Tuesday Evening

Lot's of you have already seen this, but just in case you haven't, here's a link to a video showing the action at Pelican Harbor nest. It is an example of how violent nature can be...definitely rated PG.

Else, new thread.

Thanks Steve for the link. I think most of us have seen it. Hoping to hear how they are doing.

Here is an update from IWS:

I spoke with Pete who had just left the vet's office. The one bird does
have a fractured humerus as we had thought, but no other injuries. He is
going to have an orthopedic surgeon look at the bird and do the surgery
(probably pinning and wiring the bone). The other chick has been grabbed
in the bill (probably how it was drug out of the nest) and it has a deep
puncture wound in the upper mandible. The vet wanted to keep that bird for
additional treatment and observation to make sure no infection started.

So, that is the news for now. I will keep you posted when I hear more.

Dave.

Thanks Deb, I just saw that and was about to put it on.

Good night everyone. Prayers for all humans and feather and furry friends in need.

Thanks Deb - I had just read that report - Makes you feel better knowing what is actually going on.

Nite Mits! Guess everyone is finished with tonight's TV programs. :)

Lolly said...

Wonder what that is in the water at the Finland cam. It has gone from right to left and had a little wake.

MITS said...

I saw that Lolly, think it is maybe a duck or swan, been watching it

Lolly said...

Glad you saw it. By the time I posted it was gone.

Lolly said...

It really is a beautiful day there on the cam. The colors are fantastic!

Costume Lady said...

Deb, were you happy with "Dancing's" winner? I wanted Jason to win because he new nothing about dancing and Christy was a dancer from way back. But, she was a very fine dancer and a gracious winner.

Costume Lady said...

Oh, and thanks for Dave's report.

Lolly said...

I wonder how high above the water it is. I just noticed that it looks like you can see the tops of trees on the left.

Lolly said...

I wanted Christy to win, she was so fantastic, but so was Jason. How about Amer. Idol. I want David A. to win!!! I love listening to him sing.

Lolly said...

There goes the ferry! I am aboard for this beautiful ride!

Lolly said...

Wow! Just noticed that the ferry caused ripples in the water up to the nest. It is very still there today and so serene!!!

deb said...

I wanted Kristi to win on Dancing from the minute I saw her on the show. I loved her skating and was glad to see she was a great dancer, too. She is so graceful and talented. Jason was fun to watch, but Kristi was the better dancer.

Both eagles at Kent.

deb said...

I should have said that's my opinion! Everyone sees something different.

Costume Lady said...

I missed the Ferry, once again!
I also, would like David A. to win. He is so sweet and humble. David C. also has a wonderful voice, but his music is not to my liking.

Costume Lady said...

I haven't looked in on Kent for a looong time. It is really good to see Star and Spirit sitting up there. Does anyone know if they are working on that poor nest?

deb said...

That is the first time I have seen them in a couple of weeks. They built it up pretty good, then seemed to take a break.

deb said...

Another update on PH chicks:
Hey All,

I just got off the phone with Peter Sharpe. He said the vet exams for both eaglets went relatively well. The chick with the broken beak should be returning to the island next week and the other with the broken wing will be going into surgery on Thursday (I didn't note which was Spirit and which was Skye when I was handling them, so Peter will have to sort that out for us). The vet said the break is in a 'good' spot and is hoping for a full recovery in 3-5 weeks. I'll let Peter fill you in on the details later tonight or tomorrow.

Peter also said he was interviewed by Channel 4 news and they will be airing tonight at 11pm. That's a bit too late for me, but we're Tivo-ing it for tomorrow.

Dave

Lolly said...

Thanks Deb for the update. This is truly an amazing story that we have all been watching. And, because of the cams those two birds were saved! WOW!

Here is an update on Beauty:

The bald eagle who underwent a successful procedure Monday to attach a prosthetic beak had a bit of a snafu the next morning. The bond holding the plastic beak onto the metal post temporarily fell off.

The team who developed the intricate prosthetic beak re-attached it Tuesday morning and still call the procedure a huge success.

"This isn't the final beak," Nate Calvin, engineer of the prosthetic beak, said. "We had to go with a material that could be easily produced and easily modified."

Calvin anticipated the glue bonding the beak and post would not stick and doesn't see it as a concern because the metal post is still intact and the final beak will be made of titanium.

Beauty is cleaning her feathers now for the first time since her beak was shot off by a hunter three years ago.

deb said...

What a week in the eagle world! Hopefully the little NBG eaglet will get a good report also!

deb said...

I will put up the link for the video, I am just now watching it and it is really good.

Lolly said...

I really like the report of her preening her feathers. Cool!

Yes, just when you think all is going well.....POW....nature takes a blow.

I am really concerned about the NBG eaglet. I want her well, but I do not want her taken from her nest. So much has happened there.

Good morning, world. Cold out again tonight, good grief, thought this was May! 41° in PA, but 55° here so it's going up.
Can almost see our kids thru Spidey's web, and lo and behold, both Intrepid and Destiny are in the nest tonight sleeping! Scotland doesn't say another egg hatched yet, but they are zoomed in on Angus, looks like, so time will tell.
Before I forget, I will NOT be in tomorrow. A friend of mine died last week, and his wife is having a memorial service for him tonight at 7. I told her I would be there for her, so it's gonna be a long day and a long night. Too long a night for me, so will not be in tomorrow. Will be back Friday.
All have a great eagle/panda day. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!

movin said...

Thanks, Steven, I had not seen that version of the intruder attacks ... with the commentary from Dave and the rest.

Well, thank God they are both alive and will survive ... they'll be a little late fledging it looks like though.

Too bad both parents were absent. It could have been averted if one had been nearby.

GOOD NIGHT, EVERYBODY IN EAGLE LAND.

LET'S HOPE FOR BETTER LUCK TOMORROW.

GOOD MORNING TO YOU TO SUZANNE PET,,

I was just doing my virus thingy on the computer and I thought I'd look in on Isla,, but can't see anything either,, but bubs has got a little fur on his bottie this morning,,OMG OMG Hang on HELP !!!!

Suzanne are you watching this
Angus is in the nest and he is getting mobbed by another male bird and all hell has vroken loose of dear God that chick !!!!!

Suzanne said...

OMG, Scotland is showing their reruns like they do every morning, and there was an osprey intruder earlier this morning! Wow, awesome footage, but glad to see Angus chased him off while Isla stayed with baby and eggs. She had to stand and flap her wings too, though. Showed intruder flying in, then Angus flying in and landing on nest while intruder was hovering over nest, Isla got up and started flapping too, and then Angus flew up and looked like a brief confrontation, but it was so quick, couldn't tell. Looked like baby and eggs were fine. Sure hope they stay that way. They zoomed in earlier, and both eggs are still intact. Darn. Hope one of them at least hatches, so baby will have a playmate!

Chrissy Beahan said...

So Sorry to panic so pet,, I'm in tears here, this new Male bird was so vicious with Angus,,, I'm wondering if this new and young bird was the one that first mated with Isla when they first arrived back in Scotland and he is back to claim his offspring,,, oh flippin ekk,,listen to me it sound like an episode of Dallas,,,"Come on Sweellen your mind",,,No I'm not I'm with Cwiff Barmes,,, pardon the baby speak, but those are the clean versions of the names we use over here,

Think our kids are on a half circle on the outside of the nest. Can almost see them thru Spidey's web. Intrepid has been in and out of the nest, and Destiny is practicing wing flaps. Only other cam open is the Scottish osprey, and the baby is active this morning. Whenever mom gets up, he tries to grab her with his beak. Too cute.
Going off line for a while, cutting some CDs, and that's computer intensive, so shutting off for a while. Back later. Hopefully!

Suzanne said...

Well, good morning, Chrissy and Jim! I was not watching and didn't see either of you come in. Please forgive me!
Chrissy, when you watch Isla, if they show a couple slides going across the cam, one will be highlighted in yellow. That's the one they show you. They're usually only a couple minutes, but it's a great way to get caught up if you miss anything. We can't control any part of it, but you CAN highlight a date and time and hit your mouse and it will play. Other than that, they just pick last few hours or so I think. That was scary! That's what, the second time this guy has attacked the nest? They mentioned it quite a while back on their diary.
I really love this cam, love Isla and Angus and the views! And of course, the little baby. He's so cute!
Jim, I hope you can get back to sleep soon! 2:30 in the morning I'm usually driving, but most normal people are sleeping! Wish I could too!!!

Ok you two, have to start these CDs. Keep an eye on things. And Chrissy, Isla and Angus and baby and eggs are fine. Let's hope it stays that way!!

Later...
