Sure was awesome coverage. Wonder when mom will come back. Poor kids look scared to death. Well, guess they probably are, what was that big two legged thing??????

Mema Jo said...

I fell right through the split
The banding of the SanJose falcon is covered on the previous page.
We all agree it was AWESOME
coverage!

deb said...

Yes, it is hot there today and I am sure some of it is the stress of something different. He was very fast and efficient, wasn't he? That is my first banding to watch!!

deb said...

Come on home, Mom!

Mema Jo said...

Deb It was exceptionally good coverage. I sure do appreciate their cam and camera man!
Remember 5/22 for PA falcon banding..

MITS said...

it was already 82°there at 8 in the morning...expecting a high of 95°

Mema Jo said...

OK Need to take a break!

I'll ask again before I leave -
Is there a link to a home page or a blog/news page for the SJ falcon cam?

normabyrd said...

LISA has pics up of the OSPREY PAIR still mating & bringing fish to the nest!!!----

Not that I know of, just where we found it when Anne told us about it.

Suzanne said...

I don't know, Helen. I can't find anything on their site.

Mema Jo said...

I think it is Buta Buta out in her garden playing.....

Suzanne said...

Oh, just saw a shadow fly by on the wall. Hope that's mom coming back now!

Suzanne said...

She's getting closer!

normabyrd said...

SSORRY I MISSED the FALCONS!!---Looks like it was GREAT!!

Suzanne said...

Mom has landed!

deb said...

Mom has landed on the ledge, moving closer to chicks.

Suzanne said...

Well, what's she waiting for? She's checking on the kids, but not going down to the nest box.

deb said...

She is really panting, too. Poor thing, it is hot and she is stressed. Thanks for the falcon site, Jo. Off she goes.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I missed the coverage too but I saw her land and she was raising h***.

Suzanne said...

Well, darn, there she went. Hope she's hunting and will bring the kids a nice lunch surprise!
Thanks, Norma, I have to pet all the kids to get into my house after I'm gone. They have me trained very well! LOL, that's my dues to get back in after leaving them all day.
Mom's back, she flew around checking to make sure all those strange creatures were gone.

Suzanne said...

Oh wow, Deb are you watching? Looked like she was chasing that white bird, whatever it was away. Wish she'd get up to the chicks!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Wow, that momma is not a happy camper at all!

Lolly said...

Hi all! I am home from surgery. All went well. However, I can not see with this eye patch on. Going to go sit down and close BOTH eyes.

Can not read the blog, but couldn't believe the number of postings. Got scared!!!! But read enough to figure out you were watching a banding. Right?

Thanks for all the prayers. This patch comes off in four hours, go see the doctor in the morning, give it a day or two and then we will see if I can see TV better. :)

Have a great day! I won't be on. I just want to close both eys!

Suzanne said...

Take care Lolly, you'll feel better shortly. Glad it went well!
Thanks, Helen, talk to you Monday. you have a good weekend, too!!
Mom is still flying around, just wish she would come in and tell the kids they'll be alright!
Time for me to hit the road. All have a great weekend. Let me know if we get a new baby in Scotland!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I wonder if human contact like this at SJ has ever caused a parent to abandon the babies. This seems kind of cruel to me!

MITS said...

I don't think that is going to be a problem, Sharon..jmho.

wvgal_dana said...

Sharon you might remember the Harrisburg babies were banded last season. The parents came back and took care of them. They did ok .... if that will help you Sharon. ( :

wvgal_dana said...

One of the babies at SJ has walked out from between the wall and the nest.

wvgal_dana said...

The 2nd baby falcon at SJ is now out and they both are in the shade of the wall.....one more to go ( :

wvgal_dana said...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!! :) That is what the eaglets are saying about the food and not getting leaves for lunch.

Mema Jo said...

Check your email message.....

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I just did!! Thanks so very much. Check your email!

Mema Jo said...

I take it that you are saying to all
that
You Eagle Eyed Sharon
will be there!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

That is perzactly what I am saying! :)

Mema Jo said...

Remember that there will be an
Open House in October should you not be coming in June. Last open house I know that the adults were seen overhead!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

How close can we get to the tree since there are eaglets there this year?

paula eagleholic said...

Parent just came and went!

MITS said...

probably not as close as last July, but you can still see them with binoculars

paula eagleholic said...

You have to stay on the hard road

paula eagleholic said...

Did you see the goofy eaglet with a mouthful of leaves??

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Sure did! So funny!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I wonder if Sunday, June 8, will be market day for Megan.

Bird Girl said...

costumelady: "I was just thinking...if a Bird of Pr[e]y's feet are called Talons, what are the feet of small birds called....Talettes?"

ROFL

Actually, raptors' feet are called....feet! It's the claws that are called talons. On smaller birds, they are nails or claws :P But either way, they can be painful when dug into one's skin!

Mema Jo said...

I would plan on Sunday Market that weekend. I'll email Megan if she doesn't come in out of the GH soon & let us know.

deb said...

I just cam inside and could only see 2, finally found #3 way up top.

Mom falcon is laying on the roof with her wings spread out, not sure why she is doing that. Oh now she moved up in the box.

deb said...

There are pictures from this morning's banding on the mayor's page. I am sure glad it wasn't me that had to go down the side of the building.

SJ Banding

Picture #1 is absolutely beautiful.

Mema Jo said...

Thanks Deb! All 5 pics are great. I had no idea he came down with that far of a drop! Clara is a beautiful falcon - really upset with today's procedure but maybe a bird's memory has a very short span - Like mine is sometimes lol.........

movin said...

A very good Friday to you all.

It's turning out to be a very warm, sunny day in So Cal ... in the 80's.

Live feed with the Dolby Surround sound is up and working well today. Just saw several strenuous wing excercise sessions. I think these kids may fly one day.

paula eagleholic said...

Man o mighty! Look at all those wings flapping in our nest

Cool falcon pics....did they video it?

paula eagleholic said...

Our eaglets look all fluffy now :)

Lolly said...

Deb, thanks for the banding pictures. I love the pictures of the upset Momma. What a beautiful bird!

Eye patch is now off. Hurrah! Can not see, but I think it is getting better. I see mostly light with that eye. Interesting. Sitting around mostly with both eyes shut. Boring! It is also a beautiful day outside and here I am sitting inside.

Mema Jo said...

Lolly I am glad you are doing well
and that the operation is finished.
Tomorrow you will see your beautiful gardens!

deb said...

They did film the banding with his helmet can, but I haven't seen when they will put it out.

Glad you have your patch off, Lolly. Take the day and rest, tomorrow you can go looking at everything through a clear eye!

deb said...

I found more info on the banding video. The man who wore the cam and did the banding had others to do today, so it will probably be next week before it is ready for viewing.

paula eagleholic said...

Thanks, Deb

paula eagleholic said...

Our eaglets look all tuckered out after all that wingercising!

wvgal_dana said...

Just got back from getting a haircut...boys prices went up. I go to where I used to live area. Guess I will be going someplace closer. Between their raise in price and gas price to get there. Well change with the changes.

Lolly, I have been praying for you. Dear Ones, I got to chaperone a group of Medical Assisting students to Dollywood yesterday. The American Eagle Foundation has Eagle Mountain there and a bird show. There are so many eagles there. The last time I was there, there were not that many. They could easily become overcrowded. Lots of donations were made yesterday during the show. Oceola breaks my heart. All the eagles there cannot be returned to natural habitat. I hate seeing anything in captivity, but so happy to see they are well-cared for. I will send pictures as soon as I can. It is so cold here and rainy. It is what we call "Blackberry Winter". BBL donna

They sure are feeling the wind beneath their wings tonight.

ceil said...

Jo or Sharon before there was talk about their feathers. Remember right before Spunky fledged I think it was MissInbetween who was helping pick feathers

ceil said...

Fight at the nest.

ceil said...

All three were pecking at each other. One moved to the 12 position and the other two that were really pecking each other made up

Mema Jo said...

The leaves are just to make a dry floor on which to lay....I think

LOL Ceil - Ms Inbetween did help
get rid of some of the down on Spunky. Especially the ones Spunky couldn't reach on his back! I do remember that.

parent moving sticks. It was so cute remember Mits we didn't think Spunky would fledge. Needed help with feathers for maybe confidence. Mits Washington playing Orioles at Camden Yards. Washington 3 to 2 so far

The next big event associated with the Rachel Carson falcon family will be the banding of the eyases; all four seem healthy and are developing normally. The banding event will be live Webcast and 150 students and their teachers will witness the proceedings in the Rachel Carson State Office Building auditorium. The event takes place on May 22nd at 1 PM. Those who are interested in endangered species management and biodiversity education are invited to visit the DEP Website and watch as the young birds are assigned the alpha numeric codes that will stay with them the rest of their lives.
