Info on the Pandas in China
BEIJING (AFP) - More than 80 giant pandas at China's most famous panda park, the Wolong centre, were safe and well following a huge earthquake that struck the area, state press said Tuesday.
A total of 86 giant pandas at the park did not sustain injuries following a 7.9-magnitude quake that hit the southwest province of Sichuan, where the park is located, Xinhua news agency said.
Previous media reports had put the number of pandas in the centre at 130, suggesting some of the endangered animals may still be unaccounted for, but Xinhua's report made no mention of the figure

Poor BWO osprey - I think they now realize their eggs are gone.

Oregon nest was also dealing with intruders this year...not sure if that contributed to the nest failure or not....interesting information on the Maine forum...very cold, snowy wet spring may have also been a factor

I was reading ME last evening on OR cam. It must have been quite confusing trying to figure out what was really going on - sad and like someone else said - you don't think of another eagle causing problems.
Lisa put up a good family shot of their eagle family from today's lunch. Osprey situation is sad - but then I am just a human - what do I know! Lisa thinks they will hang around & defend their nest.

UPDATE FROM THE NATIONAL ZOO
May 13, Afternoon
We just found out via satellite phone that all 86 giant pandas at Wolong are safe. We are relieved at this news but have not heard about Wolong's staff or their families. Our thoughts are with them and the earthquake's many victims. We will post an update when we find out more.

My live feed and sound seem to be working great now. Did you see number 2 (I believe) just doing the serious wing excercises...just about got airborne.
They're all preening like crazy after the big rainstorm, and the fluff is disappearing by the beakful.
The BWO pair are still hanging around on the box. Both were there a couple of minutes ago, but I see only the female now. Since the odds are against it, I think I'll assume they won't lay a second clutch this year; and then if they do, I'll be surprised and pleased.

Spent your tax rebate yet? I've spent about $450 + tax already, almost all on stuff that's made in America, and all of it is stuff I need ... so far.
I'm happy, and I'll be happier when the government actually deposits the $600 to my account [:~D].

Atlanta Panda News Update on China...
Monday, May 12
A 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit Sichuan province today. Many people have contacted us expressing their concern about the giant pandas and Zoo Atlanta staff in Chengdu. We have heard from all of our staff and they are well. All staff and giant pandas at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and Chengdu Zoo are okay as well. We are concerned about staff and animals at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, Wolong. This Research Center is near the epicenter of the earthquake. It is a remote area and so far we have not received any information from the area. Fortunately, Dr. Ben Charlton, who was at the Wolong Research Center last week, is safely back in Chengdu. Please join us in keeping the people and animals of China in your thoughts.

CHENGDU, China - All the pandas at the world's most famous panda preserve were reported safe late Tuesday, more than a day after China's worst earthquake in three decades closed off the remote, mountainous are safe.
The Wolong National Nature Reserve and panda breeding center is the only place in the world where the rare animals can be seen in such large numbers. But Chinese officials and zoo officials overseas had worried about the fate of the center's 86 pandas since Monday's devastating earthquake rattled nearby areas in central Sichuan province.
Late Tuesday, officials at Wolong used a satellite phone to contact the State Forestry Administration and report that the pandas were safe, the official Xinhua News Agency said. It said all panda cubs had been taken to safety.

It just said on channel 9 news. That 8 or 9 Americans were on a trip to see the pandas. They have not been heard from yet.

Thirty-one British tourists who were panda-watching in Wolong National Nature Reserve and initially reported missing were safe and in the provincial capital of Chengdu Tuesday night, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Kerry Zobor, the U.S.-based spokeswoman for the World Wildlife Fund, said they have not been able to contact the 12 WWF members visiting the reserve, or their tour operator.
"The communications are still disrupted and we're hoping to have an update by the end of the day," Zobor said Tuesday.
It seems like if people made it to Chengdu, they are ok....the roads to Wolong even on a good day are very treacherous....

I did check on Oregon nest and she was on egg but flew off.. I dont think that egg will hatch but might surprise us..I am going for dinner and stop by to see Jazzy.. She now says NAN NAN...

Good Evening everybody. Just checking in & saw about stork cam. That is GREAT. Just saw Mom get up & there WERE 2 bobbles. Amazing how they will use those huge bills w/out doing any harm to those tiny babies!

Good morning, world. Nice out, not too cold, no rain, no fog, no snow, doesn't get any better than this. 48° in PA, 56° here in VA. Can't see our kids, just barely, spidey is in his condo building mood again, darn spider! BW kids are sleeping on opposite sides of the nest. Our poor BWO nest is totally MT. Nobody hanging out to sleep. Still see 4 jackdaw chicks and 1 egg. Hope the egg hatches, but the other 4 all hatched the same day, so we'll just have to wait and see. Nothing else open at the moment. All have a great eagle/panda day. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
Good Morning Suz i checked our cam and spidey needs a shot of bug spray!!! What amess the lens is thing is it might have babies also crawlin around who knows.. Today is my son's birthday he turns 28... Maybe i should just stay up and bake his cake..lol Tai was asleep on front of the big windows when i checked a minute ago.. I got 2 cats in heat thats going to be fixed.. thing is i thought the one was amale all this time til now i called it Smokey cause its grey with a lil white under belly welll its Smokette now...lol... Awww, we have an osprey sitting on the egg cup in BWO, poor thing. Deer in PA. BWE kids are awake, and can see our kids now, but not well. Little fluffballs in PA are snuggling together making a pyramid, too cute. Two tallest ones are beaking at each other. Deer are eating trees. Darn stork pic appears to be frozen.

Hi Nilla, hope you're still up! I saw the update on the pandas. So very glad to hear the pandas are alive and well. Now hope they can get food to them!
Nilla, you have my sympathies!!! Two cats in heat is unbearable! One cat is bad enough, but two is just too much. If they're meowing now, ya only got a week or so to go. Suggest you get ear plugs, you'll be crazy by that time. I know I sure would be!

4 deer in PA, rain lasted a minute and then stopped.
PA falcon breakfast time. Mom is defeathering as fast as she can. One of the chicks grabbed a bite anyway, and had feathers sticking out of his mouth. Or rather, HAS feathers sticking out of his mouth. Oh, mom is giving them bites with feathers included. Ok, didn't know that. This one little guy in the front is aggressive, just stretches that ol' neck to grab a bite! Wow, that was quick, bird all gone, dad's gonna have to go hunting again. Now the chicks with their fat little crops are gonna take a nap. One with the feathers is sneezing, trying to get the feathers out. Oh, help from sibling....sibling is grabbing at the feathers, wow, I'm impressed. Feathers all gone. Mother nature never ceases to amaze me! Now the one that grabbed the feathers from the original baby has them sticking out of his mouth. Don't seem to be bothering him, tho. Well, he's brushing them off with his wing. nap time.

Suz, so far so good. We think this last injection is doing what it is supposed to. Gene went in to do some fence work for her and she was digging up a rose bush to replant!

Oh, good for her!!! I'm glad to hear the injection is finally working for her. She probably feel like she can lick the world, but she should probably take it a little bit easy for a while. Bless her heart, she's got energy! I'm glad she's feeling better.

Our kids were all looking off to our left, expecting food, and lo and behold, both Lib and Belle brought food for the guys. That's a very full nest with the whole family!!

Well after baking Wacky Cake for sons birthday I know im wacky too..lol Its so good chocolate with peanut butter icing.. yum yum.. I been surfin cams and Tai was still sleeping woke up once yawned and back down... I missed the falcon feeding Suz but they are adorable those big eyes,, Our 3 seems to be waiting on food.. I still cant not get our live cam up i get a message saying Request not found The link you followed maybe outdated or inaccurate.. rtsp://198.185.178.74/encoder/eaglecam.rm I have uninstalled and reinstalled real player several times...The last time i installed it worked 1 time and then this happens.. 30 second cam works fine.. Well im off the install a new hidden object game i jst got from Big Fish Games.. Have agreat Day
