Had some excitement last night at home. We had a house fire. Thanks to the Philomont and Middleburg Vol. Fire Departments, our 200 year old house was saved, with only some moderate damage. If we can get the water back on we can stay at the house.
My blogging will be sparce for a few days because of this.

Deb, I heard there was 5 inches of new snow in South Dakota. How much did you get there?
I got mostly rain, just a dusting of snow. Parts of SD had 15" of snow and were without power for 24-36 hours. I think everyone is back on now. What I am getting now, won't amount to much.
It is so funny to watch them try out their wings, when their balance isn't very good.

Someday you'll have to show us a snap of your 200-year-old house (Federalist?), Steven. It's great to learn it has survived another close call and that all are well, who were within. Congratulations.
We in So Cal are being treated to a bone fide Santa Ana condition.
It has already reached the forecast of 89° and will probably go higher...the Channel Island eagles are taking appropriate action to protect themselves and their young...and the humidity has dropped to 8%! Looks like 3 days of that.
There are reading materials on the Panda blog in SD and on the IWS Reports for the week. Take a look if you haven't already.
The Norfolk cam seems to have been reset also. Things are looking up.

Weather at the Channel Islands is WARM! It says its 88 degrees and it looks like there is not much of a breeze, just an occassional rustling of the branches. Parents are doing their best to provide shade for the little munchkins. The nest is right out in the sun.. tho I imagine the eagles are used to it. Momma's on the nest at the moment. :-)
They have brought in A LOT MORE MATERIALS to the BWO nest box, are mating more; and it looks like this pair is getting ready for a serious nesting season. [:~D]

STEVE, how awful for you and your family! A house fire must be a terrible thing to experience. We once had a brush fire to get out of control, and I was terrified; so I can't imagine a house fire.

Yes, there were 4 heron eggs. 3 have hatched for sure and I think the last one may have hatched today.

My live feed doesn't want to stay on, but it does reload
my live feed did that all day when it was on, Paula. it has actually been on for 16 mins, so far, that is unsusal.
Mine only stays on for 3 minutes at most...never had this problem before
mine is like that all the time when it is on, except at this time of night, seems to work better, but will not stay on over night and is gone in the a.m.
Mine seems to have cleared up, it was saying it might be an internet problem

Hello Sharon. the fact that some people can't get the FWS sites open while others have no problem doing so makes no sense to me at all. This happened to me last year for a couple of weeks, then suddenly I could get into FWS sites again. Wierd....

Apparently, the live feed needs to be reset...wasn't working late last night when I signed off either.
There are a couple of fresh clumps (last few minutes) of sod or root ball in the BWO nest. They're really progressing now.
