Did any of you see OK earlier when both eagles were visable on the left cam and the eaglet was all alone in the nest on the right casm? He was climbing out of the egg cup and it was so cute!
Oh, yes Paula. You are famous for the poop shoot video. LOL
Got side-tracked of course watching the evening meal at OUR nest, and also checked out Okla - you are right Paula A Buffet ! The two views of the nest, is really neat.
Sounds like everyone on here is doing pretty good...except sounds like Dana and Lolly would like to be a more pain-free...prayers for your wellness, Ladies
Firefighter in our county incurred very serious injuries while fighting a barn fire here last evening. Original reports were not very complete but he is in Washington Hospital Center now, in critical, but stable, condition. He and his family, and his fellow firefighters, need our prayers, please.... and Thank You...This is the place to come to for Prayer...
Margy, sorry that our VFF is critical. Going by this am's paper, didn't think it was real serious until heard from daughter that Peanuts' gal said that he had his teeth knocked out and many facial fractures....and that he had coded twice.
Baker Heights, Dana...the other FF from Bedington, is doing okay, minor injury there...but emotionally, everyone is in serious condition.
Thanks, Friends...
Back later, enjoyed all the Class Notes and will check the fun video clips in a little while later. xo xo xo Hope your evenings are warm and full of comfort. Hug your loved ones....people and pets alike...
Watched the video, Paula. Your younger eyes are much better. I am sure there is an eaglet there, but you sure can not prove it by me. LOL Watched it twice!
Jo, the wider OK cam is turned to a utility pole right now. Eagle on top. I have the right side still up. Mom in nest with full eaglet. Earlier when one adult was on the bar above the nest and one adult was on a stump in the water, it was a fantastic view. They did a full rotation with the cam looking for the eagle.
Deb, Jack brought me our butterfly book. The top one I could not find. Really pretty! The second one is in the Angel Wing catagory, possibly SATYR. Feeds on nettles.
Whoops! Deb, I think I just found the first one. It is in the catagory Tortoise Shells, Mourning Cloak. The wings resemble angel wings, but the inner margin of the forewing is straight instead of concave.
We grow fennel just to feed a certain butterfly. It is black and so beautiful. We count the little caterpillars when the hatch. They are really pretty too. Certainly not a butterfly expert but it is fun to identify them.
I am here, Lynn. A really busy day and some arguments with Wal Mart Pharmacy. I had to pick up a script for GeeGee which has been $4.00 ever since they started this $4.00 program. Today, they charged $70.00, but didn't know why. After waiting 2, maybe even 3 hours (I bought groceries) I was too tired to argue. I will get a grip on myself tomorrow and call around and see what the problem is. DA--!
GeeGee's test was another easy one, but she is a little afraid they will find blockage.
Evening all Welcome to all the new people. This is a great blog. Prayers for the firefighters injured. Wanda hope Gee does not have a blockage. Prayers for her. Pleasant dreams to everyone. Good night The moon was beautiful tonight.
Beautiful butterflies Deb, got the first one right, didn't know the second one...seems early for that kind of beauty. I don't think we will see these for a few weeks yet
I am sorry to hear of the death of the Prince George's Firefighter as well... a very dangerous profession. In our county, we have been blessed with few injuries, this recent one being the most serious I have ever known of here.
It's good to see everyone tonight, very comforting
I hope you read the news that there is an egg in the Osprey nest in Loch of the Lowe's - since last night some time. I haven't checked to see if any more have been laid.
Wanda... sorry to hear of the hassle at the pharmacy. Impossible! I am glad to hear that GeeGee is holding her own, will be most interested to learn of the results. She is so bright and cheerful... I'm about due for a dose of GeeGee! xo
Wanda, reassure her that everyone her age has SOME blockage! It doesn't usually require treatment unless it's really severe. You can look up the drug on Walmart's $4 formulary online...or I can do it for you, if you're too tired.
Deb, you have me studying butterflies! There is the Satyre and the Comma. On the same site where they had good pictures of the Mourning Cloak they have one they call the Satyre Comma. ?????
Sorry, so sorry, I read " critically injured FF in PG county, and resident died in Vienna " and got mixed up. Sorry, folks, I think it's not a good night for me to be posting or emailing.
April 7 Mei Xiang had an ultrasound this morning, and nothing of interest was observed. Well, some people may find fluid and uterine folds interesting, but most of us who monitor Mei want to see a lot more. The larger shaved area on her belly really has helped to improve the quality of the picture on the ultrasound, even if the content is missing. Her progestin levels remain elevated, and she continues to be active, dancing at the door to go outside in the morning. She is also consuming a lot of bamboo, up to 40 pounds daily, and has started grazing on some of the young, tender grass in the yards. She continues to keep us guessing!
Tai Shan has been the wild man in the trees lately. He enjoys climbing right side up, and then upside down all over the new deadfall, much to the delight of our spring crowds. Tai shows some of the restlessness of his father, without quite the intensity.
Tian Tian appears to be in peak rut, and unfortunately there are no other females to focus his attentions and intentions on. In the wild, male pandas would wander through the three- to five-square-mile home ranges of their neighbors searching for females, congregating and sparring with other males along the way for access to them. Here at the Zoo, enrichment activities last a minute, before Tian is off on his quest again through the yards. He is currently spending most of his time in the big yard, in order to give him maximum room to wander, pace, and deposit his scent by rubbing his tail just about everywhere.
One day late last week, Tai Shan managed to catch a white-throated sparrow. Once in his grasp, he held it tightly to his chest and under his arms, rolling it around on his body and then his head. We have seen our pandas scent-anoint using rotten wood, but this time it was the poor bird. At one point he put it in his mouth and pulled out a few wing feathers before the bird managed to get away. We never saw the sparrow again, so it might have survived, hopefully a bit more wary from its ordeal in the panda yard.
Just getting on in time to say Goodnight & Pleasant Feather Dreams.
Paula, great videos & beautiful egg! I sent an Easter email to momsters. Tee Hee Margy, prayers for the FF. My DIL works at Wash Hosp Ctr in the burn unit.
needless to say it was a real zoo at the zoo today, I don't think I have ever seen it so busy, even in the peak summer months, parking was a complete nightmare, got lucky and got a spot on c-lot way down the hill, and got a ride up to my sign-in, and was still late..sign of the times to come, will have to start leaving at 11 for my 1 shift
I guess my timing is off as far as seeing the switch happen. Caught some action on the panda cams this evening - Cam 1 wasn't working when I was on - just cam 2.
I do still believe that the Eagles are aware of the infrared light. And with that I say the light is causing the eagles to not lay their eggs in the middle of the nest. OH yeah! There are cams everywhere. I have 6 eagle cams and 4 panda cams up right now!! And I wonder why I have a hard time working! No room on my monitor for work!!!
Welcome all! The nest at NCTC is our heart!! We try to go up there a couple of times a year if we can!!! And Liberty and Belle have always been very gracious hosts!

Tuesday, April 07, 2009 Memphis Zoo's Giant Panda Not Pregnant MEMPHIS, Tenn. – An ultrasound Tuesday of the Memphis Zoo’s nine-year-old female giant panda Ya Ya confirms that the panda’s pregnancy is not viable.
The procedure was led by Zoo veterinarians Drs. Mike Douglass and Dawn Zimmerman, and assisted by ultrasound specialist Dr. George Flinn and the Zoo’s panda keeper staff.
A gestational sac was seen during ultrasounds within the past week. Panda’s experience a secondary progesterone spike that corresponds to rapid fetus growth. Ya Ya’s spike occurred early last week, but the gestational sac had not displayed growth in an ultrasound over the weekend, and failed to differentiate.
The sac was unable to be found during today’s ultrasound. It is now believed that the sac has either been reabsorbed or expelled.“This effort took a very substantial amount of work by our staff,” said Zoo President and CEO Chuck Brady. “We’re extremely saddened by this loss.” Female pandas go into “estrus” – or their reproductive period – for a 72-hour window once a year.
Ya Ya was artificially inseminated on Christmas day of 2008. This is the second pregnancy loss for YaYa. The first occurred in June of 2007. Ya Ya and her male counterpart Le Le came to the Zoo in April of 2003. Giant Panda conservation, including the breeding program and research into bamboo nutrition, is a major component of the Memphis Zoo’s annual $1.5 million conservation and research budget. Morning Everyone! Nice sunny day for Hidey to get warm. How strong w/downy feathers to spend the night alone! Gotta Dr. appt. today--it's near my favorite nursery, but I just might go to sightsee. Think it's a little early for me to plant here. AND another tulip has bitten the dust---wilted leaves & hole in ground next to it. Somebody likes bulbs --aarrgghh.

Good morning! Have been opening cams and checking things out. Since Hidey apparenty was alone all night, I feel sure Belle and Lib were right above her/him. Last nights view of the OK cam was of the two eagles right above the nest.
Knee still hurts but is much better this morning. It is cloudy here and 64. Major rain even supposed to come this weekend. I plan to mow (riding mower) and Jack plans to spread fertilizer. Pray for rain in Texas...on my property and on the lakes! :)

I can see our eagle's eye blink and Spidey's web blowing.
Our Sunset was very beautiful shades of blue and pink this evening!

They are playing around with the left cam at OK.
I love it! They were really surveying the area until they found eagle on top of a utility pole.
Thanks Jo for the blue link. Don't know why but was getting it. Then no go. Until you put up the blue link ty again.
Will do, Margy.
LOL Jo, you know I was just teasing!
Now I have this image in my mind, of Jo in MD and Lolly in TX, laid back in their respective recliners!
Belle's tummy is full. Time to go to sleep.
Oh no Margy I thought they all were in good shape after the fire.
What station ??
Prayers for him and his family and friends...they all are close knit even from other stations.
Picture me with my leg just partially up. Have laptop on my lap and can not bend too much.
Margy, sorry that our VFF is critical. Going by this am's paper, didn't think it was real serious until heard from daughter that Peanuts' gal said that he had his teeth knocked out and many facial fractures....and that he had coded twice.
Wonder if the OK eagle will sleep on the top of the pole?
Here's the second bobblehead at PH
Welcome PH Eaglet #2
Prayers going up for the firefighter. What a shame!
Baker Heights, Dana...the other FF from Bedington, is doing okay, minor injury there...but emotionally, everyone is in serious condition.

I can only get wide view up at the OKLA cam right now. Can't say I like that view......
Treat yourselves to a look at the Moon too...look East, south east..
Flower Moon, a beautiful name...
reminds me of Megan...

You will see the head bob at 30 seconds, Lolly.
They are zooming in on PH nest right now...
Just read the report at OK telling about one of the dud eggs sticking to the female when she left the nest and it fell off in flight. Interesting!
I put two pictures of some sort of butterfly up on my photo's page. Can anyone tell me what they are? I am no good with butterflies and such!
Watching Criminal Minds
I see that Bobble Head!
I really had to strain my eyes!
Where has Sissy been today?? Miss her!
That's funny about the dud egg!

Deb, Jack brought me our butterfly book. The top one I could not find. Really pretty! The second one is in the Angel Wing catagory, possibly SATYR. Feeds on nettles.
Wanda, are you here? How did GeeGee's test go today?
Deb, buttterflies are lovely even tho' I have no idea what kind they are! Megan or Loretta might know.
Thanks, Lolly.
Oh, very interesting about the dud egg at OK, Lolly.
IS the IWS/CHIL forum up for anyone else?
Whoops! Deb, I think I just found the first one. It is in the catagory Tortoise Shells, Mourning
Cloak. The wings resemble angel wings, but the inner margin of the forewing is straight instead of concave.
Yes, they said the dud egg must have leaked and that is why it stuck to the eagle. Interesting!
We grow fennel just to feed a certain butterfly. It is black and so beautiful. We count the little caterpillars when the hatch. They are really pretty too. Certainly not a butterfly expert but it is fun to identify them.
Right OK cam is off. The wide angle cam is still on and both eagles are on the bar above the nest.

GeeGee's test was another easy one, but she is a little afraid they will find blockage.
I googled the Mourning Cloak, I think you got that dead on. I am still trying to find a picture of the other one.
I found it, searched Angel Wing.
Wow, that is quite the price difference, Wanda!
I am glad the tests went well.
Lolly, thanks so much for your help and thank Jack, too!
Margy, prayers for the fireman and his family, friends and co-workers.

They are gophers, Paula.
OOPS!
I just saw Hidey's sparkling eye

By the way, Deb. Fed your turtles. The way they ate, I think you have been neglecting them. :)
The kind of gopher we have here are striped gophers.

Well it's five o'clock and our Eaglet is in the nest alone...maybe all night, after reading the comments from after midnight.
Best wishes for a Good Day to All xo
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE...
It does look like Hidey spent the night alone. It is only 36°, but seems she came through OK:)
BEWARE OF INVITATION TO SEND EMAIL!! This person has NO profile.
Parent finally came home...squawked at Hidey, then fly off. Maybe to get breakfast.
Parent hasn't come back, yet and Hidey didn't seem very excited when Parent did fly in, so maybe she has already had her breakfast.

Adult eagle just landed in nest.
Both parents there now, feeding Hidey his breakfast!
Poof, gone!
LOL, Hidey really has difficulty positioning herself/himself for a poop shoot!
Breakfast is over, now for a Panda Nap:)

Hi, I'm new here. I just found this potomac nest cam and I am hooked.. cannot stop watching!
I was wondering whether there are other live eagle cams that someone could link me to.
Also does anyone know what is outside this nest?? is that green grass on the north east part of the screen??
Good morning everyone.
Tamara, the nest is in a sycamore tree on the campus of the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown. There is grass, lots of buildings, a barn, all kinds of stuff. We are glad you are here. If you type in beakspeak in google, you can find lots of other cams!
Hidey is really checking things out in the world outside that nest!
Tamara, oops! It is suttoncenter.org
Good Morning and Welcome to Our Wonderful Nest Cam Gabriela and Tamara.
Good Eagleland Morning Sharon nice to see you lady. ( :
I see a bobblehead at Duke Farms!!!
DUKE FARMS
I know they have had a hatch 1-apr. 6th and 2nd apr. 8th but I hadn't gotten to see them moving around until now. ( :
Duke Farms has 2 chicks! One hatched Monday, the second was Wedsnesday..not sure if it was this week or last week...
I have an article to send out about them!
Duke Farms still has one egg left to hatch. Both parents were there feeding their 2 eaglets.
Now for Decorah Iowa to start hatching. 3 eggs there should hatch anytime.
laid
1-Mar 2nd
2-Mar 5th
3-Mar 9th
Both parents are there now maybe we will get to see something like a chick....one is hatching partly out of egg!!!!!
A HATCH AT DECORAH
trying again
Good Morning everyone, have a blessed Holy Thursday:)
MOrning, all!
Dion...Belle has laid her eggs on that side of the nest since the cam has been on!
I bleieve the first year we watched, that the eggs were laid before the cam was turned on, but I'm not positive. Steve could answer that question.
Also, OK and Iowa nests are off center too, and I don't think they have infrared lights on at night.
Wow Dana, that's great news! Eaglets busting out all over the place!
Good Eagleland Morning Paula and Mits.
Paula did you take a look at Decorah?
Wanda, isn't Dion the gentleman that lives on the Potomac not far from the nest? Or am I thinking of someone else?
Hidey is sacked out...must have had a good breakfast!
No that's not Dion...
Great video in BWO site...
Nest Update
04/09/09:
Here is a WMV video clip (5 MB) that shows the environment around the platform.
You can see our Visitor Center, a patch of trees where eagles like to sit (and annoy the ospreys), our Wildlife Drive, and the Blackwater River where the ospreys and eagles like to fish.
that's right its Donnie
Picture is now up on the Maine Forum site of Decorah's 1st hatch.

Memphis Zoo's Giant Panda Not Pregnant
MEMPHIS, Tenn.
