The video on Beauty was unbelievable that she lie there for 3 hrs!I hope we can get hold of the follow up to see if she is able to eat with the new beak.
I got caught in a downpour while coming home. Love the video on Pearl Catching Air!
Early afternoon Panda Nap may be called for....... BBL
Sorry to just pop back in like this but i think the drugs are wearing off, I'm feeling absolutely awful again, I've coughed so much I think my head is about to explode,,, and I think I ought to go to bed.
It's been a wonderful day, full of laughs and fun I wouldn't expect less from all of you, Thank you.
So I'll say goodnight God Bless, and if the drugs do the same tomorrow,,as Arnie says " I'll Be back",,,,,,
Thank you all for your company today it's been smashing.
Welcome back...we were wondering where you'd been. Sure hope you get well soon! Don't overdo!! All that housework can wear you down, girl! Just watch and blog...the work can wait!
Oh, my goodness, Chrissy; I didn't know we weren't suppose to say anything to FRANK. I just emailed him and told him what a GREAT day we had chatting with you! MY BAD!!
I can't believe what happened at PH and am very saddened :-( I know these things happen in nature but it doesn't make it easier. I didn't have time to watch the cam yesterday except in the early morning and when I turned it on today and no babes were there I thought they had succumbed to the heat. I then came here and saw Steve's note on the main page about a ruckus so I rushed over to the Channel Islands site. I haven't had much time to read the blogs but I have been watching the cams everyday when I can. I will be praying for the 2 babes and for the people taking care of them. I went back to the PH cam, why I don't know, and saw dad on the nest looking around as if to say "where are the babies?" I started crying and clicked off. At least the babes are in the best hands possible in order for them to come out of this! Hooray for the IWS!
I'm beautiful now! Got my hair cut and fixed! Beauty shops are great for making you beautiful!
Barbara, the lady who does my hair, was telling me about the roadrunner nest she has on her property. She just moved to this new place and she is just discovering what she is going to find on her land. She says is is about 10 feet up in a tree, but has not gone close to it. Doesn't want to stress the birds.
Thanks for the great links, Paula. I've been busy between checking those out, lunch and a short nap, but I think I got the essential info on the recent happenings ... thanks to your links.
Has anyone seen the promised photos and video from the team on the scene at Santa Cruz yesterday??
Got to get some normal work done, sorry to say. My nieces birthday is today and her mother's is tomorrow ... a first cousin's is next week and mine not long after that. My Grandmother's was May 10th, so we had May pretty well covered.
Got to send cards and gifts...talk to you all later. :~)
Mits, I see regular gas (all kinds) selling from $3.71-$4.15/gal in So Cal.
I looked up the avian pox the Norfolk chick could have, and it a nasty related to chicken pox, etc. It can be fatal if left untreated, but Norfolk's eaglet should probably be alright. I doubt they will return it to the nest, but I'm not 100% sure of that.
Read up on it, unless you're depressed from current happenings already. Just do a google.
lol.....that is where I checked it, Deb...I might find it cheaper on the Eastern Shore tomorrow when I head to the beach....but I usually don't waste time driving around, been going to this one gas station for 24 years.
I don't drive around either, but definitely watch for cheap prices while I am driving. I got gas yesterday at 3.61 in SF when I drove by a station that had that price. I saw stations at 3.73 and kept going.
UPDATE FROM THE NATIONAL ZOO MOST OF IT WAS THE UPDATES FROM SAN DIEGO May 20 We have heard more about the situation at Wolong from a colleague at the San Diego Zoo's Conservation and Research for Endangered Species, and are relieved that there have been some improvements. Food and medicine have been brought in, and the road leading out has been opened. At least two emergency shipments of supplies for pandas have been delivered, and because of damage caused by the earthquake, many of the pandas are living in smaller makeshift enclosures.
We cannot confirm the number of people at Wolong who were killed, but none were staff or caretakers at the breeding center. Our source says as many as five people who lost their lives may have worked at the Wolong Nature Reserve. He also said that a few pandas escaped from the breeding center after the earthquake, but he thinks that all but two have been caught up and are safe
Hello Finally Everybody! Couldn't find a turned on 'puter at work to look at all day! Was dying!!! Tried to read most of today's. Guess we found out most pertinent PH info last night. Just saw 2 of our babies standing like soldiers at attention! So glad to see Chrissy was on--thought about her and what a blimey fit she would be having watching the first osprey chick hatch! (We'll have to use "daft as a brush" when she's on) At the Park---our Osprey Cam nest resident male whose mate & 3 chicklets disappeared has finally accepted the advances of a new sweet young thing. If they both stay at the nest, we should be able to add a foster chick to their care when bobbles are larger. Opinion on the female's loss is probably predation--same as last year. (But we don't see that at night time, that's why yesterday's PH incident seems so gut wrenching) On way out, tried to see a littl of eagle nest & there was MAJOR wingercises. The wind was so strong, it was movinging the leafy blockage for a few seconds.Got to dwnld cam to see if anything shows. I def saw one large eaglet. Enough for now----Idol starting soon if I can stay awake! DUH

Hi Annie and Kate,
I spoke with Pete who had just left the vet's office. The one bird does have a fractured humerus as we had thought, but no other injuries. He is going to have an orthopedic surgeon look at the bird and do the surgery (probably pinning and wiring the bone). The other chick has been grabbed in the bill (probably how it was drug out of the nest) and it has a deep puncture wound in the upper mandible. The vet wanted to keep that bird for additional treatment and observation to make sure no infection started.
So, that is the news for now. I will keep you posted when I hear more.

Wow, quite a lot happening. It's better when things are not as dramatic.
I've been playing witha wide angle lens I got for my birthday. No wildlife in these shots, just a couple of sunsets at BW from Sunday night:

I can see more on the right
Yes, there is a new tilt. And, may I ask, where is #3????
Ok, I see all three. One was hiding, hiding very well!
That is NOT NICE to hide. A little paranoid after yesterday!
Going to go do a little work out in Jack's shop. BBL
landing was aborted by parent...ok came in the other side
hope the right side of nest is not falling apart
adult gone, didn't see any food come in
and the chicks, are not happy about that

yeah and all I saw was some leaves.....maybe appetizers
looking around, and flapping around

wow, my gas station is selling gas for $4.01, shouda bought it the other day when it was $3.97:(

We paid $3.73 at the Royal Farm and they are usually higher than out the road but it seemed today they were about the same as everyone else
