Friday

I'm up in CT and just looked at the cam. We have replaced the video card, thus the more reliable signal. I was worried about the flapping I saw, thought it was tape. I called the NCTC, and they told me they had seen it too and had headed out with a spotting scope. One of the eagles was on top the camera flapping in the wind to dry out. And a piece of tape is now loose. Keith is working to get the tree folks back up ASAP.

More later.

Tuesday

Things seem to be back to normal at the nest.

The pair was back in the nest soon after the tree service left. Around 4:00 pm yesterday the pair was there and at one point one of them seemed to be looking at the cam.

Looks like there's been more action this morning as well.

One More

Monday take 2--In the Nest

Here are some shots from this morning. Thanks to Nu for his great work. The cam is mounted in a way that makes precision aiming difficult. We think that the shot we have will work pretty well.

Monday

New thread.

Work on the cam this morning. The system is not powered fully, so I don't think the cam will make it to the web right now.

We'll take some pictures and post them.

Wednesday

Happy day before Thanksgiving. As you've noticed, the cam is having power issues. We have ordered a new solar panel, a new battery, some other electronics, and will have the tree service in, hopefully next week, to do some trimming up around the cam before things get busy on the nest.

Couple this work with the new website and streaming video, and we'll be ready for the next nesting cycle. So bear with us as we get this work done.

Want to also thank our new IT guy, Rob, for his excellent work in making the new live cam work.

Saturday

Rainy Day thread.

We've been working on the cam on several fronts. We plan on some fast maintenance up in the nest hopefully next week.

We have also set up a new, flash-driven live feed that will be run out of NCTC. We hope that will make things more reliable over the past couple of years.

More on this soon.

Friday

Afternoon thread. Here's a message from a biologist friend:

"Hi all, just wanted to report that I saw four eagles, one mature and three juveniles, flying in a line right over Shepherd University and over the new solar house- heading west and very low. Several students saw them too. It was great! Don't know if they were our NCTC birds - no way to tell. Perhaps it was one of our parents and the eaglets from this year flying to their summer roost? Craig Koppie said that it could be or that this is the time of year juveniles from other years at NCTC (under 4-5 years old) and also eagles from other areas are moving around and looking for nesting/ territory sites. "

Thursday

New thread.

We passed a milestone a couple of weeks ago that I didn't notice at the time. We are now at post 1017 for this blog. Thanks to all who help make the NCTC Eagle Cam Daily an active and vibrant world-wide community for folks interested in eagles and all other critters as well. A thousand posts about a nest in little Shepherdstown, WV is a lot!

We did some work yesterday to cut back trees that were interfering with the microwave signal from the nest. In addition, our guys are planning for the next season, which will happen sooner that we all think. We're working on some technological improvements to allow more reliable video. More on that later.
