Good morning everyone. Gosh are we ever having a week of gorgeous weather here. I am so grateful!! Enjoy your day. I am off to a staff meeting AFTER coffee and dog treats.
Good morning, Magpie, Sharon, Sissy, Robyn and Norma. I have to wait another hour to see Good Morning America. Central Time Zone here in Alabama. But I'll be watching. Good to see Lib and Belle this morning. It's gonna be a good day. :)
Yes, Robyn, folks are saying the Winter months will be bad this year. We have ordered 2 cords of wood, in addition to fuel oil. Fuel oil is as bad as gasoline...we will have our thermostat down as low as possible.
I need to order my pellets and fire up the pellet stove, for the first time since I have been here 11 years my electric bill was double digits instead of triple lol, where is this global warming??
MORNIN' STEVE---MAGPIE---SISSY--SHARON---ROBYN---GLO---RED---WANDA & HELEN!!----If anyone watched any of the GMA show---you got to see some of the beautiful scenery in this area of WV---HARPERS FERRY is10 miles SE of SHEPHERDSTOWN---It is like walking back in time!!
I don't think I could handle 3 times Norma, I hope I make it through the one lol. Maybe if I was younger but approaching 50 soon (OK 6 years but soon enough lol)
Checked LUN LUN!----Isn't it amazing that those large panda bears are so agile---all those different positions they get into to keep little one warm!---aaaaaaaw!!
I just read yesterday's afternoon's blog---You folks were discussing PAW PAWS---when I was a kid--(many moons ago)---we visited my grandparents every summer!!---in central WV--paw paws grew wild there----I remember they were sweet & I thought they were good---NEVER NEVER take a bite of one that is not ripe---Your mouth will not 'unpucker' for a week!!! ------
RED---What kind of a winters do you folks usually have?----Everyone in this area is worrying like WANDA is!!---Lots of folks have been burning wood the last few years!!---I can't handle the smoke---I have electric heat---not cheap---
Our winters still get cold Norma. Probably not as cold as yours and we seldom have snow anymore. I think Electric heat is cheaper here now. I have Propane and it's sure expensive now. Electricity is as cheap here as anywhere in the country. We are on TVA.

Oh my goodness, Robyn. Gene use to have a girlfriend from Gretna. He spent a summer with his Aunt in New Orleans and somehow got connected with this girl, whose name he cannot remember.
Red, I thought about making it (I copied your receipe) but, I am really busy in the shop by mid-October and wouldn't have time. Maybe you can come in the Spring.
Leaving for the day. Tomorrow is my save gas day and I have 2 vet appointments for their annual physicals and shots. Be back Monday. All have a great weekend! Suz
Hi Everyone in Eagle/Panda Land!!! Good to see you Robyn. Your dog is beautiful! We've had 3 white dogs--last one a purebred Samoyed. He came as pup right before Xmas, so became a house dog!!!!! Outside w/coffe this AM & we heard/saw 3 hawks soaring WAY up high! squealy sounds Am on old 'puter & can't get Panda cam to run. Left the other one off, as I swear I am going to call the antivirus co. & try to get it debugged! Have a lovely day, Later ;>]
Good afternoon! Been a busy morning on the blog, I see! Hi, Robyn! Welcome "home"! Wanda, so glad you survived another night! Is Gene still looking for the slitherer???? Red, tried a persimmon a few years ago at the Daniel Boone memorial in Missouri....mom and sis loved them, but too bitter for me! Maybe it's an acquired taste...they'd had them many times before...lol!
Ingredients 3 cloves garlic, crushed 1 cup chopped green pimento stuffed olive 1 cup pitted and chopped black-ripe olive or kalamata olive 1/2 cup roasted sweet red pepper, chopped 1 cup olive oil 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar 1/3 lb salami 1/2 lb provolone cheese 1/2 lb mild cheese (such as Mozzarella) 1/3 lb mortadella cheese 1/3 lb prosciutto
Directions
1 Take one loaf fresh Italian bread (one big round for a traditional Muffaletta or individual sub loaves will do fine for smaller sandwiches). 2 Cut the loaf (or loaves) in half, and scoop out a little of the inside to make some room. 3Make the olive salad by combining the olives and roasted pepper, garlic and vinegar. 4 Drizzle some of the olive oil and juice from the olive salad on each side of the open loaf-- use plenty. 5 On the bottom, place some salami, olive salad, provolone, mild cheese, and mortadella. 6 Top with the other half loaf. 7 Wrap tightly with plastic wrap and set a heavy skillet on top of loaf or individual loaves. 8 Chill for 1 hour. 9 This helps compress for easier slicing and absorption of flavors. 10 Slice into wedges (or eat the individual loaves). 11 *The roasted red peppers are Italian-style, available at many Italian delis or in the ethnic aisle in the grocery store
Yum, Yum!! I love olives. Robyn, I'm in Forestville, MD, just outside of DC. Must be a different hawk group! These had very pale underside--probably red-shouldered.
Gonna try to work on other 'puter if I can get 'puter techie kitty out of the chair!
Hi, everyone. I was just going to let you know there was a TV at BWO, but it went bye-bye.
I am home to mow , empty car and head back for Janie's last night in SD until next year. We released Gabby yesterday and he soared so high, but he didn't land well. He injured both wings, not too badly, but bad enough that he is back in captivity. Poor little guy is not meant to be free, it seems, as this was the third time we released him to watch him crash land. He is probably going to be an educational bird since he is so quick to learn to follow directions. For now he is headed back to Idaho and Janie will see how he does there.
Good afternoon to all! Yet another gorgeous day! Hard to spend time indoors. We went and got our trailer out of storage. Leaving Monday for a week at the coast. Going to Pioneer RV park in Port Aransas. It has been a year since we have been out in the trailer. Then Oct. 14 we start heading your way!! Watch out here we come!
Love watching our baby Panda. I just love the way she cuddles him while rolling around. It's as if she can not hug him enough.
Just a short stop in to say Hello.. Watching the baby in Atlanta now.. well mom got him in her arms... Wanda do you have any mouse customs?? We meaning my daughter and Theresa and I bought tickets to Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party and since there are 3 of us we are dressing up as "The 3 Blind Mice" lol and searching for ideas... Got any???
Had to look it up too, Megan. I copied this from Wikipedia before I saw Robyn's recipe...has some interesting info.
The muffuletta (with numerous alternate spellings) is a type of Sicilian bread, as well as a sandwich in New Orleans, Louisiana, which is made with that bread. Like many of the foreign-influenced names found in New Orleans, the pronunciation of "muffuletta" has evolved from its phonetic forebear. Locals pronounce the word "muff-uh-LOT-uh." The proprietors of Central Grocery pronounce it "moo-foo-LET-ta."
The bread is a large, round, and somewhat flat loaf, around 10 inches (25 cm) across. It has a sturdy texture, and is described as being somewhat similar to focaccia.
The muffuletta sandwich originated in 1906 at Central Grocery, which was operated by Salvatore Lupo, a Sicilian immigrant. The sandwich is popular with city natives and visitors, and has been described as "one of the great sandwiches of the world."[1] Central Grocery still serves the sandwich using the original recipe. Other variations are served throughout the city. The locals have differing opinions on which shop serves the best muffuletta. The sandwich is so popular that it is served at Disney World's Riverside Resort Food Court. A typical muffuletta consists of one muffuletta loaf, split horizontally. The loaf is then covered with a marinated olive salad, then layers of capicola, salami, mortadella, emmentaler, and provolone. The sandwich is sometimes heated through to soften the provolone. [2] The size of the muffuletta is enough to feed more than one person, and many stores tend to sell quarter or half-muffulettas.
The olive salad is considered the heart of the sandwich, and consists primarily of olives, along with celery, cauliflower and carrot. The ingredients are combined, seasonings are added, covered in olive oil and allowed to combine for at least 24 hours. Prepared olive salad for muffulettas can also be bought by the jar in New Orleans grocery stores. Mayonnaise is never used on a muffuletta.
Mom is doing good. They are working on getting her off the ventilator in the next couple of days. My brother and I were able to "talk" with her last night for 2 hours. It was a little hard since she can't speak, but worth the effort to ease any of her fears and answer her questions.
Hmm...interesting, not sure I like olives, though. Glad to hear your Mom is doing a little better, Paula. I'm sure just having her kids there is reassuring.
Oh, Deb, so sorry about Gabby....too bad he'll never know freedom, but good that he's alive... and he will be happy w/ all the TLC he'll get! Hope his wings heal quickly. Hey, Nilla, how are you doing? Miss Vicki, Chrissy, Candy...where are you??
Well, Margy, sorry my wishes and prayers for a peaceful shift didn't help. Any word on the victim taken to Winchester? Sure glad I didn't have to get on 81!
NILLA, I have no mice costumes at this time. SUGGESTION: BUY GREY OR BLACK SWEAT PANTS AND SHIRTS; BUY SOME MOUSE EARS AND WEAR BLACK SUNGLASSES. VOILA! (use a piece of rope or heavy yarn for a tail)
Well thanks Wanda i thought the samething but just got a phone call from daughter who is at Micheals and seems now its changed to 3 Witches which might be better for us..lol The Mickeys Not So Scary Party is for kids but they encourage everyone to dress up... The park is closed and only those who have bought tickets to attend can enter.. But thanks any ways...
Nuts, missed the eagle. Was copy & pasting Muffaletta recipe to Word to print. Have to ask my daughter if she's had that. They used to live in Mobile before TX and went often to NO. Deb, so sorry about Gabby. If he heals well, could Janie release him next year? Dindin is done BBL
Thanks, Hedgie - I wasn't sure if new season started last week or next week. I'll probably go get my PJ's on and crawl in bed and watch it anyhow! Been a long day!
Yes, Wanda, finally got it all figured out!!! Bill gave up, but I kept at it...and finally got all connections right! Unfortunately I am a TV addict. I have the satellite, but also have antenna, so that if weather knocks out Sat. I can still get the regular channels. So Sat has the TiVo, and antenna has VCR...but I also need to VCR hooked up to the TiVo to copy things to send to my mom. And THEN w/ the digital conversion coming up in Feb. I had to get the converter box to convert the antenna signals to digital...I did so much diagramming and trying so many different hook-up combinations, but I finally did it right!!!
No such thing as cable where I live, Mits!! And cable co. says there never will be...even tho' it passes our development w/in 1/3 of a mile. Only way to get high-speed internet was sat, too...Verizon just laughed and said not in this lifetime!
Verizon laughed at us too when we asked when they would provide high speed internet here..even though I know people who have it just 30 minutes from here. They stopped laughing when I cancelled my phone contract with them. nite all.
Megan, the story Verizon told my friend, who lives w/in city limits, is that house has to be w/in 1500 ft. of their special box...and she was 1700 ft. away!
The first time I had a Muffaletta was in Nawlins, my cosin Sally took my ex and I to an eatery in the French Quarter, though I don't like olives I broke down and tried it, it was very good. I am not sure I would attempt to make one but it gives me an excuse to go back to Nawlins to see family and have a sandwich lol.
Naturenut, I have had the hawks overhead the past few days but very noisy today and yesterday, even had a falcon fly over my house today and she was also noisy as she went by.
We have an antenna also, Lynn. Depend on it when cable goes out, also. I guess it will do nothing when we have the conversion in Feb. I admire a woman who can figure electrical things out. Gene has always done those things and I had no interest in watching how it was done...so I am and electrical illiterate!
Maybe... I have been going down there since 1969 mom and dad would take us there for summer vacations to see family and I never heard nor had one until the early 90's
Wanda, just get your $40 coupons from the government at www.dtv2009.gov (up to 2 allowed per household) and the Magnavox converter is 49.99 at WalMart. Yes, Mits, FIOS sounds pretty neat! Nite, Megan!
Night to all who are leaving---hope Mom is better, Paula. Coworkers who live near our Park will never get cable. One family had to get satellite $$$$$. Gonna watch ER--missed this one. It's not the same w/some characters missing. Wonder how long it will last?
OMG Wanda YES!! Pascal Manalli's has the best BBQ Shrimp, they leave the heads on them too but they are so good there is no problem pulling the heads off lol.
Before we would be seated dad would always have oysters from their oyster bar near the entrance.
YES...That's it! I love that place. It is so quaint. It still has the tobacca trough that the folks used to spit in many years ago. We always buy a container of the shrimp and put in the freezer and bring it home. Very good warmed over. They give you so much sauce that there is enough to make your own BBQ shrimp. Didn't get any when we were there in February.
I like watching the morning break in Finland too, sure comes along more slowly now that's for sure!
I checked on the White Stork nest last night, and saw a pretty little green offering in the middle of the nest, and never even realized that Loony Larry was keeping a diary of the Loonies out in MN....so much to keep track of!
xo Good Night, I think most are beginning to disappear...

OK Jo you should see it now
Yes Red, a little bit cajun, my family has been in Thibodaux since 1790 I still have family down there mostly in the west bank, Gretna
Oh my goodness, Robyn. Gene use to have a girlfriend from Gretna. He spent a summer with his Aunt in New Orleans and somehow got connected with this girl, whose name he cannot remember.
Red, I have heard that Robyn is a very good cook. You and she will have to trade receipes.
CAJUN cooking is very intersting.
Wanda, The recipe for my cheesecake came from a Cajun recipe book that I picked up when I lived there.. "River Road" recipes
Sure wish someone would make that cheesecake and bring it to the open house. Sorry I can't make it.
Hummm...Cajun Cheesecake. Red, are you sure you can't make it to Open House? LOL
Wanda, mom use to spend her summers in New Orleans down in the Garden District with family when she was a teen.
Red, I thought about making it (I copied your receipe) but, I am really busy in the shop by mid-October and wouldn't have time. Maybe you can come in the Spring.
Though I am not a big olive fan those Muffaletta sandwiches are really yummy.
GOOD GRIEF, Robyn, your Mom is probably Gene's age. Maybe it was she who Gene dated!
I would love to chat with you folks all day, but costumes are needing wrinkles removed today. BBL
LOL< I don't know , she did stay with her Aunt and Uncle but I believe the Garden District is on the otherside of the river from Gretna

Hey, Nilla, how are you doing?
Miss Vicki, Chrissy, Candy...where are you??
Wow! Just got back on 'puter after techie phone maintenance & BABYLANTA was in pretty good view sleeping w/Lun. Think she covered him w/front leg now.
Eagle alert our nest!!!
EAGLE ALERT
LOOKS LIKE lIB
GONE:(
Liberty is gone.
Thank you for the visit!!
Maybe he will come back with Belle
Just in time to miss Lib! Argh!!!
Will they hunker down in the nest during the winter, or just keep doing nestorations and sleep elsewhere?
usually sleep elsewhere, Lynn
Lynn, you have mail.
So guess that means that an aerie is only for reproduction purposes, huh?
pretty much:)
Wonder if they cuddle together for warmth when they roost?
I bet they do, at least I'd like to think that:)
Nuts, missed the eagle. Was copy & pasting Muffaletta recipe to Word to print. Have to ask my daughter if she's had that. They used to live in Mobile before TX and went often to NO.
Deb, so sorry about Gabby. If he heals well, could Janie release him next year?
Dindin is done BBL
feeding time in Atlanta:)
Thanks, Helen, for sending it!!
I kept waiting and waiting at AOL, and then thought "aha! check Yahoo", and there it was waiting!!! LOL.
your welcome:)
I think that is the only address I have for you
I'll send you an e-mail w/ the other one!!
okie dokie;)
Nice, but short glimpse of ISS here, once it got about 1/4 up the horizon, it dimmed and disappeared...more viewings the next few days in this area...
We are really a quiet group tonight. Maybe everyone is out looking at the ISS or anything else that my be moving in the Heavens.
Yep, Wanda - - Mema left to go do errands at 11:49 and I haven't "seen" her since....musta been a loooooooong list of errands.
Beautiful night out....
Hope everyone is doing okay....
**REMEMBER: Wear Red on Friday for the Military **
xo
Time for some bubbles and shampoo...
TTFN xo
ER is on tonight...YAY
Wanda - Where are all your Pizza pics and others?
I didn't lose my way I just got
diverted and forgot what I was going to do next. lol
Good Evening Eagleland friends.
I can't keep track of your work schedule and of your quickie panda naps Margie! Thanks for all the pics you send me!!
WVU MOUNTAINEERS @ COLORADO...
Don't think I can tear Capt. Gene away from the game to watch ER. Not a good game. EEEEERRRRRS are loosing 14-7 :(
What Pizza Pics, Jo?
Paula, sorry but it's not a new one! New season starts next week.
Lynn, how are you and your new TV getting along? Have you mastered it yet?
Thanks, Hedgie - I wasn't sure if new season started last week or next week. I'll probably go get my PJ's on and crawl in bed and watch it anyhow! Been a long day!
Looks like Jo, did a Hit and Run.
LOL, Wanda!
Night all, prayers being said for everyone's needs.
I think Jo went to the loo...
Nite, Paula...sleep and rest well. Prayers for you and your Mom.
Night, Paula. Hope tomorrow is another good day for your mom.
jeez, I basically have a regular TV, with regular cable:(
No such thing as cable where I live, Mits!! And cable co. says there never will be...even tho' it passes our development w/in 1/3 of a mile. Only way to get high-speed internet was sat, too...Verizon just laughed and said not in this lifetime!
No water or sewer, either! Which is fine with me!! Like my free well-water and septic!
Verizon laughed at us too when we asked when they would provide high speed internet here..even though I know people who have it just 30 minutes from here. They stopped laughing when I cancelled my phone contract with them. nite all.
wow...Lynn, all in all, guess I am lucky....:)
nite..Megan.
Megan, the story Verizon told my friend, who lives w/in city limits, is that house has to be w/in 1500 ft. of their special box...and she was 1700 ft. away!
I have one of those Verizon boxes right across the street from me, maybe I should try their FIOS
Hi Paula, how are you?
The first time I had a Muffaletta was in Nawlins, my cosin Sally took my ex and I to an eatery in the French Quarter, though I don't like olives I broke down and tried it, it was very good. I am not sure I would attempt to make one but it gives me an excuse to go back to Nawlins to see family and have a sandwich lol.
Naturenut, I have had the hawks overhead the past few days but very noisy today and yesterday, even had a falcon fly over my house today and she was also noisy as she went by.
Helen did you see the interview tonight?
We have an antenna also, Lynn. Depend on it when cable goes out, also. I guess it will do nothing when we have the conversion in Feb.
I admire a woman who can figure electrical things out. Gene has always done those things and I had no interest in watching how it was done...so I am and electrical illiterate!
I missed it, Robyn.....bet we had the sandwich at the same place in the French Quarter
I'm catching up on laundry tonight...and it is really windy here...
Wanda...that means you're only paying 9.99 out of pocket, btw!
Have you ever had Bar B Q Shrimp at Pascal Manalli's? To dye for!
Night to all who are leaving---hope Mom is better, Paula.
Coworkers who live near our Park will never get cable. One family had to get satellite $$$$$.
Gonna watch ER--missed this one. It's not the same w/some characters missing. Wonder how long it will last?
Die for****
Lynn, thanks for that tip. I knew nothing about that converter box.
this is going to be ER's last season:(
OMG Wanda YES!! Pascal Manalli's has the best BBQ Shrimp, they leave the heads on them too but they are so good there is no problem pulling the heads off lol.
Before we would be seated dad would always have oysters from their oyster bar near the entrance.
Last time I ate there was in 92 when I met mom and dad down there for Mardi Gras. I was still living in NY and mom and dad were living in Florida
You are very welcome, Miss Wanda!!! Night, Loretta!
I remember asking for the recipe but they said No
Hi Everyone...Golly! I am getting awfully hungry reading this Blog!
Just opened up the Finney Land nest, and it says "Nesting Season is Over and Camera has been Removed."
It was FUN while it lasted...no more little Wheatears for us, or ravens, or Sea Eagles....
xox
Margy, seems like it would be easier for them just to turn the cam off! Bummer!!
ROFLMBO Wanda
I think I didn't get lost
I think I just lost my mind!!!!
CRAB LEGS PICS!
The one of you and Gene
You two were kissing!
Robyn, Gene tried umpteen times to duplicate their receipe, but to no avail. What he makes is very good, but not even close to Manalli's
It's worth opening up that Finney site though because there is a fabulous picture of two Ospreys on a fog-shrouded nest....way cool !
OK, Jo. I know what you are talking about now. I removed all those photos and put them in an album (a tangible album). Making room for some new ones.
I read too fast - I thought at first you meant they took away our
Ferry Boats & Sail Boats & Sea Eagles
LITTLE LUNNEY
IS ALL ALONE IN THE HAY
OK Jo, I stuck the photo back on just for you. Also, check out the two photos below that one.
*****ON WANDA'S WISHES*******
Margy, you have email!
Starting to get light at Finney's over water.
I love watching the morning dawn at the Finland over the water nest
Me, too, Helen.
nice that they put the goodbyes in English too, Margy
Sure hope they don't take that cam down! It is probably my favorite from overseas, then the black storks!
Bath time. See all of you fowl friends tomorrow. Sleep tight. Prayers for all.
Lynn, they usually keep it up all winter, but the days are really short over there.
But not me quite yet....
Good Night Lynn...sleep tight.
Gene makes BBQ Shrimp? I may need to judge this and see if how good they are, nudge nudge :)
Robyn, he does them in a skillet and I have no idea what he puts on them, but they are good.
