Good morning everyone - thanks for the egg vigil and pics - I am lookin and lookin - she is definitely tuckered out now - sleepin, like I wish I still was.

floralgirl said...

Good morning ,belle. Wow, some of you were realy up late last nite! Tired after long day yesterday, let kid have computer all nite, so she could chat with friends.

belle_wv said...

Good Morning Floral gal - how was market yesterday, aside from tiring? You're such a considerate mom :) What plans for today? Back to watering, or are things still damp enough?

floralgirl said...

Yes, Belle, actually I just couldn't take the pouty look when I said I wanted to use the computer. Market wasstead yesterday, butquiet, everyone talking about what had happened. Spoke to the officer who was first on the scene, he was pretty shook up. Had some personal experience with suicide before, always a tragedy and always very difficult for those dealing with theaftermath. Put me in a chitty mood, everyone talking about it.

belle_wv said...

Yes I imagine things were quite somber. Did friends of the boys stop by for flowers to place near the site? I just can't imagine what would cause someone to think to do something so tragic.

Happier thoughts - Frieda is soon if not already going to have her little fuzzballs on the outside of the eggs! It is a gorgeous day - thinking it might be a nice ride to the sycamore tree day... I'm up early to get my lesson plans done so I can maybe go over.

belle_wv said...

Mei is outside wandering around - haven't seen Tai yet..

belle_wv said...

Nothing new on Lun Lun since yesterday's hopeful note that she's exhibiting more signs of mommyhood

OOps, sorry walked away to feed the birds, had to watch the hummers for a few.Oh, I will miss them when they leave:( Yesterday there lots of kids(students) talking about it, aparently there were several witnesses to the scene. Pretty rough way to start the school year. Makes you think about a lot of unspoken issues. Anyway, you are right it is beautiful outside. No watering, no mowing, no work for me today! I am taking this holiday off, proably take a ride after breakfast to get paper, bringing binoculars, cause we will go to Shep. and I know hubby will turn at Shepherd grade for me. Huge bird in my yard this morning, some kind a hawk, crows are attacking this poor bird, been out twice to get rid of them. Couldn't tell what it was, took off to fast and landed in my woods, where the crows are yelling at it again. Hate those birds. In my yard you don't need an alarm clock, if the blue jays don't wake you up, the mockingbirds will!

belle_wv said...

LOL I hear you about the birds! Take your camera too for your visit! I'm glad you're getting the day off :) You need one after the summer you've labored through!
When is it time to take the hummers feeders down? My mom asked me yesterday - is it first frost? Or earlier?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

PROOFREAD AND FIXED! I DELETED FORMER COMMENT!
Good morning everybody. I stayed up way too late last night but not as late as some. I thought I saw a cracking egg last night but in looking at the new pics. don't know if I did or not. More will definitely be revealed.

floralgirl said...

Don't take your feeders down til you don't see any hummers anymore. The hummers in your yard will leave when they are ready, and many times other birds passing by your yard will stop and feed. They need all the food they can get now, it is a long journey they take. And they know when to leave, keeping your feeder out won't confue them, they are smart. Some of ours have really gotten big, filling up for the trip. I will have to check and see when our final sighting was last year, I have kept track for about 6-7 yrs. Will depend on the weather conditions also.

belle_wv said...

Sharon, what'd you fix? The first one looked fine to me - and I got the idea :) Frieda is rolling/checking those eggs in the dark.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Tai and Mei are sleeping.

MT nest at NU but there was one there earlier!

2 osprey at BW.

MT nest at Maine.

Baby Smurf at CT, now gone.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Baby Smurf's nest is looking horrible. Glad he is not needing it as much now. Ernesto really wreaked havoc on it for sure.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Belle, I misspelled "stayed". Couldn't keep it on there.

belle_wv said...

Glad Ernesto waited until the nesto was emptyo. e-i-e-i-o o? SOrry - I don't think I got enough sleep last night. Went to bed thinking about hatching eggs, woke up a little after 5 and was doing lesson plans in my head, got up before 6 after giving up dozing off again.

belle_wv said...

Have you looked at the pics that Jo and Nilla captured last night? there are a few my computer won't open, but the other ones look very promising for today being the day for at least two of the lil ones to break out of their shells...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Still 2 osprey at BW.

wvgal_dana said...

Good Morning those of you that could make the "stay up watching Frieda Show". I couldn't hang in there with you. Is there any pics Sharon anywhere that we can go look at?
Good Morning to Everyone also lurkers.

I can't believe my dogs let me sleep in until 9. Let them out, made coffee & turned th Today Show on. Steve Irwin, Croc Hunter was killed in a freak accident. Did you hear?

MITS said...

HAPPY LABOR DAY EVERYONE Looks like we are going to have a bunch of sleepy people on the blog today. I bet its only the crazy Americans that care enough to keep an eye on her, she is so lucky to have the Eagle Momsters looking after her.

belle_wv said...

OMG no I didn't hear - what happened? That's so sad, but I guess he did live a life of taking a lot of risks - he has young children :( poor dears

MITS said...

Yes, Cindi, I heard that, got poisioned by something, only 44 yrs old.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

About Steve Irwin:

The 44-year-old media personality and environmentalist died on Monday when a stingray barb punctured his chest while he was filming a nature documentary off the coast of Port Douglas in north Queensland.

MITS said...

I didn't think stingray could hurt you

wvgal_dana said...

I just got finished reading that. It said it pierced under the chest rib and right into the heart. Otherwise it wouldn't have killed him. Left behind of course his wife, daughter 8 and son soon to be 3. I so enjoyed watched the family on tv. So so sad. Terri was such a part of his life and his kids. He will be truly missed by them.

belle_wv said...

Ouch - how terrible! He lived a life trying to share what he loved with the world. At least he died doing what it appears he loved to do. Prayers to his family.

It happened not far from (relatively) where we're watching so intently. Queensland...

Mits - I bet there aren't too many watching right now - but I am-she is awake and fairly quiet, but I think those eggs are wigglin underneath her and keeping her up... hope Frodo brings her a nice snack.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Frodo needs to bring her a nice steak dinner. She deserves it!

wvgal_dana said...

I checked out Lil Smurf this morning. Yesterday the wind was up very badly, blowing the opposite way that Ernesto did. Look today and again the rain must have poor. The banks of the river had receeded yesterday. Today they are overflowing again.
Poor guy.

glo said...

Good morning all. I have this confession to make. This was not the first site I opened today. had to load Freida in the dark LOL
Then I headed straight here to read any later night news than when I went to bed. Saw maybe I should check my email for pics. Yep some awfully nice pictures were there Thanks Jo. I knew if I went to bed she would start moving around some !anyway. LOL.

So after I read the BLOG of ocurse I hear this email arrive, and it is a new video of Elia perfecting her walking skills. Lets jsut say Mom and dad are going to have a very busy Labor Day!!

Then I headed over for Dog treats and coffee late. I told you i was ona tight schedule. came back and looked at Freida. Reread the BLOGs, and uploaded Elia's Video. Now I can finally say Good Morning. It's not that I haven't been around though. LOL.

I am going to go fix a good breakfast, and will come back and recheck Freida and the BLOG. I sispect by the time I get this written Steve will start a new thread....LOL.

wvgal_dana said...

I thank Belle for sending me the pics...thank you very much.
I thank Nilla and Jo for staying up later than this gal could do it.

paula eagleholic said...

Glo, classes start Wednesday, they have various informative and fun activities today and tomorrow, dinner w/ the president, bingo, talent show, etc. Think some activities are just for freshman, others are for everyone.

wvgal_dana said...

Belle won't they let you take a chair in there?

wvgal_dana said...

No update for today on LUN LUN yet.

belle_wv said...

Dana never thought about taking a chair - I've been looking at those cushioned stadium seats with the back rest... I'll see what I can find out today about seating options :) thanks for the idea - do have those collapsible chairs....

belle_wv said...

Osprey osprey everywhere. When do they start to migrate? Or do they stay in the area? I can't recall now.

MITS said...

1 osprey in the nest at BW

glo said...

OK Video is all loaded. You know you don't want to miss this video, LOL Its kind of like watching Big boy going from crash landings to "somewhat graceful approaches". More Let's pretend I guess, but ya know just kind of depends on the species What Soar like an eagle means This little one is well on her way.

On Sept 6 it will be one year since they first saw and held her at the Orphange It wasn't long from then, that they began the journey to bring her home, and here she is!!!

http://eliasgrammie.blogspot.com/

MITS said...

I can't see anything except the shadow of Freida, have a hard enough time when it is light and most of the time it is not refreshing at 10 seconds. BELLE, they are usually migrating right now.

MITS said...

Mei is letting Tai nurse for a long time this a.m.

paula eagleholic said...

Look at CT, fish hanging right in front of the cam

paula eagleholic said...

Looks like water is starting to recede there again..Must be up on the cam tearing the head off the fish

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Now that is an up close and personal view of a poor fish for sure!

paula eagleholic said...

Just flapped the fish into the cam! That's how those pics get smeary looking!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

They are getting stuff all over the camera lens from that fish. That is really going to make for beautiful viewing.

belle_wv said...

that looks like one fat fish.... I love seeing the shadow of those wings too - such a sharp angle at the 'elbow'

belle_wv said...

Oh Sharon wax is coming up where are you?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I think that fish was still alive a minute ago. It appeared to be bending its tail! YUCK!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

wax

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

YES, YES, WAX FOR ME!

belle_wv said...

CT Osprey has smudged up the lens of the camera with that fish, I think. It was so crystal clean from all the rain...

MITS said...

That's funny with the fish smacking into the camera.

paula eagleholic said...

I would have to agree w/ Mit's earlier comment (last night or yesterday), about that CT cam. They did a heck of a job, that cam really survived Ernesto w/ flying colors!

belle_wv said...

Congrats Sharon, more wax :)
Norma good to see you in here :)

gorgeous day we're having. Should be great for the kids game. First home game - not sure how many will show up with it being postponed and on the holiday.

MITS said...

Congrats, SHARON I saw that tail flapping.

belle_wv said...

CT osprey seems to have gotten the fish 'in hand' and settled in to eat - I guess the nest is too soggy for a comfortable dining location...

MITS said...

Thanks, Paula, They did a fantastic job, but, I think they have done this before.

MITS said...

MT nest at BW...

wvgal_dana said...

Sharon congtrs on MORE wax !!

Hi Norma nice to hear you in here.

Glo you know I'll check her out lol

Hi Paula

Lisa at Blackwater said theirs has already moved on. Don't know when others do. Funny you would think Conn. and New Hamshire would have moved on before Blackwater.

paula eagleholic said...

Absolutey gorgeous day here, not a cloud in the sky, beautiful sunshine, light breeze...ugly turkey vultures soaring beautifully overhead...

paula eagleholic said...

See that fish is still getting flapped around at Papa smurf nest...

paula eagleholic said...

Dana,
I agree. I thought the more northern birds would have already started migrating, too.

wvgal_dana said...

I wish they could give us a pic on Lun Lun in her nesting box. To be put up when you go into cam. Just that still pic there would be nice.

Saving an endangered spieces

Going to check out a site I read in the newspaper. It's about a woman that is saving chimps. That have spent years in cages cold and too small for them to stand up in. Use as experiments. When she gets a male they have a vasectomie. She doesn't believe in breeding in captive.
Riding in a golf cart around the 200 acre compound. She told the news, "Thaat's the old lady running for the firt time in 40 years". Proudly pointing to Lisa, a shiny black 45 year old who spent 43 years in labs after she was captured from Africa as a baby.
Some were hairless and starting to get their hair back.
Most chimps on the island are in their 40s and maybe have another decade left to live. She has 93 now.
She's managed to do what no one else has done for the endangered species, building what she says will be the largest chimpanzee refuge in the world. When it's complete in 2008, 291 chimps will roam virtually free on 12 islands, dotted with jungle gyms, hammocks , tire swings and NO CAGES.
Right now she has a staff of 69 to run the place.

Norma yes on the last name - don't think it's a relation to my hubby, but it is possible - some of my hubby's great grandfather's family is rather 'lost' from the geneology.

Ok Blog is really loading slow for me. I will try to be on here pretty regularly today if the BLOG holds up. I can't tell that anyone went to see my little fledgling emporving her flying skills. I hope some of you will , especially if the BLOG goes down and you find yourself looking for something cute at least to watch. .I could put some feathers on her, or make her a Panda costume for Halloween LOL Well anyway i am a grandma, and I have to enjoy her from afar and brag on her in cyberspace...so here it is one more time. it is sentimental for us, as the anniversary of first finidng her at the orphanage is only 2 days a way. What a difference a year has made, and that little girl has made in our lives.

http://eliasgrammie.blogspot.com/

Thanks for going to check her out dana. Thanks for the info on the chimps. That is a sad story in its own way, but I am glad it is having a happier ending for those chimps.

Norma CLARIFY: do you want a real picture of an eagle OR do you want a picture of a real eagle! I am being very grammatical about this pic you want LOL

Frustrated and back LOL. Lunch time now. Blogger is still kind of yucky BUMMER!!!

Sharon, I also was watching the Big Cats at DC - I was hoping to catch them in the outside area. I love the pics of the catoctin zoo white tiger cubs that Suzanne sends in. They really grow fast.

They have been showing Tian Tian for a few minutes in his den. He is gorgeous!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Wonder if, in a couple of hours, we are going to see a new little falconette?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Eaglet in the NU nest! Really, Glo, there is! :)

Sharon : It's starting to get a little light in Brisbane...... Did you post any of the photos on Momsters'? I think Nilla said she sent some to Brisbane (would have been the same as what I took)
Houw about the one where she stands over the 2 very visible eggs and looks down at them. I took for certain I was going to see one crack open... You know how exciting that was - like the feeling when Spunky took first flight!!!!

Well Normabyrd, we sure can fix you up with an eagle pic!

glo said...

Man I turned it onto fullscreen, went to get my lunch, came back at its gone. I am getting sadly frustrated over here now!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I didn't post any picture on Momsters. Should I? I figured you all had about the same ones I did.

Mema Jo said...

Had to put NU cam up - I missed him. He'll come back I know....

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I think Normabyrd needs a pic of RCB by hers! :O)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

He just did a jump I think to a branch at about 9 o'clock. He hasn't gone far.

Just Vicky said...

I have a question??? Is Norma on the momsters group??

Mema Jo said...

I love the "A" for Andrew sticks in the NU nest. Could also be a "V" for Victory and a beaver chewed log across the V for BEAVERS.............

Mema Jo said...

I'm gonig to post some of mine from last night - just going to try to keep them in sequence of timing. Can I start with the one you did of the 3 eggs?

Vicky Dear,
Norma is in the group!

glo said...

Congrats paula LOL Messes with my theory about how closely together the same person can make a post though which add anotheh suspect to the anonymous "cat" night LOL

Just Vicky said...

Paula, were you the one I was talking to about an insect that looks like a hummer??? I now have a good picture of one my husband just took and now I need help to identify the critter!
