The live feed is back on and it is a clear picture.

Cheers for SHIRLEY for hooking up the printer...way to go...how is your day going and are you paying enough attention to food and drink. Sometimes being by myself I forget that it is lunch time and then wonder why I am getting fatigued...LOL

MARGIE thanks for the update on Mason. Is JO coming home Monday? Did she say?

paula eagleholic said...

Hoda, I'm at home this weekend...worked till 5, then had to do a little Wally world and other shopping.

Going to enjoy my quesadillas and watch the nest.

Hoda said...

The camera shakes...I wished we had sound.

Hoda said...

Enjoy the Quesadillas PAULA...How is Nick doing with the heat?

paula eagleholic said...

Hoda, Nick is doing good with the heat...he's inside with the AC on during the day...and in the evening, I wait till dark or almost dark to walk him or throw his toy in the back yard.

Heading out to try and do some snipping on my perennials...forgot my snips at the beach, had to buy another pair.

paula eagleholic said...

Don't think I'll miss an evening visit...

hedgie said...

Margy, hope your night is quiet!

Lolly, don't wear yourselves out with all the vooking!

Hoda, great when you know what needs correction as soon as you see it on video. I'm sure you all appreciated that constructive way of teaching!

Oh, I can't move the shelves! Can't even move the books----way too many and no place to put them...just thought I would try to pull them forward on the shelves. Trying to get up the energy to do it....I am really tired.

hedgie said...

Paula, bet your quesadilla's were yummy! I haven't fied any of those in a lomg time.

NatureNut said...

Good Evening!!
We had 30% chance of rain, but NO. Got dark & windy, but that's all. Went out and we hear a really LOUD DJ, booming music West of here. Happens a lot, but tonight much louder. Isn't there a legal decibel level!(I'm not allowed to call authorities!)

Had planned a kind of nice din din, but too hot for oven, so it was BLTs!
I actually saw 3 butterflies today! Haven't seen much of anything for couple months. Were a lot in spring, but now all my good B'fly flowers are blooming and not many takers.
Think I'll look for something in freezer!

hedgie said...

Or a LONG time, either!! LOL!

Jo said either Mon or Tues---encouraged her to stay longer if nothing else was on her schedule! Too hot today for the beach---she stayed in!

hedgie said...

Judy, do you want rain or not?? If you do, sorry it missed you! But glad that the STORM didn't happen!

NatureNut said...

Ohy, Lynn! Don't beat yourself up w/moving stuff! I hope your disruption is over soon. ☺

hedgie said...

Loretta-----gee, I remember those "not allowed" days! Usually decibel laws, if they exist, are 80.

stronghunter said...

Lolly and Judie, you have e-mail.

stronghunter said...

Now that the sun is down, I think I will walk the dogs. Maybe the street has cooled enough. I will check first.

JudyEddy said...

the colors fade away with the setting sun and another day has come and gone with out our feather friends I was so hoping they would show up tonight

JudyEddy said...

our temps right now are nice with all the rain that was around it cooled it right off and with the sun setting it didn't get a chance to heat up again This is nice

'Night Judy

Loretta:
if people call here about noise,
and they don't want anyone to know it is "them" that called
I sometimes ask...would anyone in the neighborhood call that in?
We do not give names over the radio...
sorry about the noise: I understand the aggravation with that !!!!

magpie said...

then if anyone in the neighborhood can complain about it...
everyone can be anonymous !

we have noise decibel limits here, and this is the time of the year this kind of stuff happens

paula eagleholic said...

It is still pretty brutal here...91° ... and not a drop of rain today.

paula eagleholic said...

French bread pizza and BLT's sound good too...I am waiting for my tomatoes to fully ripen so I can fix a BLT.

stronghunter said...

It was actually decent outdoors. Walked both dogs, but now I am being summoned by the upstairs cat. He needs to be fed and loved. He was very unhappy last night because Kathryn was not home.

paula eagleholic said...

Going to try and do some more snipping in the morning when it might be a little cooler. Have a couple of more plants to water, but I think Nick needed a cooling off break!

paula eagleholic said...

Shirley, I forgot you had 2 cats in the house now. Does the upstairs cat always stay upstairs?

stronghunter said...

Down to 82 degrees here, says it feels like 92, but that actually feels good. A little breeze is blowing.

stronghunter said...

The upstairs cat stays upstairs, and George stays downstairs. One night recently, I found George sitting at the top of the stairs, so I brought him into my room for the night, but we can't let the two cats be together.

When they were together at Kathryn's house, Lucky got a bad injury somehow. We do not know if George did it, but Kathryn brought George here. They clearly do not like one another (two male cats). They have both been neutered, but that does not seem to make any difference.

stronghunter said...

We have a window screen across the top of the stairs.

Lori O. said...

Hello Eagle Family!

SHIRLEY you are a brave woman
to even force yourself
to go outside and take the dogs for a walk - it's still so gross and
muggy hot.
Yes, dry heat is much better! :) This former California girl would take "dry heat" anyday over this.

LORETTA, there IS a legal decibel limit and the police will come out and measure how loud it is...
True, but this is
MARGY's area. Call 'em!

Sorry there was no visit
to the nest tonight. I would love to see them, too, and I am really hoping they appear tomorrow morning for all the EARLY BIRDS! I've missed it so much.

HODA woman! Hello!
I haven't gone back to read the rest of last thread but am anxious to see what you said about yoga!

PAULA, you're home! Bet you
wish you were at the cooler beach. Sorry you had to work. xxoo

Guess what? MOM is home too! Finally, this afternoon, and tonight I am finally home, too!!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to pop in
& tell you the good news since you were the backbone of my existence for the past week--you are all so dearly loved! I would not have survived without ALL OF YOU! That is each and every one of YOU who had so many kind words and prayers to offer.
Your prayers and friendship,
family-ship ♥ carried my entire family through a harrowing week.

God Bless this wonderful nest and
every single one of you Momsters who make it such a wonderful place to be.

paula eagleholic said...

Poor Diane, Lacee (her dog) passed away today :(

paula eagleholic said...

Lori, glad to hear you are home! Does your Mom have an aide coming in to help her? Has her nausea gone away?

Hoda said...

Welcome home LORI and MOM. Paula's question is a good one, does Nancy have an aide coming in to help her?

Hoda said...

LOLLY what news of your brother in law?

hedgie said...

I was just rewatching Atlantis landing....I apparently missed some scrolling info at bottom of screen. DirecTV annouced that the NASA channel will move to an HD channel. Darn! I don't have HD programming. TV is capable, but don't want the added expense of an HD receiver. Guess I will have to watch any future NASA activity online the same as Margy!

Hoda said...

PAULA, Sorry about Diane's dog...the day after her birthday...was it the heat? I read on CBS that there are over twenty people who died because of the heat...oh my!!!

stronghunter said...

Sorry to learn that Diane has lost her dog.

paula eagleholic said...

No, Diane's dog had surgery to remove a tumor...she came home on Thursday, but took a turn for the worse today...and today is Diane's birthday.

stronghunter said...

Need to go upstairs and take care of Lucky. Very sleepy, too.

hedgie said...

Wow---DanaWV is finally getting her trip pics on FB! Raschida is a real beauty!! Don't know why Dana hasn't shown her off before now!!!! How old is she, Dana?

NatureNut said...

We've been watching Nationwide car race (of course!) Cousin Carl won & I think he's battling the flu!

Great to see Lori has checked in and everyone is home! Continued prayers for recovery.

Sorry for Dianne's loss. :>(

Lolly said...

Meatballs are made and in the freezer, sauce is vooking. ☺ So, there will not be a whole lot to do for the meal on Tuesday. Feeding Larry and Sandy, too. Sandy is preparing a meal for all of us...chicken enchiladas. Yum! The rest of the week menu...hamburgers, steaks, and eat out...seafood!! Sounds like a plan to me!

Have not talked with Dan and Sharon today. Plan to call them tomorrow. Dan is doing pretty good. Eating only pureed food and apparently enjoying it. Says it tastes pretty good. I guess if you do not eat for 8 days, pureed food tastes good. LOL He goes to 2 doctors this next week.

hedgie said...

Lori, how marvelous that your Mom is home!!! WhooHoo!!! And are you actually home in Frederick???
Are there arrangements for some in-home nursing care of any kind for your Mom?
I'm sure your menagerie has missed you a lot.....but know that Kate has done a fine job of caring for them. How are the black vultures?

hedgie said...

Paula....Diane Flanagan? On her birthday? How awful. Prayers and hugs, Diane. We all know how you are feeling. :(

Lolly said...

Lori...yea! So happy your mom is doing so well. Is your dad up to caring for her at home?

Judie said...

It is that time again. Sandperson is lose by. I can feel it.

I feel badly that I forgot today to wish Diane a happy birthday but now find I am saddened about the death of her dog.

Shirley, just don't know how you are managing with all the critter personalities and needs. And you think I have an abundance of patience.

Lori, so happy your Mom is home and that you are in your home. I hope Nancy will have some in-home follow up. Continued prayers for smooth transition and recovery.

Congratulations to Carl.

Lynn, you do what you can and then step back. Stress won't make it better.

Wishing Jo a good night's sleep.

Okay, the night light is on for anyone who may need to arise in the dark or who may be coming in late from the West Coast. Restful sleep to all.

hedgie said...

Well, looks like I can't do much, Judie. Cinder blocks are not flush against the wall but the shelves are on the big wall. So can't get a sheet slid down there...will hope and pray that any leaks will be high--will put the sheet on the top shelf and maybe it will catch it to keep it from running back behind. Will have to do it in the morning....just too tired. Will also remove the few antique books that are there.

hedgie said...

Goodnight, Judie!! Sleep well.

If anyone is a Journey fan, they are going to be on CBS Sunday Morning! Recorded Letterman last night, and watched it a little while ago---Bon Jovi was on!
Love that these older groups are still going strong!!! Their "rock" was so palatable compared to what has been out there the last 10-15 yrs.

hedgie said...

Just remembered reading Margy's post about the tar bubbles----it was awful when I was coming home Thurs. The noise of it hitting the undercarriage of the truck made me fear the worst mess.....thank goodness for running boards! Not much on the quarterpanels. I love the smell, tho'!

hedgie said...

Loretta, glad that Carl won if Jr. couldn't! Just assuming he ran---I never even looked at the line-up.

hedgie said...

Calling it a day. Hope you all sleep cooly. Prayers for each and every one. See you tomorrow.

NatureNut said...

Lynn, I don't know if Jr. was in it.
Good luck on your walls! Maybe you can make those guys go easy near the top! Are they using cold water??? You could invite everyone for a shower!! LOL
I swear if it did rain tonight, I would have been outside soaking it up!
BTW, couldn't get a pic of new old car, as Fubby buried it in the "dog house" part of garage! That is about a 1/2 wall high extension on the back wall so a car nose can fit there.(It's a small sports car) Then he can get 3cars lined up on that side! Ain't retirement wonderful???

I may retire to rec rm. Almost 10° cooler down there. Lounge chair in living room just dosen't get it.
For all those hitting the hay,

Night all! Sweet dreams!

What a HOT day this has been!!
Dustin loves eating on the deck, so we planned a nice dinner/supper...steak, hamburgers, grilled potatoes, squash and onions, green salad and pasta salad along with fresh sliced peaches for dessert (we don't usually cook that much, but Dustin has an enormous appetite!) Well, wouldn't you know it, it was just
too darn hot to sit outside, so we still owe Dustin an outdoor meal:) He ate all of the above...then had seconds on the grilled veggies, wanted another green salad, but we had no more, and seconds on the peaches. Lord have mercy on his mother. She must cook herself to death and I would hate to see her grocery bill! He does eat like that all the time, but stays thin...his dad is thin, too.

ANDREA,I have used my eagle can as a persuader, but don't think I could eradicate a groundhog with it. And that reminds me, Capt. Gene was eating his supper this evening, when Mr. Groundhog appeared just outside our patio window...he woun't make an appearance again~

Hi, Everyone,
Getting here too late to visit again!
Doggone it! Have been pretty busy today. Got some work done for the doctor's office. Need to finish it up and e-mail it back to them tomorrow. VERY thankful I can read the doctor's handwriting!

Lynn, I hope the guys will be really careful because of your books! Good idea to move the antique ones. Hope Liesl is holding up OK with all the goings on.

I'm SO sorry to hear that Diane's dog has passed away on her birthday! That is heartbreaking news! We all have been there, but it certainly never gets any easier. Prayers for you, Diane, and (((HUGS)))!!!

Lori, that's fantastic news that your Mom is home now, and so are you! I do hope your Mom will have at-home nursing care for a while. Hope you can get some concentrated rest tomorrow before you return to work!

Gee, it was not quite as hot here today, and I'm hoping that this cooler weather will find its way east to all of you!

Well, I need to get some rest myself. My neck feels a little better, and I want to keep it that way! I certainly hope that Jack is doing better too. Need to try to read back farther and catch up.
Prayers are said for everyone, and every creature. Making sure the porch light is on. Enabling both security systems. Wishing for sweet dreams about cool weather for everyone. God bless, and goodnight! Love all of you!

PAULA and HODA, Mom does have a aid coming in twice a week I believe for two weeks. My neice is staying with my parents to help - she's 12 but is very mature and always has an eye out for her Grandma, my Dad is there, and thank God for my SIL Theresa who lives across a few fields from my parents and is there everyday. She's in excellent hands or I couldn't have come home. So HAPPY to be home.

stronghunter said...

Good morning,

Glad to see that Lori is safely home. And that her mother is at home as well.

Too bad there wasn't an eagle visit this morning . . . well, maybe tonight.

I can smell all of those good foods that Lolly is vooking. I will be knocking on your door early tomorrow morning. I hope you have room for one more on your journey.

Looking forward to seeing an "after" picture on Lynn's blog. This has been a real project. Hope they don't charge extra for all of the indoor cleaning.

Will have to go back and see if I can find Judy's avatar site. Only thing is, I am afraid I will never get anything done if I get into that. Maybe I should wait until I get some cleaning done around here.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend at home, Paula. How nice to have a choice between staying home or going to your own beach house.

I do hope the loud booms ceased at a reasonable time, Loretta.

Oh, Hoda, I have been thinking that many of us would love to have some of your cool Canadian weather. Maybe you can send some of it southeastward.

DanaWV, I enjoyed your beautiful pictures on FB. My brother lives in Fort Collins. He gets to enjoy those beauteous sights every day.

Margy, you have family in Fort Collins?

Lori O. said...

Good Morning Shirley! Glad to be home, let me make that estatic to be home! Thank you.

stronghunter said...

Wanda, I keep thinking how I would like to have a deck to have my dinners on. Hmmm, I already have the canopy. We get the hot afternoon sun beating down back there, but it would be nice in the fall. The fencing guy I talked to does do decks.

stronghunter said...

Judie, I keep thinking of you and all of the work you are doing to get ready for the new school year. I might want to take on a part-time at some point, but now yet. Maybe eventually . . .

Did you find the e-mail I sent you?

Costume Lady said...

GOOD MORNING...

Hello Shirley and L♥ri:)
Shirley, I believe Margy has a brother in Ft. Collins who studies the life and habits of prairie dogs. There must be a gazillion of them there!

L♥ori, so good to see you at your home and your momma at hers. Truly blessings from above!

Hi there Wanda, and add to that, Shirley, T-Bird...

Prairie Dog John sets up at Walden Colorado, think he is almost finished for the season...not sure how close that is to Ft Collins

sooooo Dustin has a bottomless tummy eh ??? Bet he just loves being in West Virginia for the week...

magpie said...

I am sorry I missed Hoda, to thank her for posting the article about the Search and Rescue volunteer...
Thanks Hoda !
and Judy, well she is already at work :(

I was going great guns til midnight, then the last 7 hours were difficult, not used to night shift hours

magpie said...

too funny at BWO, sometimes there is just one "baby" there with the parent, and sometimes soon after, the other two "babies" return, in and out and in and out

stronghunter said...

I know I would have trouble adjusting to those hours, too, Margy.

Costume Lady said...

Very handsome man, L♥ri, must be your dad?

Shirley, we have had our deck for 40 years (flooring replaced once), and love it more every year! We eat out as often as the weather will allow. We do have a semi-permanent shelter with a picnic table and our grill under it. Gene is able to grill in the rain and snow without getting the elements on him:) It would be a great investment for you and your family.

magpie said...

Prairie Dog John is with University of Maryland, Frostburg campus
But he had some time before all that, at Princeton University !

stronghunter said...

We had pouring rain here this morning, but it did not last very long. I was thinking of what happened in Chicago. It was raining that hard. Fortunately, it did not last too long. We need rain, but golly gee, I would need a boat.

magpie said...

It's only for this week-end, Shirley, filling in for my co-worker friend whose husband fell and broke his back...he was trimming tree limbs
He is home after fusion surgery Friday, and she is working hard to help him get comfortable and rested

After Tuesday morning, I have a glorious bunch of days off !!

stronghunter said...

You can keep the grill under the canopy, Wanda? I was wondering about that. We did have a grill on a screen porch in a couple of previous houses. My canopy is plenty big. I was thinking that it would be nice to have the extra space with the expanded family and critters.

Costume Lady said...

Hi there, MARGY! Guess you will 'lay me down to sleep', soon?
Rough night or slow night for last 7 hours of your shift?

stronghunter said...

You are so kind to help your friend, Margy.

magpie said...

sounds great Wanda...the deck and the grill and all that...hope you saw, that my dinner last night was venison from "Sgt Dan" - you know, one of Gene's hunting buddies ☺

I'm not long for the world this morning, going to sleep as long as I can before going back in at 9 pm tonight...

Sure hope everyone has a great day...and that Wellness, Swells !!

I'm just about headed for the pillows now...

God Bless Us, Every One

I am sure you will enjoy your days off, Margy.

stronghunter said...

Rest well, Margy. Wonder if our brothers know each other? My brother is Jim Hunter. His wife, Shirley, also does research.

stronghunter said...

I think it was Judy, Margy.

Costume Lady said...

Yes, Shirley, grill is sitting at the edge of the canopy.
You would love gardening on a deck...flowers, tomatoes and little water garden...very interesting for me:)

magpie said...

Nothing serious, Wanda...fairly busy...
but not as bad as it could have been for a Saturday night

Okay, yes, now I lay me down to sleep....

stronghunter said...

Maybe early in the past week, Margy. I do not remember, either.

stronghunter said...

How big is your deck, Wanda?

stronghunter said...

We had a very nice screened porch at a previous house, but would have preferred it off the kitchen, not the living room. I had the children's sand box there. Vacuumed lots of sand out of the living room carpet.

Costume Lady said...

There is upkeep to a deck...the floor needs to be re-stained every few years and our deck has wrought iron railing which rusts and needs re-painting every 5 years. Needs all that re-doing stuff right now...about 2 years past due:(

Costume Lady said...

Not sure of deck size, Shirley. Something like 24ft X 20ft. It has seen a lot of parties for two teen-aged girls and more than a few for the owners:)

stronghunter said...

My front porch floor requires that kind of maintenance, as does the tiny back porch I have now. I paid a bit extra for the back porch soon after I moved into the house. The back porch rail is in pretty bad shape and needs attention.

stronghunter said...

Sounds like it is a pretty good size, Wanda.

Lori O. said...

I've been working on a little project I got home. Actually I started thinking about it last week when we began all the talk of a respectful, honorable name for Truder and decided it should be something patriotic.

My avatar today is Sgt. Bobby E. Beasley, 36, who is from Inwood, which is in Berkeley County, WV. Geographically, Beasley is the closest fallen service member to our eagle nest who served in the current wars. There's no fallen troops from Jefferson County, which includes Shepherdstown.

Here is a little background info on Bobby Beasley that I found in the Washington Post and around the internet.

Beasley enlisted in 1980.
He died at age 36 on August 7, 2004 while on patrol in support of voter registration for upcoming elections.
He was driving through a very remote area of Afghanistan and his Army vehicle ran over an IED, basically, a land mine, killing him and his partner.

Beasley was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hike, fly fish, camp.

He was an amateur photographer known to leap from his easy chair to photograph wildlife that wandered through their yard.

If you like the idea we can honor (or honour for HODA) our country by calling Truder - Bobby or Beasley, or Sgt. Bobby Beasley.

And, as a bonus, either name sounds nice with Belle because of the illiteration. "Belle and Sargeant Beasley." :)

Most importantly, one person who died for our country will be remembered and honored in a wonderful way. I think as someone who loved wildlife that Sgt. Bobby E. Beasley would be proud.

Costume Lady said...

You will laugh at the location of our deck...off of our bedroom:) It started out to be a small deck (as needed for our sliding glass doors). But, Gene said, "While we are at it, let's make it larger, so, in order to get to our deck, you have to pass through our bedroom:( You can get there from outside. Can't remember where our guests entered.

Costume Lady said...

Oh my, it has been so special for me to chat this morning with your ladies, but must get ready for church...takes me longer every year. Have to get Dustin up and at-em too:)

HAVE A BLESSED SUNDAY♥

Costume Lady said...

Wow...sorry I mistook Sgt. Beasley for your dad, L♥ri, he does look much older than 36...guess WAR can do that to you:(
Guess we will have a contest of sorts in a few months to submit names for TRUDER. We've had 4 submissions, so far.

Lori O. said...

SHIRLEY, now you have the explanation of today's avatar. Glad you noticed.
You walked your dogs last night, Shirley - I think I'm going to take mine for a little car ride to Sheetz in a few. Lazy Lori!

Hi MARGY. So glad at least you get to work in AC! But, sorry you have to put in so many hours...and prayers for your co-worker's husband's back.

PS: Wanda, my deck is overdue a few years too!

Morning, all!

blogging from the deck with my coffee. Decided to sleep in...woke up earlier and heard the temp and decided to go back to sleep!

stronghunter said...

Hi, Paula.

I had to get up this morning because of much meowing. Then I heard pouring rain.

Just thinking that I would really like to have a deck to have coffee on.

paula eagleholic said...

So, I have seen my hummer 3 times already!

Lori, glad your Mom has plenty of help, that must be a big relief.

Lolly, have fun making cookies!

Shirley, I love my deck! It gets a lot of sun too, I just have a table with a big umbrella.

I had to go buy a slipcover for my sofa yesterday....Nick has done a number on the sofa arms. Nugz had made a small tear with his nails from playing with the tennis ball on there, and on some cushions, which I could flip over. Well Nick found that small tear and made it a huge one. Then he attacked the other arm. Hopefully the slipcover will solve that problem. It's the only thing he's really chewed in the house, except for one small electric cord, which was not plugged in.

paula eagleholic said...

We have a small breeze this morning, which is better than nothing!

Margy, hope you can get some sleep today!

stronghunter said...

Sassafras, our dear basset from the past, tore a hole large enough for a full-grown basset hound in the sofa. That was quite a shock.

paula eagleholic said...

Shirely, I like sitting out here on the deck with my coffee and watching the birds at the feeders. Very relaxing.

paula eagleholic said...

I'll bet it was, Shirley. I taped all the stuffing back in the arms before I put the slipcover back on! It was funny, when I flipped the cushions, I didn't realize how faded the cushions were compared to other parts of the sofa. At least the sofa is all one color now!

When Nick is over the chewing stage, maybe I'll replace it then...but really it's fine with the slipcover on it

A Dove is drinking the fresh water out of the bird bath.

hedgie said...

Hoda, very wonderful tribute to Ms. Sweatman. Sad story.

Lori, it is so great that there are so many willing hands to help care for your Mom. You said "a few fields over"---do your folks have a farm?

Shirley, remember Ctrl F to make it easier to find JudyE's avatar info!

stronghunter said...

I have a pretty bird bath and a pretty bird feeder that I will put out when I get the fence. Right now, they would be endangered by the dog leads.

DanaMo said...

Wow being in CA makes me so late, but at least I am sleeping!

Good morning all my eagle friends!

stronghunter said...

Thanks, Lynn, I have been trying to remember how to do that.

Lolly said...

Just a quick good morning! Almost time to get ready for church. Have read the paper and enjoying my coffee.

Lori, thanks for sharing about the folks caring for your mom. Was wondering how you could leave so soon. ☺ Yea, for family!!!

Love the talk about decks. Wish I had a deck, but love my covered patio. Land slants towards the house, therefore...no deck. I have wanted a deck out away from the house, but have not be able to convince Jack of that. LOL

paula eagleholic said...

Glad you finally slept, Dana!

Hope you feel better Lynn. (((Hugs)))

Going to go tackle the yardwork while it's still cloudy and the breeze is blowing....bbl

hedgie said...

Ha,ha, Shirley! They aren't cleaning up the inside mess---I should charge them maybe???!!!! It's not their fault....it's the builder's fault!!! Lo those 26 yrs. ago.

stronghunter said...

You have a beautiful patio, Lolly. I had thought about a patio, but would still need steps down from the house, so a deck is probably more practical.

Lori O. said...

Just want to warn everyone to be careful of all the bees/wasps/yellow jackets, etc out there this year. With the dry ground they're going nuts looking for water there's a bunch.

I was just out watering and got stung by at least 8 that I can feel. YES I ripped my clothes off and ran for the house. One of them, Yellow Jackets I think was still in my shorts. They hurt more now than when they stung me just ten min. ago. Got both legs, hip, back ribs.

Not as bad as the neighbor up the hill who got stepped on a nest and got 10 bites 2 weeks ago.

stronghunter said...

I was just referring to all of the water indoors, Lynn. Too bad they aren't going to clean that up for you. Your cabin was built 26 years ago?

Lolly said...

Big article in the paper today about the aquifers drying up. People with wells are going dry! They are having to dig their wells deeper. We considered putting in a well for the yard a few years back but it was so expensive and not a sure thing that it could support a sprinkler system. People are now wishing for a hurricane to bring rain. We have jokingly said that ourselves. Maybe a tropical depression...but not while we are at the beach!

hedgie said...

Looks like Walden, CO is about equidistance from Fort Collins and Steamboat Springs, Margy.....not TOO far from either.

stronghunter said...

Oh my gosh, Lori, that is awful. Yellow jackets are nasty. Watched one sting my poor little beagle once. I was told that they were thirsty and in a bad mood. Somehow, I think they are usually in a bad mood.

Lolly said...

Oh, Lori....my sympathy!! I stepped on a nest a few years ago and got over 20 stings. Used my epipen and drove myself to the hospital as Jack was not home. I am allergic to wasp stings and was not sure about yellow jackets. Learned I am not allergic to yellow jackets. I did the same thing....ran across the yard stripping off my clothes.

stronghunter said...

Looked up Walden, too, Lynn. It is not that far from Fort Collins.

DanaMo said...

Trying to post pictures. I hope this works. I am using Picasso.

stronghunter said...

Got a yellow jacket up my jeans once. Made it to the garage before disrobing, but only because I crushed it in my hand through the pants before I got there.

Lolly said...

Okay, I have to leave this great company. Need to get ready for church.

See you later, Gators!

Have a wonderful, blessed Sunday!

DanaMo said...

We have had alot of wasps around the pool trying to get water. It took me a while to realize what they were doing. They hang around the stair area where there are little dips in the plastic and water gathers. They really are slow and hang around.

Lori O. said...

Thanks SHIRLEY, LOLLY...I just had a guy out to keep a nest in a rock wall way on the other side of the yard. I never saw these coming. I'm not allergic, they just swell and sting like he_ _!!!

OMG LOLLY you must have been scared to death not knowing what stung you but knowing you're allergic to bees!
SHIRLEY, I'd say that "bad mood and thirsty" describes those little SOB's perfectly!

stronghunter said...

My ex ran into a yellow jacket nest with the lawn mower. He came into the house bringing several with him. One stung Kathryn.

He headed to the hardware store for spray and one flew out of his clothes in the store.

We were in a new house in a formerly wooded area, and there were several nests on our property.

Lori O. said...

LOL! Glad I'm not the only one
who disrobes and runs!
Hope no one drops by because my clothes are still out there!

Lori O. said...

Just a few days ago while I was in PA one of my Dada's friends ran over a nest with a tractor and had to go to the hospital. He's a big, heavy man and couldn't get away fast enough since he was out in a field.

LYNN, my folks have a former farm - split up some by a few of the kids now I think my folks have 76 acres now, but they just have a small garden. Sometimes people lease the land to grow crops on it. Sometimes he just lets people use it for alfalfa because it's good for the soil.
I hope your guy is a licensed contractor. Even if he is, these projects are never as easy as we hope. I'm so sorry.

Lori O. said...

OK that should be DAD's...I no longer call him dada! lol

hedgie said...

Yes, Shirley, 1986. I bought it in '92.

Lori, please be very careful! Do you have any Benadryl? Remember, folks: ANYONE can become ALLERGIC to ANYTHING at ANYTIME!!!! Past history is meaningless!!!
I've seen a lot of yellowjackets at the hummer feeder the last couple of days. Always leary of walking out to retrieve trailcam--they nest in the ground--and under leaf cover!

Lori, I used to work with Sgt. Beasley's step-mother, I think. Interesting proposition you've made.

hedgie said...

I have a big deck, but not able to use it since they built next door two years....NO privacy anymore. Thought the fence would help--and then they built their HIGH deck. Haven't even put the cushions on the glider in that long. :(
Small deck on opposite side is barely wide enough to even accommodate a chair! I sometimes go out there and sit on the top step....can't use my bedroom balcony, either, due to neighbors.

hedgie said...

I will get my railings painted after all this other is done. No longer have to worry about treating the deck itslef since Bill covered it with in I/O carpet.

hedgie said...

No sun yet this morning, and temp is at 82°.

hedgie said...

Wanda, Dustin must have a hollow leg!! What an appetite....but he is a big boy---tall and lean.

hedgie said...

Margy, hope you are sleeping soundly and that all stays quiet overhead!

hedgie said...

Speaking of insects...I had a swarm of red ants yesterday behind the house...looked like an army of a thousand! No idea where they came from unless an old stump. "Treated" the heck out of them with granules and spray! Only saw one out there this morning.

Corn feeder is either empty or clogged....don't think I can get that far away from the house this morning. :(

hedgie said...

Paula.....shame on Nick!!! :)
My coffee table is irreplaceable...but luckily Liesl didn't do too much damage....made it look a bit more rustic. I am still having to keep short bar stools upside down on the entry runner rug because she still wants to chew on the corners--Mai had started it!

Hoda said...

GoodMorning...LYNN thank you for the link on Yoga and paddle boards...WOW I am not sure I can do that...a question of balance for me...It seems they are enjoying it and it takes them out of the studio. I like doing yoga outdoors, but I am not sure I can handle it on a paddle board!!!

Lots of good conversation on decks.

What a story LORI and LOLLY about the disrobing on the run!!!LOL
Glad you are both OK after the experience. Lori what do you put on the stings so they do not hurt and infect?

hedgie said...

I know about the fading---decorative pillows on sunroom sofa are "two-toned"---have to keep flipping them to get even!

hedgie said...

Relieved to say that the tablecloth on the dining table washed clean from the yucky leakage!

hedgie said...

DanaMO--How was the wedding?? Glad you are sleeping. When do you head home?

hedgie said...

Great, DanaMo! Looks like everyone is having fun! I was at Disneyland back in '79....wonder if it's changed much since then?

Commenting on blogs sure is a pain anymore!

hedgie said...

Howdy, Hoda!!! I would not trust MY sense of balance at all!!!

paula eagleholic said...

Lynn, I was really mad last night when I got home...I had covered the arms with towels and put boxes on the sofa....he took off the towels and chewed some more! Hopefully that's over with now!

Feels good inside, taking a break, just about done...have one more plant, but think I have to wait until dark...the bees just love the lavender.

paula eagleholic said...

Gotta go start some laundry and grab some breakfast!

JudyEddy said...

Oh my words yep I came home during lunch and saw over one hundred comments and I thought maybe a eagle was at the nest but so far doesn't seem to be that way Oh well I went to buy the same camera I had since I have 4 batteries and they are 39 a pop but guess what its has been discontinued darn it anywho So I am going to take one of the batteries to work and see if I can get a camera compatible to the batteries and so luck with the XD Sim card only Olympic makes the camera for it so I will just have to use SD cards I use to have 4 now only two since my daughter has adopted the other two

LAST VISIT BY TRUDER WAS ON THE 18TH 5:23AM I have been writing it down the past couple of times (7 entries) so far Just started it in a comp book

stronghunter said...

We have used Scat Mats to keep the dogs off things we do not want them on. Fairly expensive, but not when you want to protect something important.

stronghunter said...

I think they are less expensive online than at the store.

Note to travelers: GPS does not work in Louisiana---at least, Garmen doesn't! Charlie got lost! Ended up being a 30 hr. trip---argh! With a screaming toddler onboard and a smacking mother. UGH. Hope he learned his lesson and does no more "favors" for a friend. Hotel room the guy got was awful: Charlie and Donald didn't even stay in it. Found their own room elsewhere. Got about 7 hrs. of sleep and are now on their way home.

hedgie said...

Guys are here.....I've got my towels at the ready......

Lori O. said...

Thanks Dr. LYNN! I forgot that people can become allergic to almost anything at anytime. Happens to my Mom all the time with antibiotics.

I took some Benedryl, and put Benedryl Gel on the bites right away. They're just a dull throb right now, should feel nothing in a few hours. This is the third swarm attack I've had get me here and I'm becoming very paranoid!

Lori O. said...

LYNN, how great that you may know Mrs. Beasley, Bobby's step mom. She could fill in some blanks. Not that we have any - guy gives his life for his country, that says it all, but I love that he loved wildlife and taking photos of them.

Lori O. said...

SHIRLEY, I have an idea for your deck. I've always wanted to do this. Build your deck and cut a hole in it for a tree to grow through. Don't get a maple though - roots are too shallow and it would be too close to your house for that unless you built a really big deck. Then when it's full grown you can build a wood bench around the trunk. I've seen pictures and it looks gorgeous!

hedgie said...

Ever seen the ads for those ladders that do all kinds of varied positions? VERY UNWIELDLY in a small space---like the small deck off the sunroom! Like watching keystone kops!!!

paula eagleholic said...

Lynn, amazing pic of the tree.

Lori, would love to have a deck like that, too.

DanaMo said...

My husband fell off of one of those ladders in the garage trying to get something out of the attic. He didn't have the lock completely engaged and down he went. Could have been really bad, thankfully just a broken wrist.

hedgie said...

From WCV:
Sorry Eagle Cam fans ... looks like a power outage last night wreaked some technological havoc at the Center. Some of our phones aren't working, some internet-connection problems ... and of course ... cam issues.

stronghunter said...

Wow! Glad no one was nearby when the lightning struck, Lynn. I see parts of a pine tree there, too.

stronghunter said...

Would love to have a tree in the middle of my deck, but I have seen problems with those. Neighbors who had one ended up in a mess when the tree died and had to be removed very carefully by professionals.

stronghunter said...

Wouldn't this be an interesting place to live?

hedgie said...

Oh, my---so bad in one place I had to put a container under it to catch the water pouring in.

AND---Liesl almost got loose---they left the GATE open in her yard. Sure warned them about that!
Luckily, she didn't notice before I did and snatched her!

hedgie said...

DanaMo, you have been busy with those pics!!! Very nice! Cool that you can use Picasa that way!

DanaWV, you should do yours the same way so you can put them on your blog for all to see.

Lori, I don't think the ex-Mrs. Beasley is even still in the area. Think she went back to where she came from after the divorce. It was over 30 yrs. ago that I worked with her.

Kay said...

Kay said...Whew ! I think I've finally caught up with youse guys, but my mind is swimming with the details ! Can't even begin to comment on all the interesting things you've posted !

Homecomings is the theme of the day for me !

LORI, what great news from you regarding Nancy's leaving the hospital and the fine care she'll be receiving at home ! And, so happy you are back home, too ! Sorry the yellow jackets gave you such a lousy welcome, however.

Just heard from my dil. Her mom, Judy, will be going home in a couple of days after so many weeks in the hospital. A lot more treatment for the Leukemia to follow and bone marrow transplant being given serious consideration. Eagle Buds, your prayers have helped make this happen and I thank you from the bottom of my heart ! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

My friends left this morning to meander eastward. They are due in Cooperstown, NY early in August and will delight in watching a 12 yr. old grandson represent CA on an All Star baseball team. We had such a great time in spite of the weather !

Lynn, what a mess you have to contend with---you are going to be worn to a frazzle by the time this is all over with ! So glad Liesl didn't escape when that gate was left open. What a frightening thought.

hedgie said...

That surely is an unusual house, Shirley. Going to look at the others now...
Hmmm... have seen the Gehry house before. Wonder if the DOme home is near Roswell? Looks alien!!
WOnder if th e Floating Home is the one that Tom Hank's character lived in in Sleepless in Seattle?
