News from Nest Cams-Wood Duck Greenville TX Taking Care
Apr 29, 2009 - The female wood duck is covering her eggs with wood chips and feather down before leaving the box. The eggs should hatch around the 2nd of May.
I was just walking minding my own business....good thing guardian angel pushed me further to the left so I landed on the grass, got a bump om my left side of head, but no bruises....it crushed the soda can in my bag I was carrying...
Horrible story about the eagles. Deb they did catch a person one time but he got what I would call a slap on the wrist. See I didn't drop her on her head she fell. Think you should have those ribs x-rayed NOW.
Norma I saved a lilac bush today. Neighbor is having a parking pad put in and I have always admired her lilac bush. Saw it laying in the dirt and went up and asked if she was going to replant it. She said no. So she and I carried it down the alley. Waiting for Jim to come home and help me put it in a pot.
Mits, I am so sorry to hear of your injury. Sounds like my klutziness has rubbed off on you other three gals. You really do need it checked.....they say that bruised ribs are worse than broken, but I take issue with that!! I broke one in Nov. '07 just from coughing. The pain was awful. They don't wrap ribs anymore....can lead to increased risk of pneumomia!
Know that you are resting now with your pain med working, Helen, but when you check back in, know that I sent up a special prayer for you! Sharon, good blood count! Keep up the good work! Have they said anything about weekly or monthly B12 shots? Ceil, cool about the lilac. Mine doesn't appear to be developing any blooms...this is it's 2nd spring. Saw a shed-sized bush bull-dozed once near where I used to live....it was too close to the road for the Dept. of Highways....heartbreaker.
i just bopped in to say i'm almost certainly gonna be checking out the nest tree on this coming monday. forecast is for "a few showers," but, if so, so be it! if hidey can take it, so can i.
i told my coworkers it's as good a destination for a pilgrimage as many.
Dave Hancock (HI) says that he's had thousands of nest observations and has only seen three hatchlings twice. Does he mean in Canada....or everywhere...and were the two OURS, I wonder???!!
B.C. is home to approximately 20,000 bald eagles, which are included in Canada's protected species list.
At the time of the first conviction the charge was $50,000 and up to six months in jail. Those penalties were raised to $250,000 and two years in jail under changes to the Wildlife Act earlier this year.
ltl, good for you....tell them it's a BETTER destination than many!!! So Steve okayed everything? Great! Well, this thread actually started last evening around 7:30! Where in VA are you going to be over the weekend? And where are you coming from?
yep, hedgie, steve said i'm good to go. just ask the guard where to go and not go. :)
i have buddies in winchester i'm joining for their annual apple blossom festival party. won't be making it this trip to my old haunts in baltimore, or d.c. or in between, or on the Sho'.
Hope you have a great weekend, ltl---Lisa, right? How long have you been away from the metro area? WOuld you beleive in all my 60 yrs. of DC, VA and WV living, I've never gone to the Apple Blossom Festival? And only to our Apple Harvest Festival twice....once when eldest daughters'band was marching, and second time when youngest was the ROTC Princess and was riding on a car in the parade.

I can't take my eyes off of her!
We watch all the eagle nests....everyone has their favorites, but mostly watch Iowa, Oklahama, Oregon, California, Hornby Island, Duke, and numerous osprey cams - Connecticut, Hilton Head, Puleston in NY, Maine, etc.

Back from a nice trip at DMV yes Lynn only 20 minutes in and out. Got my monkey picture lol
Mits I was going to say they don't wrap ribs anymore but Lynn I see already covered that. Truly you should be seen. A rib you don't think is cracked just bruised. Can be cracked without you knowing it and puncture your lung.
WOW, look at that big bird!! Looks like he/she's nibbling something. Good Evening Everyone! Not been on much this week & had eye Dr. appt. today, so have been mostly blind from drops! But can't miss Hidey!!☺

Hello all....Been busy for the last couple days but have been checking in on Hidey. So is it just my eyes or is there a smudge on the camera? Remains from Spidey?
Rib injuries are so painful. Hurts to move anything and hurts with every breath. They don't wrap them anymore because that can cause pneumonia. Breathing keeps it irritated but that is pretty much necessary in order to keep living! :)
Bibee - Would love to have you become a yahoo Eaglet Momster/Dadster! Open this home page - last site down on the right. This is where all the emails, links, photos and lots more can be found.
Saturday there is an open house free to public at the Three Rivers Avian Center located in Brooks, WV. Brooks is between Sandstone and Hinton. You can view their website for all details. They are a rescue center for birds of all descriptions. I've been looking forward to this and hope to be able to attend. Have any of you ever been there?
I'm not sure Lynn but it seems last season the way the light shined on them they looked "golden". I remember we were kidding about the loon that laid the golden eggs.
I haven't been to the Avian center in Hinton but I have been to two shows by the owners and the birds. The shows are wonderful. I was just truly amazed at how pretty the birds are. It is worth seeing all those beautiful birds!
Thanks for telling me about the little trash can. I deleted the one comment that I posted twice. Silly me! Also, I don't have any sound on my computer either for Hidey. And yes, I will join the Eaglet Momsters group! Thanks for the other cam sites. I will surely look at them. Anyone going to the show on Saturday at the avian center?
Okay, somebody needs to take a water hose to the sycamore tree, hook up one of those bottles of Windex that you can spray on windows with the hose to clean the lens.
I have a million and 43 cowbirds out here. I also have Mr. and Mrs. Grosbeak. They are so beautiful! The cowbirds are just obnoxious and puff up all the time.
If all goes as my husband and I have planned we will be going on Saturday. His job requires him to be on call one weekend and guess which weekend it is....this one. But we usually know early if he would need to be out.
Wouldn't it be cool if Sharon, Sissy, Thelma and Mattie could meet up w/ Sara and Bibee??? "This could be the start of something big" as the song goes!!
I am really disappointed that nannydary never came back on....and never answered my email. But then...she's never answered a single one I've sent about rtiree functions in the last 4 yrs., either. So....maybe it's ME!
I retired from glen fork elementary school in wyoming county with 21 years of experience. Not old enough to draw retirement so I had to draw all my retirement out so that we would have something to live on. I got my disability in August 2008. Since I am so new to this, how can you tell Liberty and Belle apart? Please bear with me while I learn all this bird talk!
There are some great pics of Buddy on his birthday Monday, mantling over his "special birthday bluefish"---check it out on this page of the Center's site:
Sara and Bibee, I have family that teaches in Wyoming County!! My niece Brenda Shumate is a teacher (can't remember where) and her husband Terry teaches at Wyoming East.
Back to say Good Night I guess. Pleasant Feather Dreams to all those hitting the hay. Saw some TV ☺ eye drops wore off finally!!! Yesterday at work got to check HI & saw little grey fuzzy next to egg--adorable. Checked them & OK around 6PM tonight & seems cams are out.
Good evening! Have been watching Grey's and Private Practice while trying to catch up on the blog. Hard job! Also, was watching HI and finally saw both chicks. So cute!
Mits! So sorry for your fall. Hope that pain pill has helped.
More schools and activities being cancelled in our area. Laurel said two schools have closed now in her district.
When you go look at my blog "Speed Racer" be sure to click on "older posts" and the end of the first page of pictures. There are more pictures of Speed Racer. :)
Weather report not sounding too good for the weekend....iffy...chance of rain every day and night---raining here right now again. I got my housecleaning done today. Have retiree breakfast in the am, homeowners assn. mtg. Sat. pm, and church concert Sun. pm...really chopped up schedule! Don't really like having to go out so many days in a row. Oh well, it is what it is!
Nighty-night, Jo! Thanks, Lolly...missed them the first viewing! Do you know that doing what you did normally costs a couple of hundred bucks???!!! LUCKY gal! What did you think of my feat???
GOOD MORNING EE SISSY AND ALL OTHER MOMSTERS AND dADSTERS WHO ARE GOING TO GET ON HEERE TODAY. TGIF! We made it throught another week!!!! I have only about thirty more days of school left. I think the kids get out the 10th of June and I have to work just the following Thursday and Friday to get the room straightened up.
Finally went home last night and pulled the new computer out of the box and set it up. My husand came in and finished the joy, making sure I had connected it right. He said he can get Yahoo, sooooooooo here I come again. I can't wait to try it tonight after school.
Sorry to hear that MITS had a fall. I was just wondering if they were back from their trip yet or not. Hope she takes care of herself.
I see we have two new people on here; Sara and Bibee. Welcome aboard. You couldln't find a better group of people than these people.
I see Hidey is just stirring on the nest. Boy is he getting big. Guess he must have had his breakfast a little earlier. I seem to come in at school when he is napping.
Well, the kids are going to be here in a few, so I had better get on the ball! You all have a good day blogging and watching and a SUPER WEEKEND!

ABOUT LARRY'S LOONS
Good Grief! Just read back.....
Helen, did a Panda push you???
That must be so painful, maybe you should get an Xray. Prayers for you. ☺
Hello all....Been busy for the last couple days but have been checking in on Hidey. So is it just my eyes or is there a smudge on the camera? Remains from Spidey?
It is a smudge. Wishful thinking that would only be remnants left of Spidey. I think all of Spidey is still there! ;)
Maybe Hidey had bad aim. :)
Rib injuries are so painful. Hurts to move anything and hurts with every breath. They don't wrap them anymore because that can cause pneumonia. Breathing keeps it irritated but that is pretty much necessary in order to keep living! :)
Both adults were just in our nest, back to one.

Already have electric bill in truck w/ renewal form, Dana!!!
Hi, Loretta!!! Check email from me in response to one you sent last week!
It looks like it is not far off of Rt. 20. That really might be doable!
So Larry is saying that eagles steal loon eggs??? Hard to believe!!!
I am going to email Steve about the sound on our cam...
Did you see the pics of the loon egg-laying on Larry's blog??? Cool...dark-colored egg...guess normal for them.
I'm not sure Lynn but it seems last season the way the light shined on them they looked "golden". I remember we were kidding about the loon that laid the golden eggs.
I have sound on our cam, it is mostly a hum though and I had to turn it up.
I haven't been to the Avian center in Hinton but I have been to two shows by the owners and the birds. The shows are wonderful. I was just truly amazed at how pretty the birds are. It is worth seeing all those beautiful birds!

Nice release story out of Wildlife Center of VA - where Buddy is...
Ratty Eagle released
Hidey was just ducking her head for some reason.
Might be the damp weather affecting the sound...I can usually hear something! Can't hear a thing...
I am glad they found that eagle, Paula, and were able to release it.

Whoa, two confirmed cases of swine flu in Virginia!
Hey Sharon, I am getting one of those Windex thingys for GeeGee's windows. I'll see what I can do at the nest ;)
Buddy's Birthday
Bibee -- my mother and father in law both work for the wyoming county bd of ed. Do you know Butch Thorn?
Yes, I know Butch & Karen Thorn. He works for the maint. dept. and she is an aide, right?
Bibee, Belle is the larger of the two adults. Paula can usually tell them apart by the pattern of their neck feathers, but I can't!
I looked at Buddy's birthday. That was too cute. I was reading all the info to my hubby about his surgery. Neat!
yes butch works for maint. dept and Kathy is an aide at mullens grade school.
Sara and Bibee, I have family that teaches in Wyoming County!! My niece Brenda Shumate is a teacher (can't remember where) and her husband Terry teaches at Wyoming East.
It is a very small world indeed!
My niece teaches at Glen Fork Elementary and middle school!
Brenda just said she knows Butch and Karen Thorn.
watching grey's anatomy and checking the computer. my husband says he knows terry. it is a small world.
I am pretty sure that LW eagle is feeding two eaglets. Darn tree!
I just checked in at Maine and there are two eaglets at Lake Washington. I am off to relax for a while tonight. I might drop back in for a bit later.
Wow, it's amazing ya'll know each other through friends and relatives!
Love Buddy's fish pictures. Did you see how many mice he's eaten?
Belle is larger than Liberty. She is also darker in color. Also, Lib has more of his tail feathers showing than Belle does.
Belle also has more of an upside down V in her fron neck feathers
Can't hardly even tell there is an adult in the nest with Hidey.
Adult looks like an Eagle Spirit!!!
So we have Hope and Echo? Thanks for the info.
I just marvel at how Small our Worlds are when we find even a small connection!
So glad you all are joining us here!
Need to take some meds... No pain killers just antibiotics....
BBIAF
Hey Sharon, what kind of bird is your avatar now?
Rose-breasted grosbeak.
There isn't an adult in the nest! Ya'll must be on some good meds...
Thanks, Sharon. I am pretty clueless on id'ing birds!
There is not an adult now but there was one at 2 o'clock, took off. I haven't taken any hallucinogens!

Both osprey at Finney Water
One osprey at Finney Land
Raccoon party in the PA woods.
There is a daily visitor to daughter's feeder It is the Rose-breasted grosbeak
She ways it's beautiful and now I know why!
The female grosbeak is brown and white with yellow under her wings. She is so beautiful and her movements just seem so graceful.
OK, Sharon and Jo, glad ya'll aren't hallucinating!
Not hallucinating today anyway! :)
