Hi all. Death of Paul Newman is top news today. Too bad.
The very first time I came to Martinsburg back in '70 there was a marquee sign on the downtown hotel that said WELCOME PAUL NEWMAN...I said to my afianced "yeah, right, don't they wish!" He then informed me that Paul came to race at Summit Point. LOL!!! City girl was put in her place!
Going to movies this afternoon (rare event for me!) w/ my youngest to see "Nights in Rodanthe". Read the book--have read all of his books! They say the movie is a 'must have tissues' film. Wonder if Candy is going to see it? Rodanthe not too far from her.
Raining here again. We need it, but it is getting kind of depressing!
Candy has 1 week to go for her son's wedding, think we will hear from her after next Saturday....

Eagles at the nest!
Well, I'm sure that some of you have observed the recent activity at the nest. Notable early this morning. Often during this time of year there is an increased activity near raptor nests. This is thought to be triggered by the particular photo period (day length) -- similar to that in the spring -- which is known to stimulate singing in songbirds during the fall and protection of nest sites and nest activity by raptors in the fall. Hopefully this pair will keep up the good work and reinforce their nest structure to endure winter storms.

Deb I have done the Susan Komen walk for about 10 years but it is the same weekend as the Open House. Our aunt (mom's sister) was 36 when she died of breast cancer in 1957. Doctor said cure was just around the corner. Thank God they have made good advancements.
Off to Molly's party and it is raining cats and dogs.

Ceil, this is the first South Dakota race. South Dakota is a brand new chapter of Susan G. Komen. I did the 60 mile walk once in CA with my sister, niece and some friends. It was an incredible experience, in spite of the blisters! Tomorrow is just a 5K walk.

Movie was good...think I am always a bit disappointed w/ films that I see after reading the book. Early dinner was good. For you local gals...if you like Mexican...the new place Las Trancas by the mall (where El Ranchero used to be, which never impressed me) is very good. Nice decor and atmosphere and food was yummy. I had a crab, shrimp and cheese quesadilla.
Flash flood warnings up in some locations. Raining really hard here, and have heard thunder a few times. If out on the roads, be careful! Margy may have a busy night! I-81 was shut down for a wreck a little while ago.

Yes, Dana, it was on the news. MD State Police medevac...pilot, EMT and paramedic killed along w/ female teenage patient; another female teenage patient in critical condition. They had been in a wreck. Crash was sometime after 1am, but it took 2 hrs. for the site to be found because of the fog and rain.
The park is, I think, Walker Regional Park in Forestville, near Andrews AF Base... a 400+ acre park...do you recall Loretta ever mentioning the name?
I found an article on it...what you told me above it better and sad information. I don't remember her saying. She certainly could have. Maybe someone else will remember Loretta saying.

Radio report my hubby heard was that because of the fog, the helicopter was looking for a place to land and then it crashed. So don't know if they chose that spot to land or not.Front part of park that you can see from Walker Mill Rd. IS a huge open ballfield. Right up that road are houses on both sides for miles.
Park I work at is Patuxent River Park in Upper Marlboro, MD. 2000 acres--LARGE open field there was the first Afro-Am. owned airport in pre-WW II days. It is about 12 miles from where I live.
