Eggs.--Two eggs almost invariably make up a full set for the bald eagle, sometimes only one, and rarely three; in two or three cases four eggs have been found in a nest, but these may have been the product of two females. The eggs vary in shape from rounded-ovate to ovate, the former predominating. The shell is rough or coarsely granulated. The color is dull white or pale bluish white and unmarked, though often nest stained. Very rarely an egg shows a few slight traces of pale brown or buff markings. The measurements of 50 eggs from Florida average 70.5 by 54.2 millimeters; the eggs showing the four extremes measure 78.8 by 56.2, 71.1 by 57.6, and 58.1 by 47 millimeters. The eggs are ridiculously small for large a bird. (Compare the relative sizes of the eggs of the ruddy duck, the sandpipers, or the hummingbirds.) Consequently the little eaglet requires a long time to develop.
Young.--The period of incubation is about 35 days, according to the most careful observers, though it has been otherwise estimated. Both parents assist in incubation and in the care of the young. Mr. Nicholson tells me that at every nest he has visited after dark he has found both birds at the nest, one incubating or brooding and one perched near it. In one instance the incubating bird remained on the nest until the climber nearly reached it. Usually an eagle will leave its nest as soon as an intruder is seen approaching it, but occasionally one will sit closely until the tree is rapped. The food of the young seems to be about the same as that of the adult, to be referred to later. The behavior and development of the young will be discussed under the northern race, on which more information is available.

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 435 of 435It is 1:30 a.m. Got up to go potty and checked in. She was turning the egg and there is still only 1 egg. Going back to bed now.
I can't seem to get into the blog.....grrr. I guess if you don't use the right e-mail address you don't get in! LOLOL! So much for my fantastic memory. Anyway, may we all have a very eggciting day!
Good morning, world. Big note from Steven, I'll have to go read it. Not so bad out tonight, but foggy to very foggy in places. Temp was 36° in PA, 42° here in VA. No rain, no snow, no wind, can't be all bad.
Ok, want to see what I missed, and see if we have another egg.
All have a great eagle/panda/egg day.
Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
Well, looks like someone brought a huge fish in the nest, only a few bites taken that I can tell. But you may or may not get a pic... or half a pic. Every other refresh is black screen, then other refreshes are bottom half of screen black, then a whole pic. Darn and double darn, not a good time of year for the cam to get fussy!
It looks to me as though the time is changing but the picture is not...::SIGH::
EAgle just turned egg and is now standing and looking down at it. Still only see 1 egg.
Rolling the egg with closed talons.
Half black screen again! Grrrrrrrrrrrr
Hi Geula, didn't know you were still here! Eagle is up turning egg, you can see it clearly, but pic is refreshing with black and half black screen!
Think that may be Lib. He just doesn't take up the space Belle does. But keep loosing my pic!
Eagle moving away from egg to get a better long distance look at it. Now that's cute! Parent standing in front of Lib's perch watching the egg.
Oh, parent turned back on egg. Now looking back. Think it will multiply by itself???? Don't think so, Lib, and I think you gotta wait for Belle to take care of that! he's watching the egg like it's gonna do something.
Well, he's still standing on his perch watching the egg. Changes his head to different views, but hasn't moved other than to watch it. Would love to know what's going through his mind the way he's looking at that egg.
Lib just came in, turned the egg with his talons rolled up and is back on the egg. Guess he just needed to stretch his legs a bit.
BBIALW... Both parent eagles on their eggs. (BW & NCTC)
Turning our one egg again.
Good Morning to all you early birds
Today it's warm out with some heavy rain and thunder I have my

everyone has a great day
Dave
Good morning Suz and Dave. I see we still have just one egg. Hope we get another today.
Definitely praying for our Mits this morning that her surgery goes well and recovery is speedy!
Eggs visible in BWE! Ours too!
Eagle at BWO
BW back on eggs, our egg still visible.
Morning, Dave. Morning, Sharon. Dave, I'll have to go look at your pics.
Sharon, didn't think she wanted that made public.
Yup, only 1 egg still in our nest. BWE was off her two eggs a little while ago, but couldn't blog it right away, was on the phone.
This guy keeps watching his egg, he's too cute! (Talking about Lib)
EGGS VISIBLE AT BWE!
Lib left and Belle arrived to take over.
BWO eagle yelling at the cam, snowing like mad in Maine, and looks like Lib is gonna leave and here comes Belle.
Feeding in Tesoro, and BWE back.
Now that Belle is back, maybe we'll get egg number 2.
Suz, she put it on the blog last night.
Oh ok, Sharon. Have not read back to yesterday's blog(s). In that case, my prayers are definately with Mits this morning!
Deer in PA.
Good Morning Suzanne, Sharon, Dave, and Watchers.
We have eagle on egg finally. I've been watching. So glad our eagle is finally laying on the egg.
Morning, Dana. Except for a few minutes this morning when Lib was looking at the egg, he's been on it since I came in this morning. They just switched, this is Belle. Now since she's there, we're hoping for another egg.
GOOD MORNING SUZ AND SHARON...
Suz, we were up late last night watching Lib/Belle just sitting, for what seemed hours, in the same spot looking at the egg. He/She finally got back on the egg and we all went to bed. I thought it was weird. He was looking at that egg as if it had 3 heads.
GOOD MORNING DANA...
This is going to be a nice warm day; maybe Belle will be encouraged by the weather and give us another egg this morning.
NEW THREAD - COME ON OVER!
