Actually, Paula, my picuture is Mozart. She was dearest to my heart. I saw Tiny picking at the nest earlier. I guess he was after scraps then. It's only the second time today that I've seen the babies eat. I was worried that Tiny would fall out of the nest trying to reach around mom/dad for the meal.

Wow, what a cool pic of Lib and Belle and the nest in the Sycamore tree. Beautiful! Thanks, Steve!
Good morning, world. One more day to go. Later in the week it gets, the harder it is to get up. But really nice out, 55° in PA, and 61° here. I almost don't need a jacket! That's saying something.
Our kids are sleeping under spidey's web. Very wierd pic this morning, think one of his legs is curled up on top right of cam. Or a meal he caught in the web that is slowly covering the cam. Ugh. BW kids are sleeping, BWO MT. One of these days I'm gonna see an osprey in there, I just know it.
Both Finland nests has ospreys in the house. Jackdaw nest is dark, so dad must be standing in the entrance blocking the sun. Doesn't he know we want to see???? Wonder woman, Isle(?) is on her eggs. Darn, thought I'd remember... yeah, that's gonna happen. Guess I better go find out their real names and write them down.
All have a great eagle/panda day. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly! One of the BW kids is awake and strolling around the nest. Other one is trying to sleep, so the one awake is now trying to wake the other one. "I want to play, wake up...."

Suzanne said...

I almost forgot, Megan! I kept your wreath with the berries on the front door thinking the birds would eat the berries. Well, they ate most of them, but my door is blocked and a pain to get open, so the wreath is still there. Last night I went and took my trash out for pickup, and scared a bird! Don't know who was more scared, her or me. Anyway, I have somthing nesting in your wreath! Tiny little thing, have no idea what it is! Couldn't get a good look, and can't see how many eggs, it's too tall for me and I don't want to scare her off. She flew off when I took out the trash, but came back. I did manage to (quietly) get to the door from the inside and open a blind and peek, but then she turned around and saw the blind slat open and flew off again. I left her then, don't want to disturb her. But good grief, door is on a main stree, constantly busy, trash pickup once a week, paper delivery daily, she couldn't have picked a more public spot! So now I'm waiting to see if I can see the babies when they hatch.

And anyone, I saw the most beautiful bird last night at one of my feeders and absolutely NO IDEA what it is. I've never seen one before. It flew to my finch feeders with cracked sunflowers in the metal screen feeder. Two gold finches were eating there at the time, and this guy flew in, landed on the little tray and started eating. The other birds did not bother it, and gold finches don't like to share too much. Tried to look it up, but the only truely blue bird I could find was somekind of bluebird (or finch) from way out west. Looked like bird lived on the CA coast only. It was the most beautiful blue, and didn't have a red or russet chest like bluebirds. Gonna have to see if I can find it. it was about the same size as the finches, dark blue on head/back/ wings, and had black or dark grey with off white stripes on his wings when folded. His chest and tummy and face was just a shade or two lighter blue than his back. Absolutely beautiful.

And my cardinal couple have eggs! Or an egg, not sure how many. But they are taking turns eating, and they come very early now! They're right there with all the birds, 4-5ish, and only 1 at a time. They had a baby last year and brought her to the feeders. So very cool to watch dad feed mom who would feed baby. Dad never did feed baby, that's obviously mom's job!

Suzanne said...

One of our chicks is awake, got the glowing eye thing going on.

Suzanne said...

OMG, I do believe the BW chicks are being fed! How bout that! Our kids are still sleepig, and haven't seen Lib or Belle this morning.

Suzanne said...

Be still my heart! Both parents in BWE and both have fish! Hope both kids get some, too!!

floralgirl said...

Morning, Suzanne:) those wreaths sure don't look appealing to me right now, but apparently the birds can't resist them. The wreath the wrens built in is right by my front door, where we all park and constsantly walk by. And of course the male sits across the driveway and hollers at us whenever we walk past the nest. THe eggs should start to hatch any day now.

Athenaa said...

Mornin' Suzanne!!! I am off today....(dancin' a lil' dance) and I can watch the birds all day long!! OH SUZANNE!! I bet you have an indigo bunting!! I have one too.....sings a song like a robin that had lessons...

Athenaa said...

Hey there FG!! How do your flowers grow?? My roses look soooo good....you know the first ones are the best ones.....

Athenaa said...

How come I can't see de babies? Must be some kind of cam prob...oh well...(still dancin' around like a goof). Your blue bird could also be a blue grosbeak Suzanne....beautiful bird! I've never seen one in person but I have just in the last couple of days had an indigo bunting at my feeder and it was quite a thrill..

Suzanne said...

Morning, Megan and Athenaa! Megan, wreath is in the shade, no sun whatsoever on my front porch, and it doesn't really look bad! No berries left, but the wreath looks good. And somebody likes it. I'll try to keep an eye out and listen inside for little peeps. That's exciting. Don't know when she built the nest, and no idea how many eggs.
Athenaa, I've been wondering where you were. How was your company a while back??? Gone now, so that's probably a good thing. But I've missed your bacon!
I'm gonna go look up Indigo Bunting! Sure was a beautiful bird, and hope to see him again!

Suzanne said...

OMG, Athenaa, that's it! That's the bird I saw last night! Absolutely beautiful blue, and I saw the male. Females kinda look like sparrows, I'll have to pay more attention to see if I have a female too. But he was just breathtaking! So very very blue. But yup, thanks for telling me. I've never seen one there. How cool!!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Good morning everyone! I had a rose-breasted grosbeak yesterday. My sister had her first hummingbird. I am still waiting on my little indigo buntings to come back! They are beautiful birds.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

LIVE FEED IS UP!

Suzanne said...

Well, darn, just read the Wikipedia description. They migrate during the night, using the stars to navigate. So guess he was just on his way through. But they are monogamous, so his mate was probably around and I just didn't see her. He was so striking, saw him flying in, so that was nice. Oh wow, I've never seen one before.

Suzanne said...

Morning, Sharon. I sure enjoy watching these birds at my house. I never saw one till last night!

Athenaa said...

Oh Suzanne...I am so glad mah company is gone! Sweetheart and I have the house to ourselves again which is always good. We are really enjoying this empty nest deal.
It's really cool that you got your first indigo bunting when I did. I also had a rose breasted grosbeak ..which is gorgeous ...but they were only passing through.
Anybody for bacon....got some going now....I'll get the grits going and maybe some biscuits with some of mah pear preserves on them ...sigh...I'm hungry now.....

Athenaa said...

GOOD Morning Sharon! You got the grosbeak too?? He'll prolly stay at your house if you are north of GA ..sniffle...they were only passing through here though.....
Had breakfast Sharon??

Athenaa said...

I'll be back in just a few...gotta get Sweetheart some breakfast so he can go to work. I'll get busy on those biscuits too!

Suzanne said...

Athenaa, I'm grinning at you being so happy company is gone. I know how you feel!!! If your indigo bunting has been there for a couple days, maybe mine will stick around for a few days. I'm gonna watch tonight to see if I can see him again. Look for his mate, too

Belle just arrived to feed the kids, and they mobbed her! They're walking now, look out Belle and Lib! I think both our BW kids got some bites, but mom ate most of both fish, pig! But BW chicks are alone at the moment. Oh, wing flaps, BW.

floralgirl said...

Hello Athenaa- flowers are growing great thanks- HEllo Sharon:) Indigo buntings are so beautiful, we had a pair last year and they stayed around for a long time. This time of the year you will see many birds that are migrating and passing by your yard. But the buntings might stick around, you never know.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I am having a hard time hearing the doctor's dictation through the eaglet noises. Guess I had better turn one of them down (I am guessing proably the eaglet one)!! :)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I had buntings last year for a long time so they probably will stick around a while. Right now I have houe sparrows, cardinals, rufous-sided towhee, blue jays, grackles, and mourning doves out here. Also have robins nesting across the street and they keep chasing the blue jays away from the tree. Last year, the blue jays had a nest in that tree. Hope that lovely hawk stays away today and finds somewhere else to get food!

Athenaa said...

Are our babies having some kind of bird for breakfast? Looks as though it's getting plucked......so glad I don't have to pluck mah breakfast...

Costume Lady said...

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE...
The smell of biscuits baking woke me up. I just knew Athenaa was on here. LOL

Suzanne said...

LOL, since breakfast is at your house, I'm glad you don't have to pluck it too, Athenaa!
I hope the bunting stays around for a while, he's absolutely beautiful. I'm gonna be watching out for him now! Maybe more will arrive, how cool would that be?
You have quite a few birds, Sharon. I've got a gazillion finches, gold, purple and house, sparrows, mourning doves, crappy cow birds, starlings, (but they're not too bad, they eat the wet cat food the cats wont eat!), blue jays, cardinals, grackels, black birds. The usual, I guess. Nothing exotic. No clue what is nesting in my front door, can't see it too well, and it's very tiny. Larger than a hummer, quite a bit, but smaller than a finch. If I ever get a good look at it, I'll let you all know.

floralgirl said...

Our buntings stayed for a long time last year, I haven't seen any yet- I have lots of bluebirds- and I am waiting for the catbirds who should be arriving any day now- they will do battle with the mockingbird for territory -they always do and they usually win.

Suzanne said...

Morning, Wanda! I was waiting for the bacon!!
Now I am hungry, gonna go find something to eat.

Athenaa said...

Costume Lady!!! So good to see you! I fixed you TWO biscuits....one with bacon and the other with pear preserves....ENJOY!

floralgirl said...

Morning Wanda:) Oh, who said bacon??? now I am starving...

floralgirl said...

Looks like breakfast is over at the nest.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Becky is going to get me a sausage and egg biscuit from Hardees for breakfast!

Athenaa said...

Here ya go Suzanne....I fixed you two biscuits this AM too.....I put a lil' extra bacon on the side too sugah...

Athenaa said...

Boy those chicks were hungry weren't they? They could hardly wait for their breakfast to be plucked!! LOL

Athenaa said...

Sharon...there's some more biscuits for you here too....have some??

Costume Lady said...

Megan, my Karla saw her first Hummer yesterday also. She was so thrilled, she had to call me. She was never interested in the birds until she moved up on the mountain. There are so many beautiful birds up there, that she can't help but get interested in them. She has feeders all over the place.

Athenaa said...

Suzanne make sure you go to a site where you can HEAR what the indigo bunting sounds like. Their song is rather unique in the yard so you know when they are around....finding them though...that's not easy. The male is so dark that he blends in with the woods...and the female of course...well she's so well camouflaged.

floralgirl said...

Wanda, I've been looking for days, set my huge red salvia right outside the door of GH, hung out a feeder, and then just saw him by accident, he was way out in the pine trees on the edge of my yard. I heard him first, then found him chasing a songbird.

Don't have a sound card in this machine, but from reading this morning everyone says they have a unique call. I'll try to see him again and listen.
Morning, Norma. Yup love all the different birds everyone has on here! And the ones we can watch too!
Finland nest, osprey has been in and out all morning, mostly in. Both jackdaw parents have been in the nest quite a bit this morning also. Can't tell if she has more than 2 eggs yet, though.
Osprey was in Finney's nest earlier when I brought it up, but then left and hasn't returned.
Norma, turkeys are in PA. And our wonder woman Isle or her hubby have been on the eggs all day. Kinda looks like they're sitting in the rain and getting soaked!

floralgirl said...

Well, hello Norma:) Adult just flew back into nest.

normabyrd said...

Suzanne said...

And there went the one that was on the eggs, just flew out over the Loch. Belle is back, kids are watching her intently! Switch on the jackdaws too, and osprey left in Finland. Oh, dad was on the eggs in Scotland, cause this is mom and she's steady talking! Oh, turning eggs so gently, that is amazing to watch with those huge talons all curled in.

Athenaa said...

You are so welcome Suzanne...
Norma ....you need to come to mah house I have the best birding yard in the world. I love to go bird watching in different places....but I never see so many different kinds as I do in mah backyard. Good Morning all dear ones, can you believe our little bobble heads are SO BIG. Credit goes to our parents. This is our last week of classes, and next week is finals week and the next week I get to watch live feed (when its up) ALL DAY LONG if I choose to do so. Until then, I will continue to lurk. Have a blessed day today, dear friends, and I will be praying for all those in need, especially at our appointed time. Have a beautiful eagle eaglet watching day. It is the day the Lord hath made and I continue to rejoice and be glad in it. your friend donna

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I have a squirrel going up the shepherd's hook to get to the bird feeder. This will be interesting to watch. He keeps sliding back down. Now he is just sitting on top. He just reached down and pulled up the chain to the suet feeder and fell right off.

Costume Lady said...

MISS NORMA, you probably have Buntings in your area, but, it is like Athenaa said, they blend in so well with the ground and woods that they are hard to see. Ours stay on the ground most of the time. They are a sight to behold. They are an irridescent blue...too beautliful for words.

Suzanne said...

Sounds good, Athenaa! But I liked my biscuits.
Norma, have to work. I miss blogging and watching, but got a lot done last few days. Still have lots more to do, but nothing is quite on fire today, so no fires to put out. Hum, makes a nice change! Norma, you still can't get into Finney's site????
Athenaa, not sure what the kids had for breakfast, or what those leftovers are! Anybody with live cam, can you see leftovers better?

normabyrd said...

normabyrd said...

SUZANNE---I just wanted to hear about GYPSY'S BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!

Costume Lady said...

SHARON, my Mom had a big time problem with squirrels climbing her feeder and emptying it out. So she put some kind of sticky-greasy substance on the pole and it did keep the squirrels off but it was the most gross looking mess you ever saw! After a few days, it had bugs, seeds, poop shoot, and dirt all over it. She had to throw it away.

floralgirl said...

Well, I bet if you show up at Athenaa's with a bag of birdseed, she'll let you in:) Off to plant, and to watch the birds. Have a great day everybody, it is another beautiful one here.

Athenaa said...

Well you have to know Norma that mah last company was mah mother in law. NO she's not my favorite company fer sure! But a fellow bird watcher...COME ON!! We'd have a ball!

Athenaa said...

Have fun FG!!!

Suzanne said...

Norma, the birthday party was for Gypsy's children! She's mommie Gypsy to Tinkerbelle, Golden Boy and Precious. They turned 4 yesterday. I gave all of them fresh cut catnip, which they usually love and go bonkers over! Yesterday, they wanted it as soon as I brought it in the house, so I gave them each some, they took it off, smelled it, ate a tiny bit, and left it! I left it down for them thinking they'd get interested later, but this morning all the catnip pieces (branches) were exactly where each had left them last night. What's the deal with that????? I have no idea why they weren't interested, they usually go crazy!!! All except Sheba, and she never has liked catnip, so she wasn't any different last night. She just wanted some cause I gave it to Gypsy and her children, so she had to have some too. But every one of them left it alone. So guess the catnip party was a bust last night!

SUZANNE---That's a BUMMER!!---You have been working hard!!---ARE YOU SURE IT WAS CATNIP??????

Suzanne said...

Good morning, Donna! I didn't see you come in. Your time is getting down where you'll be able to watch the cams all day!

I just looked up our Jackdaw. We have 3 eggs this morning, but normal clutch is 4-5, so we can expect more eggs! That's great, means more babies. Eggs are incubated for 17-18 days, and fledge after 30-35 days. Interesting.

Costume Lady said...

NORMA, did you see my photo with my Eagle Cane? It came in handy going through the bushes and chasing away the snakes and scorpions. I truly did use it for that.

ceil said...

Good morning everyone. Wanda when I was staying at Helen's She told me to spray the pole of the feeder with Pam. Funny watching the squirrels slid down trying to get to the feed.

Suzanne said...

Norma, I planted that catnip plant several years ago, and it just gets bushier every year. I had a sort of hole in my card, so got a "whiskey barrel" planter and put it over the hole and planted catnip. Stuff will take over your yard if you let it, and this way it's contained. And I don't step in the hole and break my ankle or something. I'll give them some more this weekend, see how that goes.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I just pulled up the CT osprey cam. They have 4 eggs. I didn't know that. Been out of the loop with the other cams for a while. Don't see Papa Smurf in there yet though.

Costume Lady said...

SUZ, maybe it is like marijuana, it has be just right in ripeness.

Costume Lady said...

Catnip, a member of the mint family, is a harmless "high" for felines. Although many cats will eat it, scientists say they're reacting to the smell rather than the taste. Felines bite, chew, rub against, and roll in catnip to release the volatile oil trapped in the leaves. Catnip is harvested when this essential oil production reaches its peak, and leaves and fragrant flowers are carefully air-dried to preserve essential oils at their best.

About 80% of adult cats -- including lions, pumas, and leopards! -- react to this irresistible, intoxicating, analgesic soporific. The tendency to like or ignore catnip is inherited, and it's true that some cats are immune to its influence.

No problem getting on this morning but I have to leave. Have a great day. Beautiful, warm and sunny in downtown Baltimore,

CEIL, I'll have to pass that tip on to my mother. The squirrels drive her up a wall!

Mauley said...

My old vet(God rest his soul) always said there is a gene for catnip. Some had it some did't. About the bluebird boxes. One way to discourage sparrows is to leave off the perch. If your box has a perch, take it off. (you know the little stick thingy.) Bluebirds don't need it. it invites predators. So sorry about the nestbuilding. donna

Oh hey, Ceil made it in! Congratulations! Good morning, and have a great day at work.
Wanda that is exactly right about catnip. But from reading what you have, evidentally I must have cut off shoots too early. They are just starting to come up, and think my bush is only about 5" high or so. So...maybe it's too early. But I have dried in an air tight container, I'll put some toys in there when I get home, and give them the toys later this afternoon. See if that works. All my cats love catnip but Sheba. She has never cared for it, and only wants some now cause everybody else is getting some. But she usually just sniffs it and walks away! She does watch the other cats, and guess she wonders what in the world is wrong with them? Cause she just doesn't get it, does nothing for her. But thanks, learned something else today...can't cut it too early!!
Wanda, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's bluebirds! I'd take bluebirds any day over those blasted sparrows! The sparrows just take over everything!

Good Eagle Watching Morning to
everyone;
All three eaglets here are doing
good but both adults have to go
find food and leave the young
alone for some time. They are all
about the same size and don't seem
to fight with each other over food
when the adults bring it to the
nest and give it to them.

Walking by on my way to the fridge. Took a few minutes to actually sit and observe outside, and I can hear the hummer in the holly tree by my garden, I just don't see him. Also, almost immediately after sitting down, an indigo bunting flew up into the tree by me. He was scared away by a pileated woodpecker. it's a jungle out there- later:)

LOL, Norma, Sheba is actually the Queen of Sheba. When I first brought her in the house, Pharaoh was waiting to greet her and she looked at him and spit! Then immediately proceded to explore every inch of her new house.. as the alpha cat. She's been the alpha ever since, and that was years ago. Got her from the shelter. Gypsy was a stray that I brought in, and she gave me 5 kittens, 3 of which I still have. So she's my momma Gypsy.

Megan, you make me wish I was home so I could watch for my new bunting to see if he comes around again!

Donna, I put a nest box out last year and had sparrows right away. This year, I am putting one out this weekend, and I did take the perch off of it. Bluebirds don't use the perches, and hopefully, the sparrows won't want to use the nestbox either! I've had a bluebird house up for years, no takes ever!
