I ggogled possum, it looks like the color can vary quite a bit. Probably like you all have gray squirrels and ours are more reddish.

The eagle at SR female was digging around in the egg cup. Maybe making it bigger. She sits there with her egg showing for awhile now. Beautiful picture.

Dana, if you check the information at the bottom of the Catalina Cam, one of them has a list of all eagles born on the island since like 99. If you have the number of the female, she may be listed there. Sorry I can't remember which camera it is.

Right now the two eggs at TH is alone. Eagle parent flew off. Maybe Dr. Sharpe is climbing up the cliffs.

He first takes a picture moving in to get the eggs stomping down rubber gloves takes two wooden eggs out put them in nest takes two real eggs puts in box
Now he moves off and sits himself some place to make sure the parents/parent comes back. To take care of the eggs he put in there.

DEB---I just goggled possum!!---The ones that I have seen---appeared to be larger & don't remember fur being that dark---could be--but I remember the fur as being much lighter!!---They certainly aren't as cute as these appear???---ho!

NORMA- Possum's rank right up there with naked mole rats on the cuteness scale. All the time I lived in Grant County, I hardly saw possums, now here in Downtown Martinsburg, I probably see one a night when I am out working. And Zachary is scared to death of them

She #82 Dia is still sitting away from the 2 eggs in egg cup. She keeps looking at them. Like "ok I am satificed both are still here". Well she flew off.. She will be back. I'm sure of that. She has accepted "fake eggs" for years now.
She flew back in looking towards eggs....moving feet (talcons) towards egg cup....closer...closer..one foot in eggs cup....puttting body into egg cup....laying on "fake eggs"....touched them with beak....all is good...wiggling onto eggs ( : ( :

At Norfolk both eagles are on the same branch, side by side, and you can just see the backs of their heads through the pine needles.

OMG I just saw some awesome wing exercising over at Tesoro! Woooohooooo! That little one is anxious to fly LOL! I took some pics with my digital cam as I can't seem to do a screen save on that one. Haven't put them on my computer yet so hope they come out ok. Look good from what I can tell, tho. Oh, and good afternoon to all :-)
I think it is 2-3 weeks after hatching.

I love the SR cam you can hear them talking lowly to each other. Both parents are in nest with egg. It does get static and pic goes. It does come back....well worth the watch !!

Hi, eagle lovers. I've been reading the blog off & on today and just now had time to comment. I see that we have gained some new bloggers in the past few days - a late "Welcome" to you! It's 20 degrees up here on this mountain. BRRR! JO - I saw your comment about how hard it is to type those weird letters for the word verification. Because we have some projects in Asia, I have to type some weird names of people and places sometimes. Some of those letters just don't seem to go together! The hardest for me to type is a Q without a U after it. I have to force my fingers to do that. Weird - huh? I have a good possum story. Once my husband and I had a friend and her friend, who was from NYC, in the car with us at night. We were driving on a country road when a possum crossed the road in front of our car. The NYC gal started screaming "OMG, OMG, OMG - I thought the rats in NYC were big!!" We laughed so hard we were crying. I can still see the look of amazement on her face. Here goes (you can do it fingers) ..... txlgqxcn Whew - I did it!
I got some information on eagles at SR:
K25... is the male. He was hatched from an egg removed from the West End nest in 1992 and was then fostered into the Pinnacle Rock nest.
K34... is the female. She was produced by the San Francisco Zoo in 1993 and was then released from the Bullrush Hacktower on Catalina Island.
Last season K34 F and K25 M had to chicks that hatched on their own K 02 K 77.
So I guess Dr. Sharpe won't be taking any eggs from this pair.

Eggs at TH being turned just fine. Mommie has no idea ( : wiggling again down into egg cup to care for her 2 eggs (fake).
Carol that was so funny of a story. I am laughing so hard.
Also of interest, the Seal Rocks male (K25) was rescued this past Spring from drowning by a fisherman. He had gotten himself tangled in fishing line and was struggling in the water. Seeing the eagle in distess, the fisherman was able to reach K25 and get him untangled with the help of his friend and then they set him free.

Eagle at BC is settling onto the egg cup. I want to see an egg laid in the daylight. she has eaten, practiced incubating and it is time to lay an egg!! (I hope)
Forgot to say the Dr. visit went very well, healing almost complete and very pleased with vision! Who could ask for anything more.. Thanks for all your prayers and concern. It is truly amazing what God and Prayer can do! To Him goes the Glory!!!

Interesting question Jim. I can't think of any reason these would be different that the others. Could it be the age of the Eagles? Are those nest exposed to more adverse enviromental elements? HUMMMM
Jim there is actually a thread on their blog that sort of deals with the subject.
The eagles feed on marine animal carcasses (not fish) which are contaminated with DDE (?) which builds up in their systems which causes the egg shells to be soft. So age does have something to do with it. The older the eagle the more contaminated.
Thanks, Jill. That could be a reason. The WE females are 25 at least, the male was new to the menage last season and is 7; but the TH pair are not nearly that old...
I just looked them up ... info under the cam ... and they were hatched in 1998 and have been breeding since 2003. They're not very old as Bald Eagle pairs go.
I think you are at least partly right, Jill, and I think I'll check into it further.

Jill, there in a tinyurl.com site which shrinks the long urls, but this "clickable link" is from a formula I got from a dude on the Maine blog last year and then brought to the folks on this blog.
I don't have your e-mail, and it's not a good idea to give it out here, but if you have mine, e-mail me...then I can send you the formula and some instructions.
Another way might be to see if Paula has it listed on the left side of the momsters site.
You have to pay attention to every little detail, but once you've done that, it's easy.
