Oh, how sad! Thanks Steve for the new thread and for letting us know about the eagle. Poor thing!
Good morning everyone! Thanks for providing the smiles this morning. Love having such a cheerful morning group of early birds.
Greatest Margy Moment??? Will have to think about that one, but I have to say I have done the wash load before without the clothes but I know I can do better than that.
Good morning, DanaMo, you are certainly ambitious this morning. Have fun!
Think we are going to finish spreading mulch this morning and clean up the yard from all the wind this weekend. Also, need to do a wee bit of house cleaning.
On my family pics blog I have posted a picture of Joseph and Jacob in their new blazers yesterday morning. Not a great picture as Laurel posted it on fb with her phone. I will get better pictures later.
Leaving to read the paper and enjoy my cup of coffee.
Steve, grateful for the new thread and so sorry to hear the beautiful eagle died. The internal injuries must have been severe.
Sharon, happy to hear you and T-Bird are safely home. Lynn reported last night that Sissy had checked in, but no word on you. I hear ya, there's no place like home and no bed like our very own ! What is the latest on Granny Riffe and her recovery ?
Sound keeps cutting in n' out, but can hear the dogs yapping again today. Are they on the grounds or across the road, anyone know ?
DanaMo, enjoy that PSF after a hard day of work on those cabinets !
Good morning all! I'm late getting here this morning and I missed (and I LOVE the name!!) the Sycamore Sunrise Cyber Cafe! (or the SSCC)
SO so sorry to hear that the eagle didn't make it. Very curious to know if they had any thoughts on what was going on with it.
I'm going with the FLOWER theme this week!! These are some wildflowers from up at the reservoir near us, taken last spring. The larger are Rue Anemone and the little ones are Star Chickweed.
Glo, hmmmm, biscuits n' gravy ! How I'd love to join you !
Anyone suffering from low blood pressure this morning ? Go to OC and check this out:
NCTC Eagle Nest Discussion - Week of 4-25-11 April 25, 2011 2:17 PM BST by Teresa This is my opinion only others may agree, others may not. And we are all entitled to our own opinion. But this is why I think "SPOT" retains his spot. Belle sure is a moody female....
Oh, yeah, that's right, she's vicious and she just keeps reopening that wound. Arrrrrggghhh ! Some of those folks have never really paid attention to the dynamics between Belle and Lib. I guess such a brain injury has affected his ability to do nestorations and have made him the horniest eagle on the face of the earth. Oh, yeah and have rendered him incapable of performing HP properly ! LOL
Every once in a while when going for "Play" or adjusting volume I give in to the urge to look at their comments. I'm almost always sorry !
Good morning everyone - I need to read previous thread & see what the early birds are doing. Sorry to hear about the death of the eagle - grateful to those who helped. Looks like a glorious morning with all the sunshine!
Good Easter Monday morning! LOL as I read the "Margy moment" posts on the old thread!!! I, too, have had coffee maker gaffes: Christmas a few years ago---forgot to remove coffee grounds before brewing tea; sat down for dinner and Jessica says "Grandma the tea tastes like coffee.....others chimed in agreeing. I had not taken a drink yet---I HATE coffee. Glad I wasn't the taster! Had made coffee for Bill! When we had the restaurant, I forgot to put the pot under the BUNN and we ended up with coffee EVERYPLACE!!!
Mema Jo isn't going to the White House for the egg roll....her gd and her family from Ft. Bragg are going.
Hey, Vicky!! Good to see you! How's everything in commode-town??
Glo, hope you can get done before you get more precip.
DanaMo...sure can't wait to see the finished product on your first door!
ROFL, Paula....yep, the beef tongue. But that wasn't a gaffe.....just not anything that appealed to most of us!! If I remember correctly, her co-workers ate it!!
I join the rest of you in being sad the Eagle at the Rehab center did not survive....and also in giving thanks to everyone involved in the rescue and rehabilitation effort
surely hope it was not a "parent" eagle with a family left behind
Lynne....the eagle that died was hit by a car while feeding on a deer carcass.
ROFL, Kay----those people over on OC are clueless!! Wish the moderator would just shut it down. So much misinformation being spread around---that so many will believe. ARGH!!!
I think from what I have read, your all's "Margy Moments" have my washing machine story beat! Neat idea, for the theme "Margy Moments:" Go for It ! I want to see what RED posts ☺
Yes, the Beef Tongue: actually, nobody at work except for one would have anything to do with it...I think I saved a little for Captain Gene though !
Changed my avatar to Lilies-of-the-Valley......mine are up and growing nicely.....will probably bloom BEFORE May, but they are my May birthflower. Love 'em!!
Margy, I've been waiting for you ! Hope you feel well rested and full of "siss boom bah? this morning ! You missed out on the Breakfast Blend Lori, #1 Barista, prepared for the SSCC early birds. She'll fix something equally delicious tomorrow, I'm sure.
Now that you've seen the pic I promised I'm takiing your lead and switching to a floral avatar. This pic was taken in a friends Northern California back yard several years ago. I love yellow flowers whether roses, daffodils, sunflowers.....
Now guys, I worked on getting my sunshine avatar back with the Team Liberty slogan and THEN you talk about flower avatars. Really? I think I am going to keep this avatar and add new flower pictures to Hawkwood. LOL
I met a man yesterday from Snyders' Landing Maryland in Sharpsburg who knew the original "Bird Man" - who would take creatures especially birds in for rehab When he died, with the help of his survivors, eventually his efforts went into what is now the Trego Wildlife Sanctuary in Keedysville I think I have that information correct, Megan would probably know more.
Glad you saw your first Hummer Lynn! Wish I would see MY first Hummer! Steve has seen 2. They must still be migrating past us with the residents to come soon and stay. Oh, yes, thanks for reminding me about the eagle....I had forgotten. Detroit Disease...not a very funny name but in the vet business that's what hit by car is often called.
Hmmmm SSCC not sure I can remember but I do love the name.
Thanks to those who tried to help that eagle. It did not suffer in its death since it was already at the Vet my guess is pain management was given.
Our awesome Belle. They won't fly far picking on her anymore than whoever made that stupid comment about some fight between her and lib early on being why we hadn't seen him in the nest.
HEY NO MATTER HOW THIS PLAYS OUT ""Hands, typing fingers or whatever OFF of Lib and Belle" !!! nuff said
Yep my blood pressure rose a little and oh yes the biscuits and gravy yummy. Still have out front to mow. Its not too bad. it just might wait a few more days.
Read in the paper where the Possum Kingdom fires got rain yesterday. A half inch in some areas and and over an inch in another area. This is good! Chance of more rain today and again tomorrow....maybe it will rain on Hawkwood yet. Please?????
Lolly, your avatar is wonderful--consider it a stylized sunflower and you're right in with the theme ! We do mean "Margy Moments" as in our own gaffes---her unique washer cleaning kicked off a new line of gab !
Adding yet another nest to my "favorites". Isn't that a gorgeous stand of trees at Finney 2 ?
Margy, here in Burleson and many other schools in Texas, the children in 6th or 7th grade do a wild flowers scrapbook. Both my kids did it...still have them. They collect a certain number of wildflowers, press them, and then put them in a scrapbook with identification. It was always fun searching for different ones and we all learned to identify. Now, when we take drives and we see children near a parked car we know they are learning about wildflowers. And, the knowledge stays with them...well, with most anyway!☺
11 o'clock! Need to take care of some things, so am disappearing...
Lynne- thanks for the Mentor compliment...we all come together helping each other out on identifying things... I finally saw James' Rockets (Dame's Rockets) this week-end !!
Would love a road trip to the Trego Wildlife Sanctuary! I remember there was a Newspaper article about the place in Keedysville. Thanks Paula for the Monday Special in the Hearld Mail - I'm headed to Ron's Always next week. A group of us have that as our meeting place. I remember the 'tongue in cheek' conversations on the blog. lol
Gotcha Lolly! In high school we did those plant presses and I have never forgotten what I learned back then.... sure wish I still had MY scrapbook from those days....but I don't think I do :(
And to think, some of these beautiful things are considered "Weeds." I know some are invasive and bothersome, but they sure are pretty !!
Magpie Biscuits and gravy all gone. Time for hot tea. Did I mention its too cold to cut the grass :-). We do it in our winter coats or at least sweatshirts and light jacket. Silly!!!
I don't go near OC either. Just had read what someone brought over here. The price is right for them to host the NCTC cam, but it has caused some issues here for folks who do go there to read. Its really not terribly the new folks fault. They do not have the history of this nest that is available on this BLOG daily and for years back. They think they see something playing out before their eyes that well is pretty far off from the reality of the nest happenings. Tough for us to even know behind the scenes this year given the crummy facts we do know. I know folks have tried to straighten them out as that has been shared here too, but alas. :-( We love our Original Pair. Those who enjoyed watching them will never forget the chemistry they shared with us year after year. So yep its hard when folks say negative about either one of them ever!!!
Jo: did you catch the store about the name controversy involving Mellow Moods ? (And the Bob Marley family) was in Sunday's Journal I'll send you the link via email
Margy, that's what I'm thinking, too. It's a shame we hang the weed label on some beautiful flowering plants. There are folks here and there around this area who are refusing to use weed eradication products and taking pride in their "Freedom Lawns".
I really want to put pics on my blog, go outside and play in the dirt or take a walk, but I need to do laundry and clean up the room A/C and put it in. YES, I know it's only April....but we are having temps in near 80, which means 85 in our bedroom and it's very slow to cool down up there at night. I must be ready!!
Looks like many have checked in today. Hello to everyone. The prep work is taking quite some time. Almost completed step one. Needed some ice water and a break. Opening the pool today, scrapping and re-staining the deck, and awning going up. Those are on my husbands list. We are on spring break and this is our time to be ambitious. Hopefully we will get most work done this week and be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor once school is out.
Margy, was your house the one that is painted green now?? I do rememeber the disappearance of trees behind one of those house on the "block" and something erected in the back yard. So sorry :(
Lynne, we have come close but have yet to turn on the AC. Our house is very well insulated and so far with ceiling fans we have been comfortable. Won't be long though before the AC comes on!
Margy - Yes, I have been keeping up with Phil & Shanna concerning the controversy involving Mellow Moods & the Bob Marley family. Would love to read the article.
Lynn the house I used to have is White, just this side of the Yellow House, on the right side of the road if you go out Cannon Hill Road, It used to be beige....
Okay - best wishes on the project DanaoMo - well, ALL of those projects
GOOD MORNING... Yes, Margy, Capt. Gene does like TONGUE IN CHEEK...not mine, the cows;)
I have sooo many MARGY MOMENTS, I would have a hard time choosing just one. Have an appointment to get lesions removed from my chest, so won't be back til later. It is a beautiful day (76°), enjoy it!
DanoMo and Lori, thinking of you both as you start your diets today. Keeping busy is bound to be helpful---drinking that water is also a very good thing !!!
Lynn, I got so engrossed in Finney 1 and 2 I forgot to tune in to The View until 11:20. Just in time to get in on the blood pressure raising topic of gasoline prices ! Did I miss anything though provoking or controversial in those 1st 20 minutes ?
I cannot believe the way the leaves have popped out in the last two days! GREENERY!!!! Beautiful! It is getting cloudier, tho', so we will probably have rain before the day is out. 76° already. Should be out trying to get some clean-up going, but just too tired after the weekend. Needing a down day! Pollens are blowing, bees are buzzing.....and it smells so good out there!
Margy, I, too, would love to see WVDana here today. I've been concerned about her and that "bug" she was coming down with. Hope she's recovering nicely and that her spirits have been lifted. WVDana, do tell us about your Easter, won't you ?
Margy, the Mellow Moods thing angered me yesterday. The restaurant applied for the trademark FIRST. That should be the end of it. Bunch of money-grubbing descendants thinking they are entitled.....hope the courts shoot them down fast!
Watching The View now. I got a kick out of the royal wedding underwear.
Gas prices--with a 62-mile commute (round trip)every day, I pay a lot for gas. Kathryn has about the same commute in another direction.
I heard them mention the huge profits the gas companies are making right now and how that is going to upset people.
One day I was at 7-11 and they said they were getting ready to raise the prices. I rushed out to my car, but I did not make it before the price went up. A notice pupped up on the pump that I could not pump gas right then because a price change was taking place. Ugh!!
Shirley, I've never been at the gas pumps right at price adjustment time. Now we know what happens, how disgusting. The prices are high, not due to a current shortage, but because there might be one in the future ! What a bummer !
Time for me to grab a bite of lunch and take my walk. The rain has stopped so I'm trying for a walk in the hood, but will retreat and pop in the "walking dvd" if ♫ Raindrops start fallin' on my head..♫ BBL
Hello Everyone! So sorry to hear about the injured eagle :>(
Speaking of AC, think I'll put it on later today. With oven on yesterday, it stayed 80° in house into the night. Was so hot, I stayed in loungechair and of courser fell asleep. Kitties spotted an SB last night, so caught it and put it out! Saw a wonderful thing outside this AM. A squirrel was hanging from twigs in neighbor's tree eating maple keys!!!HOORAY! We have silver and red maples on both sides (neighbors) & will be swamped soon w/those keys. Hate them! Go Squirrels! Got stuff to do---am tempted to get outside, but have some other chores first.
Margy, that Was Mr Frank Galvin, he lived in Sharpsburg, and had a rescue called Flights End Raptor center. He gave presentations at schools and festivals. Kids loved him, he was a very nice and wonderful man. He is most certainly missed by many in this community.
Finally made an appointment for a mammogram I should have made long ago; now to get the doctor's orders written. Have to make the appointment and then request the order for the appointment, then get my hands on the papers.
When I had cancer years ago, the nurses told me that I should remind others to have regular mammograms. So here it is:
HAVE YOUR MAMMOGRAM!!!
It can save your life.
They told me to tell my students to make sure that their mothers, grandmothers, and all of their female relatives got their mammograms. You can imagine the reaction of ninth-grade boys when I made that announcement. But I hope it helped someone. Those boys looked like they wanted to be somewhere else, but they recovered.
no way! But they were in there....I think they moved out when the weather got warmer. It's been out on the sunporch all winter. We are going to rig up some screening to cover the vents on the outside so that doesn't happen again this year.
She does not like it when Flash wants to play-fight anymore. When she could see well, she would sometimes participate in a little wrestling match, but no more. She comes running and tries to jump in someone's lap. It is sad, but Flash just has to learn.
Flash play-fights with Hunter. It would probably upset some people to see one of those sessions. You would think we were allowing a very dangerous dog to attack poor Hunter.
We had a laundry incident last night. A large (Costco sized) jug of laundry detergent fell off the washer and dumped half its contents on the laundry room floor. I soaked up enough detergent in three towels to do a load of laundry today.
Maple helicopters are landing in my yard and on the driveway. I have planted a maple tree that grew from one of them in the yard. I hope I do not regret that.
They have not said what percent that I know of, Paula. They said she sees shapes and shadows. They told Kathryn that she is not completely blind because she does not run into things.
Sometimes she gets spooked by something she does not expect. She will not enter the house through the garage since I put the charcoal grill near the area she would come in through. It is covered with a black tarp and looms by the door.
One morning I did see her walk into the front door. We try to keep the area she is going through well-lighted so that she can see. Of course, at night it is not easy. We also let her out the front door because there are fewer steps out there.
That will change when we get the back yard fenced, but we should be able to get her adjusted okay. It takes some gentle coaxing and petting.
She has been battling the "bug" pretty weak and puny feeling, but her Mom came for a visit Sunday and gave some good Mom Advice. Dana is trying to get some bland foods in and keep them down (and IN ) !!
She sends her love to all ! And will get on the blog when she feels up to it.
I managed to get a couple of chuckles out of her! Laughter, gets the healing endorphins rolling xoxo ♥ ☺
The fencing of the back yard is one of the first projects I will take on when I retire. It will be a great improvement for everyone. I had wanted an excuse to do that anyway.
We will be putting a stop to the people who cut through our yard to the next street. We will put "Beware of the Dog" signs on the fence. That will be something of a joke, but if they see Flash in all of his glory, they will believe he is mighty fierce.
Matthew 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." and Matthew: 19:26 "With God, all things are possible."
Come on Liberty, keep on knocking, and Momsters & Dadsters, keep those prayers and dreams going !
TEAM LIBERTY ! TEAM EAGLET MOMSTERS AND DADSTERS Love you all, headed to Berkeley Springs for some kid fun and lovin' xoxox ♥
Well, I should not have said anything about the AC. LOL Jack is vacuuming and decided it was time to turn the AC on. That is a hot job. Anyway, 78 outside and going up. Also, very humid. So, AC is on and I admit, feels great!
as I was reading back last night, I saw some discussion of giving the Truder a proper name. I will throw my 2 cents worth in...I think we should wait until breeding season begins again. He may be GONE by then when Lib returns to reclaim his Palace!
Our trip this weekend had some very good times, but wow, it was one small problem after another....The very first thing that went wrong was, I opened up the duffel bag with our clothes, and what do you think was right there in the sock section? STINKBUG. But, somehow, someway, he must not have been at all threatened because, THANK YOU JESUS, there was no STINK! It would have been a shame to have to wash clothes!
Relative to fall, we are actually seeing far fewer SBs right now. They must have either died off (I've found lots of dead ones) or worked their way back outside. Or maybe we finally killed most of them. NOT HAPPY that Lynn saw a BABY STINKBUG!
Megan, are you lurking? The catbirds are on the way....sadly, some were brought in to Kathy, our local wildlife rehabber, having flown into buildings. But my friend just saw one in her yard!
Phoenix Wildlife Center, Inc. Migration is ON! This time of year, thousand of birds migrate from their wintering home to their breeding habitats. We work with the Lights Out Baltimore group, who monitor downtown Baltimore every morning for birds that have collided with windows. Today's haul: 1 Northern waterthrush, 2 ovenbirds and 2 catbirds (and a great many ...more that didn't survive the impact). So remember: Lights Out at night!!! Also a good time to keep your cats indoors, as migrants will not recognize the hiding places of your cat as well as the local birds. After flying all night, all these birds want is a place to find food and shelter. We want them to be safe while stopping by.
I remember last spring thinking the same thing about stink bugs, must not be as many, then hot summer hit and it was over. There were at least 15 in the windows when we got home yesterday.
OK I have finished a new Glo's Glimpses with photos and video from this years flood for those who would like to see. Old Man River Indeed
I also want to say to Shirley that Dex maneuvers very well most of the time in familiar kinds of places. I pretty much move nothing from where it was when he went blind. Of course occasionally I have too. I have taught him the word Easy and he knows then that we are approaching an up or down spot when we are out walking. He will slow and with his halter I can safely get him up higher or down slower given the situation. Hope that makes sense. I never ever leave the door to the basement open as he always went up and down with me to do laundry. Its a little tricky actually getting the laundry basket through the door and closing it but not as tricky as picking a fallen dog up at the bottom of the stairs would be.
we got 21 last night and this morning...but that was way less than I expected after having been gone all weekend. Late summer and fall was when they started in the house so badly. YUK.
Oh, and before I forget it. Came back to tell you a Zacharoo story. Now, I did not witness this but was told it yesterday. They were in church. The minister said something like "Why do I not slow down and let Jesus...." And Zach said outloud, and loud enough for those around him to hear, "I don't know why." Needless to say, there was laughter. Out of the mouth of babes!!
HOLY MOSES...(oh yeah, managed to catch some of the Ten Commandments on Saturday) there is a Titmouse on my feeder in front of the LR window which is open and he is singing.....HE IS SOOOOOOO LOUD!!!! Scared the poop outa me!
The groom fainted and fell flat on the floor in the middle of the ceremony. Hunter, at about age 8 said loudly enough for those of us nearby to hear. "Aww, he's faking!" We had to shush Hunter quickly. Looking inside of the mind of an 8-year old boy, I can just imagine what he was thinking.
Fortunately, they revived the groom and finished the ceremony. It took awhile; he was not faking. Probably carried on too much the night before. I had never seen the groom faint before, at least not except on a TV clip.
Did see a groom forget his lines once. The minister had to make a save on that one. I think the minister got it down to "I do" or "yes" or something very simple.
Called doctor's office. Of course, the person I need to talk to is not answering at the moment, so I had to leave a message. I want to be able to pick up the paperwork up today if I possibly can. We will see . . .
Thank for posting the info on migrating birds Lynne2. I have also heard to not keep a plant right in front of a window as it looks like a perching spot to a bird. I bought some reflectors for my sunroom window at Wildbirds Unlimited and still keep the shade half way down. Almost no thuds anymore but I use to hear them occasionally. I hate that sound.
Kind of an interesting system. I call and make the appointment and then tell the doctor's office the date and time and they write an order for the procedure that I take with me.
Shirley, hope you got the drs. order! I have 4 mos. to wait!
Good to hear that Luna is doing so well. Animals who lose sight adjust much better than humans. THere is a sad shelter dog I saw mentioned last week that is both blind AND deaf.
Margy, so glad to know you've talked to WVDana, cheered her up and let her know we care. Nice of her Mom to visit and administer TLC--we never outgrow our need for that !!!
Lynn, I notice the Osprey do not have brood patches. Is that unique to Bald Eagles or perhaps Golden Eagles, too ?? I wish I could read Finnish !
I am so pleased to see a discussion and therefore a good reminder on mammograms ! My maternal grandmother, mother and only sister all had breast cancer. I am a fanatic on the subject ! Use that tool as well as self examination diligently, please !!!!
Follow up on the stinky Corpse Plant aka Woody. Seth says that by the time they saw it the odor was quite faint. The greenhouse guide said it was quite putrid when the blossom first opened up, but kept decreasing as the day went on. Still glad I didn't go. The camera view served me very well !!!
Lynn, they DO have brood patches. I'm 99% sure of it. They are not easily seen in most birds however. You can't see it just by looking at the front of the birds. They actually would have to be stretched out with feathers "poofed" in order to see it.
Hi Rich, welcome! I would assume if they were able to get DNA from a chick suspected of being the chick of the dead eagle, they'd be able to tell....but I'm not sure! I would suggest going to the NBG site and asking that question of one of the biologist moderators in the chat next to the cam feed
They do DNA tests on the chicks there when they band them. But I don't know if they've ever tested the parents although I do not think that's ever been done.
If you are referring to the eagle that was hit by the car that we just learned today didn't make it....I don't think it's known if it actually was a "parent".
Here is a link to NBG Norfolk Eagle Cam The moderated discussion link is on the rigth.
Remember a couple of weeks ago we were gathering statistics on eaglet mortality? Here is the sad stat from NBG
Shoebutton♥: Fledgling Mortality Rate: From the time the eaglets hatch to when they reach adulthood (5 years), there is a 50% survival rate. Source Ed Clark, WCV: The survival rate for eagles is pretty low. Only about one in four - maybe one in three - eagle fledglings will make it to adulthood. Inability to feed themselves is certainly one reason, but we see lots of other problems, including collisions with cars and power lines, gunshot, environmental contamination, and disease.
anyway, I'm still a little confused...if 50% make it to adult, but only 1 in 3 fledglings survive, that puts THAT survival rate at 25-35%? Can someone with a MATH BRAIN explain this to me?
Rich, as for DNA from any chicks at NCTC, they have never been touched, tested, banded, etc. No human intervention whatsoever except through our prayers!
Kay, Google toolbar has a translation tool...Click on it and will translate anything you bring up in a foreign language. Of course, the translations are often laughable!!!
Rich, welcome....if you are referring to either the eagle who died from the car collision, or the one found at Antietam.....our nest is the only monitored nest in these parts.....and nothing has ever been done as far as banding or biological testing of "our" birds. Any other nests and birds in the nearby tri-state area are purely undocumented locations.
Lynne2: 1 in 3 fledglings survive. Of those 1 in 3 fledglings, 50% make to adulthood. Remember adulthood takes ~5 years so the 50% is of the 1 in 3. Many causes of death in the first 5 years.
Hi, Everyone, Slept in really late today after a poor night's sleep. Feel better after the extra zzzzzzs.
Have an errand or two to run, so gotta make this quick. Prayers for WV Dana! That durn virus is miserable. Hope for a quick recovery! Miss you, WV Dana! (((HUGS)))!!!
Shirley, so glad to hear that Luna is doing well. Happy that she can see just enough to be able to get around reasonably well.
Very, very sorry to hear that the injured eagle didn't make it. Thanks to all who tried so hard to help it! Hope there are not eaglets that are waiting for it to return to the nest!
Well, better hit the road and get those errands done. Will check back in later tonight. :o]
I must find a flower picture for my avatar. I think I lost mine on the old computer. Darn. Guess i better charge up the camera for some more. Soon lilacs will be blooming. It's going to smell good around here.
Lynn, love the close up your Lily of the Valley. Was one of my mother's favorites. I have many, many of the white AND pink ones. The pink ones smell the best. They keep multiplying so much that I don't need to mulch these areas.
My tulips are finally blooming too. I had a big bag of bulbs given to me and when daughter was here in the fall she planted them for me. It's like Christmas because we didn't know what color they were. Pink, purple and yellow so far.
Tomorrow we'll get rid of the 24' dumpster that was used to clean up the property. Hoorah! Now we wait for the silver maple helios.
Have more catching up to do and wait for supper. Mike's grilling some steaks.
Eaglet mortality. That is why come Jan or Feb I always make a comment on the number of young juvies that are or especially last year still seen at the Lock and Dam where I do most of my eagle photos. This year although brutal long and cold there were many many juvies still there late Jan. I was so very happy to see them apparently surviving the winter. The year before when the shad was very very low count almost non existent the juvie count too was very low. It was sad indeed for those who knew what they weren't seeing :-(
Lynne, no, thankfully. Poplar Bluff is in the SE part of the state. Mom is just NW of St. Louis, which is on the east border with Illinois about mid-way of the state.
Diann, bet your place is lovely. I've always marveled at how the Holland tulip gardens NEVER end up with a mix of colors! LOL---they probably have gardeners who cut off strays!! I was NOT aware that there are pink L-of-V's! Cool!!
Shhh, Lolly, don't jinx it!!
Andy, hope you get your errands done quickly. I hate running errands.
On Sat. on the northern end of the Mississippi River an eagle went for a fish. Apparently a VERY large fish, as he couldn't rise from the water. He actually wing paddled to an island and made several attempts to rise from the water. Finally let the fish go, flew into a tree and rested for a long time before flying off. Unfortunately, no high powered camera like some of our photogs on here use. Would have made an interesting video.
Lynn, thanks for the Google translation tip. I will go there when going to a foreign site. I usually use Internet Explorer because the text is darker and in an easier to read font for me. It may have a translation option, too, but I haven't found it.
Sorry for the delay in posting. Turned around to watch the local weather. Need eyes in hte back of my head. My kids always thought I already had them, but they disappeared when the kids are grown.
Diann, just did a SB elimination run. Got 53 live and about 20 already dead. What's even more disgusting is that now I am finding these random brown goo spots on things and I think it's where they run into stuff and get wounded or something. GROOOOOOOOSSSSS.

"Sorry to relay that the eagle we brought to rehab died at the vet's."
Oh that just makes me want to cry!!!
Forgot to thank JustVicky for the call over. Appreciate that...now where are you? ☺
Oh, that is such a shame. It sure is a tough world out there for these animals.
Something new I found for the Hagerstown area...from the Herald Mail...a local groupon type deal

Hmmm...I remember something about Margy and a tongue ☺
Lolly, Joseph and Jacob look mighty spiffy to me ! So happy to read all about your wonderful Easter day !
Good morning AGAIN everyone. Mowing of back yard is done. I am hungry. Time for food.
That's really sad about the eagle, I guess the internal injuries were too severe. Thanks to all who made the effort to try to save it!
The larger are Rue Anemone and the little ones are Star Chickweed.
oh wow, sorry DanaMo, looks like you were NOT the first to call over today...Just Vicky popped in with it one post ahead of you!
Glo, hmmmm, biscuits n' gravy ! How I'd love to join you !
Anyone suffering from low blood pressure this morning ? Go to OC and check this out:
NCTC Eagle Nest Discussion - Week of 4-25-11
April 25, 2011 2:17 PM BST by Teresa
This is my opinion only others may agree, others may not.
Sorry to hear about the death of the eagle - grateful to those who
helped.
Looks like a glorious morning with all the sunshine!
Right you are, Lynne2, I was looking at the fact that DanaMo had the first post on this thread ! Sorry DanaMo, but congrats to Vicky !!!!
Sad about the eagle not surviving but not too surprised. As I said at the time, broken bones would have been better than internal injuries. :(
Saw my first hummer this morning!
"Nectar" is cooling!!
ROFL, Paula....yep, the beef tongue. But that wasn't a gaffe.....just not anything that appealed to most of us!! If I remember correctly, her co-workers ate it!!
Good Morning Eagle Friends ♥
I join the rest of you in being sad the Eagle at the Rehab center did not survive....and also in giving thanks to everyone involved in the rescue and rehabilitation effort
surely hope it was not a "parent" eagle with a family left behind
Lolly, do you know that there is NO pic of Zach's mishap on your blog???
Kay
I like that avatar! Thank you!
and Lynne -
I have almost the exact same picture on my wildflower pictures from last year !
Mine, is a "Mature Dandelion."
Great picture of the Denton boys, Lolly ☺
There are Ospreys at all three Finland nests, and an egg at the "new Finland" site, and wow, are the crib rails going up there !
New Finland Nest
Hedgie - you found this one, how about some ideas for a name for it ?
Lynne....the eagle that died was hit by a car while feeding on a deer carcass.
ROFL, Kay----those people over on OC are clueless!! Wish the moderator would just shut it down. So much misinformation being spread around---that so many will believe. ARGH!!!
Actually, Margy, Mits found it!! No good ideas----Finney2?? New Fin?
I think from what I have read, your all's "Margy Moments" have my washing machine story beat!
Neat idea, for the theme "Margy Moments:" Go for It !
I want to see what RED posts ☺
Yes, the Beef Tongue: actually, nobody at work except for one would have anything to do with it...I think I saved a little for Captain Gene though !
okay Lynn:
Thanks to Mits!
I think Finney Two or Finney 2 is good....
let's use that
Changed my avatar to Lilies-of-the-Valley......mine are up and growing nicely.....will probably bloom BEFORE May, but they are my May birthflower. Love 'em!!
Yeah, I saw that. Do not know what happened there. The pictures timed out???? LOL
Kay, I was laughing at that comment on the OD forum....
Lily of the Valley, perfect, Lynn
I used to have some at my old Hedgesville house, 202 South Mary Street, across from the church
Now, Margy Moments...our very own "Margy Moments" or Margy's Margy Moments? I thought she meant our own.
Okay Kay -
I am definitely a Yellow Freak!
It appears that there MAY be three eggs at BWO now!!
Read side panel next to cam. Sure is hard to see in that nest.
Now guys, I worked on getting my sunshine avatar back with the Team Liberty slogan and THEN you talk about flower avatars. Really? I think I am going to keep this avatar and add new flower pictures to Hawkwood. LOL
I met a man yesterday from Snyders' Landing Maryland in Sharpsburg
who knew the original "Bird Man" -
who would take creatures especially birds in for rehab
When he died, with the help of his survivors, eventually his efforts went into what is now the Trego Wildlife Sanctuary in Keedysville
I think I have that information correct, Megan would probably know more.
MATURE dandelions....LOVE it Margy!
Margy, your are my wildflower MENTOR!
Please?????
oh I just love Lily of the Valley! I planted some out front last year but they haven't come up :(
LOL Lolly! And I love your T. L. sunshine! And Kay's Sunflower!
would love to see Just Vicky
pop on and say Hello ♥
Thinking of you Just Vicky .....
Thanks for the New Thread Steve, and Just Vicky for the call over !
Hope everyone has a good day today,
Hello to All, and thanks for the morning nest report
There were just two Ospreys at Finney One, now second one has left
and two at Fin-Ferry and we just missed the Ferry !
Good Morning Glo - - hope you are well into biscuits and gravy now !
I don't go anywhere near the OC forum, have enough things going on to raise my blood pressure !
Wanda
I checked out Just for Fun Family Fun...
it's an adorable video, but it is the Chug Chug Chug clip..... ☺
Precious !
I think some teachers have changed a bit...the kids collect and identify with pictures. Digital cameras have made a big difference.
My Baltimore Oriole is chirping...
11 o'clock! Need to take care of some things, so am disappearing...
Lynne- thanks for the Mentor compliment...we all come together helping each other out on identifying things...
I finally saw James' Rockets (Dame's Rockets) this week-end !!
God Bless You all and your activities of the day
xoxox ♥
LOL Kay! I could add a stem and leaves to the sun!
In high school we did those plant presses and I have never forgotten what I learned back then....
sure wish I still had MY scrapbook from those days....but I don't think I do :(
And to think, some of these beautiful things are considered "Weeds."
I know some are invasive and bothersome, but they sure are pretty !!
Is that wildflower emphasis part of the Lady Bird legacy, Lolly ? Say that fast 10 times !
two at Finney One again
Jo:
did you catch the store about the name controversy involving Mellow Moods ? (And the Bob Marley family)
was in Sunday's Journal
I'll send you the link via email
Margy, that's what I'm thinking, too. It's a shame we hang the weed label on some beautiful flowering plants. There are folks here and there around this area who are refusing to use weed eradication products and taking pride in their "Freedom Lawns".
Understood Glo,
Thanks
I know it is not ALL bad.
fortunately the Dinosauar keeps me from some of these things
Love Megan's report of an Osprey sighting, and more returning birds !
Not so sure I like the weather forecast though
OK! ta ta for now, before the Great Horned Owl on the clock hoots !! (noon-time)
This is beautiful
Finney One
Here's the Real Simple Magazine on line thought of the day:
"Life is short, and it's up to you to make it sweet !"~~ Sadie Delany
Finney 1 ! Breathtakinly beautiful birds and scenery !!!!!
So sorry :(
Have finished my two mugs o'coffee, now time to start my day. Need to eat, walk, and get busy!
Have a great day! (((Hugs)))♥♥♥☺
Pulling a Margy!
Lynne, we have come close but have yet to turn on the AC. Our house is very well insulated and so far with ceiling fans we have been comfortable. Won't be long though before the AC comes on!
I took a nice morning nap. I did not want to stay awake when I got up so early.
Margy - Yes, I have been keeping up with Phil & Shanna concerning the controversy involving Mellow Moods & the Bob Marley family. Would love to read the article.
Lynn
the house I used to have is White, just this side of the Yellow House, on the right side of the road if you go out Cannon Hill Road,
It used to be beige....
Okay - best wishes on the project DanaoMo - well, ALL of those projects
hoping to see DanaWV jump on here today
ttfn now, really !
It is a beautiful day (76°), enjoy it!
okay Jo...sent it to email....
thanks
I hope you feel refreshed Shirley!
You know that the Morning Nap could become a habit come June!
Hope you and Hunter enjoy your day
DanoMo and Lori, thinking of you both as you start your diets today.
"Anything thought provoking" I should have said, Lynn. ☺
The osprey are still all in their nests in Finland!! Finney2 gal is roosting....wish she would give another view of the egg!
Ugh!!
My delete; I stuttered.
TWO HUMMERS AT MY FEEDER!!!!!!!!!
Gas prices......OOOOOOOO don't even get me started.....
Back to chores...
Shirley, I've never been at the gas pumps right at price adjustment time. Now we know what happens, how disgusting. The prices are high, not due to a current shortage, but because there might be one in the future ! What a bummer !
So sad about the eagle. My mother-in-law used to say "enough's enough and too much gets nasty". Starting to get a little nasty in this world.
Really sad about the injured eagle that did not make it. Yes, I do hope that it did not have a family depending on it.
I have had the AC turned on for awhile.
Hey, Jo, can you email me the article Margy sent you about Mellow Moods...thanks!
Alabama nap time now. lol
Later y'all!
I hope I can get the paperwork picked up today.
UGH, was supposed to have mine in January....thanks for the reminder Shirley!
Supposed to have had mine in December. I have just felt so busy, even though I know I did have time.
My avatar--chive flowers by the kitchen door.
Have to wait until 2:00 to call the doctor's office about the paperwork.
Pretty Shirley!
Last night at around midnight was the first time hearing the crazy Mocking bird sing late!\
I am happy to report that the A/C is clean, working well, and FREE OF STINKBUGS!!!
Please do no let me forget. This mammogram has been on my to-do list for too long already.
You would not want a stinkbug-infested air conditioner.
no way! But they were in there....I think they moved out when the weather got warmer. It's been out on the sunporch all winter. We are going to rig up some screening to cover the vents on the outside so that doesn't happen again this year.
How's Luna doing by the way?
Luna is fine. She gets along pretty well, thanks.
She does not like it when Flash wants to play-fight anymore. When she could see well, she would sometimes participate in a little wrestling match, but no more. She comes running and tries to jump in someone's lap. It is sad, but Flash just has to learn.
Flash sounds pretty fierce when he wants to play. He barks and growls and nips at her. If you did not know better, you would think he is dangerous.
aw, poor Flash...guess it's been a big adjustment for everyone. Glad she's doing ok!
Laundry calling....
yeah, I know that tone...Daisy and Puddles do the same thing!
Flash play-fights with Hunter. It would probably upset some people to see one of those sessions. You would think we were allowing a very dangerous dog to attack poor Hunter.
Flash also attacks coke bottles, or sometimes he just runs around growling and barking at nothing at all. There is a lot of puppy in Flash.
We had a laundry incident last night. A large (Costco sized) jug of laundry detergent fell off the washer and dumped half its contents on the laundry room floor. I soaked up enough detergent in three towels to do a load of laundry today.
Thanks Megan !
about Mr. Galvin....very nice to hear of what he did...
nice avatar Shirley! I loved the Eggs too !!
xo
Shirley:
sounds almost like a Margy Moment, but with a sensible recovery !!!
Thank you, Margie. I do better with my own pictures. The eggs were from an avatar website; I always have problems figuring how to get those on here.
Kathryn played a large part in the recovery. We had a mess to clean up. It took both of us.
Shirley...what percent of eye sight does the vet think Luna has?
Maple Keys and Helicopters!
I love it.
we used to call them "Noses"
fun when you open the seed pod and stick them on your nose !!
xoxo
Sometimes we see her watching our movements.
Hear Ye, Hear Ye...
I just spoke with DanaWV
She has been battling the "bug"
pretty weak and puny feeling, but her Mom came for a visit Sunday and gave some good Mom Advice.
Dana is trying to get some bland foods in and keep them down (and IN ) !!
She sends her love to all !
And will get on the blog when she feels up to it.
I managed to get a couple of chuckles out of her! Laughter, gets the healing endorphins rolling
xoxo ♥ ☺
The fencing of the back yard is one of the first projects I will take on when I retire. It will be a great improvement for everyone. I had wanted an excuse to do that anyway.
We will be putting a stop to the people who cut through our yard to the next street. We will put "Beware of the Dog" signs on the fence. That will be something of a joke, but if they see Flash in all of his glory, they will believe he is mighty fierce.
thinking of, and praying for, dear Luna, Shirley xo
Thanks for the news about DanaWV, Margy. If anybody can get the healing healing endorphins rolling, you can.
Flash is very hard on coke bottles. And paper.
Will leave you with two verses from Matthew:
Matthew 7:7
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."
and
Matthew: 19:26
"With God, all things are possible."
Come on Liberty, keep on knocking, and
Momsters & Dadsters, keep those prayers and dreams going !
TEAM LIBERTY !
TEAM EAGLET MOMSTERS AND DADSTERS
Love you all, headed to Berkeley Springs for some kid fun and lovin'
xoxox ♥
well....when I told DanaWV I was going to visit James, that put the chuckles on ☺
She has met him, both she and Ed have ☺
Thanks Shirley....It is the Eaglet Momster company I keep, I keep saying that, Believe It !
xoxox
Well, I should not have said anything about the AC. LOL Jack is vacuuming and decided it was time to turn the AC on. That is a hot job. Anyway, 78 outside and going up. Also, very humid. So, AC is on and I admit, feels great!
Have I told you all how crazy I am about all of you ??
♥ ☺
And, you should all feel honored. Whenever I see a SB, I think of you. LOL Not sure that should be an honor, but it is the truth!
And, have we told you how crazy we are about you? (((hugs)))♥♥♥
TEAM LIBERTY!!!!
We can always hope.
Some of my favorite lines of poetry
from Samuel Taylor Coleridge . . .
He prayeth well, who loveth well
Both man and bird and beast.
He prayeth best, who loveth best
All things both great and small;
For the dear God who loveth us,
He made and loveth all."
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
as I was reading back last night, I saw some discussion of giving the Truder a proper name. I will throw my 2 cents worth in...I think we should wait until breeding season begins again. He may be GONE by then when Lib returns to reclaim his Palace!
Just happened to think of those lines as we are writing about the animals we love.
Maybe so, Lynne. Belle is giving him some trouble.
Whoops! Vacuuming all done. Now time for Lolly to mop kitchen floor and bathrooms.
BBL
87 degrees here now. AC is on.
LOL!!! I am honored, in a odd sort of way!
Some chores to do here. BBL. Must call doc at 2:00 and request paperwork.
Beautiful Margy! Thanks for posting!
I was just going to remind you Shirley!
Relative to fall, we are actually seeing far fewer SBs right now. They must have either died off (I've found lots of dead ones) or worked their way back outside. Or maybe we finally killed most of them. NOT HAPPY that Lynn saw a BABY STINKBUG!
You're welcome Lynne,
and Love Shirley's also
And Thanks Lolly... ☺
and, I meant to say It is the Eaglet Momster AND Dadster company I keep !!
Woof Stinkbugs !!!
really, time to hit the trail, I take the back roads halfway to B Sprgs, takes a little more time
We are crazy about YOU Margy!
Megan, are you lurking? The catbirds are on the way....sadly, some were brought in to Kathy, our local wildlife rehabber, having flown into buildings. But my friend just saw one in her yard!
here is the post from her on FB
LOL Lolly!!!!
HOLY MOSES...(oh yeah, managed to catch some of the Ten Commandments on Saturday) there is a Titmouse on my feeder in front of the LR window which is open and he is singing.....HE IS SOOOOOOO LOUD!!!! Scared the poop outa me!
Hunter's out-loud comment at a church wedding:
We will see . . .
Just got a call-back from doc's office. Must get rolling now. BBL.
Yes, thanks, Lynne.
I never thought about PLANTS in front of the windows! I don't have any in front of mine, but that's a good thing to know!
glad you can get your paper work today Shirley!
Kind of an interesting system. I call and make the appointment and then tell the doctor's office the date and time and they write an order for the procedure that I take with me.
Margy, which way do you go to BS??
Lynne, how very cool that they have the Baltimore patrol.....that is heartwarming!!!
BTW----I saved the baby SB.....it's in the freezer. I want to take a pic of it with a ruler so you can see the size.
I have my A/C on.....83° here now.....84 in the sunroom.
Turned it on about noon. Earlier yesterday because of oven being on.
Osprey remain in all Finland nests! Makes me happy!!
I mean KAY.....regarding the brood patches!
Thanks Lynn2 !
I mean Lynne2 !
is it possible to do a DNA comparison on the blood samples taken from any of the known chicks to the dead eagle?
82 here in Hagerstown, but I REFUSE to turn on the air. Windows open even though we all have allergies. I have waited TOO long for this fresh air!
Well my break is over...
Here is a link to NBG
Norfolk Eagle Cam
The moderated discussion link is on the rigth.
82 here too DanaMo, but nice breeze and not very humid, so comfy in the house!
Also Rich, Paula or Loretta or some of the others on here may be able to contact one of their biologist contacts when they come back later.
Remember a couple of weeks ago we were gathering statistics on eaglet mortality? Here is the sad stat from NBG
Shoebutton♥:
Fledgling Mortality Rate: From the time the eaglets hatch to when they reach adulthood (5 years), there is a 50% survival rate.
Any other nests and birds in the nearby tri-state area are purely undocumented locations.
oh, sorry Rich, I see you may have been referring to the deceased eagle and OUR known chicks. I read it wrong!
Lynne2: 1 in 3 fledglings survive. Of those 1 in 3 fledglings, 50% make to adulthood. Remember adulthood takes ~5 years so the 50% is of the 1 in 3. Many causes of death in the first 5 years.
hey Lynn, are your kin anywhere near Poplar Buff, MO? TWC FB mentioned a levy in danger of failing there...
THANK YOU JUDIE! I just REALLY do NOT have a math brain. But now I get it!
Gotcha, Shirley...on Luna. Glad she is managing!
Hi, Everyone,
Slept in really late today after a poor night's sleep.
Shhhhh! Do not tell anyone but it is raining at Lolly's house. All over her prop--er---tee!!!
We were putting out mulch and had to quit. Isn't pouring but it is wet!☺ PTL!
No eagles in the nest but I hear them! Had to check to make sure I did not have any other cams up.
Lolly, I heard that! Yipee!!
Good afternoon everyone.

Jerk just arrived.
Lynn, thanks for the Google translation tip. I will go there when going to a foreign site. I usually use Internet Explorer because the text is darker and in an easier to read font for me. It may have a translation option, too, but I haven't found it.
Truder just landed
Truder poofed at 5:14 after just sitting in the middle of nest for a few
Rudy in when I looked back and just flew out. Don't know how long he was there but it's usually when I'm not looking. Just like Red and his naps.
Glo your pictures and video were great. Just hope you're not near there.
Lynne2, those SBs just don't want to leave. We usually find 2-3 a day; sometimes more, some days none. Have found a lot of dead ones.
wow C-anne, that must have been funny to watch! Ambitious fellow, wasn't he!
SERENITY SHARON, SERENITY!
Pink L of Vs wow! That must be pretty! Are they dark pink or light pink?
Sorry for the delay in posting. Turned around to watch the local weather. Need eyes in hte back of my head.
My kids always thought I already had them, but they disappeared when the kids are grown.
Diann, just did a SB elimination run. Got 53 live and about 20 already dead. What's even more disgusting is that now I am finding these random brown goo spots on things and I think it's where they run into stuff and get wounded or something. GROOOOOOOOSSSSS.
