Oooh, no snow here...no thanks... 42° and the sun is trying to shine. So far the wind is not too bad, supposed to pick up to 15 to 20 mph. There's a Mason update:) Have a nice day:) sounds like the trip on the 21st will be great fun! Back to the GH....
GOOD MORNING AGAIN EAGLE BUDDIES!!-----CONGRATS! MAULEY---you are our #1 EAGLE MOM---today & everyday on our new thread!!!---MORNIN' MAULEY---HEDGIE---SHARON & MEGAN!!
Hi! I'm new to this site. I was at the F&WS NCTC last week for a meeting and fell in love with the eagles. I could not take my eyes off the nest and on breaks walked along the road near their tree to watch the parents. I figured out from this thread that the parents' names are Belle & Lib or Liberty? And the eaglet is Hidey? I notice entries make reference to other nests but regarding the NTCT eagles - has anybody seen the parents this AM? Thanks!
WELCOME GABERILA!!---Isn't it easy to FALL IN LOVE WITH OUR EAGLES!! First time I went to the nest & saw the EAGLES----'I THUGHT I HAD DIED & GONE TO HEAVEN'!!----- ho!
04/08/09: Another encouraging mating shot. We hope that the third osprey is starting to lose interest and will move on so our couple can get down to producing eggs in peace.
Past laying dates for the first egg were April 11, 13, and 25.

The sky in Finland looks pink and blue....not really cloudy, but guess that it's sunset colors. Didn't remember that they were far enough north for the long arctic-type days...but hope it happens soon!
You will never believe this.....Finney looked so dark to me because I had my screen at an angle that caused light distortion in the image.........duh!!!!!!!!Feeling SO stupid!
GOOD MORNING...I just spoke with Greg Lewis, from Patuxent River Park, a little while ago. I have sent out emails to those who are interested in going with us on the Road Trip. Greg told me the Boat Tour and the Bus tour are AWESOME. We still have room for a few more, if you would like to go along. Just let me know:) We will be leaving Martinsbug and 8am and Frederick around 8;45 and then on to Patuxent. About a 2 hour drive...will get home aroun 5 or 6am....unless we stop somewhere and PARTY!!lol
Finney nest looked more comfortable when it had snow in it!!! Looks like it is nothing but sticks...needs some padding! Of course, water newst, too, lookds hard!! Wonder how long before their snowcover melts on land?
OH, MY GOODNESS... Thanks, Helen for bringing my GOOF to my attention! LOL the time to arrive home will be 5 or 6 pm, UNLESS we want to PARTY...then it will be 5-6AM!!;) NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE INTO GEEGEE'S. She is not real happy about having these tests, but knows they are important. BBL
Then I guess man imitated nature pretty well, Mits!!! At least it doesn't have a tarp base like the owl nest, or the green meshy stuff I noticed someplace else!
Margy's day doesn't sound too bad, but sure there is angst today....two FF's injured last evening in another apparent arson (barn this time)...thankfully, neither sound serious, tho' one was taken to Fairfax for treatment. Also a FF critically injured in an arson fire in PG Co., and a resident died in a fire in Vienna (my SIL's previous station). I'm sure these crazy winds are causing the fires to burn worse and it is very frightening.
hi, all.... been lurking in your blog for the past few days and really enjoy reading your posts. i love watching the baby eagle andtune in daily... one question... not sure how you all get to look at other sites. can you advise me. also, i am amazed that they can catch squirrels... the ones around here are so fast!
oh, hedgie, thanks so much for telling me about the beakspeak... i can see hours of sitting here watching!!! i watched a pair of eagles in my town last year... when they finally left the nest, i was so happy and sad at the same time.... my babies were gone! so glad i found this site!
Hi Everyone. Welcome to all the new bloggers. I have been meeting myself coming and going all week. Getting ready to sleep now as I worked last night. Got my favorite cam up that I can see and hear...turned down the hum, but I think i hear the wind.
Will turn on some elevator music LOL and get some rest.
Jamie, if you watch the water nest for any length of time, you will see ferry boats and cruise ships back in the background! Sometimes sailboats toward the front, but probably still too cold there for that this year!
Welcome to all our newcomers! I am so thankful you have come right in and made yourself known! Please ask any questions of us "oldies" - we've all been new at one time or another and know where you are coming from!
Hello again Eaglewhiz972! Morning comments would lead you to believe that all is well at the nest. The sound seems to have returned to the cam - yepper it sure is windy and I think it will continue for a few days.
Paula - just watched your video of the 'wingercises'! Precious! Won't be long before Hidey is be-bopping all around the nest!
EagleWhiz & Jamie - If you click on the avatars you can find personal blogs with pics & videos. Just use the back arrow to return here. Paula has a great one on now if you get a chance to view.
WANDA.......I will be more than happy to save you yellow columbine seeds. Yellow columbine is common in the nurseries here. I would love to have some seeds from your purple columbine. Anxiously awaiting your road trip this way! I can mail you the seeds if it is not anytime soon.
For those of you who have never seen the nest, if you were standing in the road looking over at the sycamore tree, you would be looking directly at Belle's butt!
Just woke up and my pop up was frozen. Easy enough to refresh though then lots and lots of wind argh!!!! Makes me nervous. Guess they surley know how to hunker down. Time to find some food here.
Last I heard our gusts were at 36 mph.....mild compared to what we went through at the end of last week! THAT was when it was really scary, newbies!! Lolly, did you get your injection today? It will be probably worse for about 24 hrs. and then start feeling "gooder"!!!!
Have been investigating the eagle situation along the GW Pkwy and the Potomac....one source says there are 20 nesting pairs along the river...don't know whether that includes ours or not. One nest just south of Alexandria appears to be non-viable, despite numerous episodes of HP caught on camera. The pair have been named Alex (for the city) and Belle for the country club along whose property the nest is located. There has also been some invasion trouble. For some interesting narrative and some fantastic photos, here is the link:
Well, I got a letter from Charlottesville today from my surgeon's office. The blood work they did on 3/5 came back with an almost nonexistent vitamin D. It was less than 2.5 and it is supposed to be between 30 and 80. They also told me I have iron deficiency anemia. Tried to tell them that while I was there but they wouldn't listen. I go tomorrow for my second iron infusion.
I am home, we didn't find any Great Horned Owls, but did find lots of other stuff. It will take awhile to process my pictures, I took too many. Time to feed dogs and myself.
No, I think the hawk got lucky and caught the robin. It was interesting to see. The robin is almost as big as the hawk. Oh, just thought maybe the robin got hit by a car, it was right by the side of the road.
Okay, the nest that SIL is seeing is apparently at Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve, which is part of the National Park Service along the GW Parkway. Incidental observance mentioned but can't find any particulars or pics.
LYNN.......thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! You are the best. Got my shot at around 11:00. Did some shopping for grandkids Easter. Went to five stores,no knee problem. Ate lunch on the patio, it was starting to hurt. As the day progressed it got "worser and worser". Anxious for it to get gooder! In the mean time I called the doctors office. He failed to tell me it would temp get worse. They did return my call and tell me that was normal. WHY did they not tell me?! Duh!
My knee has not really hurt until today. It has been swollen and sorta funny feeling. Let's hope this shot works!
Sharon, are you taking supplemental D....and spending time in the sun? They say 10 min. 3xwk. is best, but if so deficient, I'm sure you need something more....can they give it by injection? Can't remember! I doubt that capsules will do much good because of the absorption factor. How often are they checking your iron?
Lolly, it didn't hurt at first because of the novocaine-type anesthetic they mix in....but they should have told you to stay off of it, and not go shopping. Let's put you in a recliner or on the sofa with it elevated and put an ice pack on it, okay??? You and Jo can commiserate over being put in time-out! This is your nurse talking!
It is so neat to see both the eagles around the nest and the little one in the nest. We want to go to OK, but now it looks like it will be early May before we can go.
Lolly sorry for your pain. Nurse Lynn has been a great help in telling you the information she has. Putting you in time out with ice and with the leg up...she is "the bestest nurse" ( :

Hi Loretta and Glo. Figured you must have been working alot, Glo, since we haven't seen you in awhile!
Jamie, if you watch the water nest for any length of time, you will see ferry boats and cruise ships back in the background! Sometimes sailboats toward the front, but probably still too cold there for that this year!

Welcome to all our newcomers!

Jamie - What State do you hail from?
Hello again Eaglewhiz972! Morning comments would lead you to believe that all is well at the nest. The sound seems to have returned to the cam - yepper it sure is windy and I think it will continue for a few days.

BBILW
Daggone, I missed it!
Lib just brought in a fish, and left in a flash...Belle is munching on the fish
Hidey appears to be eyeing up that fish, LOL
Belle must have been very hungry the way she took the fish from Lib and started stuffing it down.
Now she is feeding Hidey! (Who is hiding behind her)
Lolly, I think fish is Belle's favorite meal!
I would rather eat fish than squirrel too, LOL!!
Belle is really watching something!
You can see her eyes blink!
Yes, fish must be her favorite. LOL Yes, if you have to eat raw food, make mine fish, too.
I was gone all morning. Just read through the blog quickly.
Welcome, newbies! I was new last year. You could not be at a better blog. This is the ONE! This is the greatest group of eaglet momsters and dadsters.
WANDA.......I will be more than happy to save you yellow columbine seeds. Yellow columbine is common in the nurseries here. I would love to have some seeds from your purple columbine. Anxiously awaiting your road trip this way! I can mail you the seeds if it is not anytime soon.
Think that I lost the sound....
Lolly - I love your hanging pots out in your garden!
What a great view we are having right now!
I still have sound, Jo.
Mine is still on - I had the zoo cam up and think I had that sound with the panda but when I closed it my nest sound came right on........
Scratch where it itches, not where it looks the best. LOL Did you see Belle scratching?
Look how far over Hidey is!! Time to start getting a little nervous!
I love the picture on NBG. Eaglet babies all over the nest!
Hidey is not in view. Belle is hiding her.
Interesting pic at CO. Eaglets are in the shadow of parent. You can barely make them out.
Going to fix a snack. Hunger is calling!
I see Belle saved some of that fish....she just picked it up and put it back down next to squirrely.
BBL - Time to think about dinner
Going to limp outside and supervise Jack working in the yard. My knee is bothering me. Boo Hoo!

Anybody know if I could find the nest in Google Maps?

yah
oh wow. very very windy still and... WHERE IS THE BABY??!!! I cant see it.
Hidey is doing what she loves best - hiding!
Belle has been at that same spot on the nest for 2 hours...
For those of you who have never seen the nest, if you were standing in the road looking over at the sycamore tree, you would be looking directly at Belle's butt!
yes. Hidey probably is cold in all of this wind.
Just coming in this evening. Read comments from other thread. Need to catch up on these on this thread.
Hi Everyone in Eagleland ( :
hello again dana.
Good afternoon Dana!
you really have not missed very much. it's just still very windy and Hidey is hiding.
Welcome again Eagle Wiz972 I always feel I miss something when not watching our nest cam.
Welcome and Hi Cat :3 and Jamie.
Do you all live outside of West Virginia...you can just give your state if you want. Definately no address!!!
AT 3 weeks, the eaglet has grown in its warmer down coat. I don't think Hidey is cold.
Catch ya'll later.
Later Paula I guess that means from home.
Paula I loved the video ty very much. I also fed your fish while I was there. Chick really stretching those wings lol
Wow, both just took off at the same time!!
And one came right back!
That wind makes me feel cold !!
Sorry looking back in comments. There was a new person "Teddy"...Hi Welcome.
Have been investigating the eagle situation along the GW Pkwy and the Potomac....one source says there are 20 nesting pairs along the river...don't know whether that includes ours or not. There is also mention of the nest further south that I think is the one my SIL is talking about...will continue to look for info on it.
I am home, we didn't find any Great Horned Owls, but did find lots of other stuff. It will take awhile to process my pictures, I took too many. Time to feed dogs and myself.
We saw a Cooper's Hawk with a robin, poor robin had to feed the hawk. :(
They think they had a hatch at "PH".
That's strange, Deb....why would that be? An abandoned young 'un??
OK that was a hatch on April 7th for both PH and WE. Thought they mean't they had another.
Here's another link to Alex and Belle...a flickr site...with a lot of cool links on it!!
More Eagle Pics
No, I think the hawk got lucky and caught the robin. It was interesting to see. The robin is almost as big as the hawk. Oh, just thought maybe the robin got hit by a car, it was right by the side of the road.
Belle just arrived...Lib headed to the back of the nest. Hidey is loving life in his bowl.
And
Belle had something dark in her right talon
She brought a fish!
Fish sticks for Hidey tonight!
Forgot to say Lib left.
Nice to hear Hidey peeping!
Time to cover up the eaglet!
Whoa! Love this cam. Eagle just landed!
Lib arrived with more fluff and took off again!
BBialw...
Lynn.....love you! I am in my recliner and have had ice on it. Sure wish they had told me that.
I do not LIKE time out. LOL I want to go out and work! The pain is keeping me still. I do not want the limping to affect my hip and back. Yikes!
Look, quick at OK!
OK baby just climbed out of the egg well. Almost fell over backwards. So cute!
Cute poop shoot at OK.
It is so neat to see both the eagles around the nest and the little one in the nest. We want to go to OK, but now it looks like it will be early May before we can go.
Poop shoots can be cute, right? LOL
Lolly sorry for your pain. Nurse Lynn has been a great help in telling you the information she has. Putting you in time out with ice and with the leg up...she is "the bestest nurse" ( :
Hi Eagle Friends.
I can see the Flower M☺☺N and it's a beauty!
Hope you all can get a gaze Eastward..
