Must have been the display at Antietam Battlefield.

Costume Lady said...

In years past, we have driven by the battlefield area, and cars are parked alongside the road for at least a mile...parking lots, jammed packed full. Must be a beautiful display for so many parked early in the afternoon to get placed!

Costume Lady said...

We are having our yearly GG picnic at her house, this evening. Fireworks take place directly across the road from her house...a powerfully, beautiful view. They explode right over our heads...awesome! One year, we had to pick up fireworks remains from the yard, and that was too close for comfort! Don't know why that happened that year.
Family coming over from Winchester and Margy and Lynn are, also coming. Haven't checked out the forecast...hope there's no storms tonight. Fireworks start at 9:30pm.

Wish I had something important to talk about...I have this stage all to myself!

Guess I will open the Woodwright Coffee Cafe and get this wonderful day started:)

Good morning, Wanda . Happy 4th.

Good Morning Wanda and Shirley.

Yes Wanda Antietam Battlefield
fireworkds display is beautiful. People do go so early to hear music and have spots where they want. There are miles and miles of cars. When it is over there is a slow for hours miles and miles of cars coming down Sharpsburg Pike. We (Ed and me) first lived in Antietam Manor just off the Sharpsburg Pike by the Battlefield Bible Church which we attended and help build onto.

I hope you and the family and Lynn and Margy have a wonderful time tonight.

I am praying someone comes into my Mothers and sets and watches the fireworks from her house. Like they use too.

THELMA, I like your way of thinking ! We honor the memory of our dear partners best by recalling the good times ! You are surrounded by people who love and suppport you and that means so much. I'm blessed with the same kind of support system ! Much to celebrate in spite of our losses !♥

Kay said...

LINDA, that is a beautiful picture ! Thanks for sharing !

WANDA, what a great location GG has for this particular celebration ! Hope the wind is blowing the other way tonight and that it will be a Glorious 4th for the entire clan as well as our dear MARGY and LYNN !

HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA

I finished reading the blog from yesterday. I just can't keep up with it sometimes. I took notes so my comments may be old...lol

Missed visits from Belle and Truder--my but those leaves are growing as we watch.

One time when we were camping in east TX, a tree fell during a storm and some baby cat squirrels were displaced. The park ranger said "oh, the 'coons will get them tonight". Not wanting that outcome, we rescued them and named them Vickie and Albert from a book I was reading at the time about Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. We bottle fed them and DH built an outdoor cage when they weren't interested in tree climbing. Vikie lived for 6 months, and Albert for a couple of years. That was about 30 years ago. Today I would have taken them to a wildlife rehab facility.

grannyblt said...

And to continue my comments--

Margy, I have a Big Ben wind-up clock as a back-up. It must be 40 years old, but still works.

My parents had a friend whose name was John Hancock. At an early age he perfected the signature seen on the Declaration of Independence. He loved it when someone said "just put your John Hancock right here".

I am going to be like Kay today--a "hermitess". I'll watch the programs on PBS, then the local fireworks from the front porch.

wvgal_dana said...

Good Morning Lynne-Grannyblt. Nice to see you in on this USA Birthday.

How are things in PA? If your still here. Will you be watching with someone the fireworks?

wvgal_dana said...

Well I see while I was writing my comment. You wrote a comment where you will be watching fireworks from your porch.

Hope you have a nice time of enjoying the beauty of them.

hedgie said...

Getting started....see I missed a lot last night before I said goodnight! Answering a couple of questions/comments:

Lolly, the young bear cub ran across the road in front of us up at Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area near here. Friends and I had gone up to see the eagles---but they were too far away for any real viewing! But think we do know now where the nest is!

Margy, thanks...I was actually 17 when Gretchen died from the storm...we got her when I was 7.

Good morning! Took me forever to read the blog!

Jack and I have returned the trailer and he is now out watering pots. Need to go join him. He gets one hose and I get another. Takes a while! Learned why I lost some lawn...sprinkler head was stuck in one place. Jack has replaced it.

Have learned this morning that my signature has suddenly become much larger. LOL Actually, it is larger than Jacks, which is a small scribbled mess. And, folks, he is very intelligent! So, shoot down that theory!!

Lynn, was hoping you had seen the bear at your home. Fantastic that you saw one. We were sitting outside enjoying a glass of wine when the man at a neighboring site, called out, did we want to see a bear? Boy, did I go running. His dog had alerted us to his presence. There he was on a low bluff, not far away. He was big and cinnamon colored. The man lives there and he sees this bear frequently. All I could say was OMG OMG OMG!!!! LOL His dog alerts him whenever the bear makes an appearance.

Okay, (not OH, Kay!) need to join Jack. BBIALW

HAPPY 4TH!!!!!!!

wvgal_dana said...

Hedgie-Lynn or Judie What did the Judge say that he is going to talk to some of the Jurors about? Why are some Jurors going not going to be allowed in the room with the other Jurors?

Hoda said...

GOOD MORNING ALL.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY

KAY Thank you for the Jefferson Letter. History proves he is right...an inspiration not only to the USA but also to the WORLD...who would have thought it INALIENABLE RIGHTS...GOD BLESS THE USA

What we all have to remember that with rights come responsibilities and this is why it is so important to remember to celebrate the fourth of July.

JUDY E I have to go find out what the Canadian papers are saying about Dragon Boats in Prince Edward Island. I learn things from this blog before I learn them from the papers sometimes.LOL. Prince William will co-pilot a Seaking helicopter today as part of a Search and Rescue on water exercise.

hedgie said...

Oh, Kay.....discombobulated was always one of my granddad's favorite words! I use it now and again!!!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, SISSY AND TOM!!!!!

Wanda, glad you aren't suffering any major ill effects from your spill!

JudyE---no idea why tuTV isn't carrying today's broadcast, but HLN is. Only jury instruction remains---coming up in a few.

hedgie said...

Lori, please keep us posted about your Mom...scary.....adding her to my prayer list. Will you be able to go if she has to have surgery?

Kay, your favorite radio personality is LORI, right??

Hi, T-bird! Good to see you!! I am slowly catching up with you all....judge is giving the jury their final instructions....

hedgie said...

Did they say where the dragon boat visit will be for TRC?? Too bad it's not in Nelson.

Hoda said...

Prince William and the Duchess in Prince Edward IslandYES JUDYE DRAGON BOATS IN PEI

wvgal_dana said...

Hedgie-Lynn Thanks so it is just the Judge is giving the Juror their instructions.

Hoda said...

LYNN Your comment last night touches my heart...I know gratitude. Thank you.

Hoda said...

Dalvay by the Sea is where TRH will have a picnic and watch the Dragon Boat Racing and also The Prince will co-pilot a Seaking Helicopter for a "waterbirding" practice, landing a helicopter on water...

hedgie said...

Oh, Thelma....Happy Anniversary to you, too. A very special day of remembrance for you, I know. That it is on Independence Day speaks volumes...so sorry you are having to celebrate it alone. Try to keep your spirits up, as Donna would want you to do.

Margy and I will be at Wanda's Mom's for dinner and fireworks with them and Gene, Thelma! Our 3rd year doing so!!

Pretty pic on bing, Lunda!!

Kay said...

Yes, LYNN, I listen to 97.1 FM Washington, on line, most weekday mornings from 5 to 9. Good music, good news coverage, health and household tips and a lot of entertaining stuff like the signature tidbit. I like getting a D.C. slant on things as it feels like the city belongs to all of us, no matter where we live ! LORI is a true pro, a natural and her delightful personality comes right through the airways. You can hear the smile in her voice !

Lori O. said...

LYNN, Yes, I'll go to PA whenever she has the surgery. This week or next week. I am scared. We've been through so many scares with her already. And, she's a tough little lady...we call her 100mph Nancy because she's like the energizer bunny. She's 71 and says she's been really tired and sleeping a lot lately. Doctor says it's the leaking valves.

Appreciate any prayers for my Mom, Nancy.

hedgie said...

Wanda, my Mom and I went to Antietam one year. It was really nice, but LOTS of walking! And we were pparked along the highway probably almost a mile away!

Lori O. said...

Oh KAY - you're too kind. My face is all hot and red. Perfect, I'm a hotdog for the Fourth.

(((BIG HUG))) for being so sweet!

hedgie said...

Lynne1---what a good story about your squirrel rescue! Were you living in that area, or did you transport them east?? DH??? Who is that, please?

Kay---so what IS the answer to the Hancock signature? Just that it was big and bold?

Jefferson is definitely one of the smartest men who ever lived....love reading his wisdom---and it is all so very appropriate in this world today.

hedgie said...

Dana, judge has some special instruction to alternate jurors. No one knows who they are, so he will have to do it seperate.

wvgal_dana said...

Almost all caught up on comments.

Judie thank you for connecting Casey and Baez.
I was wondering about that?

Shirley glad to hear you got a laptop.

Lolly watching them from up high in Michael's office. That will be really nice. See you said you, Jack and Laurel and Joey and the boys are going to North Texas University Stadium for fireworks. Well that should also be very
enjoyable.

Hoda So glad you will be enjoying the 4th. Loved your America The Beautiful ( :
So nice that you will be celebrating with us.

Lori how old is FloBear?
My older dog I thought has Alzheimer's. Vet said it is called "old dog syndrome".
Judie and Lynn good advice for Lori to check hearing of FloBear.

Hedgie-Lynn Have you tried the "Bitter Apple" spray? Works good especially on legs of tables, chair and etc.

JudyE Reading your comment about your Dad driving over the Royal Gorge when that cigrette came back into the window. If I remembered it burnt your butt. That's a "high up bridge" train
stopped under it. For us to see how
high up it was.

Sunday while I was good. Thank you all for the good comments on eagles visit to the nest.

Margy I am glad you and Master James ( :
had a wonderful time on Sunday. Finding treasures at Swinging Bridge. Glad you got in the water!!!!
See James found you a nice wing up clock!

Margy Oh seeing a bear looking in my window. Now I'm not too sure of that.
I agree with your sister on that on"she was quite frightened".

LOL I did get to see a bear. When we were finished with the Cavern. Walking back to the car. No I didn't take a picture of it.
Thought I should have afterwards.
It was a statue of a bear LOL

Oh Hoda a "door bell ringing bear"
Still though I bet you were frightened. LOL

I enjoyed reading about the officer. Sending the cub on its way..poor bears nose though.

Reading comment Robyn wrote about Tori. Still sounds like some problems. Oh my Tori's friend

LORI, how rare for us to meet up here at this time of day ! Were your ears burning or what ? I speak the truth ! I♥U !

I guess I should give LOO his due (leaving his do entirely up to his stylist). For those who don't know Loo is Lori's on air cohost and he does a fine job, too. They create a good balance and have a free, easy and appealing chat style.

hedgie said...

In response to an email that Jewell sent on momster mail, this is what I wrote---and found that I could not copy&paste from Yahoo mail---weird---and had to send it to my aol mail"

On this July 4th, and in honor of his 100th birth year, Britain honored Ronald Reagan today with the unveiling of a bronze statue likeness. Margaret Thatcher, his staunchest ally, tho' too frail to attend the ceremony, sent a lovely tribute. Sad that our former sovereign enemy is the country that bestows this honor before the USA does....and how ironic that it is on our Independence Day. Thank you, England.

Kay said...

LYNN, LORI and LOO cited a study that says that, the bigger the signature, the higher the IQ. There are exceptions to the rule as in LOLLY's dear JACK, of course !

Yes, thank you England for honoring Reagan ! Glad our forefathers fended off your troops over 235 years ago. But, also glad we now have an amicable relationship !!!!

Renaissance Festival was great. I loved the beautiful dresses. If I had to drive during this visit. I would not have been able to come. Can not walk around then drive a car a block.
Legs, feet, hands, arms, neck and back truly hurt. I have my CVS like Tylenol. Yes I am using that. Does not help much. Who knows when I would ever get to do this again. So I'm making it work...how by asking God to help me with the pain.

I am having a ball, a blast, a lot of fun and enjoying the sites and scenery.

Enjoying being with my daughter so much. How we think alike and the laughter we have.

Wanda, sounds like a wonderful get-together at GGs. When I was youngster, our family went to my uncle's in Falls Church, VA.He set off the greatest fireworks we ever saw--one was a helicopter w/little plastic double blade like a kayak paddle. That was the only part that came back down!
We'll be at home & Fubby got crabcakes for din din. We always watch the DC show on TV & then Macy's display starts at 9 PM. A near by rec ctr. does fireworks and I can see them from across the street. Gotta wear mosquito repellant!!!
Was outside sityting on deck w/camera hoping to take pic of hummer boy. He came to feeder & lantana, but bolted as soon as I moved camera. I may have to get him someday thru the kitchen window!
