it was off for about an hour and 45 minutes last night....winds still strong this a.m. Cherry Blossoms in the neighborhood survived...as long as temps stay cooler , they can stay tighter on the branch and survive the winds
well we must be on the worse Pepco grid, our block was out but the blocks to the south and north were fine....the transformer was right up the street from me about a half block, heard it boom when it blew
Good Sat. Morning Everyone! Think Hidey is getting breakfast, but Mom is blocking the view. Windy here, too, but sunny. Don't think we lost elec, last night.
I was loading a video, maybe that is what was making my cam freeze. It is okay now. I very short clip of the new PH eaglet is on Nest Pictures. Look under 26.
I did something yesterday, which might help everyone (if you haven't done it yet).
Nowdays I always have better than 50 gigabytes of free space on my hard disk ... not like the old days when some of these basic Windows things were developed.
If you look under "Settings" in "Internet Properties", you will see they have allotted a small space for "Temp. INet files", which means you have a small space for graphics (video, etc.), but a small space is no longer necessary on modern puters, and it is slowing everything down to a stop.
So, I just increased it to the maximum possible... 1024 MB. That's not even a small percentage of the free space available on my disk, so why not use it?
good job of catching it Deb, just makes me think looking at the newly hatched one that Hidey was really hiding for a day or 2 before we actually saw her. jmho;)
Good morning Eagleland. Hidey all alone...PLEASE don't blow out of the nest, baby. I am afraid to watch. Don't think the wind is as bad as yesterday evening but still quite strong.
Half watching Cherry Blossom Parade...Alex Trebek is grand marshall. He just said that Jeopardy contestants from the DC area are the most successful of all.
Police: 3 Pittsburgh Officers Killed A Pittsburgh police official speaking on condition of anonymity says three officers have been killed in a shooting.
I just turned it back on a while ago, Jim. It was freezing too bad. 26 could have eaten when she was off the nest this am. Eaglet doesn't have to be fed in the first 24 hours.
Dr. Sharpe said that they didn't feed their first chick (A-49, Cruz) for three days, which retarded her growth. We all thought she was a male, even the banders, until her blood test results were returned much later.
She continued to develop after fledging though, and she is at least as large as a normal female Bald Eagle now.
My neighbor across the street has lost a couple medium sized branches in the wind today. The rain is just starting now, then it is supposed to change to snow a little later this afternoon.
The IWS people are all upset the eaglet hasn't been fed. There is a fish in the nest from an earlier delivery, so when the eaglet is hungary, it will get fed. Looks like it is feeding time right now!
Jo, just wait until I get my knee fixed...I will have metal in my leg too, then we can REALLY drive them crazy setting off alarms...anylwhere we want to!;)
Deb, when I don't have to go out for any reason for a few days, I find the threat of a BIG snow, exciting! I am not sure, but, I may be a little psycho;)???
I never used to mind getting snowed in for awhile, but I would rather be able to go when I want now. I just filled all the hanging bird feeders and the bird baths, so the birds will be okay in the morning.
I remember getting excited when a large snowfall was expected - as long as all the kids were home and the cupboards were filled. Of course that was maybe once at best twice during a winter!
The Black Hills are getting blasted for the third time in 12 days, they are ready for some nice weather out there. It just can't get too nice too fast or they will have some bad flooding.
I haven't had a bad winter at all this year storm wise, although I might not say that after tonight! The Black Hills have really had it bad. Lead, SD, was at 218" of snow before this week, that would not be fun!
Deb, I'm happy with our occasional snow, it is way to stressful to deal with, if the county does not have enough equipment, or it is a mixture of snow and ice...our snow is a lot different here with many variables.
Our winters have really been changing.. I can remember drifts over my head as a young person... and the sledding was a blast in the country fields where I lived. Now I am like you Mits - let it come but get it cleared by morning!!
Yes, you definitely need the right equipment to deal with winter weather. The interstate here has been closed more this year than it has in a long time, due to such strong winds causing white outs.
I have been looking through my binoculars at a groundhog down at the far end of our yard - I thought we had lost him from all the housing development but glad to see he is still there - has really grown! I also caught a glimpse the other day of a lone deer passing by. I used to see a herd of them (10-12) until the golf course went in. PROGRESS ???
just look at last night, we have some wind the power goes out....that is why I want to move to a condo, when jubby retires, if he ever does, a place that has shops within walking distance, maybe backup generators.....the little conveniences.:)
Nope, he didn't eat it, just moved it to the backside of the nest and did some nestoration work.
The chick is more active, and she is bobbing around and looking at Dad, but still no feeding.
You know, I think the feeding is triggered by the actions and sounds of the new chick. I think it has to 'peep' in a hungry way and present its beak in a hungry way in order to get fed.
Probably this one is still feeding on the yoke sack and it hasn't been giving the 'I'm hungry, feed me' signals yet.
What I find most interesting, is the way they draw up their talons, so as not to hurt the baby. I think it is amazing to see those BIG birds tip-toeing around in that nest and never stepping on baby:)

Mom is trying to sit on Hidey to keep her from blowing away and she is not real happy about being covered up again:)
good Saturday morning everyone, have a good day.
I wonder which is more difficult - settling down on a clutch of eggs or
trying to settle down on one growing eaglet? lol
Hold tight to the steering wheel, Paula.

feeding osprey at CC
Thanks Mema Jo for the call over.
Good Morning Eaglelanders Jo, Paula (love your new avatar),
Norma, Wanda, Mits (thanks for the forecast AMEN), and Deb so far.
Thank you Steve for the new thread.
Both eagles are in PH, I am hoping to get a look at the newest eaglet.
Parent switch at PH. You certainly don't see much, with that deep nest bowl, maybe a glimpse of a grey head.
Parent turning eggs at Duke Farms. I thought I'd get a look maybe see a hatch which is due. Parent didn't raise up far enought. Wiggled back down.
Deb how may eggs were laid at PH?
An exchange at Duke Farms all 3 eggs still intact.
Our eagle is calling out and I hear crows!!
Two eggs at PH, Helen.
Dad just arrived with a fish at PH, maybe a feeding coming.

Good Sat. Morning Everyone! Think Hidey is getting breakfast, but Mom is blocking the view.
Windy here, too, but sunny. Don't think we lost elec, last night.
Can see hidey now--Mom standing. Wind noise is strong--turning down the volume!
My cam is freezing, anyone elses?
mine was freezing earlier, Deb
I was loading a video, maybe that is what was making my cam freeze. It is okay now. I very short clip of the new PH eaglet is on Nest Pictures. Look under 26.
Thanks, Mits.
Good Eagleland Morning Jim and Loretta.
Going to take a look at your video Loretta. ty
OOOppppss video is by Deb ty
Great video Deb could see chick very well. ty
I fed your hamster and put her/him on wheel to run.
I think the crows have been giving our adult a fit. Although earlier it was worse. Think other parent chases them off.
Deb, my cam is working just like TV right now.
I did something yesterday, which might help everyone (if you haven't done it yet).

good job of catching it Deb, just makes me think looking at the newly hatched one that Hidey was really hiding for a day or 2 before we actually saw her. jmho;)
Did we know that Pulston Osprey had an egg? I don't remember.
don't think so, looked there late afternoon and no one was there..at that time
There is one there and I am pretty sure it is incubating. I saw what I thought was an egg roll followed by the telltale wiggle.
mine Pulston is not coming up, just keeps loading
2 O's at BWO
Hidey alone
Good morning Eagleland.
Hidey all alone...PLEASE don't blow out of the nest, baby. I am afraid to watch. Don't think the wind is as bad as yesterday evening but still quite strong.
Half watching Cherry Blossom Parade...Alex Trebek is grand marshall. He just said that Jeopardy contestants from the DC area are the most successful of all.
sure looks like incubating at Puleston.
sad news from PA
Police: 3 Pittsburgh Officers Killed
A Pittsburgh police official speaking on condition of anonymity says three
officers have been killed in a shooting.
What is on top of Hidey????
Looks like a miniature swan!
The whole world is getting crazier by the day, Mits. What a shame--can only imagine the pain that department is in.
it is sad and tragic, Lynn...:(
Lunchtime our nest.
Back to my housework. SYL.
No egg in Puleston.
just practicing Deb:)
Lunch is finished & company has left -
time for me to put my leg up with ice.
BBL
1 sea eagle at Finland
just took off.
I am in my computer room, cleaning out my desk, nice to know the nest is right here with me and working so well:)
I have been on the phone most of the morning, it is nice to sit and watch the nests while doing other stuff.
sea eagle back in finland
I would really like to see them raise a family there, or at least the osprey or somebody
Me, too. Back on he phone.
Jo, why are you putting ice on your leg? Is that something you do every day or are you having problems?
poop shoot
Wanda, Jo has swelling when she has her leg down too long, and so ices it when she elevates it.
oh dear, Mei Xiang sounds like she has an allergy....pandas sneeze really loud
Well, Lynn, I guess we'll have to get Jo a timer to tell her it's time to sit down;)
Yes they do, Helen...Remember the video of the Baby Panda sneezing and scaring her Mom half to death?:)
Then there was another Panda that kept sneezing til you thought it wouldn't stop.
I think she has a built-in timer with the leg now
Will that rod be taken out or will she always have it?
I know still laugh when I think of the panda cub sneezing and poopr mom jumping
Tai Shan has a honey box
Fish dinner just arrived.
cool they put Mei's up on a tree stump
I think the rod is a keeper:)
Yep, rod will be permanent, I'm sure.
Then we will have a Bionic Woman on our blog:)
you sure can tell when the poop shoots are coming.
maybe we can take a trip to the airport, and have fun letting her set off alarms:)
ROFLMBO!
Is anyone watching Pelican Harbor? Deb?
As far as I can tell from the blog there and watching a little myself, neither Mom or chick has been fed this A.M.
Is that right?
C(°Ù¿°)D
Jim
I just turned it back on a while ago, Jim. It was freezing too bad. 26 could have eaten when she was off the nest this am. Eaglet doesn't have to be fed in the first 24 hours.
It doesn't appear to have been fed, Deb.
Dr. Sharpe said that they didn't feed their first chick (A-49, Cruz) for three days, which retarded her growth. We all thought she was a male, even the banders, until her blood test results were returned much later.
She continued to develop after fledging though, and she is at least as large as a normal female Bald Eagle now.

Jim
They are talking about naming the PH chick "Windy" because of the strong winds yesterday when she hatched.
Seems like a good name for either sex.
C(°Ù¿°)D
Jim
Definitely a unisex name, Jim. Guess you saw how bad it was for our nest yesterday, too. Definitely some scary times when they left little one alone.
My neighbor across the street has lost a couple medium sized branches in the wind today. The rain is just starting now, then it is supposed to change to snow a little later this afternoon.
Chicklet and egg in view at PH, 10 is on the nest now, I don't see any food that may have been delivered.
I backtracked, 10 did not deliver any food.
I don't believe you all! Wanting to take me to the airport to set off the alarms! ROFLMBO I could do it too!
This ROD is MY ROD FOREVER MORE !
The IWS people are all upset the eaglet hasn't been fed. There is a fish in the nest from an earlier delivery, so when the eaglet is hungary, it will get fed. Looks like it is feeding time right now!
Who would have thought your rod would provide entertainment to others, Jo!!
Both our nest.
Cleaning up some of the nestorvers.
Whoa, eagle almost overboard!
That was Lib that the wind grabbed ahold of and turned him around.
I remember getting excited when a large snowfall was expected - as long as all the kids were home and the cupboards were filled. Of course that was maybe once at best twice during a winter!
Hidey really fills up that egg well!
Eagle back with fluff.
WHOA! Almost landed on top of your head!
Belle is cleaning up the twigs/limbs in the nest!
The Black Hills are getting blasted for the third time in 12 days, they are ready for some nice weather out there. It just can't get too nice too fast or they will have some bad flooding.
Soon enough Hidey will be Bee-Bopping around in that nest!
Here it comes!
Poop shoot. Hidey is getting a little better at balancing.
Deb As I said - 2 winter storms were enough for me. Not so sure I could handle what you go thru nor could I take the flooding like I see happening.
I haven't had a bad winter at all this year storm wise, although I might not say that after tonight! The Black Hills have really had it bad. Lead, SD, was at 218" of snow before this week, that would not be fun!
:):):), Jo, maybe a reality TV show or a soap opera, "As the Rod Turns", Days of our Rods, The Young and the Rodless:).
Deb, I'm happy with our occasional snow, it is way to stressful to deal with, if the county does not have enough equipment, or it is a mixture of snow and ice...our snow is a lot different here with many variables.
I have always liked it to come and go really fast
Deb got any webcams to see the snow now....I have been looking for some....think all I see are white-outs
LW cam finally opened up for me
I hadn't been able to get it all day
Kent cam open right away
would not open for me either, Jo, been trying all day
Man - there are 686 viewers on the close up view at Hornby.
Both adults are in the OKLA nest
Windy there too!
K10 just found his fish from this morning under some grasses, and it looks like at least he is going to eat...don't know about the chick yet.
C(°Ù¿°)D
Jim
Can you get the Caltrans cam up?
Do you need to use the IWS link to get it?
Nope, he didn't eat it, just moved it to the backside of the nest and did some nestoration work.
The chick is more active, and she is bobbing around and looking at Dad, but still no feeding.
You know, I think the feeding is triggered by the actions and sounds of the new chick. I think it has to 'peep' in a hungry way and present its beak in a hungry way in order to get fed.
Probably this one is still feeding on the yoke sack and it hasn't been giving the 'I'm hungry, feed me' signals yet.

Here are the Sturgis and Deadwood Cams, not too bad there right now.
Sturgis cams
It is just starting to snow here, but here is the Yankton webcam, you can see the snow just starting:
Yankton cam
I watched 10 give the chicklet a couple of bites earlier this afternoon, Jim. See 3:55 comment.
Last site gives you the road condition cams. Click on the little camera images and you can see the road conditions.
Safe Travel
thanks, Deb, I like watching things like that.
Thanks for those cam sites!
no Jo, I just go straight to its site.....both adults were just there. one just left 3 chick-lets resting
Email your link please when you get a chance.
on its way, Jo.
Deb the state map is cool, you can click on the road sites that are closed, usually the ones with the red lines, eerie to see no cars
Yes, not much for travel out there, today. They just closed I90 form Mitchell to Wall.
That map is very handy to have, even in the summer since it shows the road construction.
Looks like the Norfolk eagles have half the fish in VA in their nest again!
C(°Ù¿°)D
Jim
I clicked on the USA map, and Maryland does not have the same type of info, but very informative
I just read that Redoubt blew again this morning at 5:58 Alaska time.
Miracle or Hidey has awakened, stretched at least one leg and one wing, spread both wings, and is now looking hungry.
...Oops. Back down for awhile and no food right now.
C(°Ù¿°)D
Jim
One osprey at BWO platform
Wobble Wobble little Hidey
Poop Shoot. I guess, is why Hidey is up/about!
Dinner time coming up here - as soon as hubby gets home from the Palm Sunday service.... Was a longer then usual mass with the palm procession.
Looks as though some people are posing by one of the cams to be seen back home up on the boardwalk!
is she sending out a warning or a request?
both eagles
she wanted a break
she is back everyone is eating
good grief they are both stuffing him, he will be too heavy to get blown out of the nest
poof Lib
osprey are in and out at BWO
both are back in nest
It is really interesting watching them fix up the nest.
I was thinking the same thing, Jo, in the 3 years I have been watching this nest it has been just super watching their every move
This is the messiest I have ever seen their nest. I think some pine branches may help the odor!
I wish our pop up cam had the 'Always on Top' selection.
Hi Wanda - Hey Sunshine I just sent you an email........
I think that is Lib up front and that
Belle is nesting on Hidey!
What I find most interesting, is the way they draw up their talons, so as not to hurt the baby. I think it is amazing to see those BIG birds tip-toeing around in that nest and never stepping on baby:)
WOW!~ Never saw such a hungry eagle...
Whoops...almost lost it!
I like hearing them eat.
I wonder if there is a way we can keep the pop up, up.
Now where are they going?????
