I'm sorry I forgot to turn the lights out last night but I guess thats okay -- didn't want Shirley stumbling around in the dark. Then she' have to cuss. Gone for coffee. Back later.

We had a tragic accident in Romney--early Thurs am---Car with 4teenagers---hit a tree--over steep embankment!---1 killed---driver is the grandson of a close friend---what does one do--except pray---
Prayers and support for the family . . . sorry to hear about the accident, Norma.
Working with teenagers, I have been close to some of those tragic events. And having raised 4, I feel fortunate that mine survived their teenage years.
Wow, ya'll are hopping on here this morning!! I will be lurking again today, trying to stay on task as much as I can. When I start blogging, I fall behind really fast. I envy ya'll getting to go to the nest today! Wish I was there.
Wow, Norma, sorry to hear about that accident. Prayers for sure. Terrible, terrible thing to lose a child! Lives changed forever!
We are going to the lake this afternoon. Took the camper down last night and set it up. Just have to go to the grocery store and sit down when we get there this evening!
Morning all:) steamy is the right word, been cutting flowers since early morn, humidity is awful.
Hope everybody has fun at NCTC, not sure if I'll make it, waiting on water delivery and Fridays are busy days here getting ready for mkt. tomorrow. Back out to cut before the sun gets too hot.
Have fun at NCTC. Will be with you in spirit. Granson is with me again today. Already shooting spaceships. Will definitely make it to the pool later today.
Another bridge game tonight, but I have my trusty flashlight.
I am afraid I have lost yet another tree in my front yard. Poor little dogwood. They need more shade, I think, and this one needed more water. Think I will put in a crepe myrtle. Have had a hard time with trees in my front. Lost two large trees to storms . . . they were put in by builder and weren't the best choice--bradford pears. They're pretty but fragile.
HOA requires two. I am trying to have at least 3, just in case, but it has been a challenge.
Good Morning All! You know there has to be a good reason to see me before 9 am! To the nest I go today. Hidey will really surprise me if sighted! Maybe Belle or Liberty will be up on their limb BUT best of all I get to visit with some Momsters/Dadster!
Good Friday morning! Good to see y'all. Robyn, we've missed you! Norma, so sorry about your friends' grandchild--such a waste. Shirley, know how much it hurts to lose a tree. I lost a dogwood this year, too. Bradford pears are very shallow-rooted, so often go over in storms...like palms down south! Listen for our honks later!!!! Have a good day!
I am out of here - I'll be in touch later this evening. After nest visit it's over to pick up grandsons and head in to the Potter movie at 6:30pm. I know we will need to stand in line ahead of time! Grandsons are 18 and 14... this is a tradition (Potter movies) and we have hit them all so far!
Hurricane Iasbel took down the first bradford pear along with many trees everywhere.
It went over gradually; when we saw it, I sent my son over to warn neighbor to move his car. Neighbor came out and stood under the tree in the raging storm . . . downwind! Sometimes I wonder about that man.
I finally told him that I really wanted him to move before the tree fell on him. Fortunately, he did!
Ready to go out the door and up & down the mountain! Norma - I wonder which wrist! I am a good Catholic and I sure hope it wasn't his right wrist - how will he bless us! I do like our Pope!
Sounds like you might get some relief from the humidity today if it rains a bit! Weather report for SoCal, not so much. Should be near 90, with 85% humidity. Possible thunderstorms in the mountains, but not here.
We had a bit of an earthquake last night at 8:51pm PST. It was a 2.9, and was centered in Yorba Linda (very close to SIL & BIL's house); felt most strongly in Anaheim and the City of Orange. No damage reported. Was caused by the Whittier fault system, and began only 0.6 mi. below the surface, which is unusually shallow, whatever that means.
The nest looks like someone's been doing some nestorations! I see some nice new leaves there.
Norma, I'm so very sorry to hear of your friend's loss of a grandson! Prayers going up for that situation, for sure. What a tragic loss. Gotta run-- have an early Dr. appt., so must go get ready. Better get there early, in case it takes a while to find a parking space. Will check back briefly in a bit. Say, I hear a little birdie song in the background at the nest. How nice!
Say, Judie, coffee sounds like a really good idea right now. I usually get a couple extra hours of sleep after getting Hubby off to work at 3:45, but didn't this morning. Too much laundry to do-- thought it would be smart to do it early, before it's really hot. BBIALW-- the Godiva coffee is calling my name! LOL :o]
Funny how the eagles like to bring fresh greenery to the nest. Guess all of those sticks and leaves go into the construction later on when they get ready for the new family.
Oh Norma, so sorry. Those teenage tragedies are every parents worst nightmare. So hard to imagine losing a child, my heart goes out to the families. Makes me wanna hug my kid. Waiting on water delivery truck, so can't leave house til they show up, IF they even make it here today. First time I've filled my water tank this season, so I may not be high on their delivery list. Big ole batch of rain headed right at us...fingers crossed, may be a wet NCTC nest visit, and I hope it isn't but we need this rain desperately, gardens here are too large and spread out to have irrigation on everything.
MEGAN---Didn't see your blog--when I wrote my last one!!!---I had 3 teenage girls---so I can feel your pain!---My youngest daughter now has two teenage girls--16 & 14-----(but I do think girls are easier)---memories of my brother--ho!---I called my grandmother friend--whose son was the driver----so very sorry for the family---
Hi, Shirley, Hubby has an early shift; must be to work at 4:30am to do computer print-outs of all the orders to be shipped out each day. Has to drive to Ontario from Anaheim, which thankfully doesn't take as long at that time in the morning. Usually takes about 25 minutes. He has the keys to open the building, and must reset the alarm system. It takes a while to walk thru the building-- it's a quarter mile from one end to the other--over 700,000 sq. ft.!
Funny thing about the earthquake--it didn't even make the news on TV! Guess we have them often enough that it's not considered newsworthy unless it's a major shaker! Well, better run. Will BBL. :o]
Always worrisome when teens start driving, luckily we have another 7 months before kid can get learner's permit. Although she will be in 11th grade, she's only 15, a year behind most of her classmates many of whom have already started driving.
Say, I think one of my blogs got eaten up by a gremlin! Want to wish you guys going to the nest a fantastic visit! Have fun! Wish I could be there, too...
SHIRLEY---I always like to think he is bringing flowers to his mate----BEST thing about an EAGLE--'they mate for life'----Remember I worked over 25 years as an asst to our FAMILY COURT JUDGE!---
MEGAN---Here it's taught during school hrs--(or was) YOUNGEST had a teacher that stopped by his house & made p-butter sandwiches for them!---ho!--3 or 4 to car!!
Was quiet yesterday. Had a litte tummy ache but all better now.
So very sorry about the teens. Prayers for the families.
Looks a bit like a little storm here today so hope the NCTC group escapes the rain and has a wonderful time -- then rain for all who need it. Also hope you all get to see Hidey, Belle, Liberty. I am sooooo jealous decided to treat me and hubby to crab cakes tonight. Have to clean the crab --tedious but worth it.
All the best to Dana and Ed.
Norma, haven't seen any activity at Norfolk for several days.
Very happy Shirley has her flashlight -- don't want her cussing me!
Andrea, happy the earthquake was a non-event!
Also hope water is delivered and refrigerators are working.
Went out to Home Depot yesterday and bought two poles--one for birdhouse and one for feeder. It took the birds less than 5 minutes to find the new feeder location.
The pole is metal. Maybe it will prevent the squirrels getting to that feeder.
I don't mind feeding the squirrels, but like to allow the birds peace, and don't want my feeder chewed up.
WOW!---SHIRLEY---Those squirrels have FOOLED you again!!---They will be up the pole in a few secs!-----have read--one can put 'spray-on' stuff on the pole---& they can't climb the pole! ho!---I have fought with my squirrels for over 15 yrs---& they are still winning----so I decided to join them!! ho!!!
Will let you know what happens Norma. The ones that come to my feeder are pretty bold little guys. They have to come across a wide open space just to get here, so you are most likely right.
We did put a piece of greased metal around a tree once, and that stopped them from getting to the feeder that way, but the squirrels fell out of the tree. That worried me. Didn't want to hurt them.
DEB---We have been having those 50°nights all thru JULY!----Today -- raining & a cool 71°---YESTERDAY WAS HOT!!---but we are back to cool weather----no air needed!
About the squirrels -- haven't found anything to stop the wiley critters. Last year was cooking dinner one evening and a squirrel sat outside staring in at me as if I were its last hope for food. Finally opened the back door and inside garage door (which leads to the peanut supply). Squirrel just walked right in, took a peanut outside, then came back for more. I could not believe it. Finally it decided to take a tour so into the kitchen, through the dining room, through the front entry, back to kitchen, then to garage and outside again. Good thing the cats were asleep upstairs.
Storm warning here.
About the earthquake -- news said some creature, eels I think, were disoriented and came ashore.
Drizzling here. Sounds like it's raining at the nest. Guess pool trip is off.
Had to move into dining rain. Would never hear horn or much of anything save the storm alert alarms over the space battles being waged in my family room.
Good afternoon, everyone! I'm back from the doctor appt., with good news--she's cut out one of my blood pressure medications! My cholesterol has improved, too, and blood sugar was much better. (It had been kinda high with my bladder infection a week and a half ago.) To make a long story short, she gave me an 'A-', with instructions to come back for a check in 6 weeks.
Say, it sounds like it might be raining at the nest! How about you guys sending somma dat my way! Hope the lunch gang is having fun, and not getting wet!
Wow, Judie! You have some gutsy squirrel there-- wish I could meet the little guy. I used to have one, but haven't seen him lately. Hope he didn't meet up with a coyote! That's really interesting about the eels-- wonder why an earthquake would disorient them. It's strange-- I've heard the percentage of road kill goes up, and so do the numbers of stray dogs and cats, soon before an earthquake. Veeeerrry interesting!
Hi, Norma, S. Hunter, I missed the transition from deterring squirrels, which I know little about, and deterring ants, which I do know something about.
I learned some time ago that ants use their feet (at least the front ones) to smell and taste. And they will not walk on grease or oil.
So, I've been using an old can of CRISCO, which still was made using transfats, to coat the wire loop and the metal hook it hangs from ... where the two meet ... on my Hummingbird feeders.
So far it's 100% effective in deterring ants.
You could also use newer Crisco, Vaseline, mechanics grease, or any oil product. But the greases last longer and stand up to the elements better.
Try not to get the Crisco or grease on you or your clothes. And replace the stuff on your hanger every once in a while. The ants won't even "sniff" the feeder.
Great news, Andrea!!! So happy you got a good report so keep up the good work.
As for earthquake, when I was just me and lived in Ohio had two cats who started pacing and pacing and pacing. Couldn't figure out what was wrong with them. Checked all the usual like food, water. Then they curled up together in a ball in the center of the bed. About ten minutes later the whole apt. began to tremble. My first and only earthquake -- unusual in Ohio. I truly believe animals have some means of detecting these events.
In researching, I did find that one expert said that she's concerne about the hummingbirds wings brushing against the oil. I guess the trick would be to avoid using too much and keep it where the wings wouldn't be likely to touch.
We had an earthquake here in VA a few years back. Lots of rumbling and some shaking. I was at work. Strange feeling. I am sure our California friends would think it was nothing, but I won't forget!
Judie, when I was a kid and we lived near San Francisco, we had a pet parakeet. Seconds before an earthquake would hit, he would fly wildly around trying to escape his cage, or if he was loose in the apartment, he'd fly around like he'd lost his mind, until the shaking was over. It stressed him out tremendously. Never did figure out how he knew a shaker was coming.
Lived in a Dayton bedroom community called Vandalia. I worked for Air Force intelligence. Then this single Colonel showed up and then we ended up outside Washington 26 years ago. I don't recall an earthquake in VA. Maybe it didn't affect Annandale?
Looks/sounds like rain at NCTC. I still bet everyone had a great time together.
My adverturous squirrel was named slam dunk as he used to "slam dunk" peanuts from my fingers from the time he showed up as a tiny baby. Alas, he was hit by a car.
Can't wait to read the updates from today's NCTC excursion.
Afternoon Everyone. No bleating of baby deer here today, so can work uninterrupted! AM Home bird report is that the 2 baby robins were spotted in yard. The more athletic one took 3 baths!!, sat on the fence & adult brought it breakfast. Chick #2 hopped on the ground & couldn't flap to top of fence, but figured out it could go thru a hole (chainlink)!! Ms. Wren is staying in the birdhouse until Caruso comes & sings & then she takes a break. Norma, sorry to hear of accident and loss of child--prayers for them. It's been cloudy here all day, not a breeze. Went outside just before 2PM to do my rain dance, but started to sprinkle, so Kokopelli & I stayed on the ground! Hope the Momsters & Dadster had a great lunch! Maybe it's raining there. I'd love to go out & eat---had dinner in Athens hotel night before leaving----6-5!!!!!
I'm home and a little bit wet I bet Megan is soooooo happy as are all of our plants/flowers which are drinking in the rain! Beautiful rain!
No Sighting our Feathered Friends :( Lunch was enjoyed by Helen, Mary Margaret, Ceil, Jim, Lynn and myself. Cell phones have No Service in the Bldgs so we did contact Suzanne who was enroute and with the rain I think she decided to head on home. While driving home I had a message come onto the cell phone but it was all broken up and I couldn't hear the message from Suzanne. Maybe she was close enough to at least ride by the nest. It was great visiting with everyone. We did go into the Gift Shop - Lynn got us all a beautiful Eagle pin to wear.
HOME FROM SOGGY NEST VISIT. Not a sign of our eagles. Did you hear us honk?? Great company and a good meal, depsite everything. Mis-communication with Suzanne....we tried to call her and couldn't get signal; she tried to call us and we didn't get her calls. She turned around at gate and headed on home. Boo! Megan didn't make it----she must have been dancing in the rain!!!
Now I have an hour to rest up before picking up the movie goers! Hate the thought of standing in line for a good seat!
BTW It didn't start raining at NCTC until we walked into the Commons Bldg to the cafe. It has poured ever since then. They now have signs up at the barn near the nest that it is a 'restricted area' period. Use to say that after July 4 you could get closer.
Good afternoon! Wahooo!!!! Our sandcastles were still standing!! Can you believe it?!!!! Soooo, we added a moat and towers surrounding the two castles. The whole thing was approx 5 x 10 feet. We are soooo cool!! LOL We named the layout Hogwarts! Will have pictures to post.
Heard rumors that we have had rain at home. That would truly be a blessing. Jack opened presents this morning and Laurel has his surprise birthday dessert ready.
Gotta share! Just wanted to say Hi. We head home in the morning.
Still catching up on comments, but saw Andrea's mention of the quake....called my daughter...she felt it but didn't know what it was! Heard about it this am! Sure hope that it doesn't happen again!!! She just got out of her training class....my BFF and her son and g'girls are picking her up shortly and they are going to Disneyland!
Speaking of weather alert radio, Shirley...noticed this monring when I was unplugging phone charger that mine wasn't on....looked and had accidently disconnected it back when company was here...batteries died....and now I have to reprogram that stinker all over again....argh!!
hello, no eagles but good company, after lunch I went up to barn, but no eagles....heavy rain coming home, but none here....saw what I presume was presidential motorcade coming up Interstate 270, on its way to Camp David, tying up traffic as it went speeding by with sirens and flashing lights
Sun is back out. And HAPPY DAY!!! Myrtle Turtle is HOME!! She has been here the last four years, and I hadn't seen her yet this summer...I've been worried about her. Should have known that rain would bringher out!!! Yippee!! :)
07/17/09: We've chosen a winner in our Chick-Naming Contest, and we're just waiting to get the contact information from Wildcam. Thanks again to everyone who entered.
If you'd like to see what our young osprey looks like up close, check out this video of an osprey chick in the UK that is about the same age as ours.
Whoa! Now that is the way I want to travel.....speeding, sirens and lights flashing. Make way....Lolly is coming through.
Lynn, will pass along the birthday wishes to Jack.
Sorry you did not see the eagles today.
We have had a great week, enough sand and sun to last us a while! Just took a cute picture. Jacob fell asleep on the sofa with a marker in his hand. He was coloring one of those Crayola magic coloring books and the next thing we knew he was out. Yea!
I really didn''t expect to see the eagles. Was hoping maybe to see Belle or Lib but they must have been down by the river Don't blame them. We were up by the barn but we were not suppose to be. Signs used to say after 4th of July you could go up to that area. Enjoyed lunch and the company. Jo we forgot to take a picture of us. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACK
Yea, glad everyone had a good time at NCTC! Lolly your family adventures sound like great fun. You mentioned sand castles, so assume you were near water.Did you take the boys on the submarine????LOL Can't wait to see pics. Happy B'Day to Jack! Daughter in Austin called on way home from work yesterday & said outside temp on car therm. was 103!!! Heard it was hotter in Dallas. Lynn--great arrivals---Myrtle, Margy & James!! Is Myrtle a box turtle? Helen---way to travel--they should have been on your side of road in front of you!! Done w/work---outta here soon ☺
I am going to get off the puter now. Will pass on the HB wishes to Jack.
Loreeda.....we are at the beach at Port Aransas. You can google Pioneer RV Resort to see where we are. There are many RV sites, and only 5 cabins, and Laurel and the boys are in a cabin. We reserved the cabin and RV site close to the cabins last October. We cross the dunes to get to the beach on a board walk. Many campers have golf carts, we have a wagon! LOL Have seen many wagons like our! It is a great place and we have had a ball.
Lynn, I was fortunate to have my son around to program it. If you put an electronic device around him, he just naturally starts tinkering with it. I have been spoiled.
So sorry Norma prayers for the teens and their families. Scary..
Andrea great news good checkup gal ( :
Shirley I remember the earthquake in Va. Ed's cousin lives near Fredricksburg "Lake of the Woods". He was in a store I think around Culpeper and things fell off the shelves.
Wasn't there something recently about "giant squids" in California??
Glad toe is better Deb. Heading to Winchester today seen to kaykas on a truck and thought of you.
Jo enjoy movie with grandsons.
Wanda, GeeGee and family are probably eating crabs.
Lynn is close to picking up Margy and James.....BIG HUGS ....Welcome Home!!!
When you go looking at the record, there have been several quakes in the Culpeper area. The one I remember would have been, maybe in 2001, in the afternoon about 3:30-4:00 or so because school was out for the day.
I thought it might be one of the athletic teams running in the halls. I even went and looked down the hall but it was more intense that a bunch of kids running down the hallways.
Might have been a little later on--when the DC snipers were on their rampage, the teams did a lot of indoor running.
That's too bad, Mits, I wish you all would have gotten some.
We are in a much needed dry spell here, no rain in the forecast until Monday. It is only 75 today, we don't know how to act around here, it is so cool. I wore 3/4 sleeves last night when we went kayaking and was glad I had it on!
Our travelers are home--safe, sound but tired! A message3 from Suz FINALLY came through on my cell---very garbled but I think she said that the guard wouldn't let her in NCTC.........????? Mits, did she say what happened?
Hi, gang, Sure glad everyone had fun at NCTC today! I would've danced in the rain if I could've been there! What I wouldn't give for even a tiny shower this afternoon.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACK! HOPE IT'S A REALLY SPECIAL DAY FOR YOU!!!
Lolly, your sandcastles must be just beeyootiful! Can't wait to see pictures.
Lynn, so glad you found your Myrtle turtle! Our daughter & family had a desert tortoise that belonged to SIL's grandfather, but someone stole him! Broke our hearts. They really are special pets. BTW, Hubby has to go exchange the charger for his new cell phone and get a new one. The one he has quit working, so we're having to share my charger. Good thing it's insured.
I broiled some chicken thighs for dinner. Had thawed them out day before yesterday, and it was either prepare them for dinner, or throw them out, so you know which option won. Hubby's gone to the grocery store for some macaroni salad--neither one of us can stand the thought of eating a hot dinner! It actually doesn't seem quite as hot today, despite the humidity. I think it cooled off better last night, which made a difference.
Yep, Myrtle is a box turtle! I haven't read/watched any Harry Potter stuff, either....doesn't sound like anything that would interest me. And I won't read just to read...if I start a book and don't like it, forget it!
Before I forget, I must say "WELCOME HOME!" to Margy and James. Hope your trip was the very best! Can't wait to see pictures! Good to have you back! Gotta go now and put dinner together. Will try to get back here after dinner. Have a great evening, everyone! :o]
Lynn ,my messsage from Suz was a little garbled too. sounded like she got thru the gate, but with some trouble, and was in the commons area, but she could not reach any of us.
I hear Hidey but not a feather to be seen. Maybe calling for his eagle watchers?
So glad the NCTC group had an enjoyable day. Just happy the lights and sirens weren't for you, Mits.
Sure don't remember tremors but maybe too far south.
Lolly, your youngsters should enter one of those sandcastle contests.
Mits, was reading Zoo magazine earlier and was so amazed at the cleverness of our animal caregivers --fake stitches and nail polish for the female orangutans and I am not even going to discuss the hippo's tail function.
Still seem a bit under the weather so going to sleep early. In case I don't return tonight, someone please turn out the lights. Sweet dreams for all.
Hope you get over your bug quickly, Judie! Think I'll call Suz tomorrow, Mits, and get the "rest of the story"! I'mgoing to go soak in the tub and read---I'll probably fall asleep! Check back later.
Oh, BTW---they just announced that Walter Cronkite passed away earlier at age 92. Had heard last week that he was not doing well. Also, Frank McCourt who wrote "Angela's Ashes", among others, is gravely ill w/ meningitis and not expected to survive.
Good night, Judie. I'll bring a flashlight! We have a little heavier than drizzle, so probably no fireflies. Hidey kicked off, & the squealing is further away, so guess flew off. (We need a 2nd cam of the tree!!!)Fat chance.
Yesterday at Dr. office, was reading Chesapeake Life Magazine! It was for June & had wildlife bird pics among other neat things. A picture of 2 eagles reminded me of Deb's in blog homepage. They were next to each other & one was a little ruffled like it had gotten wet. Maybe can find it online or Library.
Hey Paula:) It's about to rain here again. When my kid was little, she read all the Harry Potter books. She read one of them in about 3 days and it was over 700 pgs. I figure any story that can hold a kid's attention like that must be a good read. She isn't really into them anymore, outgrown them I guess. I still like the movies though.
The water man got here about 3 pm, and we filled the tank in the rain...how fitting. I have discoverd that two mkts. is about all I can handle, because a mid week mkt. takes me away from the gardens too much and I can't keep up with maintenance. I have hooked up with a farm down the road who has a vegetable CSA and I am providing bouquets for their customers who were intersested in a flower share. All I have to do is make the bunches and drop them off on Tuesdays before 3, they take care of the delivery. The farm is aboput two minutes away from here.
Do they have driver's ed on site at your daughter's school? I had to take Michael to Frederick to Greg's driving school...fortunately he and 2 friends took it at the same time, so the parents took turns getting them there and back.
Megan, hope you get more rain out of this batch coming through. The flower drop sounds like a good deal for you and the lucky recipients of your flowers.
Paula, good luck finding the right real estate agent and have a good visit with you son.
Margy, welcome home.
Jack, Happy Birthday!
Judy, hope you feel better.
If I missed something, I apologize. I think I am headed to read. Night everyone!
Kid says they have it after school on the campus, got to find out when and how I get her signed up. She appears in no hurry to learn, me, I couldn't wait when I was her age.
I( had a typo in my rain message---1/16", not foot! I did go out & do a little dance for us. Hi Paula--you're not getting much of a weekend. I work Sat, but am off Sun & Mon. Evening Dana. How's your knee holding up?
College kid just called, be home around midnight, late night at work. Not going to wait up tonight, too tired! That's OK, he's coming to Mom's tomorrow with me, plenty of time to talk then.
Deb - I am doing my googling now on top 10 questions to ask a realtor.
I didn't get my license until 17 - they had driver's ed in school then, but the earlier birthdays got first dibs on the class, so I had to wait until my junior year.
Good idea to do some research, Paula, when my Dad died suddenly years ago, I had to sell the house my Mom was in and find her another. I had no idea what I was doing.
Raining here again, pretty steadily. Good night to all y'all. One tired momster here. Thanks for a great day. Hope everyone enjoys tomorrow---it's the first day of the rest of our lives! Peace and prayers.
Well, it's been 17 years since I sold my townhouse...had no clue what I was doing then. I know I would never sell again to a government subsidized buyer though!
I didn't get home until 10:00 from the movie and then ice cream treat and taking the boys home. It's been a very fun day! Fun but tiring. This movie of Potter should be the next to the last one. One more to go! Megan I think your gal read them all.
Good Night All Prayers for all our needs being said
Hi, fellow eagle lovers, I'm back for just a bit before I hit the books, and the sack.
HAPPY BELATED ANNIVERSARY, DELPHIA & HUBBY!!
Judie, hope a good night's rest puts you back in tip-top shape by tomorrow! Prayers for your healing! Prayers for all, for that matter, for healing, and restoration, safety and blessings.
Just got off the phone with my oldest granddaughter, who started a new job this week. Sounds like she likes it, and I pray for her continued success. She said the weather in the Dallas area has been just scorching lately! Guess we're not the only ones.
Am sorry to hear that Walter Cronkite passed away--he was indeed quite a guy. What an interesting life he led! He will be missed... and prayers for Frank McCourt--'Angela's Ashes' is amazing! Would hate to lose him.
Well, I think I'm going to hit the trail to dreamland. Last one out, don't forget to hit the light switch. (Don't trip in the dark!) G'night! G'night, Hidey, Belle & Lib, wherever you are! :o]
I wish the nest visitors had been able to see one of the sycamore family, but it just wasn't meant to be this time. I know they had a nice lunch...food is super there! And, of course, visits with each other is always a treat!
Termite guy has taken care of all the bugs...finally.
Crag legs were wonderful tonight...more than made up for the not so good ones we had last week.
Going to an auction of a neighbor who passed away 2 weeks aga. He has left everything to the Jehova's Witness Church that he belonged to. Need sleep.
PLEASE CARRY A FLASHLIGHT----lights are out!!!! NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INJURIES TO YOURSELF OR IF YOU FIND SOMEONE WHEN YOU FINALLY FALL, STUMBLE, HIT YOUR TOE, KNOCK OVER THE TRASH CAN, THEN GET GUM ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SHOES, Of course your'll have to scrub the floor before leaving tonight. Since you made all the mess so those coming in tomorrow morning don't step in it. SO BE WISE AND SHINE YOUR LIGHT TONIGHT----LIGHTS OUT NOW....NITEY NIGHT.

Oh, Judie, sorry about the gum on your feet. I came downstairs this morning to find that George had thrown up on my computer sometime during the night! What kind of message is that?
Fortunately, it's my laptop, and fortunately, it was closed. I always knew I needed to make sure to close it before leaving it with George around.
BEAUTIFUL skies at the OSPREY NEST IN FINLAND--#1 CHICK is really into the 'WING FLAPPING EXERCISE'--I think MOM & the other CHICKS are waiting for a FOOD DROP!!----

amen:)
have a good one Deb.
We had a tragic accident in Romney--early Thurs am---Car with 4teenagers---hit a tree--over steep embankment!---1 killed---driver is the grandson of a close friend---what does one do--except pray---
that is all you can do, Norma, tragic for sure.
Can't see the BURROWING OWLS---But there is a COOL TURTLE there!!---Too dark to see HERONS!!
Have fun at NCTC. Will be with you in spirit. Granson is with me again today. Already shooting spaceships. Will definitely make it to the pool later today.
Another bridge game tonight, but I have my trusty flashlight.
MEGAN!!---NPR says 'RAIN FOR SURE TODAY'!!!---I dearly hope so!---Don't think this 'ole bod' can dance another day! ho!
OOH! THANKS for your prayers--those teen years!----One never knows what will happen next!!---Feel for the parents!!!
SISSY---Watch your KNEE!---See I remembered!! ho!
Good Morning All!
You know there has to be a good reason to see me before 9 am! To the nest I go today. Hidey will really surprise me if sighted! Maybe Belle or Liberty will be up on their limb BUT best of all I get to visit with some Momsters/Dadster!
Norma I read about the accident there in Romney before going to bed last evening. Tragic! Prayers for all those involved and their families.
I am so glad to have heard from Robyn!
Must keep in closer touch!
I am out of here - I'll be in touch later this evening.
After nest visit it's over to pick up
grandsons and head in to the Potter movie at 6:30pm. I know we will need to stand in line ahead of time!
Grandsons are 18 and 14... this is a tradition (Potter movies) and we have hit them all so far!
BBL
ps: I see some nice fresh green leaves in the nest - someone must have been there recently.
Might be at pool when you honk. Will be thinking about you, though. (Probably should not take my laptop to the pool.)
JO!--Did you know the POPE broke his wrist----(slight fracture to his wrist)--doing fine---
That's Hurricane Isabel . . .
Pope Story
Pope Story
Sorry, first one does not work!
Ready to go out the door and up & down the mountain!
Norma - I wonder which wrist! I am a good Catholic and I sure hope it wasn't his right wrist - how will he bless us! I do like our Pope!
Bye, Jo. Have a safe trip. I hope you see our Hidey.
Good Morning, Everyone!
Good morning, Andrea!
Good that the earthquake was only a small one.
Andrea, 3:45! Good heavens! Either he has a long commute or an early start--or both.
WHOA!!!----BEAUTIFUL MEGAN!!-----'rain drops keep falling on my head'........a sound of thunder too---so i can't do the rain dance!!!!----ho!
Norma, I'm too tired to dance...
MEGAN---Didn't see your blog--when I wrote my last one!!!---I had 3 teenage girls---so I can feel your pain!---My youngest daughter now has two teenage girls--16 & 14-----(but I do think girls are easier)---memories of my brother--ho!---I called my grandmother friend--whose son was the driver----so very sorry for the family---
Hi, Shirley,
Hubby has an early shift; must be to work at 4:30am to do computer print-outs of all the orders to be shipped out each day.
SHIRLEY---I always like to think he is bringing flowers to his mate----BEST thing about an EAGLE--'they mate for life'----Remember I worked over 25 years as an asst to our FAMILY COURT JUDGE!---
MEGAN--Is she taking driver's ed at school?---saves lots of yelling!!---ho!
Gotta look into that when they go back to school, Norma, they have it after school.
MEGAN---Here it's taught during school hrs--(or was) YOUNGEST had a teacher that stopped by his house & made p-butter sandwiches for them!---ho!--3 or 4 to car!!
Hello, coffee finished!
Okay, off to clean crab meat. Back later!
Judie
Went out to Home Depot yesterday and bought two poles--one for birdhouse and one for feeder. It took the birds less than 5 minutes to find the new feeder location.
The pole is metal. Maybe it will prevent the squirrels getting to that feeder.
I don't mind feeding the squirrels, but like to allow the birds peace, and don't want my feeder chewed up.
Juie--you were just being a good steward of our natural resources! And, sometimes, darkness is a good thing.
Forgot, Mema Mo enjoy the grandsons AND the movie. Nice to have time together.
Judie
HEY KIDS!---This is NAP weather--a slow cool rain--temp is now 70°!--big difference from yesterday!!
Wwe alreay have a severe thunerstorm watch here. I have one of those weather radio things with an alarm loud enough to wake the dead.
. . . thunderstorm, that is.
Sometimes that alarm can interrupt a perfectly good nap to tell me it might possibly storm.
Guess it also disrupts my keyboarding skills, such as they are.
WOW!---SHIRLEY---Those squirrels have FOOLED you again!!---They will be up the pole in a few secs!-----have read--one can put 'spray-on' stuff on the pole---& they can't climb the pole! ho!---I have fought with my squirrels for over 15 yrs---& they are still winning----so I decided to join them!! ho!!!

Happy visit to the NCTC campus today. If you see Hidey, please snap a lot of pics.

Will let you know what happens Norma. The ones that come to my feeder are pretty bold little guys. They have to come across a wide open space just to get here, so you are most likely right.
Just put Skin so Soft on the bracket for the hummingbird feeder. That is suppose to prevent ants. Will see about that, too.
We did put a piece of greased metal around a tree once, and that stopped them from getting to the feeder that way, but the squirrels fell out of the tree. That worried me. Didn't want to hurt them.
MIGHT try the 'Skin So Soft'---where do you get it?
Avon. It's supposed to repel mosquitoes, too. Not actually sold for that purpose.
According to the source, the ants don't cross over oil, and SSS is oily. You might do just as well with a little corn oil.
Lunch time here.
We set a new overnight low last night. It got down to 50! Not sure if these temps are headed your way or not. I sure hope you all get rain!
I haven't heard a car horn yet, maybe they are at lunch.
DEB---We have been having those 50°nights all thru JULY!----Today -- raining & a cool 71°---YESTERDAY WAS HOT!!---but we are back to cool weather----no air needed!
It has been a strange year for weather, Norma. July has been very cool and wet, opposite of what it is supposed to be.
bbl
Later,
Judie
need food--
Drizzling here. Sounds like it's raining at the nest. Guess pool trip is off.
Had to move into dining rain. Would never hear horn or much of anything save the storm alert alarms over the space battles being waged in my family room.
Judie, I hate to think what might have happened if the cats had come down and discovered a squirrel in the house!
George gets all twitchy when he sees one outside. Of course, he might not be too brave if he came face-to-face with one. Do not want to find out.
... I moved to the dining room. Got rain on my mind, though.

Jim
Great news, Andrea!!! So happy you got a good report so keep up the good work.
As for earthquake, when I was just me and lived in Ohio had two cats who started pacing and pacing and pacing. Couldn't figure out what was wrong with them. Checked all the usual like food, water. Then they curled up together in a ball in the center of the bed. About ten minutes later the whole apt. began to tremble. My first and only earthquake -- unusual in Ohio. I truly believe animals have some means of detecting these events.
Must be the weather cause I also feel like a nap.
Back later,
Judie
In researching, I did find that one expert said that she's concerne about the hummingbirds wings brushing against the oil. I guess the trick would be to avoid using too much and keep it where the wings wouldn't be likely to touch.
Raining big time here now. I put plants on the steps so they will get a good soaking.
We had an earthquake here in VA a few years back. Lots of rumbling and some shaking. I was at work. Strange feeling. I am sure our California friends would think it was nothing, but I won't forget!
Where in Ohio did you live, Judie?
Judie, when I was a kid and we lived near San Francisco, we had a pet parakeet. Seconds before an earthquake would hit, he would fly wildly around trying to escape his cage, or if he was loose in the apartment, he'd fly around like he'd lost his mind, until the shaking was over. It stressed him out tremendously. Never did figure out how he knew a shaker was coming.
Have been listening for a horn toot at the nest. Noticing some interference with the signal. I suppose the storms causing a problem.
Later,
Judie
YAY, I got 100!! Now back to work BBL
My time in Ohio was in the Columbus area. We moved to VA in 1980.
I'm home and a little bit wet
I bet Megan is soooooo happy as are all of our plants/flowers which are drinking in the rain! Beautiful rain!
No Sighting our Feathered Friends :(
Lunch was enjoyed by Helen, Mary Margaret, Ceil, Jim, Lynn and myself.
Can't wait until Oct when more Momsters/Dadsters are at the open house!
Lynn picks up Margy and James at
5:30 (meaning the train is on time)
in Martinsburg
Anxious to hear from her about the trip.
Going to rest for 1/2 hr........
Good afternoon! Wahooo!!!! Our sandcastles were still standing!! Can you believe it?!!!! Soooo, we added a moat and towers surrounding the two castles. The whole thing was approx 5 x 10 feet. We are soooo cool!! LOL
We named the layout Hogwarts!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACK!!!!
Guess we should have honked with my truck instead of Jo's car!! We were at the barn---close enough you all should have heard it!!!
Yippee!! :)
Jim, did you feel the tremor???
BWO UPDATE...
Nest Update
07/17/09:
We've chosen a winner in our Chick-Naming Contest, and we're just waiting to get the contact information from Wildcam. Thanks again to everyone who entered.
If you'd like to see what our young osprey looks like up close, check out this video of an osprey chick in the UK that is about the same age as ours.
yea for Myrtle
Mits, you made good time! Saw where Catoctin closures were announced in paper, so figured he was having a weekend up there!
Yea!
Heading for train station in a few minutes. BBL!
It was good to see Robyn on today.
Good Evening Eaglelanders
Happy Birthday Jack
Need to catch up on todays thread.
Happy Birthday, Jack!
LOL
Have seen many wagons like our! It is a great place and we have had a ball.
BBL
Dana, I go by Lake of the Woods every day I go to work. Often stop at the Blooms across Rt. 3 to do my grocery shopping.
Bye for now. Going out to play bridge.
I am home for work, but of course, I have laundry to fold and dinner to figure out. Not sure what I am hungry for.
I am glad most of you got rain, I sure hope it helped out Megan's flowers!
most of my rain was on the way home from the nest, Deb, very little if any here at the house:(
That's too bad, Mits, I wish you all would have gotten some.
We are in a much needed dry spell here, no rain in the forecast until Monday. It is only 75 today, we don't know how to act around here, it is so cool. I wore 3/4 sleeves last night when we went kayaking and was glad I had it on!
lol...so much for global warming:), Deb
hope Jo is enjoying her movie....I have never jumped on the Harry Potter bandwagon.
I haven't either, not books or movies. it sounds like they have a good time going to the opening nights.
Our travelers are home--safe, sound but tired!
A message3 from Suz FINALLY came through on my cell---very garbled but I think she said that the guard wouldn't let her in NCTC.........????? Mits, did she say what happened?
Hi, gang,
Sure glad everyone had fun at NCTC today!
HI everyone,
I hear Hidey but not a feather to be seen.
Judie
feel better, Judie
Hope you get over your bug quickly, Judie!
Think I'll call Suz tomorrow, Mits, and get the "rest of the story"!
I'mgoing to go soak in the tub and read---I'll probably fall asleep! Check back later.
Oh, BTW---they just announced that Walter Cronkite passed away earlier at age 92. Had heard last week that he was not doing well. Also, Frank McCourt who wrote "Angela's Ashes", among others, is gravely ill w/ meningitis and not expected to survive.
Evening Everyone!
Hear loud squealing & a clunk near mic~~~~~~Come on Down, Hidey!!!!
Oh feel so badly for Suzanne that she wasn't able to catch up with the rest of you. She is such a great lady.
Judie surely hope you feel much better very quickly.
Good night, Judie. I'll bring a flashlight! We have a little heavier than drizzle, so probably no fireflies.
Hidey kicked off, & the squealing is further away, so guess flew off. (We need a 2nd cam of the tree!!!)Fat chance.
early a.m. feeding at Finney's
good night everyone..
Under half an inch of rain here, not enough, but it looks like it may rain overnight.
Oh Megan~~~I think we have 1/16th'
I still have my Indian shirt on---guess I need to go out & dance!
Night for those leaving.
When I was coming back from Winchester today. It rained so hard that on I-81 traffic was 30 mph.
Yeah, hubby said it poured in Hagerstown, most of the heavy rain went by us.
By the way I don't know if it was mentioned in yesterdays blog.
BirdGirl-Delphia had an Anniversary yesterday. HAPPY ANNIVERSAY A DATE LATE DELPHIA & HUBBY!!!!!
Evening, all!
Another long day at the office!
Glad the nest visit went well...sorry our Moutaineers didn't show! Sorry about Suz, too!
Waiting for college kid to arrive! Haven't seen him in over a month.
Heading to Mom's tomorrow to meet some realtors...then have to work on Sunday.
Hey Paula:)
It's about to rain here again.
When my kid was little, she read all the Harry Potter books. She read one of them in about 3 days and it was over 700 pgs. I figure any story that can hold a kid's attention like that must be a good read. She isn't really into them anymore, outgrown them I guess. I still like the movies though.
Never read Harry Potter...
Walter Cronkite...what a man. May he RIP.
Enough rain here to make the grass greener :) Not sure how much, forgot to check the rain gauge.
Dana - the giant squids are washing up on the beaches and in the shallow waters around San Diego...they aren't sure why...
Hey, Megan, did you ever pick up another market? Did your water truck guy ever arrive?
Gnite, early bird Mits.
That flower drop sounds convenient. Sorry you missed the nest visit today.
Yes, Jack, Happy Birthday!
and Happy Anniversary to Birdgirl and hubby!
Gnite, Deb.
Gotta get things ready for tomorrow.
Night all, Pleasant Feather Dreams.
Good Night All
Prayers for all our needs being said
(((hugs))) ♥
Glad you had such a nice evening Jo.
Hitting the hay here, catch ya'll tomorrow night.
Hugs to all ♥
Hi, fellow eagle lovers, I'm back for just a bit before I hit the books, and the sack.
HAPPY BELATED ANNIVERSARY, DELPHIA & HUBBY!!
Judie, hope a good night's rest puts you back in tip-top shape by tomorrow! Prayers for your healing!
Prayers for all, for that matter,
for healing, and restoration, safety and blessings.
(Don't trip in the dark!)
G'night!
Need sleep.
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
SWEET DREAMS
PRAYERS FOR ALL
WELCOME HOME MARGY AND JAMES:):)
