I haven't checked temp yet, but seems nice. The pheasant is the state bird of SD, unfortunately I didn't take that picture.

Costume Lady I name some of the birds at my feeder. When white winged doves were uncommom at feeders in TX my pair were Winnie and Wilbur Whitewing. These days there is a pair of tree sparrows named Tess and Sam. I like your quote. One of my favorites is LET YOUR LIFE SPEAK

Norma, I let them out already. They have a few paths they use to get through the yard. When it is really cold, they can go right over the top of the snow. On days like today, they sink in. It isn't as deep as it was, but more coming tonight through Tuesday.

Oh about the deer cam. I know that acorns trees are around there a lot. See the squirrels hide them. The deer and turkeys scrape the ground and get them. Deer and turkey LOVE acorns. So there is always something to eat there. How do I know this. In our back where we use to live. Just outside our back fence where acorn trees. Squirrels even hide them in our yard. The deer and turkeys would come to that area outside the fence like the supply never quit.

Nilla had you read back a bit that Sandra and Danelle (her therapist) were on the blog. Danelle is now an Eaglet_Momster I believe. I think the date for Sandra to come home is still on her birthday Feb 6th. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
Sandra's computer must be upstairs because when they went to her house with her to look it over. They said when she took us upstairs she immedialely showed the the eagle site.
Remember to go in and re-lite a candle for Sandra. They do only last 48 hrs. after you light one.

I just checked candles (26 candles lite)...It is easy to lite one and then it go out. Time flys and you think it is still lite. Check your candles. Lets see if we can't get more lite for Sandra.

Nursing a sore head after last night, went out to friends for a wonderful Birthday dinner, mine, Franks and Ted's one of our friends, and ended up playing a silly " Murder Board Game", all we seemed to do was laugh and not concentrate, [one of those nights]

Game Chips are very thinly sliced potatoes almost like matchsticks, deeply fried and then drained and served with the foul, infact you can do the same to a lot of veg, my fav is courgettes after they have been dried after shredding as the hold a lot of water,,so yummy when crisp.
You are all welcome for a good feedup anytime, I love cooking and being brought up on a tyical English farm you learn early.
HAVE any of you ever tried Traditional English "Pork Pie",, made with hot water crust pastry, and suculent pork andsome while fat to keep it moist, and after it comes out of the oven a savory jelly is poured into it via the little hole in the top to surround all the meat,oooooooooo my mouth is watering now, we normall have it for picnics on a hot summers day with all sorts of salads, homemade pickles, hard boiled eggs, and what ever else takes your fancy at the time.
I'll shut up now about food, got to go an look at the food cooking.

Just dropping in to say I was at the refuge today taping incubation footage. I'll get it on the site later this week.
Our father eagle hasn't been terribly impressive in the food-delivery area. Normally he starts bringing food as soon as the eggs show up -- he didn't do that this year.
I also heard today from our ranger that mom had to fly over to the osprey platform and yell at him to go sit on the eggs.
So right now I'm glad we only have two eggs. I'm not sure he could handle three this year.
Of course we have no way of knowing for sure if this is the same male as previous years, but right now he's got some improving to do.

Nilla/Candy - I have looked in on her about 5 times today. I didn't see the egg but I noticed she was not standing but that she was lying down. I hoped it was because of an egg - I really didn't think it was until Spring time that eggs were laid! Oh Boy Oh Boy Another nest to watch... They usually have lots more then 1 egg. I'll keep you all posted! Did either of you get a pic of the egg?

02/03/08:
On Sunday, two Maryland birders reported seeing the first osprey of the year at an island in Point Lookout State Park.
That's a bit early for us -- we expect our cam ospreys back around the 2nd or 3rd week of March.
