Good morning everyone. Cloudy gloomy day here. Looks like everyone from Maine to Lollyland (Texas) is getting rain today. I called the Atlanta zoo yesteday to donate bamboo thats overriding my yard thanks to a not so smart neighbor, but I'm too far away for them.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

AND NOW 2 AGAIN! Doing nestorations!

MITS said...

yes Red, remember you telling us about that yesterday...I bet all the zoos get calls from people who want to get rid of their bamboo or their neighbors', but it can't be run of the mill bamboo for the Giant Pandas in captivity

MITS said...

they are old pros at this:)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Lovely greenery!

MITS said...

Lib is the romantic guy, bringing her leaves.

MITS said...

gone and back:)

Red said...

What I have is not the run of the mill bamboo Helen. This is the real stuff and I probably have enough to fill a big truck but I realize there has to be a limit on how far they can go to get it. I just didn't know what their limit was.

MITS said...

What species is it, RED?

MITS said...

have a great Tuesday everyone....got things to do:)

floralgirl said...

Please keep rootng for Mason's recovery- the latest update-Mason and Sylvia are supposed to be on their way to Bryn Mawr within the hour!!!!!!!!!!! We know hospital time and I'll feel better once they are actually on the road. I'm going to Balmore to pack and be on my way up to Bryn Mawr.

They are very excited to get Mason, they have had some successes with young people that are musicians such as Mason. We can't wait to get started.

He squeezedmy hand on Sunday too after the girls left. He answered yes to questions I asked him. He did this three times, he didn't squeeze hard but it was enough for me. Thank you to everybody. We love you all.

Syl and Brian and the rest of us. Mel, Bridg, Pat, Garms, Sacco and Maybelle.

Red said...

I'm not sure of the species since I didn't plant it and am not into botany. I do know it's not the wild species that grows along our creek and river banks. This stuff is probably 30 - 40 feet tall and 3" in diameter and has roots that reach probably 30 feet into my yard.

Mema Jo said...

What a good morning it is! The news about Mason is so very encouraging

Rain hasn't reached the valley yet. Another fabulous pic from Sharon of our Royal couple! Whoo Hoo!
Thanks!

Lolly said...

Good morning...and yes, it is a beautiful day!!!

You're right RED, rain here in Lollyland. LOL We got about a half inch and maybe more to come. You can hear my yard soaking it up!

However, another armadillo came digging last night. Ahhhhh!!!!!!! Makes me so mad! Been out with the hose (in the sprinkling rain) filling in the holes and trying to get the roots of the grass down in.

I think our stream attracts them. I know I do not have more worms and grubs than our neighbors.

Ike is barreling towards us. Evacuees will be starting up our way. Shelters start opening tomorrow, I think. If it hits where we are planning to go, Port Aransas (near Corpus, I think we will have to postpone our trip. Sure hope it doesn't hit Padre, they are still making repairs from the last hurricane that hit.

We're watching the weather channel!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Thanks for that Red. I hadn't seen the new pic or update yet! Little black eyes and ears are coming right along! Little Luney is quite a beautiful little feller!

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' LOLLY!---I think the ARMADILIOS must smell your home made bread & sausage!---ho!---Good to see you folks again---I hope IKE goes away--PERIOD!!--& takes your ARMADILIOS with him!!

Red said...

We are starting to get Armadillo's in North Alabama now. I didn't know they were such a problem.

NatureNut said...

Happy Tuesday Everyone. Home today--swapped work days.Got to install annual anti-virus on old machine & maybe call about glitches in this one. At least this Co. allows phone calls.Hope I'm not on it all day!
We're getting more rain, too, then clear for a couple days & more Fri & Sat.
Saw one of our hummers today, think the other girl may be gone.
Love that tiny panda!!!
GREAT news about Mason! Prayers for him & Paula's family.

Lolly said...

Now that is a great idea!! Hurricane blowing away armadillos!

Yes, Red, they are a real menace! If they take a liking to your yard they can really plow it up! I have been in tears some mornings when I have seen what they had done during the night. I really do not like this, neither does Jack, but he has shot two this summer. He goes out about 4 AM. We tried traps, but that does not work. First they are hard to trap, but second, you don't want to get a skunk in a trap, and that is what happened to us!

Red said...

Where in Texas do you live. My oldest brother used to live between Dallas and Ft. Worth (Arlington) but now lives in Amarillo.

hedgie said...

Good afternoon all. Oon hold at the moment for a conference call that may or may not be happening at this rate!!! Rainy day in the eastern panhandle, too!
Glad to hear that Mason is heading to Bryn Mawr...it's a good place.
Great update on Lun Lun's baby...so cute..look at that little paw by his face...looks like the claws are well-formed. Probably like little needles!!

hedgie said...

Nice to see our adults..nest is looking good, despite the rains! Jo's "shell" looks almost like a dark brain!!

normabyrd said...

HI HEDGIE----I had a Dr's appt. today in Winchester---It has been pouring heavy rain here since early am---Thunder & Lighting too!---So I called & cancelled until next Mon.----I have to go over those mts. where there is always fog!----Now it is clearing some & I wish I hadn't cancelled!!---ho!
(i am a born loser)---ho!

Nest Update

09/09/08:
Good news from the Highland Foundation for Wildlife -- Morven, the female adult osprey they've been tracking, has made it safely from Scotland to Africa.
from LISA at BWO

MITS said...

great pic of the eagles on today's blog opening, Sharon.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Yeah, I am famous! :)

hedgie said...

Good news about Morven.
Norma, is Rt. 50 (the long and winding road) still the main route to Romney???? Some things never change...lol. Just as well that you stayed home safe and sound...fog is terrible in the mountains, and so dangerous.
Red, I spent most of my formative years in VA (just outside DC where I was born--which of course we southerners know was a southern city when "The Great War" broke out!!) and when I moved to WV, people made fun of MY accent!!

hedgie said...

Conference call lasted until almost 2:30...now have to write up minutes to distribute to the retirees club. BBL!

movin said...

I'm having some problems with "freeze up" this morning, mostly with AOL; so I'm spending a lot of time not getting too much accomplished....

Good updates on Mason; Lisa's migrating Scottish Osprey; Loch Garten eyasses; and on the little Panda cub (look how long their tails are at birth!).

Here's a link to some Q & A's at the Frodocam site (one of the Q's from me).

You've got to see this clip, which was taken from the PBS program on ZZ (Squiggles), which began on Sept 7th.

It's really great, and it is just a short clip; so if you get a chance to watch the whole thing on PBS, go for it.

I had to click on the lower arrow to start the thing.

Red said...

NatureNut said...

Strange???? My pop-up's still OK. Stayed on Comments, just minimized. Now I'll leave it up.

Can't be thunderstorms---all gone & don't think there were any in AL!?

Lolly said...

Red, we are in the DFW area. We are south of Fort Worth. Know Arlington well, was just there to go to Toys R Us to purchase a birthday present for Grandson #1.

deb said...

I see the eagle at BWO, but I can't open our cam page. Is it a problem for anyone else?

I got caught up on e-mails, but not on blog. I stayed in Yankton Sunday and Monday nights and am glad to be home.

deb said...

Forgot to post my comments, so I see the answer to my question!

Costume Lady said...

GOOD EVENING EVERYONE...
My pop-up cam is working Ok now, also. This morning, at about 6:30ish, I saw what I thought was one of our eagles, during the next refresh, cam went black. When it finally came back on, the eagle was gone. The cam did the black screen thing off and on for a long time and my 'puter kept losing it's internet connection. Gave up and got busy in the shop.

MITS said...

ok I'm back in business with the pop-up cam, maybe it has been during that all day, when I was not hear.

Red said...

I couldn't get to the web site either when you had problems earlier. I think the site went down temporaily.

MITS said...

yeah Red , it was trying to tell me something about no connection, but sometimes I just like to ignore my computer, it has a mind of its own .

Red said...

Thats the message I got too.

MITS said...

:), hate it when that happens

MITS said...

2 EAGLES AT BWO:)

MITS said...

JUST CHECKED MINE TOO AND IT IS BACK UP.

magpie said...

Wonder what inspires the Eagles to just pop in like that for a few glorious moments..think they know we need a FIX ??

Mema Jo said...

Don't know the reason but for the past seasons, once the kids leave they are there early morning and late evening before dark.

wvgal_dana said...

This has been such a wonderful day. Raining and shopping with a friend and laughter. Was so much fun!! lol and I hate shopping ....

Then cleaned out my computer.....nice a clean inside now. Needed a dusting....

Awwwwwww then what does my wondering eyes should appear. Not reindeer before me eyes but our nest had an eagle. All I was doing was checking computer out. After putting back together. What a WONDERFUL SURPRISE!!!

We went to Roanoke this morning. Tom had to have an MRI and they got us in today so we didn't have to make another trip. Will get the results tomorrow but it is looking like probably another back surgery. This will be 4!!!

wvgal_dana said...

Wow Bev 4 surgeries on back ouch!! :( So sorry for Tom....I only know of a few people that back surgery had worked. One was a Doctor. His surgery worked well. Hope Tom will be ok..will keep you both in prayer.

wvgal_dana said...

Got it on too Margy one in nest egg there. Is that an Osprey egg that didn't hatch?

magpie said...

Yes, Dana, and it has stayed intact throughout the season....
touching, isn't it...
Several of the Osprey nests have been like that, including one in Scotland....

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Good evening all my lovely eagle buddies. I missed this evening's visit live but fortunately I have wonderful buds out there to send me pics! It is definitely a "we" thing around here!

wvgal_dana said...

Margy did you hear of an accident or something that happened on 81 this evening? North bound after you would get on from Lowes & McDonalds.

magpie said...

Howdy to you too Sharon...
Only one tonight, and he or she did not stay around very long...those "in the know" (and that's never me...) think it was Liberty...
Have a Good Evening...
xo

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Magpie, you keep coming back and you will learn who is who - at least sometimes!

wvgal_dana said...

Margy it was earlier than this evening. It was my fist trip to town. I guessing after 12 noon till about 1 ish??

hedgie said...

Hi gang!
Bev, so sorry about Tom. Maybe MRI will prove otherwise! Prayers. Need to get out the map!! How far is Bluefield from Roanoke?
Dana, I had turned down scanner while on a conference call early afternoon, and didn't hear anything. Of course, MArgy was in bed and she doesn't have a scanner at home--that would be like a busman's holiday!!

magpie said...

DANA -
I was sleeping, and learned a few years back that I must not listen to the scanner when I am not working...I used to when I was still running ambulance calls, but that ended a few years ago. Wrecks on the interstate can be pandemonium! Everyone with a cell phone calls, and people passing through from other states have NO IDEA where they really are so it is tough to get an accurate report of where an accident is...I'll find out when I clock in at midnight, but I reckon it will be on the news before I get back on the Blog in the morning... I hope it was not too serious...too much of that lately.

magpie said...

SHARON: I have trust in your confidence in me.....and I will surely keep coming back !

magpie said...

HEDGIE AND DANA: I do have a pager that at least would let me listen to the initial dispatch, but I ONLY KEEP THAT ON when I am ON CALL and then I keep it on ALERT so it will only go off if they call me...yes, years ago I found that it was 24-hours a day immersed in it, so I had to make a change....getting old I guess, lose the excitement....

Take Care... time to pack lunch soon. Sigh.......

magpie said...

I'm not really meaning to sound like I'm complaining about night shift. Truth is, I am sorry my co-worker is ill...and, I will be getting an 8-hour head start on my days off come Thursday morning
at 8 am...

hedgie said...

Wasted alot of time this evening watching a bid on eBay....and lost out. Boo...
And computer has been a bear today...don't know whether it was the weather or not...argh!!!
Have a headache from the combination of many frustrations. So...will try to check yahoo mail and then shutting it down for the night.
Sleep well, everyone. And Margy, hope you have a quiet night.
God Bless.

magpie said...

Headaches: WOOF, Lynn.. I have had a bunch of them in the last week..

Good Night Feather and Fur Friends... I'm heading out soon.
