Speaking of panda cubs being so small, reminds me of the tape we saw of Lun Lun giving birth to XL...why, you would have thought that baby weighed 25lbs:)

paula eagleholic said...

Colors really coming in nice on the cam...

BTW, Steve, Don't think we have told you lately how great our cam is!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

She needs to go to the camera and flap her wings to get that smudge off of there.

Mits said...

yes it is amazing of the panda cubs size when born...have not looked at PA in last hour, but sound was up and loud when I was there Paula...

Mits said...

I have joined the walking wounded, had a terrible fall on my way to panda house yesterday, think ribs are bruised, not broken, have difficulty breathing sometimes, Aleve has not helped the pain, so just took a real pain pill....I am such a klutz:(

NJ Duke Farms 3 eaglets are growing!

NBG Rebels are really getting their flight feathers in - Is it May 20 that the transmitter is being placed on one of them?

Can't readily get OKLA site up right now

News from Nest Cams-Wood Duck Greenville TX
Taking Care

Apr 29, 2009 -
The female wood duck is covering her eggs with wood chips and feather down before leaving the box. The eggs should hatch around the 2nd of May.

I guess I started it all.
Sharon so glad you got your legs check and that is good news concerning your iron! They are going to study you!!

Mits if by tomorrow you can't move very fast, go get your ribs wrapped so you breathe better.

At least we are all still alive to talk about it - Yepper like you said Mits -
Our Guardian Angels were looking over us.

Mits said...

I was just walking minding my own business....good thing guardian angel pushed me further to the left so I landed on the grass, got a bump om my left side of head, but no bruises....it crushed the soda can in my bag I was carrying...

04/30/09:
Technical Note
We're having issues with the image updating, and we're working to fix it.

Egg Alert!
We now have three eggs. Technically a fourth could come in three days, but since this is a new couple, we kind of hope they stop at three.

BWO pic is from 7:11 this morning....I looked earlier today, couldn't see the 3....

paula eagleholic said...

MIts, sorry to hear that! Enjoy the pain pill, if you can!

ceil said...

Horrible story about the eagles. Deb they did catch a person one time but he got what I would call a slap on the wrist.
See I didn't drop her on her head she fell. Think you should have those ribs x-rayed NOW.

Mits said...

thanks, Paula, lets see how I am tomorrow, Ceil:)

ceil said...

Norma I saved a lilac bush today. Neighbor is having a parking pad put in and I have always admired her lilac bush. Saw it laying in the dirt and went up and asked if she was going to replant it. She said no. So she and I carried it down the alley. Waiting for Jim to come home and help me put it in a pot.

Mits said...

going to lie down for awile...bbl

Mits said...

my lilacs are beautiful this year, don't think my newer one will bloom though

hedgie said...

Mits, I am so sorry to hear of your injury. Sounds like my klutziness has rubbed off on you other three gals. You really do need it checked.....they say that bruised ribs are worse than broken, but I take issue with that!! I broke one in Nov. '07 just from coughing. The pain was awful. They don't wrap ribs anymore....can lead to increased risk of pneumomia!

hedgie said...

Know that you are resting now with your pain med working, Helen, but when you check back in, know that I sent up a special prayer for you!
Sharon, good blood count! Keep up the good work! Have they said anything about weekly or monthly B12 shots?
Ceil, cool about the lilac. Mine doesn't appear to be developing any blooms...this is it's 2nd spring.
Saw a shed-sized bush bull-dozed once near where I used to live....it was too close to the road for the Dept. of Highways....heartbreaker.

423 comments so far today? ya'll are goin' crazy!

i just bopped in to say i'm almost certainly gonna be checking out the nest tree on this coming monday. forecast is for "a few showers," but, if so, so be it! if hidey can take it, so can i.

i told my coworkers it's as good a destination for a pilgrimage as many.

hedgie said...

Dave Hancock (HI) says that he's had thousands of nest observations and has only seen three hatchlings twice. Does he mean in Canada....or everywhere...and were the two OURS, I wonder???!!

paula eagleholic said...

He must mean with his own eyes...NBG had 3 twice...we had 3 twice....Caltrans, Duke, IA all have 3....he'd better wake up

Nice wingersizes our nest!

Good for British Columbia/Canada:

B.C. is home to approximately 20,000 bald eagles, which are included in Canada's protected species list.

At the time of the first conviction the charge was $50,000 and up to six months in jail. Those penalties were raised to $250,000 and two years in jail under changes to the Wildlife Act earlier this year.

hedgie said...

ltl, good for you....tell them it's a BETTER destination than many!!! So Steve okayed everything? Great!
Well, this thread actually started last evening around 7:30!
Where in VA are you going to be over the weekend? And where are you coming from?

ltl said...

yep, hedgie, steve said i'm good to go. just ask the guard where to go and not go. :)

i have buddies in winchester i'm joining for their annual apple blossom festival party. won't be making it this trip to my old haunts in baltimore, or d.c. or in between, or on the Sho'.

hedgie said...

Hope you have a great weekend, ltl---Lisa, right? How long have you been away from the metro area? WOuld you beleive in all my 60 yrs. of DC, VA and WV living, I've never gone to the Apple Blossom Festival? And only to our Apple Harvest Festival twice....once when eldest daughters'band was marching, and second time when youngest was the ROTC Princess and was riding on a car in the parade.

ltl said...

it's lisa, right. :)

i lived in baltimore for a little more'n a dozen years after college. left right before the turn of the century.

i've never been to the apple blossom to-do either.

Hey everyone,
My computer died. I have a brand new laptop now. Although I am new to this site, I have missed reading all the comments. I love watching Hidey. That bird just makes my day! Yes, I am a southern West Virginian! Love my state!

hedgie said...

Glad to see you back in action, Bibee!

hedgie said...

Lisa, where are you now?
Bibee, where in WV? Our southern delegation is growing!

I live close to Mullens in a little community named Stephenson. I do appreciate all the warm welcomes frome everyone. I went to beakspeak. Wow! What do you all watch the most? I am just amazed at all the birdcams. Also, do you watch a panda somewhere? Didn't really know where to look for that one. I will have empty nest syndrome when Hidey flies. I can't take my eyes off of her!

We watch pandas at the National zoo, the Atlanta zoo and the San Diego zoo...

paula eagleholic said...

Is the sound on at our nest???

paula eagleholic said...

We watch all the eagle nests....everyone has their favorites, but mostly watch Iowa, Oklahama, Oregon, California, Hornby Island, Duke, and numerous osprey cams - Connecticut, Hilton Head, Puleston in NY, Maine, etc.

paula eagleholic said...

Oh, and Norfolk eagles nest to....

paula eagleholic said...

And Blackwater, osprey and eagles...

I could go on and on...

Out to play with the doggies!BBL

hedgie said...

Yep, Paula covered a lot of them. Also stork nests in Europe, and a loon nest in Maine---most incredible sound they make! We also catch Big Rig Steve--he's a trucker w/ a dash cam! And then there's Mardi Gras cams, beach cams, a volcano cam, etc. We could go on and on! If anything strikes your fancy, you can do an internet search or we can give you links!

Minnesota Live Loon Cam Remember last season the man that puts the platform out for the Loons. Had to chance a guy in a boat away. Plus a guy in a blue truck.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

And don't forget the Jeffersoncam in Bluefield!

Back from a nice trip at DMV yes Lynn only 20 minutes in and out. Got my monkey picture lol

Mits I was going to say they don't wrap ribs anymore but Lynn I see already covered that. Truly you should be seen. A rib you don't think is cracked just bruised. Can be cracked without you knowing it and puncture your lung.

Sharon so so glad they took care of your legs!!

hedgie said...

I meant Minnesota, not Maine--thanks, Dana! Oh, and the African safari cam!

NatureNut said...

WOW, look at that big bird!! Looks like he/she's nibbling something.
Good Evening Everyone!
Not been on much this week & had eye Dr. appt. today, so have been mostly blind from drops! But can't miss Hidey!!☺

Gotta russle up some dinner....
BTW, Paula I got your flower eagle in a card from a friend! Love it!!

hedgie said...

Can't believe how lucky you were, Dana....20 mins. Unheard of....guess they finally got their act together! Last time I had to go in person (think it was last year) I used drive-thru' and it only was 5 mins. I was shocked!

wvgal_dana said...

Lynn make sure you take electric bill with your right address on. Yes even to renew driver license.

ABOUT LARRY'S LOONS

NatureNut said...

Good Grief! Just read back.....
Helen, did a Panda push you???
That must be so painful, maybe you should get an Xray. Prayers for you. ☺

sara said...

Hello all....Been busy for the last couple days but have been checking in on Hidey. So is it just my eyes or is there a smudge on the camera? Remains from Spidey?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

It is a smudge. Wishful thinking that would only be remnants left of Spidey. I think all of Spidey is still there! ;)

sara said...

Maybe Hidey had bad aim. :)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Rib injuries are so painful. Hurts to move anything and hurts with every breath. They don't wrap them anymore because that can cause pneumonia. Breathing keeps it irritated but that is pretty much necessary in order to keep living! :)

deb said...

Both adults were just in our nest, back to one.

wvgal_dana said...

Sharon how many now are in the Southern Delecation?

Mema Jo said...

Lisa You have an email

Bibee - Would love to have you become a

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Well, we have Sara in Beckley, Bibee in Mullens and me, Sissy and Mattie (and Thelma still counts for here) in Bluefield.

wvgal_dana said...

Wow your going to have to have a meeting half way sometime. With all of them.

Mema Jo said...

Dinner time in our nest - you know it's
the meal before night light & bedtime

Adult is doing well by Hidey!!

Mema Jo said...

WHOA! Tug of War with that large piece

Mema Jo said...

I am really thankful we didn't have as
much rain as forecasted the past couple days! As long as Megan got enough - that will do it!

Mema Jo said...

Sharon is going to rent a bus and we'll see them all Oct 17th at Open House!
Now that is a plan!!

Mema Jo said...

I don't have sound on our cam......

sara said...

Saturday there is an open house free to public at the Three Rivers Avian Center located in Brooks, WV. Brooks is between Sandstone and Hinton. You can view their website for all details. They are a rescue center for birds of all descriptions. I've been looking forward to this and hope to be able to attend. Have any of you ever been there?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I would love to meet them.

Sara, I am going to check into that. Maybe we can come on Saturday. More will be revealed.

hedgie said...

Already have electric bill in truck w/ renewal form, Dana!!!
Hi, Loretta!!! Check email from me in response to one you sent last week!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

It looks like it is not far off of Rt. 20. That really might be doable!

hedgie said...

So Larry is saying that eagles steal loon eggs??? Hard to believe!!!

paula eagleholic said...

I am going to email Steve about the sound on our cam...

hedgie said...

Did you see the pics of the loon egg-laying on Larry's blog??? Cool...dark-colored egg...guess normal for them.

wvgal_dana said...

I'm not sure Lynn but it seems last season the way the light shined on them they looked "golden". I remember we were kidding about the loon that laid the golden eggs.

deb said...

I have sound on our cam, it is mostly a hum though and I had to turn it up.

Bibee said...

I haven't been to the Avian center in Hinton but I have been to two shows by the owners and the birds. The shows are wonderful. I was just truly amazed at how pretty the birds are. It is worth seeing all those beautiful birds!

Bibee said...

Thanks for telling me about the little trash can. I deleted the one comment that I posted twice. Silly me! Also, I don't have any sound on my computer either for Hidey. And yes, I will join the Eaglet Momsters group! Thanks for the other cam sites. I will surely look at them. Anyone going to the show on Saturday at the avian center?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Okay, somebody needs to take a water hose to the sycamore tree, hook up one of those bottles of Windex that you can spray on windows with the hose to clean the lens.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Bibee, it is possible that I may go Saturday.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I have a million and 43 cowbirds out here. I also have Mr. and Mrs. Grosbeak. They are so beautiful! The cowbirds are just obnoxious and puff up all the time.

sara said...

If all goes as my husband and I have planned we will be going on Saturday. His job requires him to be on call one weekend and guess which weekend it is....this one. But we usually know early if he would need to be out.

sara said...

Bibee...what school did you retire from?

paula eagleholic said...

Nice release story out of Wildlife Center of VA - where Buddy is...

Ratty Eagle released

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Hidey was just ducking her head for some reason.

paula eagleholic said...

Might be the damp weather affecting the sound...I can usually hear something! Can't hear a thing...

deb said...

I am glad they found that eagle, Paula, and were able to release it.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Some kind of bird just landed on the left side of the nest, down on the side a little bit.

paula eagleholic said...

Both adults our nest...Lib just took off the back

paula eagleholic said...

LOL Hedgie - I thought she was talking about Spidey poop shooting! Maybe she was talking about Hidey

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Belle is really digging into that nest!

paula eagleholic said...

It's def on the lens...not in the web...hasn't moved at all. Belle is fluffing up the covers...or bed!

wvgal_dana said...

Did anyone know or already comment that Hi 2nd baby eaglet is named "Echo".

hedgie said...

Wouldn't it be cool if Sharon, Sissy, Thelma and Mattie could meet up w/ Sara and Bibee??? "This could be the start of something big" as the song goes!!

I am really disappointed that nannydary never came back on....and never answered my email. But then...she's never answered a single one I've sent about rtiree functions in the last 4 yrs., either. So....maybe it's ME!

paula eagleholic said...

Cool, Dana...didn't know it hatched! Tried to watch earlier, but couldn't see under MA

paula eagleholic said...

Gotta go walk the doggies....bbl

sara said...

Sharon...if you think you may go on Saturday I'll check back with you tomorrow evening and we can plan to meet there.

Since I am so new to this, how can you tell Liberty and Belle apart? Please bear with me while I learn all this bird talk!

Bibee said...

Yes, I know Butch & Karen Thorn. He works for the maint. dept. and she is an aide, right?

hedgie said...

Bibee, Belle is the larger of the two adults. Paula can usually tell them apart by the pattern of their neck feathers, but I can't!

Bibee said...

I looked at Buddy's birthday. That was too cute. I was reading all the info to my hubby about his surgery. Neat!

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, it's amazing ya'll know each other through friends and relatives!

Love Buddy's fish pictures. Did you see how many mice he's eaten?

Belle is larger than Liberty. She is also darker in color. Also, Lib has more of his tail feathers showing than Belle does.

paula eagleholic said...

Belle also has more of an upside down V in her fron neck feathers

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Can't hardly even tell there is an adult in the nest with Hidey.

Mema Jo said...

Adult looks like an Eagle Spirit!!!

I think the kids get out the 10th of June and I have to work just the following Thursday and Friday to get the room straightened up.

Finally went home last night and pulled the new computer out of the box and set it up. My husand came in and finished the joy, making sure I had connected it right. He said he can get Yahoo, sooooooooo here I come again. I can't wait to try it tonight after school.

Sorry to hear that MITS had a fall. I was just wondering if they were back from their trip yet or not. Hope she takes care of herself.

I see we have two new people on here; Sara and Bibee. Welcome aboard. You couldln't find a better group of people than these people.

I see Hidey is just stirring on the nest. Boy is he getting big. Guess he must have had his breakfast a little earlier. I seem to come in at school when he is napping.

Well, the kids are going to be here in a few, so I had better get on the ball! You all have a good day blogging and watching and a SUPER WEEKEND!
