good morning,everyone... i am new to the blog... and was looking for a "thursday" thread.... glad i found you all! i am down in south florida. did any of you see the tesoro eaglets last year in port st. lucie, florida? that is the next town over.... they got me interested in eagles... loved watching them daily. i am having a problem today getting the cam, can anyone help? and thanks again for the nice welcome.
Megan - I thought you were in the GH all this time! Lolly - I read about you catching the ferry last night! I am glad things are now back on schedule! I just want to know if it is going to be Sea Eagles or Osprey in the nest this year?
Jamie - This whole blog were big time viewers of Teroso nest! Very disappointed not to have it this year!
Good morning, fowl friends. Hope yours has been better than mine! Had an ocular migraine--in BOTH eyes...never had that happen before. And a backed-up commode! Think I got it, tho'....one more flush will tell the story. By the time I checked Decorah, action was over...will check Maine forum for video. Our critically injured VFF wcame here about a year ago from Lexintgon Park, MD. Only 45 yrs. old.
mitts, i swear when they finally flew away, i felt like i had empty nest syndrome! when they started to lift off the nest and come back down, i was like a worried mother! well, i am not sure what i am doing wrong, but i have nothing but a blank white spot where the live cam should be.... any suggestions as to what i am doing wrong?
Here is the update on the Norfolk triplets posted by the Wildlife Biologist yesterday.
All three of the eaglets continue to do well. The difference in size since they hatched is remarkable. Bald eagles grow rapidly adding on average 105g(males) -130g(females)of body weight per day - more then any other bird in North America.
All three chicks continue to feed well. Not every chick is fed during every feeding - this is not a cause for concern as this pair feeds their young quite frequently. You can see the light down that the chicks hatched with being replaced by a heavier darker grey woolly down. The chicks ability to self-regulate their own body temperature is improving, allowing them to be unbrooded for longer periods of time.
We are aware of the problems with the camera. Sometime on April 6th certain camera functionally was lost. While the camera is still broadcasting and operators are able to access it - we are not at this time able to either move the camera or turn on the night vision capability. We are in touch with the camera manufacturer and will continue to work to solve this problem. posted by VDGIF Wildlife Biologist at 6:36 PM
Loretta, saw where your tulip bulbs are still being dug up. Wonder what delights in eating them. My amarillas are now sending up stalks and about to bloom. My lilies are also looking good. Every year I buy two lily plants for the church santuary for Easter church service. Then I plant them. Jack keeps saying "no more!" But, they are purchased in memory of our parents and to honor our children and grandchildren. I have to plant them. LOL
deb, i get the page fine no matter how i enter the site but the live feed doesn't come up. i am so computer stupid... worked fine yesterday... could i have lost it buy doing something?
Jamie, my mom lived in Port St. Lucie for 15 yrs. Been there many times. She left in 2005...at age 86, she could no longer deal w/ the hurricanes after the three hits in '04 season. She moved to Missouri where my sister is. Are you in Stuart?
Megan, thanks for the info on the safari. Have not watched that for a while. Wonder if they have to be careful of the momma rhino charging to protect her baby?
yes, hedgie... i live right near the treasure coast mall off britt road. i moved from my condo in port st. lucie to here last year. there are many more trees and wooded areas here and i love watching the birds fly around more. i saw some kind of hawk with a snack in his talons yesterday... just glad i couldn't see what it was!
Jamie, I don't think you could have done anything to lose the feed. Chris at Outdoor TV said we could mail him if any one was having trouble. I'll get the address.
There's a turkey vulture munching on a squirrel in my front yard. yummmy.... Hello all:) quick break, had to drive kid to school- back to work now, have a great day!
I'm sure that the government powers-that-be would never allow cams if there was ANY evidence of it interfering w/ the nesting/brooding process. At the California nests, they even climb up into them to band the eaglets; they also do the same w/ the black storms in Hungary. They have qalso removed the eggs to hatch them in incubation in CA when the adults are not incubating correctly (they replace them w/ wooden eggs, and then return the hatchlings to the nest). The experts know what they are doing!
If the eagles were bothered by the light, they would move to a new location. The light has been at the nest for a few years now and the eagles are still there.
BTW, new folks...if you have your sound turned up when you are watching the cam, you can sometimes hear children...there is a day care center on the NCTC campus not too far from the nest.
All these wildlife cams that are watched on the internet use infared light- Is there a light shining on the eagles at night?
Answer: The Eagle Cam uses infrared technology (like the military uses) to provide "night vision," so there is no light shining on the eagles in the evening -- it just looks that way.
Great photo Sharon of adult & Hidey. They both pecked at each other... I think we have a female eaglet - you know the aggressive type and the size of her would say female! She is another Spunky one...
Me, too, Jo, plus color!! Then atrip to grocery store...thank goodness I don't need much as daughter is feeling very poorly w/ a cold and just wants to go home to bed after work. BBL.
Thanks to Lolly and Loretta for helping to figure out what it was.
Thank you for contacting us about the satyr angle wing! I agree with your identification of the butterfly. One explanation for the butterfly being out of its range could be the change in climate. Many animal species are moving into areas they have not been known to inhabit. You were very fortunate to have seen one right here in South Dakota, especially so early in the spring!
Sara, when they are together, Belle is quite a bit bigger than Lib. Lib is lighter in color than Belle and does most of the food deliveries to the nest. If an eagle flies in with food and the other takes it away right away, that is Lib delivering and Belle taking. Sometimes we can't tell either, especially with this camera angle.
First, Thanks to whomever is in charge of this wonderful site...we happened here after my mom found it and we now are 3 generations rushing back to the camera after whatever activities we have to see how baby and family are doing...my twin 9 yr olds have told all in their class about it. i have a couple of questions that you may help me with...are there other nests that we could also watch? how did the camera get there? i saw where there was a trip to see them, how close can you get? is the nes in someones yard? how lucky are they!! any help you could give us, we would truly appreciate....thanks again
The nest is on the campus of NCTC, National Conservation Training Center. The immediate nest area is off limits, but you can view it from the road and that gives you a pretty good view with binoculars.
I so love having all these new people on here with all their questions. That was us 3 years ago but we didn't have very many people to ask questions to. Man, have we learned a lot since then!!
just found this on Mr Food's website....sounds like a good accompaniment to baked ham...
Jezebel Sauce 4 cups 1 (18-ounce) jar apple jelly 1 (18-ounce) jar pineapple preserves 1/2 cup Dijon mustard 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix with a wire whisk until well blended. Refrigerate until ready to serve. SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve with baked ham or spoon over a block of cream cheese with crackers to make a festive hors d’oeuvre.
Over the years my Mom tried many glazes for ham ... beer, coke, pineapple, probably at least one more ... and they all worked well.
I tried barbecue sauce, which is good, red wine, and barbecue sauce/red wine were good too.
I think the strangest "sounding" one I had at the company cafeteria. It is called apricot something or other...I saw a gallon can of it at Sam's later. I thought is would be terrible, but surprisingly it was one of the best I've had. It's not "just" apricots, it is blended with pineapple.
“Boy, Oh Boy! National Zoo Staff Determines Sex of Clouded Leopard Cubs” – The clouded leopard cubs born at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo’s Conservation and Research Center (CRC) are both male as confirmed by the veterinary team. The cubs, born on March 24, are a healthy 1 pound 3-5 oz. each and have opened their eyes. They are now eating every four hours, down from their original schedule of a feeding every three hours.
K 10 has fed the chick again...the chick crawled to the other side of the egg bowl this time... and I'm sure I saw the chick grab a couple of pieces and swallow this time.
Thank God that hurdle is behind us. People on the IWS blog have been going crazy.

Hey, Jo. I caught the ferry last night. It was on time around 10:18/11:18 your time. Nice ride!

Thanks so much for your responses everyone, especially the link to the OK nest. The image is much clearer!
I have two more questions if you don't mind:
1. When was Hidey born? And the other baby (what's his name?)
2. Are there unhatched eggs in either nest still, or did those babies not make it??
Thanks!! I love these cams!

Guess I'm just stupid...today and everyday...can't find anything about a photo of the hatching at Decorah.
Maybe Chris at MyOutdoorTV would know about the light and if it disrupts eagles.
eagles cannot see the light, it is completely dark for them, but not us.
I'm sure that the government powers-that-be would never allow cams if there was ANY evidence of it interfering w/ the nesting/brooding process. is there an egg at Deschutes nest in Oregon? Eagle looks like it might be incubating.
I haven't look for awhile, off to check out the Oregon nest.
Checked the forum that never sleeps and there is an egg. I have to look back to see when. I hope they have a better year this time.
First egg was laid this morning. Check out the pictures here:

Still no hatch in the Red-tailed hawk nest in Portland.
lol, Deb, of course should have checked TFTNS...GREAT PIC OF THE NEW EGG. Yes, hope for a better year for them
They even have a link to the road conditions near the nest. They have cameras like we do here and like they do in Alaska.
I wonder what is around the Hawk's nest in Portland, you see people wheeling stuff down the street every once in a while.
thanks, Megan:)
RT hawk up in Portland still 3 eggs
hmm looks like a busy a.m. at BWO, more sticks look to have arrived.
Great photo Sharon of adult & Hidey.

Hidey is trying to peek over the edge of the nest! Checking out the world around him!
LOL as soon as I posted that, he tucked himself under Lib!
Hello..I'm new to your blog but have been watching the eagle cam since February. How do you tell the difference between Liberty & Belle?

cool info, Deb
Thanks Deb....from reading I knew the female was larger but just couldn't figure out how to tell them apart when only one was in the nest.
Welcome, Sara.
Sometimes it's hard to figure out which one is in the nest when there is only one, even for those of us that have been watching for 4 years!
Believe that is Lib in the nest now.
Also, when you look at the eagle from the back, you can see more of Lib's tail feathers than you can on Belle.
This is the first year I have watched. Don't know what I will do when Hidey leaves the nest.
Eagle just flew into OR nest.
Lib took off the back...Hidey is snoozin'
Let's see if this works...for the newbies on the blog....here is a look at the nest from above...
Aerial view of our nest
Belle is back...snapping at the flies, lol
Sara - there are more nests w/ eaglets just hatching...so you can continue to get an eagle fix after ours is gone....
And the eaglet will hang around the nest for awhile after fledging...around 6 weeks or so, the visits gradually diminish.
