Good Sunday Morning All!
I am up and about and almost ready to go to market. Taking gs and dil with me today.
GrannyBLT you are going to like your high speed and like Wanda said - hopefully we will see more of you on here. We will even invite you along as our Guide when we all go tramping off to Alaksa!
I will touch base with you all upon my return with all my fresh veggies/fruits/flowers! Won't be stopping at the nest - no one home I'm suppose -I do wonder about the height of the shade tree. Might look like a forest by now.

I am off to the store.

Good Sunday Morning!

Let's see, Ceil is off to the store, Jo is off to market, Mits is off to church...Norma, you still there?

stronghunter said...

Morning, Andrea.

normabyrd said...

I am still here ANDREA!---I just get all my calls from my kids on Sun am!---ho!--

Ms Bookworm said...

...Wanda's off to breakfast and church, Grannyblt will BBL, Norma, is it just you and me? Hey, a gracious good morning from a not-so-sunny-yet SoCal! It's cool here this morning with a nice marine layer promising to help keep the temperature from breaking any records today. This is the official first day of my week off from school! Wah-HOOOOOO!!!!!!
Have been tickled to see that we have had a batch of tiny baby 'fence swift' lizards scurrying around our yard for a few days now. I call them fence swift lizards because they love to hang out on our cinder block walls and brick walls, and they can run pretty fast! I affectionately call them my "mini dinosaurs". They're about the same diameter as a pencil, and about 3-4" long, nose to tail tip. Veeewwwy cute!

stronghunter said...

Glad to see you have some time off, Andrea. You have earned it.

Ms Bookworm said...

Aaah, Shirley too! Hi, Shirley! Tell George I said hello. How is he doing, with his new 'inhalant' and the fact that it's the weekend and you're home? And how is Will? Hope he's feeling a LOT better!
Norma, isn't it great to hear from the kids?! We're all so busy during the week; it's great to just touch base on the weekend. We send lots of picture messages on our cell phones, and it's not quite like having them with us, but it beats sending a "Wish you were here" postcard all to pieces!

normabyrd said...

WHOA! ANDREA---I don't do lizards very well!!----ho!--I do remember as a kid---went to grandparent's farm---Saw lizards that would lose their tail when excited!!

stronghunter said...

It has been interesting to check my kids' messages on Facebook. With Suzi in Hawaii, especially. We have been getting a running agenda of her adventures.

stronghunter said...

Will is doing much better, thank you.

stronghunter said...

George is fine, too. He came to me for some attention, then went off for a cat nap.

Ms Bookworm said...

Wow, Hubby's not awake yet--that's unusual for him. He's up at 2:15 or 2:30 am every weekday. Let's see...he's gotten an extra 5 hours of sleep so far! Amazing. Oops, I think I hear him stirring--better start the coffee! He probably will need a jump start. Be back in a couple minutes!

normabyrd said...

M/T Nest at the NORFORLK site!---The EAGLET that has the transmitter 'AZALEA' has only traveled about 8 miles or so---

a WHIMBREL named 'HOPE'--with a transmitter--left at the same time--has traveled 8,000 miles?

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' SHIRLEY!---I have you & your son in my thoughts & prayers!---can't imagine how upset you must have been---How's the classroom?---Any new pieces of furniture?---ho!--Was just talking w/my teacher daughter---She said they have received several things with the stimulus monies ---

normabyrd said...

Just watched another TRIBUTE to EUNICE KENNEDY SCHRIVER!!---What a WOMAN!!!!

stronghunter said...

New furniture--well, I think I have rounded up desks. Custodians are supposed to bring me some more on Monday. They just have to be shifted from one room to another.

Really have to think about the syllabi / course outlines for all of my classes. Lots of meetings on Monday.

What does your daughter teach?

normabyrd said...

SHIRLEY!---Don't worry about GEORGE!---doesn't he always land on his feet!--ho!---(that wasn't funny)!

stronghunter said...

I am not so much worried about George as I am about what he might do to my house when I am gone.

stronghunter said...

He would probably scratch me on his way to landing on his feet, so I won't be testing that one.

normabyrd said...

She is teaching 4th grade this year---(lives in Shepherdstown)---another daughter teaches 3rd grade----(lives in FL)

stronghunter said...

So they are plenty busy now, too.

normabyrd said...

I taught 2 yrs at the WV School for the Blind---I enjoyed teaching very much!---

stronghunter said...

Wonder what the weather is going to be this next week or so? There are three storms brewing out there in the Atlantic.

National Weather Service

normabyrd said...

SHIRLEY---Have you gotten your sofa yet?---bet you can't wait---

stronghunter said...

A school for the blind? That would be interesting and challenging. I had a blind friend in college. She was one spirited girl.

stronghunter said...

Have not gotten it late. They say 4-6 weeks. That is a long time.

stronghunter said...

Have not gotten it yet. (The sofa, that is.)

normabyrd said...

Thanks for that site!---I knew the next hurricane is BILL---(was husb's name)

stronghunter said...

Have to get Will to help me move some other things into that room. There is a small desk halfway blocking the hall that needs to be moved and is too heavy for me. I did not want to bug Will about it yesterday. I got it out of the room because I did not have to worry about dragging it over the floor, but now it has to be lifted.

stronghunter said...

Glad you like the site. If you move the curser over the storms, you can click to get more info.

normabyrd said...

The WV SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF & BLIND is located in Romney---Now they mainstream most of the children---You can't believe how much I enjoyed working there--

stronghunter said...

We have one young lady at our school who carries a white cane. She seems to be pretty independent about getting around.

It was supposed to drop to 60° in the night, but never went lower than 67°...

It's still hanging at 67, but it's supposed to clear off the haze and climb to close to 80° by mid-afternoon.

It's a generally beautiful Sunday. How about where you are??

normabyrd said...

Don't strain your back!!---HAPPY MOVIN'!!---ho!

stronghunter said...

What did you teach there, Norma?

normabyrd said...

SHIRLEY!---Sometimes they are TOO INDEPENDENT!!

stronghunter said...

No way I can move this desk alone. It is quite small, but it is heavy, even with no drawers.

stronghunter said...

She has a teacher who helps her with classes. She walks down the hall with her cane making comments. I expect she wants us to know she is there and respond, so she will know who is around her.

movin said...

Hey! You can see the baby Panda right under Mother Bai Yun's chin now.

It's growing enough fur, I guess, to be partially exposed now.

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' MOVIN'JIM!---HEY!---I saw on yesterday's blog that you figured the MUSTARD thing out!---It goes way--way back!!---THANKS!
Are you near the fires??

stronghunter said...

My blind friend in college would ask to "grab a wing." She liked to hold onto your elbow when we walked around campus.

movin said...

Also, Finney has brought in a fish, and the middle chick is ravenously watching (at least) her peck at it.

Look how much smaller the middle one is than Mom...definitely a male fledgling.

Happy Sunday Everyone!
Just saw on njews about 11 forest ffires along CA coast.
Hope Jim, Anne Marie, & Andreas places are OK!

Watching Finney this AM (ours) & Dad came in w/fish & Koo was the only one there! He came back to nest at the right time. Later, more fish, but whole gang was there.

normabyrd said...

What's with the FRODOCAM?---anyone know????

stronghunter said...

So Koo got fed?

movin said...

Good morning, Norma. I'm way south of the fires, but Anne-Marie is probably in the same section of the State.

SHIRLEY----What we "should" be watching is PEREGRINE FALCONS laying an EGG or two being laid in nest---Then hatching, etc --

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Gang,

Got the coffee made, and now need to plan what we'll do this afternoon. Haven't turned on the TV yet--where are the fires? I haven't heard about any.

normabyrd said...

Thanks MOVIN'JIM---I did get to see the baby earlier!!

ceil said...

I made a comment about the Frodo cam but it was knock off. Will try again. I think those falcons did not come back last year to that spot. Mits mentioned it the other day and so did someone else. But I am having a senior moment and do not remember.

Ms Bookworm said...

I don't watch a lot of TV news. Too much BAD news. I'm not really close to the coast; about 20-25 miles away. Where did they say the fires were?

NatureNut said...

Glad you're OK Jim.
Norma, Koo is alone a lot until food comes in, or earlier a Sis came in and Koo left! But, we have to remember that he/she is the newest to fledge. Amazes me how much better at standing taller on the one foot & landing better too. Of course, he doesn't know there's any problem! ☺ Bless his heart♥
Gotta check the Panda♥

NatureNut said...

Oh, BTW, Fubby said the fires were in No. part of state, maybe near San Jose. (But I can't watch weather now----NASCAR is on!!!)

ceil said...

Margy that is such a shame. I used to work at Harbor Place best job I ever had but during the day the school kids harass people and at night gangs. Commissioner said Harbor Place is safe. No it is not. Two people were shot in the Pavilion last night and of course the shoters got away. Sorry to take up all this blog space. Makes my upside down heart really race.

NatureNut said...

Kids out foolin' around at Finney--MT nest.

ceil said...

normabyrd said...

BEAUTIFUL MARGY---I taught the 2nd grade for 2 yrs at the WV SCHOOLS FOR DEAF & BLIND!---I so enjoyed working there!---wonderful experience---

ceil said...

Andrea the fires are all over. One fire was started when by feathers from a red tailed hawk that flew into power lines. That was in Yuba County.

ceil said...

Have a good afternoon. I will be back much later.

normabyrd said...

WHOA!---MARGY---When I was teaching----there was a large enrollment---now they are mainstreaming---small enrollment & these are slower students--which can't be mainstreamed!!----Remember one time I was 10 min late--went flying by Principal's door--he yelled--'HELLO NORMA' ho!---never did that again---ho!

magpie said...

Holey Smokes!
Fires ignited by zapped hawk feathers, never heard anything like that before! Hope the hawks were not attached to the feathers when that happened !

magpie said...

Also: re Harbor Place....I saw that about the Commissioner's visit in June....I am afraid that sounds like wishful thinking...

AT one time the report said possibly each of the victims, shot at each other, but don't think that is the case now.

How about the Merchant in New York whose business was invaded by four would-be robbers: He opened fire, killed two and injured the other two. Sad it has to happen that way, he was pretty shook up about it, but No Charges to be filed!
It's just the way it has to be sometimes.

magpie said...

aaaaah, Norma...Second Grade..how magical
Also like hearing about your daughters teaching 3rd and 4th grade....
You know, I have a BA in Elementary Education...long story, few jobs, graduated in December...in 1974 - had to end up doing something else...teachers were a'plenty back then. Should have persevered, OR, taken up Biology instead! Oh, to go back in time.

magpie said...

Took a short little Wildlife trip this morning within my 20-minute-get-here-now if the beeper goes off.

Finally found my cardinal flower!
And a bunch of Spicebush Butterflies, loving the Joe-Pye Weed. These butterflies were pretty dinged up, parts of their wings all shredded and some missing.

Glad to hear the fires are out now, but concerned for the hawk whose tail feathers must be scorched! Hope the rest of him is OK!
Well, have had breakfast, the dishwasher is doing, and I've got to go get a quick shower. Hubby says to get it in gear! Will be back later this afternoon.
Have a great day!

stronghunter said...

I am afraid it does not say what happened to the hawk, though.

Fire Started by Hawk

Good afternoon!
Late commenting, but have been reading off and on. Sunday papers are BIG, plus cooked breakfast on Sundays takes time.
Very HOT and HUMID already.

Hawk feathers? Wow----sure hope the hawk survived!
Loretta, sure hope there's no RAIN in Michigan---don't like Monday races!

hedgie said...

Shirley, they make gliders to put under furniture to make it easy to move w/o damaging floors or across carpet---carpet stores have them, but you can probably pick them up at hardware stores, too.

stronghunter said...

Thanks for the suggestions, Jo and Lynn. I might even try to get some gliders for my desk at school.

Hi all! Recovering from late night Elvis on the Square. Went to church this morning and Joseph fell asleep.

Anyway, have not read the blog and hope to catch up....sometime. Have posted Elvis pics.

stronghunter said...

Great pictures, Lolly. Looks like a fun night for your family.

NatureNut said...

Lynn, Fubby said NO rain predicted for Michigan race, but after it started rain anyway!!!Only stopped it for 1/2 hr. (just longer it'll be on!!!)
I've been going outside to watch hummers. We usually get 3, including 1 male. This year have only seen 2 females----Ms. Hovercraft & Ms. Sitting Pretty. Today a 2nd one came and sat at the feeder right after Ms. SP had been there! Shortly all 3 were chasing each other! No one is going to get any food if territory wars continue!
Was checking out Finney & all 3 sibs were in nest, w/Koo having the biggest crop of all!He/she took a small flight, returned & plopped on that belly & later fell asleep for the night!Big Sis babysitter left before dark.

hedgie said...

Lolly, your SIL is a REALLY tall dude, isn't he? How many songs did he get to sing???
Loretta, those hummers better stop bickering and get ready for their long flight to South America!! Bet it's almost time to leave. Say hi to Frank!!

magpie said...

Lake Washington is back up, nest site looks pretty but no birdies around. Boat just went past. The Alaska Cam eagles are moving around in their nest pretty good though - four hours time difference with us.
BWO is empty

Lolly - nice pictures, as always....

Mema Jo: How is floralgirl?

hedgie said...

Rain caution....no red flag YET!

magpie said...

The only hummingbirds I have seen this year were in Massachusetts.
Briefly.
My salvia plant bloomed nicely and maybe the birds visit when I am not looking. I have found a squirrel lurking around on the front porch lately....

I am looking forward to getting some Megan Plants for the fall...My yellow butterfly plant looks great as does the Rudbeckia Tri-loba - pretty flowers that look kind of like coreopsis...

magpie said...

Actually, the birds on the Alaska nest do not seem to be changing positions...

magpie said...

Time to gather enough food to last me for 12 hours...will just eat my way through the shift perhaps. ☺

Here's hoping that it has been a good day for all...not too much hard work, and a Lot of Joy -

What a hot day this has been. I don't know how high the temps got, but it is 90° here at supper time. Told Capt. Eagle to wait until it cooled off a bit befor he lit the grill...that was an hour ago. Still hasn't cooled off. Might have mustard sandwiches and Jimmies and Gin while we're waiting;) Wonder how many calories are in that combo?
