a lot of the fish is donated to the Salisbury food bank, to be distributed to the food pantry's across the Eastern shore....there is a local-famous woman, named Rosie, who, cleans and cuts all the fish into steks right there on the premises...she is no bigger than a minute.
I would hope that other people on the boat are allowed to work on reeling it in...5 hrs. is a very long time----arms would feel like they were pulled out of the sockets, along with the strain on the knees!
A tagged Turkey Vulture was spotted near Pierre, SD, today. Amazing what they found out from the tag:
I reported the tagged Turkey Vulture to the Hawk Mountain Bird Sanctuary in Pennsylvania because they help keep track of tagged Turkey Vultures. I just received a response stating that the vulture I saw, known as Red 163, was tagged as a sub-adult on December 16, 2008 in northwestern Venezuela. Hawk Mountain wants reports from anyone who spots tagged vultures. The tag is not hard to see. It made this bird look like a giant Red-winged Blackbird. A photo of the bird is on my blog at www.askthebirds.org
That's a long time, I'd have to pee and fish would get away.hahaha-too much information. Don't know about a boat, Jo, I'm definitely not driving it. Heading to bed, gotta get up early to cut flowers, where did the week go?? Nite all
220 boats out tomorrow, if I wake up during the night I will head down there, of course they all don't sail out of OC, Cape May NJ, Indian River DE. and some place in VA, but all must come back to OC to be weighed...
Hi, Margy, You still there? Just checking in to see what's going on. Notice Judie mentioned gunfire at the nest earlier!!! Hope nothing serious. Prayers for all those in need of healing--especially Lynn's friend's Ken, Tom, Loretta (oooh--dentists make me cringe!) and for Diann's test tomorrow. Still praying for Gimpy Heron. He's getting around less painfully today; he was all over the place in the back yard! He mostly sort of leapfrogs with a few wingersizes thrown in for buoyancy. I wonder if there's a way to fix him up with a contraption like they fix for doxies that lose the use of their back ends.... Maybe a sort of leg brace would work too, till he heals more. Put your thinking cap on! Two heads are better than one.
Margy, is Koo the name of the osprey chick who's leg is broken? I've only watched that site a couple of times, and hate to now for fear I'll get too attached and then the worst will happen. Enough drama going on right in my backyard. I keep up with it by reading the comments about it here. Gimpy Heron seems to know I'm trying to help him. He spent much of the morning parked on my patio doormat! If the screen is closed, I can stand right next to him.
Actually, I guess I'd better not try to figure out any braces. I could get in trouble if anyone found out I was messing with him. I really don't understand why it's OK for the authorities to refuse to help a Starling, for example, because it's a plentiful nuisance to most, but not OK for someone like us to help it when it's in need. They're all a part of God's creation!
I missed everyone again! These evenings pass so quickly... I had a run-in with a wasp today. I had sprayed his nest yesterday which was inside the grill. Went out today to remove it and to my surprise, the wasps were still occupying it. Stung my pinky twice! Ouch:( Finger swelled so badly that Gene had to cut my pinky ring off. That'll teach me.
Robyn, hope your birthday was a good one! We miss you on here.
I guess I'll just keep putting out a pan of water, and a few sardines, and see if he gets any better. He can move the top part of his leg now (the 'drumstick' part), and before it was just stiff.
Sorry I am late to get back on to say Good Night and sorry for the wasp boo-boo Wanda, and Andrea, I think what you are doing is the best you can do....supportive care, but nothing too aggressive that would possibly establish a dependency. Sounds like Gimpy is coming along as well as can be expected...with YOU as a good nurse.
Yes, Koo is the name of the female, and the youngest also, at Finney Land Nest.
One parent and three chicks at Finney (Koo's nest) -
She might just take and do what she needs to do to at least get out of the nest, but the prospect for the future is rather grim. These Ospreys would migrate to Africa, (I think, though my mind is rather sluggish right now) - and few think she would be able to manage that with success.
Well, guess I'll say goodnight. Hope everyone gets a good night's sleep. Prayers for all! (Golly, Wanda, your pinkie sounds VERY painful! Hope it heals quickly! Will talk to you all tomorrow. Hey, it's already Friday at the nest! TGIF! :o]
You're right, Margy. I don't want Gimpy to get too used to people, because that would mean trouble for him. Guess I just have to adopt a wait and see attitude and hope and pray for the best. I'm glad Koo has some company for now. I don't know why they don't make her a birdie ambassador. She could visit schools and really get kids interested. I'm sure they'd be fascinated by the fact that her siblings are so concerned about her. Gimpy had 2 of his siblings keeping him company again today, too. Say, I wonder if anyone's invented a leg brace for parrots and cockatoos! (Just wondering--they probably get hurt sometimes, too!) Well, this really is goodnight. I gotta go get a shower and then get some sleep. Sweet dreams, all!
The cam at Pete's Pond is down for service, but it was only supposed to last a half hour. It's been way longer than that now.
And the last chick at Finney's is there alone now; but earlier I saw the Mom and one of the fledglings with the last one. Probably brought some food for the youngest.
Anyway, the broken leg seems to have healed in the wrong angle, BUT I was surprised to see that the chick is able to stand on one leg while exercising it wings, AND it can tuck the broken leg back pointing tailwards like it was meant to be that way.
I don't know if this one will "make it", but it should at least be able to fly.
feels like fall out there this a.m., decided just to watch the boats going out for the tournament this a.m. from balcony....little dipper flanked by 2 satellites and some planet, (MARGY would know in the eastern sky).

Really I am saying good night.
Thank you, Jo!
ok, yeah, sure, Ceil.

I asked hubby last night what he thought blue marlin tasted like...he said tastes like chicken.....smart a#$
Good day fishing! One more day to go!

Megan - Mits We should have chartered a boat!
Mits - we can go over to Salisbury food bank and get some to taste!

Could be that the farmer is having trouble with foxes or coyotes. But don't think at this stage that it's anything that will bother our eagles.
I'm not sure what the ruling is on that, Lynn....very strict rules, and a lie-detector test has to be passed on Saturday, bu the winners.
Jo, I would love to go out there and fish.....but boat hast to be 65 ft or more to get me that far out
Turning out my light. Leaving night light on for others.

that is amazing Deb......
bye-bye, Olivia Grace:)

Guy who is in 1st place in Blue Marlin category, literally lost $120,000 tonight.
who knows maybe a bigger blue will come in tomorrow, and knock this guy out of second
1st place for $430000 isn't too bad for a day's fishing trip.
Does 3rd place also take money away from 1st?
yes, it does take away, the winning white marlin price, in the beginning of the week was...$1,3ooo,ooo, now down to $860,000
think they forgot to turn the cam off.
Somehow it doesn't seem quite fair to take $$$ away from the champ, does it?? That takes away from his success, skill, luck and hard work. Boo.
Whoa! That's a lot of fish!
Time for me to call it a day.....
Prayers for Tom, Ken and all those in need.
Breathe well Diann....
Restful sleep and peaceful dreams!
(((hugs))) ♥
well when they get into this, they know the rules...seems perfectly fair to me, just like any other sport.
I am calling it a day, too. Time to relax. Night everyone!
right behind you, Jo...good night and prayers for all:)
Good Night, Deb, Helen, Jo...Megan, Ceil, Judie...and Everyone Else headed that way!
xo
poor Koo, all by herself:(
I have an early morning---retiree breakfast---so will say goodnight. Prayers for all in need. A final Happy B-day to Robyn. See y'all tomorrow.
Yes, no visitors for Koo since daybreak :(
Finland Chick back
Nite all! Been going between SD, facebook, blog and cams. Time to give it up! Heading to the shower.

Company for Koo has arrived ☺
