I have left the door open and the flies are coming in I will close it but leave it unlocked...just push on it when you are ready to come in:) Must be panda nap time;)
Good afternoon everyone and blessings on all. It takes me so long to catch up that until I can post I forget what I want to say. Anyway ... you people are great! You teach, console, joke, and entertain and that's why I stay. Oh ... I, too, remember the Sensens, Black Jack gum, etc. Love to reminisce!
Hi, Diann...I think everyone is taking a panda nap. Maybe we should do the same. I would love to nap...but if I do, chances are, I wouldn't sleep at night:(
NatureNut said... Hi All, online service down most of the day after Verizon guys were here!!!!! Earlier I had checked Bird Cams Around the World & a poster named Macko from Hungary had a link to the "ringers" of the Finland ospreys----is connected w/Finnish Museum of Natural History. They would be the ones who have seen these birds and could explain the condition & prognosis & their (in)actions. Jo's forum also gave some good info, but I don't like hearing scientific stuff from the camera owner!!!! I've asked several people here and they say ospreys are not good in captivity---too traumatized. Have you ever seen an educational osprey? Deb might have some input---after all, didn't Janie have Gabby for a year? For now "Koo" is probably in the right place w/food and family. I hope it will fly & not be a sitting duck like last year's.When wingercising, I've seen leg hang down a little, not stay bacwards. I think the joint was broken & then healed frozen up. Of course there will be a problem if it does catch fish w/one foot on how it will land or perch?!
Sorry about all that------brought this over. I loved SenSen. My Dad always had it in his pocket & I would go in his coat & nibble away! Loved licorice---that's probably why! ☺
Hi, Loretta.., I know that animals and birds can adapt to injuries, but I'm thinking that, if the Fins can climb up to the tree (like they did last year) to remove a dead chick, why can't they climb up and set that poor creature's leg. It seems so simple to me...I think I could do it if I had a ladder and a ticket to Finland and maybe Lynn to help me:)
Mits said... I agree Loretta, think some of those people on that particular forum, are upset because they are getting flack from viewers, if it is in such bad shape as some experts might feel, it should have been euthanized, Suz was remarking this a.m., how Mom is not feeding it....
We once had a dog that was hit by a car (our fault for letting her loose) and had a very broken leg. Vet said that he couldn't save it and that it should be amputated. I wanted to wait and see how she handled the situation. She eventually learned to use the leg when necessary. She could chase a rabbit, running on all 4's. When she came back, she limped on 3 legs. She adapted very well.
I saw Mom putting food in his mouth twice and the other two were watching. It's frustrating for me to watch a cam that refreshes so slowly, so I didn't watch anymore after I was satisfied that the chick was actually being fed.
So glad the door was left unlocked. Thank you, Wanda.
Just stopping in for a quick visit.
No place is safe. Poor economy always sees increase in robberies and breakins/burglaries. Please keep doors/windows closed and locked even during the day, if at all possible. Lights on, front & back, after dusk is a plus as are motion detectors.
Just listening to news. A nest of leather back turtles found in south Florida w/four hatchlings ~1/2 lb. each. Apparently very rare in that area. Looked so cute!
Shirley, how's the floor look?
Diann, just keep a paper/pencil or notebook nearby and make notes. Just what I do if I have lots of catching up.
Noticed Jo's comment about the summer slipping away and not really having done much, then I recalled that Magical Visit with the Germany Gang! And all the family visits she gets, and all the meatballs! Sounds like a very full summer to me ☺ xo
Liked the picture of the Evening Grosbeaks, Shirley! It has been a looooong time since I have seen them, and yes, they sure do come in flocks, lots of times on migratory paths North or South.. Lucky you!
I have seen Koo being fed, too. Andrea, hope that the prof lets you retake that test...that is inexcusable! Testing is supposed to be done in a quiet environment.
Hi All! Laurel is at Six Flags with Joseph. We are joining her with Jacob at around 6:30 or 7. Waiting for it to get a little cooler or should I say, not so hot. Presently 98. Yuk!
Jacob and I ran errands, then came home and I made two loaves of banana nut bread while he played. Had to take a break to get orange glitter lava out of his hair. He was crying the whole time. Not so much that it hurt, but was upset that he had put it in his hair.
Margy, tempus fugit was one of my grandpops' favorite admonishments!! Of course we've all heard "time flies when you're having fun" but I like "time's fun when you're having flies"---that's the toad/frog lover coming out!!
I have no idea on this earth what he thought he was doing. LOL This glitter lava is some kind of sticky putty. He was really having fun with it at the kitchen table while I cooked. Then...there it was in his hair!
I'm home!Gotta read all tjose links I didn't finish when we got knocked offline by the Verizon guys!LOL Talked to Greg, naturalist at Park, & altho it's not common, the rehab lady that brought ospreys to release is keeping one that he said was quite docile.Over weekend, saw Koo eat a few times of fish in nest & sister didn't bother him/her.
Lolly, I once sprayed glitter in my hair and it took a week to get it all out:) My customers kept asking me if it was any good, so I felt I had to try it...yes, it was good! Did the orange color come out?
Our National Night Out Against Crime was especially fun this time. Politicos showed up, of course. Police also always show up but this time they went above and beyond. Marked cruisers and the Police chief and two motorcycle cops with lights flashing and sirens blazing. The motorcycle cops did a little hot-shoting for the kids showing off their turns and twists with lights and sirens all ablaze. Kids, me included, were really impressed. Turns out I know one of the motorcyclers so had a nice conversation. Must say, our community has some top drawer cooks.
Motorcycle cops national competition is being held in Culpepper this year, I think.
I didn't know about the control + either. We are such a smart group AND we play well with each other.
Maybe I should try some orange glitter - been red a very long time.
Found out tonight that crippled bambi is a regular resident. Has been around the community for some years and often has had a fawn along.
Happy birthday, Barbara.
Happy sofa shopping Shirley.
Jo, I am saying goodnight very quietly. I'll be extra careful not to make noise as I turn out my light.
Have enjoyed reading all the comments. I came home tired. Hunter and I went to the battlefield--there are lots of them around here. We saw some frogs and deer. Hunter makes a little deer call sound that really does get their attention.
Then I ended up going to Hunter's football practice--the first one in pads and helmets. They are so cute. You can't be on the team if you weigh more than 90 pounds. They have one 89-pounder, but Hunter is only 60 pounds. They did lots of tackling and running around.
I got whacked from behind by a football a kid not on the team was playing with. His mother was about to get upset with him, but I think it's the risk you take sitting there with footballs flying around. This kid was only 5, but he propelled that ball with plenty of force.
Judie--I will be sure my doors are locked tonight. Need to replace my back-door light. It has stopped working.
Never heard of lava glitter. Will have to check that out.
Hope the little Finney bird's situation gets worked out favorably.
I am home with lots to tell and know that I missed a lot of people.
Gabby scraped a wing again today so we had to bandage it. I got to hold her down while Janie and Blake took care of the wing. It was a little nerve racking, too many things to remember on how to hold the legs and the upper body. I did start to recognize when she was about to try to escape.
The Corp announced today that they will start work on the road that goes by the Osprey tower on Wednesday. We can only release birds on the weekend. Once again someone in the government wasn't thinking about what was happening with their timing. Campers, boaters and birds all will be affected. Why they aren't waiting for September to start is beyond me.
The last big announcement is an eaglet is arriving Thursday for Janie to care for. I don't know the whole story but will report the details as soon as I get them. I know that the eaglet is not in serious condition, but that is about it.
So much to report, I almost forgot that the state of Iowa is sending two Osprey chicks over to be released along with the Idaho Osprey. One is from Wisconsin, the other from Minnesota. They were to be part of Iowa's release program, but for some reason that didn't happen.
I will be anxious to know the story behind the Eaglet! That will be interesting. Glad you had an eventful day, Deb! And to think that you got to hold an osprey!!! Awesome!
Hi gang! What a great story about the Harley eagle....sure hope he recovers from whatever the illness is. Way to go, Brian Baladez. Have only seen fleeting glimpses of edge of moon---clouds and leaves!! Bet it is pretty whole! Sounds like everyone has had a good day all around. Dana has St. E's info that I will let her post. Not sure how to take it.
Deb, what an exciting day you've had! Can't wait to hear more. And hope that Gabby is okay.
Friends' BF came through surgery well---some bleeding issues so still getting blood and still intubated, but making progress on the road to recovery. Thanks for prayers and keep them coming!
Good evening/night to all my eagle budlets. I went to a meeting and then to a friend's house for BLTs and fun and fellowship. Well, I had the B of the BLT anyway and we watched America's Got Talent. Lots of fun and of course I got to share some of my eagle stories. Met 2 people from Baltimore who were really nice. (No, not my neighbors!) :)
From Sissy: Tom is in Bluefield Regional. We have no idea what is wrong. He is having terrible, excruciating pain in his right middle quadrant of his belly into his back. CT scans, blood work, etc. are all good. Had to be catheterized, etc. So...they admitted him to a hospitalist because no doctors admit anymore. Prayers, please if you would!
Thanks for the update on Tom, Sharon. Pray they find out what it is and that the pain goes away completely. I surely hope it isn't anything too serious - so glad Sissy got him into the hospital.
I have regular Dr appointment tomorrow. Mainly to go over blood work.
Well, Lynn! I had to come in in the dark!! Also, pounded hard on the door since it was shut!!
Home from Six Flags. Joseph road the Shock Wave about 10 times, his favorite roller coaster. Jacob even rode it. We started Jacob on some very tame children's rides and they kept getting more daring. He wanted to go on the Shock Wave and was tall enough so Laurel took him. He loved it! Crazy kids!
All the Glitter Lava came out of his hair. Oh, there may be a sparkle or two left. LOL I combed his hair and then put him in the tub and shampooed his hair. Silly boy! He told him Momma it was an accident. Duh!!!!!!
Deb, sounds like you had an exciting time. Love the picture of your back! But how exciting to get to participate.
I heard a little knocking near the mic, but haven't seen the Kid yet. Maybe he thinks there is No Room at the Inn. Now I hear some more noises like, who knows what, planes and other birds I guess.
Heading for Sleep... Best Wishes for a Good Day for All. xo
Can't post a link, it's only a picture and small caption:
"Author Promotes Cleaner Rivers"
Biologist Sandy Burk gives a group of kids a closer look at a crayfish during her visit to the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library on Tuesday morning. Burk, the author of "Let the Run Silver Again!" has worked to restore the Potomac River to a healthier state." Nice Photo of Sandy and several children.
Section B of the Martinsburg Journal, today's edition.
Footnote Paula can describe this better than I, but Sandy Burk was at the Open House in October last year at NCTC, had a table next to the Momsters table, and was working with Paula and others regarding developing a curriculum for the school on the food chain of the Bald Eagle, and other educational aspects of that. She is in some of the pictures on the Momsters album of the Open House and Dinner year. Wish I could give you a better bio, but that's all I can manage right now.

Thanks all involved in lol trying to write words bigger. Still need to put on glasses to see most words. Bothers right eye had surgery in...will probably get new reading glasses after other eye is done. When healing is over.
LOLLY---Don't worry about the golden stars in JACOB'S hair---When the HALO appears---then worry----ho!----Your are good GRANNY too----I keep MAC' & CHEESE on hand always!!---love 'em!---for as long as you can!!!
Good Weds. AM--just getting rolling here---note from Suz:
Koo had a fish this morning, and just couldn't get a grip on it to eat the thing. Poor Koo was so frustrated she lost some feathers trying to use her wings to help her hold the thing. Dad was flying around, Mom came to protect Koo, and dad brought another fish. Mom fed baby some. But at least she did eat. Mom also returned an hour or so later with another fish, and fed her again.
ISN'T IT WONDERFUL!----We are all 'KIDS AT HEART'----Never dreamed so many of you all would have memories of SEN-SENS---BLACK JACK GUM & How about the wax heads that were filled with RED SYRUP--& you chewed the wax like gum???
Norma, I remember the wax thingies--I liked the little wax soda bottles. We also used to buy candy cigarettes and "smoke" them. That would not go over well now!
Really? I would think they are not politically correct.
When I was in college in NC, the tobacco companies definitely tried to hook us. They gave out free samples in little boxes and had cigarette vending machines in the cafeteria. I don't suppose they were behind the candy cigarettes, but who knows?
Cats manage to be good guard kitties. A few years ago, Suzi, my younger daughter was alone at her sister's apt. When she didn't answer my repeated phone calls, we called the apt. management to have someone check that she had not been overcome by gas fumes from the stove or some awful thing. Suzi said she was awakened by Kathryn's kitty frantically meowing and patting her face because there was a strange man in the apt. (The poor guy was very embarrassed.)
Goodness, just saw what looked to be a groundhog cutting through my yard. I've seen plenty of them by the roadside, but not in my yard. This one was in a hurry to get somewhere and did not wait for me to take a picture.
Just found out that my new across the steet neighbor works for hr for Wegmans. She said they hired 400 people to work at the Fredericksburg store. That should help the local economy.
WHOA---MEGAN!---I do remember that song!---didn't smoke in hs---but the min--I arrived at col--I bought cigs--ho!----YEAH SHIRLEY!--19 cents--They gave out little cig packages--free!---DUMB--DUMB!--just trying to be cool!
I just contacted a newspaper in Finland about the Osprey Chick with the broken leg. Also giving them the webcam site and the fact that they can go rescue and help the chick because they went up into nest to band it. Let you know if I get anything back.
LOLLY---What time is the hearing?-----Some courts move faster than others---Is custody of the child the only contested decision to be made----or are there others?---Keeping GUS in my prayers----DIVORCES ARE THE WORST!!!
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE... Just jumping on here to ask you not to put out the SILVER ALERT for me today. GeeGee day...appointments, etc. (She is getting a shot in her knee, last shot lasted for 1 year!!)BBL
Norma yes I did go for awhile without Ed. I have quit for now with the cataract surgery and the left eye coming here soon Aug. 26th. After all the healing I have decided to join closer to home. I need to be closer to Ed. So with this "change" in my life. I'll let you all know when I start again.
MORNIN' MOVIN'JIM--WANDA--MEMA JO & MITS!!----Our weather is still at 78°---One side of my air is down for a couple of days---They were just here a wk ago--everything fine---forgot to check something---oh well--(i won't melt)!!
Maybe we should have SHIRLEY order us some candy cigs--wax lips--black jack gum, etc---& have a party!---ho!----just remembered---you can't wear wax lips & smoke candy cigs at the same time! ho!-----you kida are COOL!!
Good Day Everyone! Hoping for better health for Tom (gallbladder?) & healthy prayers for Dana, Ed, and all who need.☺
Good for you Dana!! I sent my osprey letter to 3 addresses at the Finland Museum of Nat. Hist. last night and Tah Dah!!!Got 2 replies One from lady at Museum & other from BirdLife.BOTH said & they fwded letter to webmaster at Pulkinnen!!!!!!Camera owner. Are we talking about the same nest? I saw Mom and 2 siblings with the crippled chick earlier, and Mom was feeding it. Finny Land.
yes, Finney nest...Suz had to stop watching it, it rarely gets fed.
We often see the siblings feeding or helping him eat.
I saw Mom putting food in his mouth twice and the other two were watching. It's frustrating for me to watch a cam that refreshes so slowly, so I didn't watch anymore after I was satisfied that the chick was actually being fed.

Dana has St. E's info that I will let her post. Not sure how to take it.
The moon is almost full, it is beautiful tonight, Lynn.
I am off to bed, I put up one picture of Gabby getting treatment. The bandages are more preventative than anything.
Good news, Hedgie -
Sharon, I had a BLT tonight too!
Sharon, what happened to the L&T???? Love bacon, of course, but also love BLT!!! Glad you had a nice night out!
Dana sent the St E's infor via email
Oh, no...poor Tom....?gallbladder, kidney stone??? Sure hope it's not serious...please keep us posted, Shar. Prayers for Tom and (((hugs))) for Sissy.
Oh, see that Dana posted her response on momsters' mail!
I am plain jane. I had a bacon sandwich and then before I left I had some homemade jam on a piece of toast.
Thanks for the update on Tom, Sharon.
Pray they find out what it is and that the pain goes away completely.
I surely hope it isn't anything too serious - so glad Sissy got him into the hospital.
I have regular Dr appointment tomorrow. Mainly to go over blood work.
Osprey team looks like professionals, Deb. You fit in there real well.
Heading for tub....will check back to see if any word on Tom. Night-night to any turning in.
Thinking of Sissy and Tom...
Going to call it a day
Prayers for all needs being offered
Peaceful sleep and pleasant dreams
((hugs)) ♥
Paula, loved the article of the Harley rider being a good Samaratan with the eagle. So now, my Harley Eagle will remind me of the REAL Harley Eagle;)
Sleepy time here...
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
SWEET DREAMS
PRAYERS FOR ALL
(Prayers for Tom and Love to Sissy)
Guess I'll close the door and turn out the light...no one has come in in a while...prayers and peace....see you in the morning light.
We have been eating banana nut bread and talking. Laurel is now ready for bed and Jack has headed that way. Guess I shall too!
Prayers for Tom.
Prayers for Gus. They go back to court tomorrow. WE ARE NOT GOING!
Talk with you in the morning!
Sweet dreams!
Good Morning Eagle Friends
Our nest tree is sprouting wings!
Hope to see a good report from Sissy early today...prayers for Tom's wellness.
Nice picture of Gabby and the Treatment Team Deb
I heard a little knocking near the mic, but haven't seen the Kid yet. Maybe he thinks there is No Room at the Inn. Now I hear some more noises like, who knows what, planes and other birds I guess.
Heading for Sleep...
Best Wishes for a Good Day for All. xo
I thought the Still Cam looked awfully bright! Is a picture dated yesterday :(
Well, can't leave quite yet, hear some chortles...
Good morning, short night. Sissy and all, I hope Tom is feeling better this morning!
Oh! Sandy Burk is in our Martinsburg Journal today - made a visit to the Martinsburg Library yesterday, let me post the link here in a minute!
Can't post a link, it's only a picture and small caption:
"Author Promotes Cleaner Rivers"
Biologist Sandy Burk gives a group of kids a closer look at a crayfish during her visit to the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library on Tuesday morning. Burk, the author of "Let the Run Silver Again!" has worked to restore the Potomac River to a healthier state."
Nice Photo of Sandy and several children.
Section B of the Martinsburg Journal, today's edition.
Okay, now bedtime.
Finland is empty, Finney has a parent and two chicks,
nothing showing up at our nest.
TTFN xo ☺
Footnote
Paula can describe this better than I, but Sandy Burk was at the Open House in October last year at NCTC, had a table next to the Momsters table, and was working with Paula and others regarding developing a curriculum for the school on the food chain of the Bald Eagle, and other educational aspects of that. She is in some of the pictures on the Momsters album of the Open House and Dinner year. Wish I could give you a better bio, but that's all I can manage right now.
xo

Good Weds. AM--just getting rolling here---note from Suz:
Koo had a fish this morning, and just couldn't get a grip on it to eat
the thing. Poor Koo was so frustrated she lost some feathers trying to
use her wings to help her hold the thing. Dad was flying around, Mom
came to protect Koo, and dad brought another fish. Mom fed baby some.
But at least she did eat. Mom also returned an hour or so later with
another fish, and fed her again.
ISN'T IT WONDERFUL!----We are all 'KIDS AT HEART'----Never dreamed so many of you all would have memories of SEN-SENS---BLACK JACK GUM & How about the wax heads that were filled with RED SYRUP--& you chewed the wax like gum???
Good morning all. Tom just got back from ultrasound but no word yet. Still feeling about the same though.
I am heading to Princeton to a meeting. BBIALW!
Good morning!
Norma, I remember the wax thingies--I liked the little wax soda bottles. We also used to buy candy cigarettes and "smoke" them. That would not go over well now!
Norma remember the little wax bottles.
Shirley yep smoke smoke smoke those candy cigaretts. Still see them around.
Prayers hoping that find out Tom's problem. Hoping nothing serious.
Wax Thingies
Really? I would think they are not politically correct.
When I was in college in NC, the tobacco companies definitely tried to hook us. They gave out free samples in little boxes and had cigarette vending machines in the cafeteria. I don't suppose they were behind the candy cigarettes, but who knows?
Oh my :( just read comment about Ceil & hubby....almost a break in. Good kitties!!
Yes, prayers for Tom.
MORNIN' BLUEFIELD SHARON!---Please keep us updated on TOM!---Bless his heart---prayers for SISSY & TOM!!
Howdy all:)
Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette♫♪♫
Cats manage to be good guard kitties. A few years ago, Suzi, my younger daughter was alone at her sister's apt. When she didn't answer my repeated phone calls, we called the apt. management to have someone check that she had not been overcome by gas fumes from the stove or some awful thing. Suzi said she was awakened by Kathryn's kitty frantically meowing and patting her face because there was a strange man in the apt. (The poor guy was very embarrassed.)
WHOA!---SHIRLEY---I forgot about the WAX LIPS!!---oh -- I could go on & on---DANA--do remember the wax bottles too!!
MEMA JO!---Thanks for the BENNY GOODMAN'S 'MOONGLOW'----I love GENE KRUPA---ON DRUMS!!--- WOW!
Heads UP Ceil I am sending you some snail mail today.
Good morning everyone. Hope you will all have a great day.

SHIRLEY!---That's a wonderful CAT story---w/forward it to my daughter!
I just contacted a newspaper in Finland about the Osprey Chick with the broken leg. Also giving them the webcam site and the fact that they can go rescue and help the chick because they went up into nest to band it. Let you know if I get anything back.
Very emotional homecoming for the journalists that were held in N. Korea.
