I sent a couple of pictures to Steve, regarding our concerns about Belle's Beak, and he thinks she probably got tangled up in something, and he will keep an eye on things. Also reminds us that "these are Tough Critters that Lead Tough Lives..." So true !
Dana I also mentioned that you had seen Belle getting knocked out of the nest last week..
GOOD MORNING AGAIN EAGLE BUDDIES!! & THANKS STEVE---for the new thread----ENJOY this GLORIOUS DAY!----MORNIN' & WELCOME TAPTEACHER!!!----(i have to ask---do you teach dancing)?
WHO HO I just got to see ALL 4 eggs at Conn Osprey!!! Thanks Kidd and Lola...good job! Now for hopes they all hatch...and with no little ones getting caught in those plastic pop can wrappers!
RED---Forgot to ask--but I'm sure you probably have read GRISHMAN---newest!!--'THE ASSOCIATE'---Was at the book store last week---which is 19 miles away!!---ho!---in WV that's 'across the street'---RIGHT HEDGIE!!
Norma, my oldest Grandson once played baseball with John Grisham's son. My daughter had been a fan of his BEFORE the ballgame, so she was thrilled to meet him! Their's was the out-of-town team, in the playoffs.
Norma 18 miles is short for us. Remember Red has that very large lawn with a lot of trees. Probably is one (could be main) reason moving. We had to do the same with hubby on oxygen. Couldn't take care of the large yard. So we down sized.
Dana: I was watching EJ squirming all around and moving things around in the nest Just right - then Odin came in and they mated twice - so I didn't miss seeing it by much! I think they are 5 hours ahead of us.
Thanks for the Great News! Chrissy will be totally in heaven now....
I just found the Eagle cam. Can someone tell me the approximate size of the eaglette? I read that it was about 1 month old and I am curious about the size. Thanks
Don't know the answer to your question, Dianne---welcome, BTW---but an eaglet reaches full size at 12 weeks, so at 5 we can assume that he is probably about 8" "tall"---Paula, Jo...anyone else know?
Eaglet Growth - The young birds grow rapidly, they add one pound to their body weight every four or five days. At about two weeks, it is possible for them to hold their head up for feeding.
By three weeks they are 1 foot high and their feet and beaks are very nearly adult size.
Between four and five weeks, the birds are able to stand, at which time they can began tearing up their own food.
At six weeks, the eaglets are very nearly as large as their parents.
At eight weeks, the appetites of the young birds are at their greatest. While parents hunt almost continuous to feed them, back at the nest the eaglets are beginning to stretch their wings in response to gusts of wind and may even be lifted off their feet for short periods.
Have to leave!! Jack wants to do our walking early this morning, Well, it is early to me! LOL I like to read the paper and cam watch early while I have my coffee. He should drink coffee!!!
I know you cannot open up Loch Garten....very funny routines there, Odin showed up with fish, EJ was interested, then he took off WITH the fish, and has done that once or twice...as though he wants EJ to get up so HE can see HIS Egg too! I really must have just missed seeing the laying this morning...picked the wrong time to do computer work :(
The egg when I did see it looked pale blue with speckles, but it was a very quick glance. I can't keep the site open for too long either.
Whoops! Just saw your comment, Deb. We were having grass fires last week. We had two days where the wind was bringing smoke to our area. Not nice to have gray skies and to breathe smoke.
Good Morning All! Sooooooo great to see sooooooooo many interested newcomers and great to answer your questions as we try to remember everything over the past 3 seasons!
I have a late start today .. another appointment this afternoon! Feeling super as I feel that sunshine beaming down. I bet Mits is enjoying herself! I better get the nest weather for the day!
It's great that Hidey is on schedule Deb said 4-5 weeks they would be standing & just yesterday Hidey was doing a lot of that! Now we'll wait and see if Hidey 'tears his own food'. Deb has given a link to a great informative site for eagles.
LOVE the new avatars I am seeing! You know I'll stick with the Sycamore Nest Tree!
Nest Weather: Rest of Today-ThursdaySunny. Highs in the lower 60s. Northeast winds around 5 mph. TonightClear. Patchy frost after midnight. Lows in the mid 30s. Mema Jo, Today is the 2nd anniversary of the shooting at VT. We are Mountaineers to the bone but have alot of family that goes to VT and work there as well. So, on this day, we are all Hokies!!
The panda update on the Atlanta site said that Luney is over 5 feet long. I just don't believe that. He does not look anywhere near 5 feet long. What do ya'll think?
They pant almost like dogs in the heat! I know, it used to make me a nervous wreck too, but it gets easier after you watch em awhile and learn what is "normal" for them.
question... is there a way to refresh the posts here... i have been going out and coming back in to see the new posts... is there a trick to it so i don't have to do this?
Thought I had captured a great shot of Hidey showing off his tonsils...LOL!...but it wouldn't save on two tries....drat! It was so cute. He's really motivating around the nest....the little explorer.
Sure, you can keep it in a seperate tab, and then just go back and forth between pagesof whatever you are doing. Bookmark or save to favorites the main page...then when you are ready to get on, right click on it in your list and select Open in New Tab.
Both Ospreys on the nest at BWO now. Wonder when Lisa will bring the cam delay down to 30 secs. again.
Looks like they are getting close to starting their clutch now. I saw the female lying down and forming an egg bowl in one of the flattened root balls a few minutes ago.
I am not like my fancy friends, can't do the link but if you copy and paste this into the address line it will get you there just the same. Then from here you can go to the Osprey cam (BWO). This is the eagle cam (BWE). I didn't know it was two separate places until about 3 months ago!!
I will check back in after while with you beautiful people. Time for shower and fixing supper. I am off of work for the day. This is when those 5:00 and 5:30 mornings are worth it!
Hi, Jim....about time those guys got down to business! Jamie, you would not believe the amount of computer stuff we have all learned on here from some of the pros!!! Don't ever hesitate to ask for explanations! If you want to receive the captures we grab and send out, we will need your email address....don't post it on here!! You can either have it on your profile page or put it in an email on the momsters yahoo site. We also have some neat keyboard characters if you want them! Things like faces, musical notes, degree symbols, etc.!
Wow, Sissy...early bird get the worm...AND gets to enjoy a beautiful afternoon!!! Did you say that Tom is back on day shift? Whoa, hi Mattie!!!! I forgot you all are on spring break!!! How is everything? How are your grades? Are you getting ready for 6th grade in the fall? My granddaughter can't wait to move uo to Jr. Hi. Hoping that the next time you all come, she can, too, and hang out with you!
Yeah, Lynn, Tom went back to dayshift and only had to threaten to quit to get it!!! He gets home around 3:30 and I get off around 1:30 or so, so I have time to pick the house up a bit, take a shower, and cook supper before he gets home. It is absolutely wonderful, just love it!!

Hidey needs to get his head back into the nest and STEP AWAY FROM THE SIDE!!!! I can't even imagine what it would have been like if there were three like him.
I know you are, Mattie! You are quite mature and I think it would be good for my Jenn to spend time with you!! Don't get into that boyfriend stuff seriously....too young for that!!!! Plenty of time when you get to be about 30...LOL!!!!!
Just saying Hi after a wildflower forgaing trip at Swinging Bridge - I didn't pick any! but saw tons of bluebells, spring beauty, Trout Lily, cutleat toothwort, and I found Colstfoot! Saw two soaring Red-Shouldered Hawks, and had a pair male and female red-bellied woodpeckers traveling with me through the woods. Also, May Apple is popping up all over! Also saw grape hyacinths, took a bunch of photos, will check them out AFTER A PANDA NAP.
Afternoon everyone. I don't like to iron Sharon. Just got off the phone with Helen. Nice day in AZ. Windy yesterday.Red I know the feeling. ltl...those white feathers on Hidey's head will be leaving soon, they are just downy feathers. Their heads and tail don't start turning white until about 3 years old....full change completed when they are five.
Headed out for a little while. Thanks for the Stork Link and the updates that it is active...gives me something more to watch while (trying) to get ready for work in the mornings, and the Wood Ducks, and the Loon reports, and and and and.. Hmmmm...weather gal on TV just said that there WERE reports of icy roads here earlier. Glad I didn't have to go out!
Norma, my oldest Grandson once played baseball with John Grisham's son. My daughter had been a fan of his BEFORE the ballgame, so she was thrilled to meet him! Their's was the out-of-town team, in the playoffs.
Morning, all.
SOOOOO nice to see the sunshine! Bet Hidey is glad to be out from underneath Belle!
Good morning, looks like you are in for a good day there, we have clouds and sprinkles.

CT - 4 eggs! Thanks for the update, Dana!
EJ at Loch Garten Osprey nest laid her 1st egg of the season today April 16th. Maybe in Scotland that was yesterday??
Dana:
I was watching EJ squirming all around and moving things around in the nest Just right - then Odin came in and they mated twice - so I didn't miss seeing it by much! I think they are 5 hours ahead of us.

Loch of the Lowe's Osprey Nest, Scotland
Good morning! Good to see Hidey moving around. When I first got on the was asleep and hiding. He blended into the nest quite well.
Hear the children! They are happy it is not raining.
Where are our eagle experts to tell Dianne the approx size of Hidey?
Don't know the answer to your question, Dianne---welcome, BTW---but an eaglet reaches full size at 12 weeks, so at 5 we can assume that he is probably about 8" "tall"---Paula, Jo...anyone else know?
Whoops! OK is down. They hope to have it repaired soon. Appreciate the fact that they post that it is their problem and not my computer.

Triplets are asleep at NBG. I think they have been rocked to sleep. Is it the tree the cam is in or the tree with the nest that sways so much?
I got that from the American Bald Eagle page:
Bald Eagle info
Thanks Deb! Knew you or Paula could come up with the Eagle facts for Dianne. How's the weather up there?
It is presently 62 here, headed to the 70's, or so they say. We expect storms tonight, tomorrow, and into Saturday. Can always use the rain!
Thanks, Deb! You're the "mon"!!
It is cloudy and sprinkling. We need the rain bad, grass fires have been a danger the last few days. I think the temp is around 45, not bad.
Have to leave!! Jack wants to do our walking early this morning, Well, it is early to me! LOL I like to read the paper and cam watch early while I have my coffee. He should drink coffee!!!
Have a great day! Enjoy life!

Yes, Lib must have brought that fish...He just took off!
Time for more breakfast for Hidey!
Love the munch munch sound!
Good morning everyone.
Thanks Deb for that info. I was just thinking of asking when do they start to fly. Now I know!
Thank goodness we have time before that happens, jparent. Many hours of amusement ahead!!!! Like any kid, they can be so funny as they learn!
I have a question. Does anybody on here watch storks anymore? Haven't heard anybody mention them in a long. Was just thinking about poor little Hugo!
I was just looking at the Storchennest.de site and the cam is on but the nest is empty.
Good Morning All! Sooooooo great to see sooooooooo many interested newcomers and great to answer your questions as we try to remember everything over the past 3 seasons!

Stork nestI haven't watched any yet this year, so don't know what is going on. I'll check Maine.
Wow, Maine says that nest has 5 eggs!
Hidey, get back away from the edge!
Glare is really bad...what is in the middle of the nest? Is it just a stick or is it a snake or an eel????
Hidey is laying by the launch pad! I love it!
Just a stick...and there is a fish by his foot
5 eggs is a lot for any one stork!! I hope they have some good hatchings!
Waiting to see the RTH chicks - hoping there are 3 little white fuzzies!

Nope, Lib baled!

Hiedy has decided he'd better get up to eat!
Looks like Lib just took off...you could see his shadow going from R to L over the back part of the nest...
Mema Jo,
Today is the 2nd anniversary of the shooting at VT. We are Mountaineers to the bone but have alot of family that goes to VT and work there as well. So, on this day, we are all Hokies!!
Wow, Belle just took off with the fish in her talons...
Oh My, think she landed on the cam branch? Whole thing just shook...Hidey was watching something before that...probably her!
Belle just had her lovely close up for the cam...sending out capture.
The panda update on the Atlanta site said that Luney is over 5 feet long. I just don't believe that. He does not look anywhere near 5 feet long. What do ya'll think?
Thanks Sissy for that info.
I am out of here and Will Return Later
Hidey is eating some fish all on his own!!
ROFLMBOI just checked out Hidey before leaving..

hidey is making me nervous so close to the edge there
Check out this stork nest....they appear to be courting.

I think Hidey is okay...probably quite warm in the sunshine...was just eating a little while ago and was very alert.
hedgie, does hidey go that close to the edge? looks like her head is hanging over the side?
They pant almost like dogs in the heat! I know, it used to make me a nervous wreck too, but it gets easier after you watch em awhile and learn what is "normal" for them.
Aw--- i LOVE this angle on the little one.
They pant to cool off...eaglet is fine!

question... is there a way to refresh the posts here... i have been going out and coming back in to see the new posts... is there a trick to it so i don't have to do this?
That is one funny looking bird when he does that!
Poop shoot, and Hidey is back in the middle of the nest...looking around.
oh thank goodness hidey is away from the edge... i almost needed a valium!!!!

Jim, it was Dana who saw Lib knock Belle out of the nest.....maybe Sat.?? Email her...maybe she is checking mail more frequently than she is blogging.
I was wondering why the mother Hummingbird was away from her eggs so long...wondering, wondering.....
Finally I read a bunch of stuff above the picture and I learned that the eggs were 'stolen by another bird' on April 14th.
I wonder if the Hummingbird will abandon this nest altogether now.

Might have been a gull...are the feathers white? (I'm not watching it at the moment?)
Hey Jo, Lolly is still here....did you see her? She's leaving Saturday!
Paula - yep, they are white...but there are an awful lot of them!! Everything covered in feathers!

Hidey is performing his own housekeeping!
Say, you can really see the white coming in on Hidey's head.
Give me more, Mom...I'm just a growing eaglet!
She just can't fill this kid up!
Okay, Belle, I'll clean house while U feed!
that's just what i was thinking!
uh-oh...
we had a little camera collision, looks like.
Oh, no...cam hit...pic is a mess! Belle did it!
Can't watch that...ooh...hard on the eyes.
phew. picture regaining resolution.
Whew...okay now...I was afrqaid we were going to lose it completely.
ltl...those white feathers on Hidey's head will be leaving soon, they are just downy feathers. Their heads and tail don't start turning white until about 3 years old....full change completed when they are five.
Glad Belle didn't mess up the cam, guess you were holding your breath
And the fish is gone
Dana, that's on of the cams I did a blue link for this morning for Sharon! I love it!
Eating time at BWE
Belle's feathers look great today!
OOppps Paula hadn't read back. Was in emails. Then sister came to use computer. Then I went back into emails. Sorry for duplicating.
Trying to figure when Mema's Wood Duck will jump all that way to the ground.
Paula, for sure.....it was a bad hit! I was holding my breath!
No problem, Dana...just funny that we both were watching it today!

Truly a mess at Sidney....looks like a dove! Maybe they wanted to make a pillow!
Sharon, tell Andrew to sing loud for us!! They should make a tape!!
Cam on RTH is zooming all around
Great wide view of the fire escape where the nest is located.....
With the snow in the nest at Sidney it makes all look white. lol
The one hawk chick is chewing on a little branch sticking in the way. It does peck the other one.
Dinner is almost ready

Paula - Sydney eagle really vocal! Glad you saw all the feathers. Don't think it's a gull.
One "mean" little kid in the Sydney nest....picking on the other two.
I wonder if we were standing on the road at NCTC, if we could see Hidey at that side of the nest.
That side is probably built up too high still.
Headed out for a little while.
Thanks for the Stork Link and the updates that it is active...gives me something more to watch while (trying) to get ready for work in the mornings, and the Wood Ducks, and the Loon reports, and and and and..
