Thanks, Steve.

Tow truck just came for the van and he said he will have it back in 1 1/2 hour! He is going to get a great recommendation to AAA. To be on the road before noon is fantastic.

stronghunter said...

Good morning, Lolly.

Lolly said...

Good morning! We are feeling good about the van. We really lucked out to be in a town, to be able to get to a good RV park, and to have a good mechanic. Also, we had a grocery store and a K Mart within walking distance. We have been taken care of. PTL

stronghunter said...

Definitely good that you are in a convenient location.

stronghunter said...

How was Colorado?

Lolly said...

Only problem, all 5 of us want on the computer. LOL Right now I am in control, but not for long.

deb said...

OK eaglet in the tree where it fledged to.

Mits said...

thanks for the call over Lolly, and the new thread, Steve...

deb said...

Lolly, how lucky all the way around, especially with the mechanic!

Lolly said...

We had fun! A fantastic time! Weather was great....had thunderstorms a couple afternoons but that is to be expected. Our biggest hike....on the way down we were rained on for 2 miles. We were soaked, but hey, we survived and we have a great story to tell.

Lolly said...

We saw lots of elk and deer. Did not see Big Horn Sheep, but did see our first snow shoe rabbit!

Have to tell you....Jacob (4) walked the whole hike, 5 1/2 miles and half of it was very strenuous going up. Was NOT one of the easy hikes. We all had rain proof jackets with hoods, except for Jacob. We put his jacket over his head and then Jack took off his jacket and put it on Jacob. We have really cute pictures of him.

At the top we hiked over a snowfield and on the way back they got to slide down a hill on their fannies!

Have to go now.

Well, guess what! We are still here. He has not kept his word of being through and having the van back in 1 1/2 hours. It has now been 4 1/2 hours. Boys are being great except for an occasional out burst. (They are normal children!)
LOL We have had lunch and are ready to hit the road as soon as they bring it back to us.

I see him, Deb:)

Lunch hour sure seems to go by fast. Time to head back. BBL

Gabriela said...

Hee, hee, Hidey almost tore the parent's leg off getting at the fish! She's a rude little teenager but I love her!

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Everybody!
What a treat! I've come up for some air after studying medical books all morning, and here's Hidey again! Whoohoo!

Oops! That'll teach me not to catch up on the blog-- please forgive me!

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, NILLA!
Hope your day is just the best!

Gabriela said...

huh, looks like after all that she didn't get any food. Curious.

stronghunter said...

Just looked in to see Hidey in the nest singing a little song.

Ms Bookworm said...

Boy, keep praying, you guys! Prayer is a powerful thing! Studying for a test on the last 5 chapters, AND for the Final Exam!

Need all the help I can get. I keep reminding the Lord of His promise that the Comforter will teach us ALL things, and bring ALL things to remembrance. Lord, do I ever need your help now! SO MUCH information,
and SO LITTLE time! (Every once in a while, I wonder why I didn't just take up doing crossword puzzles and apply for a retail customer service job to keep my mind sharp.) The thing is, I really believe this road I'm on is where I'm supposed to be. So what is needed now is a LOT of Divine intervention! Keep up the prayers, please, much prayer is needed! I'm so thankful for your support!

Hidey, thanks for your encouragement, too! Good to see you twice in one day, you little imp!
Now, BACK TO THE BOOKS! And thanks again, you guys! :o] :o]

stronghunter said...

Bless you, Andrea. I am sure you will be so happy you did all of this!

stronghunter said...

Beautiful bluebird, Wanda! I see the blue feet.

PA Nana said...

Hi everyone! Wishes to all the birthday people. Sounds like Hidey is singing a sad song. Prayers to all in need.

stronghunter said...

Trying to figure out what is going on with Hidey's right wing. Am I just seeing a shadow?

hedgie said...

Andrea, you will do fine on your exams!! We believe in you!
Storms heading this way....watches and warnings posted. It rained some while I was in town, but hadn't done anything here when I got home. One little sprinkle since then, but starting to look threatening now. Hang on, Hidey---it's predicted to be rough at your nest, too.
Hoping that Lolly and Jack and family are "on the road, again"---sure bet they wish they could be in their roost tonight.

hedgie said...

Margy, any special b-day plans this evening?

hedgie said...

Shirley, what did you see? Is Hidey lying still now, or is cam frozen?

Gabriela said...

I haven't seen Hidey resting & stretching like this in the nest in a long time!

Lolly said...

Nope....still here sitting on our bottoms! Boys are being great. We still plan to head out and drive late. Will stop for fast food supper and drive til dark. This is very frustrating. The mechanic did come to tell us it was more that the starter. Something to do with the ignition. Lovely...just lovely. We have emailed the yard man to water my plants once again.

Lolly said...

Going to leave the computer and head to the library group reading under the awning.

Bye!

Gabriela said...

I don't think there's anything wrong with Hidey. she was walking around looking fine a few minutes ago.

hedgie said...

i can't get still cam up at all to try to zoom in and look...

stronghunter said...

Hidey looks fine now. I think she was just in a strange position, but with Hidey that is not unusual. The feathers just seemed to be sticking up in a very odd way.

stronghunter said...

About to get a thunderstorm here. I went out to do some mowing and was greeted with rumbles of thunder, so I came right back in.

Gabriela said...

Hee, hee, Hidey is hunting flies!

stronghunter said...

Don't like to be out in a thunderstorm. This spring, a child was killed by lightning very close to here.

stronghunter said...

Storm. Hidey doesn't like it.

Gabriela said...

Looks pretty stormy at the nest. Hunker down Hidey!

stronghunter said...

Really a birds-eye view of a storm.

hedgie said...

Here comes the storm. Shutting down! BBL!

stronghunter said...

Hunker down Hedgie! I am going to hang on for a little while, but may have to shut down soon, too.

Gabriela said...

Birdseye view, absolutely! Pretty cool. Hidey is certainly paying attention. And you can tell the tree is swaying a bit.

Gabriela said...

we may lose cam. anybody know how hard it's blowing?

Gabriela said...

Hidey took off. Stay safe little one!

PA Nana said...

Stormy ... off Hidey goes into the wind. The rain is blowing across the nest and I hope wherever that bird is, s/he is hangin' on.
Gotta go, reluctantly, to fix supper for hard working hubby. Darn, I hate to leave not knowing if Hidey is okay. Will check in later.

stronghunter said...

Going to have to shut down here. Lightning.

Gabriela said...

I'm sure Hidey is fine. Probably perching close to the parents & learning how to handle a storm "on the wing"

Everybody be safe out there!

National Zoo panda update....

July 1

We recently planted three cryptomeria trees at the back of yard two. These large evergreens were rescued from the demolition for Asia Trail and have found their permanent home in the panda exhibit. The trees help to block the view of the building from the front of the exhibit, helping to create a forest for our pandas. So far the pandas have not even noticed them. Maybe this is because Mei Xiang and Tian Tian have been reintroduced for the year!

Their relationship always seems to pick up where it left off, with both pandas sharing their bamboo. Next there is a play session. The duration depends on the temperature, and it usually ends when Mei chases Tian back into his yard. Then it's time to go to sleep! Tian seeks out his air-conditioned grotto and Mei seeks out her ledge, on the side of her grotto. One can imagine that a similar cycle may repeat itself in the wild, with some communal bamboo grazing followed by a range of interactions from play bouts to fights, before each panda departs for its favorite napping place. With more and more research taking place in the field over these past few years, we look forward to more details about panda natural history.

A bullfrog has moved into yards three and four. We are hearing its loud, bass-level banjo strum in the middle of the day. Tai Shan interacted with it once at the moat edge, pawing at it and causing it to jump on his paw, which resulted in a similar leap upwards from Tai.

All the pandas have resumed their summer eating pattern. They have reduced their overall consumption of bamboo and are now eating leaves. They are more selective about which kind, as well as what part of the bamboo they will consume.

sure does look busted Bill.

Still having some family time, but wanted to thank everyone for your kind words, cards, and encouraging and complimentary comments. Remember as I often say, "It is the (Eagle) Company I Keep."

It's a joy to be an Eaglet Momster!

jmp - I think it is Lolly whom you might be referring to about the Breakdown Adventure...."As the RV Turns." - to be continued tomorrow.

I might not make it back on...until very late.
so Peace, Love, and Prayers xoxo

stronghunter said...

Storm is over . . . it hasn't hurt Hidey's ability to holler and fuss.

stronghunter said...

We got all kinds of rain and loud thunder. George puts his ears back and looks annoyed with all the noise.

hedgie said...

I have cam up---appears to be working, but MT nest! Hidey is near, tho'---making her/his presence known.
Hidey has tolerated much worse storms than this evenings'!! Just a nice gentle rain here now, which I know makes Megan and Wanda happy!

Psychoanalysis of the SC gov on CNN. Conclusion--"he's giving us too much information." Doesn't take a psychologist to figure that out!

Duh!! For sure not, Shirley!!
Speaking of politicians....thought I would pass on that Nobama did NOT send presidential/White House birthday greeting to Mom for her 90th. I followed all of the rules for submitting the request....

hedgie said...

Glad to have seen Lori on this morning....Mema Jo has been MIA today, hasn't she? Hope all is well!

hedgie said...

Thanks, Shirley, for clarification!

Mits said...

good night everyone:)

stronghunter said...

Night, Mits.

Had a router problem and had to do some rebooting, so I haven't been on for awhile.

Mema Jo said...

All is Well! There is a sleep over in a tent on my deck with 2 ggd and grandpa Mike. Such giggling I haven't heard in a long time! The rain earlier isn't dampening this event - porch light is on so it isn't too scary. Lightening bugs were so abundant and the girls caught quite a few.

Mema Jo said...

All has been quiet for a while - I think the sandman was at the tent!
I am sleeping in my own bed - this body too old without an air mattress!

Good Night All

stronghunter said...

How old are the ggds, Jo?

Lolly said...

Everybody heading to bed? Why it is only 9:50 here. We are trying to maintain our sanity. LOL My right arm beat Joseph in arm wrestling. Using left arms he beat me once. We tied the other times. LOL

Boys are bedded down, Jack and Laurel are outside enjoying a glass of wine. I am keeping the boys quiet. Jacob always has a hard time settling down, Joseph goes to sleep quickly.

We are here until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest. Guess we will do laundry in the morning. Excitement! Wish this KOA had a pool!

Lolly said...

Excuse me, looked at my watch wrong. It is 8:57 here.

stronghunter said...

Too bad you can't pick up and find a campground with a pool, Lolly. Any other types of entertainment there?

stronghunter said...

BTW, it is 11:00 here.

hedgie said...

Goodnight, Jo and Mits.
Lolly, does your KOA have a decent game room and/or playground? Hope so! Need something to keep those boys occupied!

Lolly said...

There is a playground. Also, they have some OLD video games that they turned on for the boys. Joseph has his bicycle but it has developed a flat. They have their little hand held educational games and Jacob has his little "bad guys", Joseph (8) loves the computer. We are all sharing it.

Lolly said...

Yes, can not pick up and go without the van. Yes, this is not the greatest spot, but the management is very nice.

Lolly said...

We have become acqainted with the owners dog, who keep escaping her fence. We have befriended Sadie. They have only had her a week. She was adopted from the pound. A very sweet, very shy dog.

stronghunter said...

Good night, Jo . . . you're probably already gone to bed by now.

Lolly said...

I do believe my boys have settled down. So, I am heading outside to join Laurel and Jack.

I will be back tomorrow.

Nite all! Sweet dreams!

stronghunter said...

Good night, Lolly. I am going to turn in too. Good night, Hedgie.

hedgie said...

Lolly, so sorry about your travel misadventure! Hope all is in repair soon.

Norma and Lynn, little fawns!! Aren't the the cutest! I've not seen any this year so far but I'm hoping to because there sure are a lot of deer here! Twins are usual after a doe's first baby, and triplets are actually not terribly uncommon!

Gwen, I hope your hip is feeling better. The steroid shot should be very helpful.

Dana, hope Ed did well on his big day out!

Lynn, hope your chest rads are clear!

Jo, I sure hope the ggd's and grandpa Mike had fun camping out!

Guess what! NO SNAKES for me this past camping trip!

We had early morning and late afternoon wood trush concerts, and a pileated woodpecker making a vocal and drumming racket as well! But the most incredible things was...we woke up at about a few minutes to midnight Sat. When we came out of the tent, we were SURROUNDED by lightning bugs...hundreds and hundreds of them! They were all around in a circle, about eye level high and a bit higher and I'm not sure how far away they were, maybe 30 feet and beyond. None were right on the campsite.
They seemed to have several different blinking patterns...one whole section, about a quarter at a time would alternate between blinking fast, slow and then not at all so then one whole section had no lights at all for about 30 secs or so, and then another section would do the same thing! It was one of the most amazing things we'd ever seen....and to think that it all MEANT something to them!!! It made us feel very humble to witness that beautiful work of God!
We watched for about 20 minutes then went back to the tent. Sure wish I could have recorded that!

Morning' Mits! Was just thinking of you as I watched the ADORABLE, CUTE, SWEET AND FUZZY flamingo babies at the zoo! Guess where I want to go this weekend!! I love flamingos.

Norma, it's hard to say, but I suppose if the doe is eating well and the overall food supply is good, they must have a high survival rate, esp. around here since there are no natural enemies.

normabyrd said...

LYNN2---AWESOME SIGHT!---Too bad you all didn't have a jar---you could have caught them & used them for light in the tent!---ho!---I bet that was beautiful!!---NOTHING BETTER THAN 'MOTHER NATURE'---

Lynne2 said...

Sadly, it seems to be "Detroit Disease" that kills alot of deer around here. I live in a very rural area, but all around things have been building up so fast over the years that they are getting pushed into smaller and smaller areas. Cars go too fast down the rural roads cause everyone is in such a hurry and many get hit trying to get from one field or woods to another.

Mits said...

and Mei and Tian are in the yard, playing/fighting together..love those flamingo chicks

Lynne2 said...

Mits, if I am ever at the zoo and you are there, could you get a fan to blow at the flamingo habitat so that maybe a stray feather will blow my way? hahahahaha!!!! I'd love to have a flamingo feather for my collection!

Good morning, Momsters and Dadsters.
Lynne2, I posted a link---I THINK it was last Fri.--to a news article about the lightening bugs....think it said something about the blinking pattern. Cruise thru' Fri. posts if you want to read it!
Yep, Norma...Lynne2 is right....biggest threat to the deer is traffic---and, of course, hunters. And yes, twins usually survive just fine!
In case anyone saw the coverage yesterday, Nobama's town meeting was held on campus of my alma mater!

normabyrd said...

On Phone---I have W CTR this am!!----but LYNN2---Oh my---here in our county--folks from city moving in building every where & clearing trees, etc-- & particularly our deer have no place to go---over in MD--They are killing bear on the highway all the time---so sad--but don't have any answers!!

WHOA! HEDGIE---are you misspelling our president's name on purpose?

Lynne2 said...

Oh my gosh Norma, how awful about the bears! It must take some kind of speed to kill a bear, and can't imagine the car/people far well either. Steve has only seen 3 bears in Western MD. and one of them was crossing one of the main roads in Deep Creek! Him, his friend Dave and his mom's husband were in the car and they all said it hard to register what was happening! They first thought it was a COW! Luckily they didn't even come close to hitting it. I REALLY want to see a bear...but not a dead one. I'd prefer to see a bear on my way OUT of the forest!!

hedgie said...

Yes, Norma...on purpose. I am mad at him....did you see my post from last evening? No birthday card for my sweet momma's 90th! Boobama!
Lynne2, I've related here, before you joined us, that I've had a bear here twice....first time it knocked over my decoy deer and was partaking of corn from the feeder; second time--a year later--he was just passing thru'. He was also seen sitting under deck of neighbors' house when their exterminator came...he didn't do his job that day!!!

it is probably on its way, Lynn, but it will be postage due:)

well that one did not work for Oregon eagle nest, guess I forgot how to do tiny url's, don't have my cheat sheet here.

Hidey must have found something to munch on.

I missed Hidey's landing ... and take off. But I can hear him calling for food from time to time.

Hidey did not stay long. I went to the kitchen, and when I came back, she was gone.

There's at least one eaglet feeding at the Norfolk nest now.

I think the Panda cam at Atlanta went down ... that whole page disappeared from my monitor ... without me touching anything.

Now it won't reload the cam page.

Good morning, I was all set to leave a message when the power went out. Finally back on.

I have a touch of the flu, yuck, nothing I hate more in the world. It just seems there must be a nicer way to clean out your stomach.

oh sorry Deb.....rest...

Good morning! Another lovely day in Raton, New Mexico! We had a good nights sleep. Had a deer walk by right by our trailer and we are in town by a busy road. I did not see it, but Laurel and Jack did.

Hopefully will get away by mid afternoon, but not counting on it until we see the van. The mechanic said he could not get the part until mid day today. We did not ask what he meant by mid day! Hopefully noon!

Boys are watching a movie, Laurel is doing laundry as well as washing breakfast dishes. Jack has settled into the "Library". Life in Raton moves on. LOL

stronghunter said...

Jim, I haven't ever looked at the Atlanta panda cam. The NZ panda cam was interesting this morning. One of the pandas was eating something that did not look like bamboo for a change.

Deb--hope you feel better very soon.

Good Morning Eagle Friends

Deb -
I hope the bug takes a hike pronto! sorry you're feeling bad :(

Hear kids and tractors, missed Hidey, had a fleeting feeling last night when the cam went kaput that we were DONE watching for the season...glad it is NOT SO !

Helen - love that new avatar! Hope all your traveling and week-end plans go well ☺

Lolly
Sure hope you are Homeward Bound soon!

xo

Lolly said...

Deb, sorry you are sick. How is the new job going?

stronghunter said...

You guys do keep up with way more cams than I do . . . I am still a newbie at this.

magpie said...

Lynne2 - Loved your camping adventure stories, and your commentary on the lightning bugs...
Oh yes, the Perseids, good ones to watch for, only problem sometimes is the summer haze. Pleaides comes out in the middle of the night then so you can always gaze upon that !

Shirley - I think you are keeping up just fine, and way ahead of some of us "Older" newbies...I'm only a toddler still. ☺

Best wishes for all on today's and the upcoming week-end plans.

So good to see everyone on here when they can make a visit ☺

stronghunter said...

Lolly, at a time like this, I guess you are glad you are pulling a trailer rather than driving a motor home. At least you are not having to stay in a hotel . . . or at the repair shop . . . that would be interesting.

We usually pulled a trailer, but did take a rented motor home once. They each have their advantages and disadvantages.

stronghunter said...

Thanks for the compliment, Margy. So many of you are really good with putting pictures, etc., on the blog. My children gave me a nice digital camera for Christmas. It has so many parts that I haven't yet learned how to use it. It's one of my projects for the summer.

Lolly said...

Yes, we do have all our stuff with us and Jack and I have our bed. We can also cook. Had pizza delivered last night. However, this trailer is not meant for 3 adults and two wild Indians! Also, Jack and I have our closthes stowed away in cabinets, but Laurel has two suitcases for her and the boys. We had to take them out of the van and put them in the trailer. More fun!

Mema Jo said...

Good late morning. I was here earlier but was busy with the 7yr & 4yr old ggd catching up with their night in the tent stories. They stayed in there all night!

Foggy Catalina Report

A foggy day in Avalon town....

But apparently all ... except one WE chick ... have fledged. And they got a few pics and clips, but they will try to get more later ... if the fog clears in a reasonable time.

I'm very sorry to hear you are not feeling 100% this morning, Deb. I always hate flues, or anything remotely like them. I get the shot every year, which at least keeps them from getting too serious.

I hope you are feeling better very soon... I'm trying to recall what Mom used to give us when the stomach settled down. I think it was usually consumme or broth. Then if that stayed down, on to the stronger stuff.

Of course, plenty of fluids and sleep always help... [:~D]

Yes, Lolly, I think your trailer is just a little bigger than the one we had. Ours was 21'. It was fine for two adults and two children, but then we had twins! That was when it got too crowded.

Lolly said...

We have a 23' trailer with a small slide out.

Gotta go now. Time to share the computer. I have been going between facebook and the blog.

Have a great day everyone!

stronghunter said...

I hope you have air conditioning. We did not . . . it was in the
1970's -- 1980's and we lived in Ohio when we bought it. Our house wasn't air conditioned then either.

We went to Utah one summer and the temp hit 100 degrees. That was the day I refused to cook in the trailer.

stronghunter said...

Bye, Lolly!

hedgie said...

Shirley and Lolly...when we built our house in '85-'86, we lived in two RV's for 10 mos.(Oct.-Aug.)!!! Our house sold too fast, and we didn't want to move twice! Plus, w/ new house being in a remote location, it was safer to be onsite. We had our 27' and BIL's 21 ft. Parked them side-by-side and put a plywood and tarp canopy over them, so no rain/snow in the entranceways. Of course, we had to wrap all pipes w/ heat tape and erect insulated skirts around the bottoms. We slept in one and used it for kitchen and dining, and the girls slept in the smaller one. Furnaces worked great and winter wasn't bad. Summer, on the other hand, was HOT...but thankfully AC was on in the house my mid-July, so that helped a lot.

magpie said...

Nice Report, Jim thanks for the Catalina report ☺ You are our Eyes on the West

Kaopectate always helped us kids with the runs, and my mother had some black and yellow capsules which I think must have been some form of Phenergan for the nausea.

Mema Sounds dreamy, what a great way to start your day with the camping reports.

Hedgie - Maybe the Nobama Staff screwed things up....and that greeting will arrive a little late....I sure hope so.

Off to the post office and such, see you Eagle People later.

Hope it's a good Wildlife Day, real or virtual...I hear that eaglet squealing....☺

What are you getting in to today, Margy? Do you have to work tonight?

magpie said...

Yes, Lynn going in at 6 pm for 12.

Slept in, but will catch a short nap before work time...

How about yourself ??

stronghunter said...

We lived in the 21-footer at a campground for a month when we first moved to VA because our house wasn't ready--was only supposed to be days, but you know how that can be. Fortunately, it was in the spring and the weather was mild.

The twins were newborns and I put them in a large laundry basket. By the end of the month, I was ready to tear the walls down. Had started looking at hotels and apartments. It was an adventure. Can't say I would do that again.

Mema Jo said...

Finally - the Lake Washington eagle nest cam is up and running! I have missed seeing them.

Adventure....
Sounds like an understatement Shirley!

Hey Mema: I sent Suzanne the link for the live streaming burrowing owls cam....her comment was, "I bet Jo is delighted."
That's a big 10-4 !

Mema Jo said...

Hedgie - did your mom and sister return home safely?

Mema Jo said...

Hey Margy - I was just watching them flitting around the burrow!

There is a perfect pic of the baby heron chicks in their nest on the Wild Watch cam - just double click on the cam so you can see them up close.

Looks like 4 of the 5 blue birds have hatched (also Wild Watch cam)

Deb - hope this is only a 24 hr stomach virus and you are soon over it!

Lolly - I'm sure there is a good reason you are stranded for now - maybe you can figure our what is was later on! lol

Prayers continuing for Ed and Dana!
They are heavy on my mind!

Just saw "my" red-shouldered hawk go flying by. Totally amazing the way birds can fly so fast and not crash into the trees! Almost had a thrush crash into me yesterday...a few were chasing each other and one flew under the deck while i was letting the dog out and he came right through the chain-link fence and almost nailed me! I had to duck!

hedgie said...

Yes, Jo, they made it home safely. Mom just called upset over seeing neighbor behind her...children put her in a nursing home and are clearing out her house...brought her with them today...in pj's and uncombed hair. They had to get rid of her pet--a cat she had for 15 yrs. Very sad. Lady is a hoarder, and place is a horrible firetrap....I know it's a disease, but her kids should have taken action sooner to get her help and to take care of her. Mom was in tears.
Deb, hope you are taking the day off work! Please feel better soon!

stronghunter said...

Hedgie--Lynn, I think--Was your trailer adventure when you were building one of your log cabins in the woods? I think you said you have built more than one.

BTW, your cabin is just beautiful. I can see how you are able to admire so much wildlife from there.
