I was going to say the chicks two of them are alone at Two Harbors, and it's wet at Pelican Harbor... but there is not a single site that I check that freezes my computer immediately than those IWS sites.....so I don't know what's showing now, and I can't get West End up....says Channel is blocked...
There is a lot of information on our FWS home page about past successes, and failures, at the NCTC nest....
And you will quickly notice if you have not already, that we talk about a lot of other sites, but NCTC and Our site, parents Liberty and Belle, and baby we often refer to as Hidey, or Miracle...Is Our Favorite, Hands Down !
That strange object could be a dead bird, but nobody is sure yet. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we are all very eager to find out more. Am I wrong?
I am back home and was forewarned that we didn't have an eaglet at 7ish. I think it might be a squirrel. When I zoom in I can see a head that resembles a squirrel. The rest of the body doesn't quite match though.
I have seen evidence of a second, and unfortunately deceased, eaglet. Has anyone else noticed this?? I am new to the site and don't know how many eaglets were hatched.
If you got Blogger Copped as we call it, it is because probably two or three were sending a post at the same time...it really drives us nuts but does not happen that often. I have taken to highlight copy my message, then unhighlight, and send, so it if it gets lost I can paste it and try again....
OK back for a sec, dinner is going fine and jubby not home yet...think it was OK site that might have had the American coots brought to the nest...it is like a duck, Thelma, I think...
Yes, Ditto that emotion from Mits...welcome to the newcomers...many of you all at once....☺ Our nest is TOPS - we just got a new cam site last week, so you have joined at the perfect time ! ☺
I think Loretta sees them at PWP - I have not been far enough afield here to know whether we have them around here in Berkeley County... It is a beautiful bird...but I think all the local coots are safe right now...☺ NCTC-Wise that is....
Okay I AM disappearing now... before my "other" family all hits the hay and gives up on me
Get this: My brother in studying prairie dogs in Colorado, and sometimes puts on 11 upper layers....and Lord only know what happens from the waist down!
Hand-warmers, toe-warmers and so on like that...sometimes his grants cover down-filled clothing. He writes an interesting report each week, including what birds he is seeing...
T-Bird it is not too personal about why I chose this name. I chose it because I have been studying and observing eagles for a good time period now. Not meaning to be selfish and full of myself, but I think that I do know a lot about eagles.
I was gone for a while. I agree, it was fur not feathers. A coot is a mostly black bird with a white patch around its beak area. I could have taken pictures of about 2,000 of them today, had I know we would be talking about them. In fact, maybe I got one, I'll check.
No, Karin, no 2nd eaglet...we only had one birth this year. Welcome, and also to eaglewiz972, cyclingswim and kickgirl52. I thought the thung n the nest looked like a turtle at first, but light just not right to really tell w/ these ol' eyes! Magpie was right on....if more than one or two hit publish at the same time, blogger cop grabs it! A comment can only be removed once it's oosted by the writer, I believe. Mits, no rerun on NCIS! But sure the season will be ending soon.
ok well it looks like the eagles have settles down for a good nights rest. Therefore I am going to be getting off. I will be online checking out on things again tomorrow.
I had to step back in for a minute. Thanks Hedgie, I got it and we had no snow in Bedford. Eagle Wiz972, cyclingswin and kickgirl52; are you three friends?
I put up the picture I had of a coot. The Coot wasn't my main focus. When I opened the picture, there was a leucistic Coot in the upper corner. I have heard about leucistic birds, but hadn't ever seen one before.
So, I really DID leave and then all the eating fun began, huh?
I put about six more pictures on the Momsters album...shows the Blob pretty well....I didn't start taking pictures at first....
Now to go look at those new pictures, DEB, and the word Leucistic...have a vague idea because of the way word sounds, will see if my brain is working any good tonight.
I think from past years they have not had to do AI, sometimes, because Gao-Gao has done a pretty good job on his own, although two years ago when they used his sperm on Mei Xiang is was a bust.
There is a good post on the Maine Forum about the Pelican Harbor chick...."might have been an infected yolk sac, and the parents cannot make the chick eat." (from Dr. Sharpe.) You all probably have already checked that. Tough....
I check Maine from time to time, and now will do so for the California ISW nests for sure, I will not visit the sites again, after tonight.
BTW - I cannot get Colorado Eagle nest up, but the Forum reported that all three chicks were doing well and eating...so that is another reason I went...otherwise, I guess I have my hands full unless I get overwhelmingly curious!
You folks are the BEST source of information anyway. ☺
Oh well, Hedgie, you can do like I do....check them (the stork sites) at 4:30 when I get up for work! (like I do Finney nests and the Scotland Osprey sites) ☺ Thought you would like that suggestion. That is when I used to find them last year, on my nights off...
I know Wanda once expressed "feeling" for me when I was up so early, but I have a lot of fun that time of the morning! Then I have to hustle to get ready. Might as well just sleep in my clothes!
Luecistic is a lack of normal pigment in an animal, making it have white feathers or fur. I will have to look it up, but I am pretty sure that is what it is.
Hi all! Wow a lot of blogs today and several new faces. That is great!
Worked all day in the yard...what else is new? LOL Planted my new planter. Can't wait until the plants have matured a bit. I have posted pictures of the planter and more of Hawkwood on my blog Hawkwood. Love that planter!
Leucism is a condition characterized by reduced pigmentation in animals. Unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction in all types of skin pigment, not just melanin.
Did you know that polar bears hair is CLEAR, and that the reflection of light makes it appear white? The yellowish or brown casts come from oxidation and staining.
I think SD had a different male Panda years ago, plus zoos' procedures were more primitive; so SD did use artificial means to produce cubs.
But I think Gao Gao has been able to read Bai Yun's signs well, the zoo has become better at facilitating mating, and all of their offspring have been naturally produced since.
When I was very young, our estuary near Torrey Pines Park used to be a stop on the Pacific Flyway, and we had all kinds of aquatic birds there.
But DDT was heavily used to kill mosquitos after the War (it was considered one of the 'miracle chemicals' then), and between that and many other pollutants, the birds disappeared from our 'slough.'
Except the Mud Hens! We thought they were impervious to the chems, but I think it was that they eat plant matter instead of fish or crustaceans that spared them.
Anyway, they are tough little birds and stayed around through it all. And the waters of all the estuaries in that area are very much cleaner and better for the water fowl and herons, etc. Probably considered prime wetlands now again.
Come to think of it, one of my youth's friends went to Torrey Pines Park recently, and I have a pic or two of the estuary in question and where we lived on the hillside opposite the park.
It is so developed now it is barely recognizable as our old home grounds, but there it is.
I might email a picture out...maybe tomorrow. I'm running late this evening, so I think I'll say,
Nighty nite everyone! Looks like Belle finally got Hidey hidden. Went down to boat ramp area after work at Park & saw a little muskrat who started to leave the area, but stopped to nibble something, so I got his pic. I totally forgot & didn't have time to even dwnld camera.Ospreys were flying all over today & the eagle is sitting higher in the nest so you can see her. She put head down this AM like in a feeding position. Will see what the pond holds in store tomorrow ☺
41' is the prediction as of now, Paula. Lynn, I wonder if they are replacing some of the dike. I heard that frozen sand bags aren't as effective. I hadn't seen where they were taking any down, must have missed that.

Must have been before I joined, Mits, or else CRS disease reigns!!
Yea, Helen...you did it!!!
Time to eat.....tamales on the menu this evening...yum!
now that they brought the fluff into the nest it looks a lot tidier
BOTH AT NEST
THINK Belle BROUGHT IN AN EEL OR SNAKE
and a fish too...
Lib took off, with what might have been an eel or maybe the long dark thing that has been in the nest
funny how they eat the heads first
eating that fish fast.
I am home for a little bit. I have the WE nest open and just heard the menu for some restaurant in the background!
Well that didn't last long, off to pick up a friend.
Are we still silent or did I lose my hearing?
Nice Meal...
Hello Good Evening Eagle Pals, it's good to be back, wanna catch up
Baby is getting kinda big to corral....
I guess they go for the brains first....☺
Eagle at PH getting very wet.
Need to check up on that Paula said WE has a chick. Still haven't seen it. Even with parent being off nest.
I was going to say the chicks two of them are alone at Two Harbors, and it's wet at Pelican Harbor...
but there is not a single site that I check that freezes my computer immediately than those IWS sites.....so I don't know what's showing now, and I can't get West End up....says Channel is blocked...
sure do miss the sound:(
So, did our Baby move way over while I was getting shut down ?
Boy is it windy there. The parent really does have to try hard to keep the baby warm in this weather! :-)
is that a dead baby in the nest?? all i saw was the dad (or mom) carry it to the other side of the nest (away from the baby)
Or is that pile around 7 pm in the nest, something else like tonight's dinner...
Heron cam is empty of birds, but not empty of noise !
think it might just be leftover bird, not eaten yet.
hard to tell what it is, since we do not have an easy zoom access.
That is so weird though, as much as it does seem to resemble our eaglet....
Thanks - I would be very comforted to know it is leftover food, missed what was going while Microsoft knocked me off everything
pretty sure I saw the adult cover the eaglet after feeding.
Well, I like that idea...sure is an occasion where "More To Be Revealed" comes to mind...
Yeah. It really is hard to tell what that is. I don't know what to think and I'm very curious to find out.
I'm just glad that the baby is doing pretty well even though it is cold.
We just have to wait it out...
Okay ! We Are Good, Life is Good, Baby is Wiggling !
Man, please parent eagle, move that blog before the rest of us have heart failure!
Thanks to God....
We only have one, Eagle wiz 972 - Three eggs, one hatch, on March 14
Two parents of course....
he/she is doing very well and getting well fed, eaglewiz as for the cold snap, probaly old enough to tuff it out with mom and dads help:)
Hello my fine eagle momsters and dadsters.
The baby is looking pretty good to me at the time being. :-) It's all good!
I hope you are all staying warm in your neck of the woods.

Good to See You, as Always ! ☺ ♥
Good to see you too Magpie.
Yeah. It's good that the wind has calmed down. Although it's still mighty windy out there! The feathers are blowing and flapping wildly.
Someone can come scrape me off the floor now...
Guess if IWS hadn't messed with me I would have seen what was going on....
T-Bird, hugs and scratches for that Buddy for me !
The Maine Forum will be my fast friend now for the IWS California sites, and your all's news....
I have learned my lesson :(
Baby is doing great and everything is good! I'm so happy that all is well. :-)
Buddy sends hugs and kisses back Magpie. : )

That strange object could be a dead bird, but nobody is sure yet. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we are all very eager to find out more. Am I wrong?
We also suffer from a condition we refer to as Camoholism....coined by our NatureNut....
You probably get the picture...
When the other adult arrives, maybe he or she, because I am not good at telling them apart sometimes, might fuss with it...
I will be right back. I must go eat. Tell me any interesting things that happened when I'm gone if there is any. :-)
yes. then we would know a little more
T-Bird and Buddy !
Thanks, I can feel it! I'm all aglow now...xoxox ☺
Headed over to do some family emails.
TTFN Have a Great Evening...
xo ☺ ♥
Eagle wiz 972, I'm definitely anxious to know what the food is. Where did the eagle wiz 972 name come from? If that isn't too personal ofcourse.
Later Magpie and Eagle Wiz 972.
PS T-Bird -
That Buddy Avatar is one of my very favorites !
sometimes very strange things come into the nest.
cu later eagle wiz
Okay - there is the second adult to take care of things for us !
Hello MITS, how are you?
and here we go...both are there
I'm doing super, Thelma, how about you?
I am back home and was forewarned that we didn't have an eaglet at 7ish. I think it might be a squirrel. When I zoom in I can see a head that resembles a squirrel. The rest of the body doesn't quite match though.
Well I guess he actually brought more food, and is stepping on the other thing...and away went Mom (or Dad....) for a break
Oh, sound would be great now....
☺
I thought squirrel first, but as usual, I aways seem to see a beak on these things
I think dad just left, what did mom bring in?
got to go fix dinner, and watch NCIS, hope it is not a repeat.
Later MITS
Mom brought in a fish.
I love the way they transport the fish to that part of the nest !
Makes for an easy midnight snack !
Ha HA T-Bird...neither one of us left DID WE ? ☺
I've seen something similar in other nests and am told the "thing" is an American Coot.
my comment was deleted?? why is this?
Kickgirl, sometimes we delete our own comments if we make mistakes and such.... I'm not sure about yours. ???
I have seen evidence of a second, and unfortunately deceased, eaglet. Has anyone else noticed this?? I am new to the site and don't know how many eaglets were hatched.
Thanks!
If you got Blogger Copped as we call it, it is because probably two or three were sending a post at the same time...it really drives us nuts but does not happen that often. I have taken to highlight copy my message, then unhighlight, and send, so it if it gets lost I can paste it and try again....
Yeah Magpie, we didn't leave. : ) What is a coot?
Unless you accidentally hit your trash can! that will delete it...
but you usually get a choice on that.
Karin, one eaglet hatched.
OK back for a sec, dinner is going fine and jubby not home yet...think it was OK site that might have had the American coots brought to the nest...it is like a duck, Thelma, I think...
Read backwards, the drama is revealed ...
A Coot - Deb can give us the best answer and I am not sure we have them here...
a medium chicken sized swimming bird in the Rail family
welcome to all the newbies:)
Hidey is too full or lazy to sit up during this feeding
ok like a chicken not a duck then...lol
Yes, Ditto that emotion from Mits...welcome to the newcomers...many of you all at once....☺ Our nest is TOPS - we just got a new cam site last week, so you have joined at the perfect time ! ☺
I googled the American Coot. They are beautiful.
Baby's crop is really getting full... Paula would like to see this !
not to pretty when they are in an eagle nest, Thelma
They mate for life too.
Ha ha MITS. : ) You are exactly right.
I'm not sure it is a coot. ???
Not to go on and on; however, I have no experience with coots in eagle's nests. : )
I think Loretta sees them at PWP - I have not been far enough afield here to know whether we have them around here in Berkeley County...
It is a beautiful bird...but I think all the local coots are safe right now...☺ NCTC-Wise that is....

that cold, Margy?
poof Belle
...because of the extreme cold....
Hand-warmers, toe-warmers and so on like that...sometimes his grants cover down-filled clothing. He writes an interesting report each week, including what birds he is seeing...
'Bye - I said it and I am going to do it..

feeding a worm. yummy. lol
Yeah yeah yeah Magpie. We do hear the words that are coming out of your mouth. But is it true. If it is later.
That's great Eagle Wiz972. What about the 972?
did anything interesting go on while i was gone?
972 is just my lucky #. LOL.
Eagle Wiz972 a fish was brought in.
Hi all new people to Eagleland
The item of food in nest has fur. I too thought squirrel as I zoomed in. No tail and no head. hummm Still trying to figure out what it is???
what is that he/she is biting and playing with? it's hard to make it out.
Deb you still zooming in ???
It is definitely defeathered.
ok. thats good.
I think Helen told us a few weeks ago that she has soom old 'coots' where she lives:)
oh yay! the other eagle is back! HOW EXCITING! :-)
Pluked I guess would be a better word, huh?
Groundhog?
Libbe and Belle both want to eat it. They share so good.
So good to see so many new friends on here and a lot of old timers too:)
yeah. they sure do. it's just marvelous to have such intriging birds. beautiful ones too!
To zoom in
(1)Put cursor on picture click zoom in
(2) Then just move cursor on the brown coloring near volume. It turns to a hand.
(3) Left click and continue holding down on cursor while moving into picture. Remain holding cursor down and move pic around.
you're right Costume Lady. It is nice to see some new faces (or pictures and names) that share interest in these wonderful eagles.
It is getting dark and cold..38°, so I guess Mom is going to put Hidey to bed.
Hi Dana. Does anyone know the network the women's championship is being played on? I can't find it.
I was gone for a while. I agree, it was fur not feathers. A coot is a mostly black bird with a white patch around its beak area. I could have taken pictures of about 2,000 of them today, had I know we would be talking about them. In fact, maybe I got one, I'll check.
Thanks, Dana...I forgot how to do that. It's a bit tricky.
I stand corrected, it is getting defurred. : )
Later everyone. Thanks for the company. I've got to find the game.
Well it looks like all is good in our little friends' nest right now. :-)
TTYL T-Bird
goodnight Hidey. Lol!
Bye Thelma and Buddy:)
TV time here...
yup. it looks like bedtime for the eagles.
looks like a pretty brreezy night for the birds.
has there been a feeding lately?
i have not been on for a little while. I was eating.
No, Karin, no 2nd eaglet...we only had one birth this year.
Welcome, and also to eaglewiz972, cyclingswim and kickgirl52.
I thought the thung n the nest looked like a turtle at first, but light just not right to really tell w/ these ol' eyes!

Mits, no rerun on NCIS! But sure the season will be ending soon.
Make that Posted by the writer...
Thelma, did you get snow in Bedford???
the food does have feathers it looks like to me either that or the object has been defeathered.
ok well it looks like the eagles have settles down for a good nights rest. Therefore I am going to be getting off. I will be online checking out on things again tomorrow.
THelma....ESPN for game.
Wind has calmed down alot....temp at 37. Fire sure feels good!
Here's an interesting blog in SD about Bai Yun's possible beginning of estrus and Gao Gao's reactions and what it means....
Bai Yun's estrus

Sounds very encouraging, Jim. Will they do IV if a natural mating does not take place?
ah, I think that would be an AI, Lynn, artificial insemination...
Lost a few brain cells earlier, that's all :(
Hi Come Back Evening Eagle Pals...xo
I think from past years they have not had to do AI, sometimes, because Gao-Gao has done a pretty good job on his own, although two years ago when they used his sperm on Mei Xiang is was a bust.
There is a good post on the Maine Forum about the Pelican Harbor chick...."might have been an infected yolk sac, and the parents cannot make the chick eat." (from Dr. Sharpe.) You all probably have already checked that.
Tough....
Margy, I never go to the other forums, unless someone copies and pasted what they want us to read....:)
Nice, Deb...
and I loved the Goldfinch pictures too! Another bird with bold color contrasts...
Deb - I figured "white" would figure in there somehow...can you give us a quickie lesson?
I was thinking InVitro, Mits.
Too bad those sites crash for you, Margy.
European Stork sites are apparently back up and active, but will have to look in the daylight to be sure!
yes, Lynn thought so, just not a terminology I have ever heard them use at the zoo for the pandas
Oh well, Hedgie, you can do like I do....check them (the stork sites) at 4:30 when I get up for work! (like I do Finney nests and the Scotland Osprey sites) ☺ Thought you would like that suggestion. That is when I used to find them last year, on my nights off...
I know Wanda once expressed "feeling" for me when I was up so early, but I have a lot of fun that time of the morning!

...and a nice new Avatar....an Iris?
Thanks for all the beauty, Lolly - Sounds like we need to make a field trip to Hawkwood Gardens ! ☺ I think Wanda already thought of that!
Deb - that is about what I found too, a kind of albinism I guess, and there were some cool pictures of such birds on Google...
Okay, disappearing for a bit....
Will check in with a final good night, the Night Bandit is lurking
:(
oooops, see the much better definition , Deb - thanks. I have never seen it....
that I know of...
Yes, an Iris. This yellow one is my favorite. It is blooming outside my bedroom window. It tell me good morning each day! LOL
Hey, come on! June is a great time to see Hawkwood. I'll even feed you!
Did you know that polar bears hair is CLEAR, and that the reflection of light makes it appear white? The yellowish or brown casts come from oxidation and staining.
Lolly, what a neat planter!! Everything is lovely!
I did not know that, Lynn

Good for Gao Gao!!! Wishing them success again!
Mits, that was one of Jack Hannas' lessons!!
at age 18 and 19, they are pretty mature pandas, and know what they are doing:)
Hedgie - No way did my Mom get all her money back...far from it...she did just get a final payment back in December.
I think Mits posted about that nest on the GW parkway
OK, I have read up to the split.
Never seen a white "Mud Hen" before, Deb. [:~D]
When I was very young, our estuary near Torrey Pines Park used to be a stop on the Pacific Flyway, and we had all kinds of aquatic birds there.

Dana - there is another video just posted on IWS nest watch...page 31, Lori from Maine forum...you can see the chick better there.
Dr S thinks an eaglet hatched at PH this morning, around 10:30 or so...but no confirmed sighting of a chick yet.
I thought I saw one this morning, but then we saw the egg 2 times after that....
I didn't know that about the Polar bears, either.
I didn't know that about the Polar bears, either.

Night Dana.
It will be interesting to see that prey in the morning light!
And welcome Karin
They are sandbagging again in Fargo so they are ready for the newest snow to start melting. They think the next threat will be in about 10 days.
The rest of my pictures from today are up on Deb's Photos.
Are they expecting it to go as high again, Deb?
Paula, thought the nest that Mits mentioned was one Ceil saw on way to the Airport. This one is way south of the airport...almost to Mt. Vernon.
Deb, when they talked about removing sand bags over the weekend, I wondered why they didn't just leave them in place until later in the spring!
New pics are great, Deb. That feather shot is quite unique!!! Love it!
Nighty nite everyone!
Looks like Belle finally got Hidey hidden.
Went down to boat ramp area after work at Park & saw a little muskrat who started to leave the area, but stopped to nibble something, so I got his pic. Hope everyone gets a good night's rest, and if Glo is working, I hope she is having a good night at work.
God Bless Us, Every One

Going to say goodnight now, dear people. Rest well...prayers and peace for all. Snuggle good if you're around here...a cold night ahead!
BTW, the Duke Farms cam is in Somerville, NJ
Lynn, the one that Ceil has seen is near Baltimore, the one on GW parkway I think is new as of last spring
SPLIT COMING
