Good morning! Thanks Steve. Ceil our visit this morning was very short, one refresh and they were gone. Morning Robyn and Sharon!

Costume Lady said...

GOOD MORNING, Sharon, Ceil and Robyn. I got up too late and missed the visit.

Costume Lady said...

Good Morning, Sissy...I didn't see you there.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Panda breakfast in DC. Lot of loving happening in Atlanta.

Red said...

Good Friday morning Ceil, Sharon, Robyn, Sissy and Wanda. I missed our eagles this morning too. Sounds like spring at my house this morning. Got a mocking bird thats in love sounds like. lol

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Mocking birds are devil birds, Red. We had one outside of our camper when we went to the Outer Banks the last time. That thing kept us up all night. Sounded like a billion birds outside my bed every night.

MITS said...

Good morning everyone!!!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Good morning, Mits! How is the beach this morning? It is beautiful here in the mountains.

Red said...

Yes Sissy, They will sing all night in the spring.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Them bears are rasslin in DC.

MITS said...

Sissy, we have coastal flooding warnings today and waves of 8 feet, sunny, but windy.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

wish i was a panda

ceil said...

Good morning, Sharon, Robyn Sissy,Wanda Red and my baby sister,
Those bears sure are rasslin.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Mits, is there a storm out there somewhere?

MITS said...

love watching them, interact, just makes me nervous, Mei can be such a bully

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

When she is done playing, she makes no bones about it, does she?

MITS said...

not a storm, Sissy, just high pressure to the north and lower pressure to the south and the moon and gradients and all kind of weather stuff coming together...produces coastal flooding, high rip currents and stuff like that...it was awesome yesterday, and bingo, totally different today, that's why I love living here

MITS said...

EAGLE AT BWO

Good morning to you all! It is another beautiful day here, going to be in the 80's again.

Costume Lady said...

Deb, is this the end of your adventure, or will you have a chance to participate again at another time?

Costume Lady said...

NORMA, the EEEEEERRRRRRs let us down, once again. What's up with that?

deb said...

Loretta asked if Gabby could be released again next summer. That is always a hope, but as of now it doesn't look good. He was rescued 3 times and came from the nest sick. In the wild he would not have survived any of those things, so maybe he wasn't intended to be free, maybe he was found to teach kids, hunters and fisherman.

MITS said...

I think that will be a nice life for Gabby.

deb said...

It is a three year project, so I will be back again. I am hoping to go to Idaho to meet the birds that Janie has and, of course, Gabby and Beauty are high on my list. Mary, another volunteer, and I have been talking about going. I am booked pretty solid through January though.

ceil said...

Deb, Sorry Gabby will not go free. But thank heavens for this project and people like you. You have enjoyed and it has helped the Gabby's. Thanks.

Robyn said...

I have posted a few photos of Virginia Beach trip. If you have never been in a tunnel that goes under a body of water, this is interesting. I would love to see a documentary of how they do that. My first time going through there was a bit frightening. (Wanda's Wishes)

magpie said...

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Wanda, my daddy was telling us how they did that one time. I think they floated the tunnels out there and sunk them, then pumped the water out somehow. Would be a good one for "How Did They Do That?", huh.

magpie said...

Maybe I will learn how to do Blue Thingy someday...one of these years...

TTFN - got to get ready for the day and find some RED duds...

xo Good Safe Happy Day to all....

Costume Lady said...

We have seen those turkeys for at least a year now, and my hope was to see them bring some of their babies to feed and the deer also, but nothing doing. :(

normabyrd said...

WOW!--MAGPIE!---I think one could say there is a 'herd' of turkeys at PA site!!----TURKEY season will be here soon----

magpie said...

It's a nice little site, Sissy - during the bulk of the daytime you might not see too much, but early morning and late evening, and middle of the night....
Plus there are some nice links and photo galleries...
crows and blue jays and squirrels too, AND - I saw a CAT there last Sunday - I will send you the pic...

magpie said...

I've not seen the babies either, WANDA - guess they might be pretty protective of them until they get their "Sea Legs.." going to check you VA Beach pics then off here for a bit...

xo HI NORMA!

Costume Lady said...

Yup, Sissy, that would be a good "How did they do that". It is mind boggeling to me. How do they displace all that water? Gene said they went under the water where there is soil and dug the tunnnel. I hate to doubt him, but I don't know about that!

normabyrd said...

Yesterday, we were able to obtain another round of measurements on the cub. His body (from tip of nose to the base of his tail) has increased to 23 cm, and his tail adds an additional 5.7 cm, giving him a total body length of 28.7 cm. His neck girth is now up to 13.7 cm, while his chest girth is 19.8 cm. His belly had the biggest gain overall, adding 6.8 cm in a week and a half, giving him a belly girth of 23.3 cm.

This morning he weighed 589.6 grams.

That is what I found about building the bridge tunnel.

normabyrd said...

EAGLE at BWO site!

Red said...

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is an exception to most underwater tunnels as this explains:

In summary, the tunnel structure consists of prefabricated composite structural steel and reinforced concrete tube sections 37 feet in diameter and 300 feet long, sunk into place in a prepared trench in the seabed and covered with a minimum of 10 feet of selective backfill material, and connected together and finished inside. The portals of the tunnels are anchored on man-made islands constructed in 35 to 45 feet of water, and these islands provide a transition from the trestle roadway to the tunnel tubes. Each of the four islands is approximately 1,500 feet long and 230 feet wide at the channel end, providing about 5.5 acres of real estate at a cost of about 5 million in 1964 dollars. The general surface of the islands is 30 feet above the average high tide water level. Heavy riprap armor stones of 10 to 25 tons each, protect each island from sea action.

Costume Lady said...

I will never take it for granite again, when I go into a tunnel. It is an AWSOME structural piece of work. Think about the tunnels into a mountain. Some real doozies out west.

Red said...

Tunnel under Mobile Bay in South Alabama on Interstate 10 was dug in the soil beneath the water. It's about a mile long.

Red said...

There's several good sized tunnels in Pennsylvania too.

normabyrd said...

RED!---Thanks for the info!---BOGGLES my mind to even think about it!!-----when kids were small we used to go to OC (bridge) or VA beach (tunnel)-----they did not like the tunnel!!

I have posted a photo of a tunnel in Utah (I think), that was very long and I got a bit closterphobic. It was a lot longer than the Hampton tunnel. We do take so much for granted and have no idea what goes into the making of it. It's a Wonderful World we live in!

Hello everyone. Every time we travel south, we go through the East River Mountain Tunnel and the Big Walker Mountain Tunnel. I do remember the days of driving across those mountains to get anywhere from here.

Yes, Paula, do take care of yourself. When my Mom had her last bout with cancer, I was so concerned with her well-being that I didn't take care of myself. I tended to her for about 6 months, mainly making sure she ate properly and took her meds. When she go well and was able to take care of herself. I nearly collapsed, physically and mentaly.

Heart was beating so fast, I couldn't go back to sleep!

MITS said...

yes, I remember that too. Sharon...now wonder who that was;)?

movin said...

Hahaha. Wanda, your story reminds me of something that happened to me in my late teens.

Living in the country just outside of Del Mar. One night I got home late, very tired, and I slipped into the rack between the cool, clean sheets, and I was stretching this way and that, enjoying the cool sheets and relaxing the muscles all over my body.

Slid my arm slowly under my pillow, relaxing my shoulder ...

All of a sudden my arm touched something cold and slithery!!!!

SNAKE!! My brain told me, and I jumped straight up out of that bed and onto my feet in one motion!

Well, my brain wasn't too far off. When my heart slowed to about 150, I pulled back the pillow, and there was a largish snake lizard. That's what we called them...I guess many people call them alligator lizards.

Didn't know snake lizards liked clean, cool sheets too...damn!!

Hi everyone, I am back home and caught up on the blog. I had checked Wanda's pictures when she was talking about the bridges and saw the lidocaine snake and wondered what on earth is that!!

Jane and Gabby are headed to Idaho and her camper is stored for the next 10 months.

hedgie said...

Hi gang! Been ROFLMBO reading thru' the blogs...Wanda, think you should have put Lidey on Wild and Wonderful page!! But, since you thought it WAS a snake, we are to assume that Capt. Gene hasn't captured the slitherer yet, huh????
Lolly, have a great trip.
Deb, after today you will have to settle down to a normal routine again!
Mits, please don't blow away!!!
I can't say that I've been afraid of the tunnels, but when I see movies about fires or leaks in them, it does make me a little leery. Biggest pain is having to stop and turn off gas in the RV before entering, and then back on after coming out (our refrig ran off of gas).

hedgie said...

Jim, never heard of an alligator/snake lizard....what are they? Definitely not something you want in your bed!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Lynn, I have known a few of those too, but not necessarily in my bed! :)

hedgie said...

I put a picture of Baldy, Jr. up on my page (3 1/2 years). I was kayaking on Tuesday and saw an eagle up the channel in a tree. I went back for my camera and got pretty close to him (or her). He is getting ready to take off in the picture. Today when we went to load up Gabby, he was in the tree right in front of the tower, but guess who left her camera at home. :(

floralgirl said...

Ewww....you guys are freaking me out- snakes in the house,ugh.. outside in the garden is fine..as long as we stay out of each others way. Now I am outside doing an awful job- GH has to be recovered and before I can do that, the old plastic has to come off-but before it will, the gazillion staples holding it down must be removed..my poor hand, I've got blisters on my blisters.. and I lifted a piece of plastic and there was a long piece of black rubber on the ground,.and of course I thought it was a snake cause somebody keeps talking about them...

movin said...

I also looked the lizard up again in Wikipedia... it is the Southern Alligator Lizard I encountered that night.

I forgot to tell you, when opening a bed for the night, I still pull the covers way back and look under the pillows...........

Here's the link to the lizard.

Jim, I am using needle nose pliers, and my hand has blisters from tugging staples out..now I will have to look under my pillow before I lay down tonite..could be a lidocaine snake or a snake lizard...

It is kind of a cute lizard, Jim, but not when you find it in your bed!! Outside would be fun, though.

floralgirl said...

Eww., Jim, I would have screamed my freaking head off if I found that under my pillow, back outside to see if I've gotten every staple out- then a strong tug, and hopefully plastic will slide off frame..SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.........

I don't mind snakes, except the poisonous ones....so, here's my snake story.

When I was 15 or so, my brother was in a High School AP Biology class. His teacher had all sorts of animals that needed babysitting over the summer. So we kept some of them down in the basement. Snakes, lizards, geckos, turtles, salamanders, and mice I think. They had a really cool ball python named Cleo. I used to wrap her over my shoulders, like a stole, and go get ice cream from the Good Humor man when he came into the neighborhood ringing his bell. Certainly made him look twice!

ceil said...

Paula, I live in a row house and the boy next door had all sorts of snakes, spiders etc. One of the snakes got out years ago but when I go down my basement I still think that one of these days it will show up. I will drop dead.
