would come around again.

Would love to know what it is in the middle of our nest and even more so I would like to know what they are going to do with it!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Buta is sacked out on the edge of the trapeze thing she lays on. She looks so uncomfortable, but she must not be. Spends alot of time there.
