I've read the comments from earlier this morning. Suzanne those eagles just won't let you drive without following you! Good information from Delphia (Birdgirl) on hatching eggs. Good morning turnout on the blog - everyone checking for new info on LunLun & Frieda. There is a steady light rain that just started here in the valley.
I haven't had time to check emails - getting myself ready to go out of here for an appointment. BBL

I knew from TV documentaries that vocal sounds can be exchanged by chicks and mother birds before hatching, but I am always amazed at how long before they can do it.
Yes, it could be Verbana, which is considered a noxious weed in Australia, and they have extermination squads trying to eliminate it.
I looked it up in Wikipedia, and I immediately recognized the flower and berry from ground cover we have at work. I had noted the berry looks like any segmented berry ... raspberry, blackberry ... with only a few segments. I thought the berries, which only grow here and there in our groundcover, were probably strays dropped by birds, but they belonged to the area after all.
The berries are poisonous by the way ... at least to humans.

I tried to get a better look at the egg using Photoshop, but the resolution of the cam image is not high enough for me to get a good zoom in... it does seem like there is some kind of notch, but maybe it's just a leaf stuck to the egg, who knows?

you can't keep the Freida picture on top, but you can resize your windows so they fit side by side instead... waiting for her to get off the eggs to see what's what... if i see anything, i'll be sure to post!

mema jo thanks! i didn't see your comment before :-) actually, it's an eagle owl -- they have bright orange eyes. i have a friend who is a falconer, and he has an eagle owl named Amy. he's from England originally, and brought her from there -- going through all the paperwork and government hoops and quarantine. she's a gorgeous owl, and larger than our GHOs.

As for real player, it is under view, then check keep on top while playing.
HAHA! Yeah, bird girl just seemed to fit... I've always loved animals, all animals, but never had much experience with birds until about 8 years ago, when I started volunteering at a now-defunct songbird rescue & rehab center. that's where I met Jody, and when that place folded, Jody & I created Fallen Feathers ;-)
I'm hoping to get a new license plate this year, BIRDGRL -- one of our volunteers just changed hers to AVNRESQ !

Howdy all - it is after 5 did anyone get a LunLun Update? I think Nilla said she had to work 'til 4 and was looking forward to heading home then... she maybe stopped for some dinner? I know I am hungry. Had a nap and then a few phone calls, now time to figure out what is dinner.
Our wait is over!
Lun Lun gave birth at September 6 at 4:51 P.M. Both the cub and mother seem to be doing fine. We have very little to share at this moment, but will keep posting updates daily about Lun Lun's and the cub's progress.

Oh that was so exciting to post - I am so happy for her! She gave birth just in time to make the 5pm daily post - so sweet of her! I would've cried if it had been another psuedopregnancy - 3rd was the charm for her for sure!!!
LOL Well now is that ever cool news to get back up from a nap with. I sure hope Freida is paying attention to this information. Time to see some little fuzz balls next to her too!!
Glo - GMTA - I was just thinking the same thing - hopefully Frieda will catch the 'baby fever' but it is all up to the chicks at this point - lots of hard work for them to get out of their shells....

Oh My God. She was sitting with her back to one of those logs and I was thinking that looked like a birthing position. I am so excited!!!!!!!! And the camera shut down for the day. She was having that baby with her back to us. She wanted privacy!!
What happy news - I can't imagine how she'd have felt if there was no baby again... that psuedo pregnancy thing is bizarre

Sharon freida does get up. She usually starts a little after 9 pm my time which well you know a little after you have won the 10pm wax your time and keeps us all up as long as she can fromt hat point on. Won't be too long now.

Something on the news about the water from the potomac river causing fish to turn from male to female - I wonder what that will do to our eagles who eat the fish - I sure hope it isn't another DDT all over!
Now, how is that possible, to turn a fish from a male into a female. Does their wacker fall off!
LOL I don't think they have that to worry about - but they do start producing eggs - very scary for our eagles who eat so many fish from the river - they've found the messed up fish from Harper's Ferry clear down to the city
Mei just moved & so Tai got a ittle more comfortable... I like his pillow.
They are so cute together - I hope Lun Lun and her baby are lucky enough to have as great a relationship in the months ahead.

Okie Dokie we all are grandmaws ..lol I couldnt get on the blog today from work and i watched her most of the day sleeping in her hammock n eating bamboo by the window.. Never thinking she would have the cub less than anhour after i left work.. Well now Freida need to get off the pot and get those eggs hatched tonight as i am off work tomarrow and cam watch for awhiel tonight... Yeah Jo called me while i was getting a manicure and told me about the cub.. No Jo i didnt even buy any sweets just cat food for the hair ball and litter.. Wow this siexcitng does Thelma know???? Jo didnt you say she was on her way to OC?

Animal management staff continues to closely watch Lun Lun for a potential second birth. Twin births occur nearly 50% of the time in the species. The second birth could occur up to 12 to 24 hours after the first.... She could have another!!!!!!!!!!
I hope they put them on the site then when I get back I can go in and look at them.

OMG. I didn't know there were pictures. It looks like a little rat! How cool and then they turn out to look like Tai! I had to laugh when I saw it. I bet she didn't much trouble giving birth to that little thing. Now I am wondering -- was that her we have been watching? Cause I was watching up until they turned the camera off at 5 p.m. and she was sitting leaned up against that log looking structure with her back to the camera. Does anybody know?

Dana went to El Ranchro for Mexican food and saw the nail place close by so i went in i swear they neevr spoke aword of english and also she didnt evenhave the nail polish on my nails ( which was mine i had in pocket book) she is saying you want to pay now before paint nails?? Grrrr yeah i payed and she painted and they look terrible she painted over wet nail polish quik quik quik Grrrrr did i tip her hell No..
4:51 p.m. is when the little baby was born!
They want you to pay for your nails first before they do them so you won't mess them up digging the money out and then they have to redo them!

I had never watched Mei after giving birth to Tai to see how the staff got him away from her for an initial exam. I'm not even sure after his birth if she was on the cam. I guess Mits would know.
OMG I JUST READ SHE HAD ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION FROM HIS SPERM THEY COLLECTED... Now my mind is racing and vivid pictures arising..lol I know how they collect horses sperm bet its a similar situtation.. I know TMI...lol

Yea, Jo, it did. He's a good kid. Had a nice chat about classes, professors, work load, etc. Talked for 30 min or so. Things are so far, so good.
Well had surprise visit from a friend so haven't been in here yet tonight. The way I see it htough Freida should be getting off the eggs in the next 30 min or so.
