Thanks for the new thread, Steven, and thanks for the heads up, Megan. Brought over from other thread:
Morning, Wanda! I've heard that on the news also, and I can verify that! Had my shot in Oct, got a bit sick, (thought it was a cold), but this bout has really kicked my butt!!!! It will keep you flat on your back very very sick! Sure hope they do better with the shots next year. A better guess-emate! But they are saying now that this strain will be included for next years shot.

Hello Suz. I am here. This flu is a horrible thing. Kicked my butt for a couple of weeks, couldn't even work for a whole week. I am starting to feel better now and so grateful for that.

Good morning everyone. its Monday. I like Monday. I always look forward to Mondays and maybe some news or new happenings around the NCTC cam. Oh shall I tell you my weather. Nah never mind same ole same ole. The dogs and I will still drive over to coffee and dog treats its still way too icy covered with just about a 1/4 inch of snow, for us to try to walk. But it is not longer 0...it is actually 32 degrees, but going down from there today with mix precip, so not expecting any thaw. No January thaw, and no February thaw I am so looking forward to July this year LOL.

Suzanne said...

LOL, well Sharon, you can call me a whimpy butt too! This flu is really rough!!! Don't know how I made it home Wed, but when I got home I fed the outdoor kitties, and laid down on the couch. Didn't wake up till 6, then fed the indoor cats and went to bed. Had the heat on in the car set to 83°. I was absolutely freezing. Sat had to get up and go to the store, I was out of cold pills, but laid right back down after I got home, and today is my first day up. A real butt kicker this flu bug!!!
Eagle still on branch in Maine.

Those Tesoro eaglets sure are huge now! They're up and moving around the nest. Can't believe how big they've gotten.
Eagle still hanging out in Maine. Thought Jim told me nobody had seen an eagle there after their intruders invaded. Don't know who this is hanging out.

Norma, the WildWatch owl in the owl hotel has 6 eggs.
Thanks, Wanda, but isn't that a nest you have to have NeoKast to view now? Can't download NeoKast to this machine. I remember Limeu, he was an awesome eaglet!! Yeah, who knew he'd end up in Nevada?
Morning, Dave! How's your nesting eagles doing? Any more eggs? No, didn't watch PBS last night, but sounds like I wish I would have! I'll have to check the schedule, they may show it again.

Dave, I will check tonight when I get home. Cam on raptors back sounds like awesome views! Sure hope they show it again, thanks for the heads up. Glad your eagles are doing well. You may know how many eggs when the little ones start getting big enough to be seen from your viewing angle. That will be fun to watch, specially when they start their wing flapping, then fledge. Oh how cool!!!
Morning, Anne! I'd like to have a nickel for every time I fall asleep on the couch with the TV on! That's the best sleeping pill in the world for me...TV, and prone position on the couch. I'm out like a light!

Oh, glad the baby isn't born yet. Last I read, it was early, so that's a good thing that she hasn't had it yet.
Glo, what's the URL for Pelican Harbor?

For Pelican Harbor you have to watch in Windows Media Player. Go to File> then Open URL Then put this is the space for url...

Donnie said...

Good Morning everyone.
I'm really new to this Blogging stuff. I stumbled on the NCTC eagle cam and figured out that the site is right across the river from where I live. I would like to know if there is a way to view the nest in person? Can you walk down the C & O Canal on the MD side of the river, or do they allow you to dirve back to the NCTC complex and veiw it up close?

deb said...

Welcome, donnie. I will let someone from the area answer your question. I do know that federal law keeps you form getting close to an eagle's nest.

Donnie said...

I did know about the law, however I have no idea how close you may be...

deb said...

I was just looking, I think it is 600'.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Welcome Donnie. They block off a parameter during nesting season that ends in June or July. Off season, you can go right to the barn and see it up close and personal.

Donnie said...

I'm really hoping that I could see it from across the River. I do not want to get so close. I have seen Liberty or Belle from time to time. I had know idea that they were nesting so close to my house. I'm really happy to know this... 600 ft would be far enough for me.

wvgal_dana said...

I believe that is the female in the nest at NBG

wvgal_dana said...

Wonder if she is hearing those squirrels. Or maybe thinking about laying an egg??

deb said...

I found two nests yesterday, both across the Missouri River on the Nebraska side. I put some pictures of them on my page. The first nest we found, I was pretty sure it had to be an eagle's nest, so we took a picture of it. When I opened the picture--Two Eagles! It was so much fun to find the nest had eagles in it. The pictures are not great, but you can see the nest and pick out the eagles.

wvgal_dana said...

I just seen the top of the egg at SC/PH. neat ( :

Jill said...

Karen and Donnie are examples of real eagle bloggers. They posted something other than a link like the 3 from the other day did.

WELCOME to both of you as well as Karen's kids.

Over the past few days we have had problems with spammers who just ask us to click a link which if done ends up being a virus or something.

wvgal_dana said...

Yep Paula who would have thought??? poof both gone

deb said...

It was a dress rehearsal at NBG!!

Suzanne said...

Time for me to hit the road. All have a great eagle/panda day. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!

Jill said...

Donnie-I am not sure you can see the tree from the canal. I wanted to try it last year but never got a good day that I could go. I know from the foot of the tree you cannot see the river but from the top of the tree you might be able too. There is also a boat ramp/park on the MD side that is fairly close to the nest. I wanted to go there too but never made it. BUT I WILL THIS YEAR.

Jill said...

Maybe she was faking it to see if the hussy would come back for the egg?

IrisF said...

Maybe NBG eagles just wanted a little "privacy"???

Norma it is 79degrees here today, sorry about that! ~8)

KarenInCali said...

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! :) I saw someone posted about an otter cam. I would love to see those, too! Can someone tell me how to find them? Thanks in advance! Lucky all you who are close to where eagles live! Don't have them in So. Cali but I did get to see some when I visited Oregon at an animal rescue center there. I got goose bumps LOL! They are soooo awesome!

deb said...

Karen, you do have them in So. Cal. Go to this website.

http://www.iws.org/

Donnie said...

Jill,
I'm going to walk the Canal right now. I'll fill everyone in when I return. I was just outside filling the bird feeders and it's a great day to be in the sun. I have everything I think I will need to get a good look.

Jill said...

Karen, I believe the otter cam is at the National Zoo in Washington DC. Just search National Zoo and you should find the home site. They have many cameras from pandas to sloth bears to otters. Oh and of course Normas flamingos.

MITS said...

Karen, the otter cam I watch is at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington D.C., they have alot of cams and info there about all kinds of animals, and like San Diego, we have Giant Pandas and Asian small clawed otters, they are too cute, they are the smallest of the otter family, you can just google National Zoo in D.C. and it will take you right to their site

Jill said...

I was always a little leary to walk the canal alone. Let me know next time you go, maybe I can join you.

Jill said...

San Diego's link is www.sandiegozoo.org.

I guess I haven't saved National since my crash.

Welcome, ah,but you have so many Eagles on Catalina Island and on Santa Cruz there is a nesting pair also. Might not be close enough to visit but they are awesome to watch. go to IWS.org I think.

paula eagleholic said...

Whoo Hooo Danelle! You will just love it!

KarenInCali said...

Thanks for the links! I checked out the cams on Catalina Island here in Cali and I can watch those at home but unfortunately, the use a different video player that I am not allowed to download on the school's computer :( I am so glad to know that S. Cali does have eagles again! Catalina is not too far away and I have always wanted to go there so maybe now is my chance! And I will check out those other cams, too. Didn't know there were so many! I have been watching Pete's Pond in Africa, also. You can see lots of animals there, too. Saw elephants, lions, all kinds of antelope and many other animals.

Jill said...

Oh Karen, you haven't seen half the links yet. The Norfolk Eagles cam is at www.wvec.com.
Blackwater eagles are www.friendsofblackwater.org. And there are many more. I only watch a few, some on here watch many many more. If you see somebody talking about a nest that interests you just ask, they will be happy to pass it on to you.

Jill said...

The first camera at Santa Cruz uses Microsoft media player Karen. The other use neokast. You might already have the microsoft one on the computer at school. Maybe if you asked you could get permission for neokast since the eagles are "locals".

KarenInCali said...

Jill, thanks for your help :) I have also been watching the other 2 nests you mentioned. Very interesting happenings at the Norfolk nest. I like watching the NCTC nest mostly because I like the way their cam is situated.

Jill said...

I lost a lot of my links when my computer crashed last fall. Still collecting them back. Beakspeak.com also has a lot of links to various nests around the country. They have many bird nests listed, not just eagles. Last year we were able to watch a Loon hatch and swim away. I think that was Minnesota but I am not sure. It was very interesting tho.

Jo is right outside of Frederick in Middletown.

Actually I work in Frederick, Live in Emmitsburg. Lived in Brunswick for 10 years prior to that...right next door to Knoxville.

well sheesh paula we were practically neighbors. I was a frequent customer at the Brunswick Pool from 1986-2002. I love that area. Emmitsburg is lovely too. I love taking rides up north and cruising the countryside in Frederick. I long to move back to the country. My fiance is from Georgetown and commutes to NIH each day. He's afraid to move any further west than Frederick from Bethesda. I'm trying to get him to think about Jefferson, Brunswick or Thurmont. I desperately need more garden room.

paula eagleholic said...

You all have so much wonderful information and pic's on the eagles. This is really exciting. I manage a local business in Frederick and end up with time on my hands later in the day. The live cam is awesome. Mits do you live or work in the Bethesda area? My fiance lived in the city all his life, born and raised in DC, so moving to Frederick was a challenge. He likes my little yorkies but still doesn't care for gardening, birds or too much of the nature thing. He'll adapt in time.

Cheryl my husband is not all that interested in all my eagle stuff. Listens though. Although when I couldn't drive to different functions we had. Or drive near the nest. My husband was right there taking me. He has become known to the Eaglet_Momsters lol..even helped out Paula to load her car with items she was selling at the Open House last season. Went to the Eagle Dinner we had even after I was able to drive. These men can surprise you sometimes. hee hee

Oh Jo where are you gal???? NBG has zoomed into an eagle on a limb in lots of pine concealing it. It just did the noted "poop shoot" lol

Hi Dana! Good to see you too.

Paula, you are sure right on that. He used to have to drive to Rockville. It was crazy! Although the drive to Frederick is really starting to wear on him.

Cheryl NBG the resident pair had 2 eggs already some thought 3. A young female eagle age about 4yrs old. Came in and attacked resident female and tried to take over the nest and the male. Since the 2 eggs where left alone so long they were not viable. Norfolk got certified people and permission to go up and get the eggs for science since they were not going to hatch. And the resident pair was not using the nest. Since for some reason (hopefully the resident male and female drove off the intruding you female). The pair has come back to the nest. Biologist say there is still time for this pair to lay another clutch. So you will see them moving this cam around. Looking for the eagles and zooming in.
Also at this nest in the bottom towards the front facing us lives a pair of squirrels. It was squirrels that did devastation to the Kent nest. So hopefully (sorry) the eagles will make them a lunch of squirrel meat.
Anyone can add here.
